This little Easter set is perfect gift for anyone. The card just exudes spring as I used the new Shades of Spring DSP from the Occasions Mini. The card was modeled after one I found in a very old catalog. You never know where you will find inspiration. The tearing gives a little vintage feel and the vanilla Hodge Podge hardware finish it off. The sentiment stamped in Elegant Eggplant is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

My little basket is so cute and so easy. It really is just a sheet of 6 x6 DSP that is then scored at every two inches. The sides are cut in and then you just shape to form a basket. The handle 1/2 x 8 is attached with vanilla brads. It's perfect for those little plastic eggs filled with candy.

PPA 31: Be Inspired

This week I have the honor of being a featured artist on Pals Paper Arts. This week's challenge is all about inspiration. These I find to be the most fun as you get to see how different people creatively interpret the same image. For me, I immediately thought of the the image in the Sale-A-Bration set Happy Moments.

The image from Happy Moments is stamped in Crushed Curry on Whisper White and cut out with Paper Snips
Adhere image to 1 3/4" squares made in Basic Gray
Sentiment from Hostess Level One set Picture This is stamped in Whisper White Craft on Crushed Curry then heat embossed

Don't you think that sentiment is perfect. The card design is inspired by one I saw and makes for a very modern looking birthday card. I can't wait until I send it off to a friend of mine. Razzleberry Gone Bridal with Paper Flower Tutorial

Happy Tuesday!!! It's always great when someone is getting married. I love weddings. I was probably obsessed at one point but have gotten much better as I don't watch too many bridal shows now. One of my friends at church is getting married in April in Atlanta. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the wedding, so I wanted to go to the shower and show my support. The colors of the wedding are platinum and purple, so I decided to make my card the same. In keeping with the shades of purple, I think I qualify for Kris's monochromatic challenge. It's a new challenge, where you pick and color (see inspiration photo below) and go with it. It didn't think I could just use one color, but this card is living proof.

The card also features another paper flower. I tell you these flowers are so easy to make and after my guest appearance on Stampin' Pretty, I have gotten so many requests that I wanted to post a brief tutorial. I learned about the flower from a fellow SU demo Megan McDonald HERE:

These flowers can get pretty big. I have found a small flower is about 4 scallop circles. The one pictured above is 6 scallops
As you cut up the center of the scallop circle, you will notice that you are not straight but at an angle; this is okay. Be mindful just to cut as you go around the circle so you can see if you will begin to intersect with other cuts
Using DSP instead of cardstock as I did in this Sympathy Card makes flowers with a bit more interest and texture. The DSP is easier to crumble as well
The 1/16th hole punch is a perfect tool to make you holes in the center. Don't worry about alignment since once the circles are stacked and a brad/button is added, you won't notice it
The water spritzing isn't necessary if you do a good crumble

Only 6 Days Left to Help Haiti!!!

This project features the I {Heart} Hearts Stamp set, which the purchase of raises money for Haiti Aid Relief. As I mentioned in this earlier post, Stampin' Up is providing a way for customers and demos alike to raise money for Haiti. You have only 6 DAYS left to help SU! make a difference. Stampin' Up! will donate $2 for every I {Heart} Hearts stamp set sold to the American Red Cross's Haiti Relief and Development Fund until February 28th.

So far, over 7,500 sets have been purchased which equates to over $15,000 raised. Just to give you an idea, here is what $2 can get in terms of aid:

Collapsible water containers ($2 per container): Each container holds 10 liters amount of water and is especially useful for kids carrying water for long distances to ensure that all their water doesn't spill en route from their water supply. It is also very useful for storing clean, safe water for everyday use.
Water purification tablets (60 cents for 50 tablets): Each tablet is able to turn 4-5 liters of dirty water into water suitable for drinking. Every day, 4,000 children worldwide die because they do not have access to clean water, according to UNICEF.
High energy/protein biscuits ($1 per pack): These contain minerals and vitamins and have been developed for malnourished children during emergencies.
Oral rehydration salts (7 cents for one package): This solution, containing sugar and salt, treats children suffering from dehydration caused by diarrhea. Approximately 3,500 children die each day from dehydration caused by acute diarrhea, according to UNICEF

Today, I am a featured Guest Stamper over at Stampin' Pretty. Mary Fish is an amazing talent and I just love working with her and learning from her. I just want to welcome all you Stampin' Pretty fans and thank you for stopping over. I truly appreciate it.

The project being featured is a sympathy card. I find that these are always the toughest and this one was for a co-worker who suddenly lost her husband. It will be coming from my entire department along with a donation to a soup kitchen that the husband volunteered at.

Using leftover DSP to accent the Very Vanilla envelope finish off this card set. I think the colors really did invoke the sentiment of our department. I will continue to pray her strength during this difficult time and trust this card let's her know how much we are thinking of her.

Ribbon Ribbon Everywhere!! So Much That I Have to Share!!!

If you are a crafter like me, you can never get enough ribbon. It's the perfect accent for so many different types of projects. I used to struggle with a tying a bow, until I found this great tutorial on how to make that perfect or as close as I can get knot by Mary Fish. Stampin' Up offers so many great ribbon and it's such a value given how much you get. I have found usually you don't need that much ribbon, which makes Ribbon Shares the perfect way to get your hands on ribbon at an affordable price.

How does a Ribbon Share Work:

All colors of a specific ribbon type is purchased
Each Participant pays a fixed amount (total cost divided by amount plus shipping)
Each participant receives a certain amount of ribbon in each of the colors

There is never enough ways to say thank you!! I was low on thank you cards and decided to do a simple design that I can recreate easily in multiple colors. When you want to keep it simple, the best way is to choose an impact stamp that has enough going on to carry the card and make an impression. The Medallion background stamp really fits the bill.

Using Rich Razzleberry and Crushed Curry to stamp the Medallion freestyle on Whisper White TIP: Use a sanding block over the image to ensure you get the best coverage and color impression.

For this Pals Paper Arts challenge, I created a card based on a borrowed design that I saw on the Stampin' Connection site. This online site is one of the many benefits of being a SU! demo. It is online place where demos get to share their creations but also discuss and network with one another. I have learned so much from the ladies and men on the site. This card was originally designed by fellow demo Carrie Gaskin. I loved it some much that I knew I had to CASE it and it fit perfectly for the KISS challenge.

Baby Onesie Card

I have to admit I just love these cards. They are just perfect for an expectant mother. This is one for a co-worker. It's cards like this which I love, since it isn't something you will find in Hallmark. The baby's gender is still a surprise so I lucked out when I found this patterned paper in my stash which has a little bit of every color.

Card is a standard A2 Base
The scallop end punch and 1 3/8 circle punch make the trim for the arms and legs
The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes stamped in Kiwi Kiss TIP: Have a phrase that is too long for your area. Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to stack the words. Ink one word and then the next.
The surround is from the new SAB set, Vintage labels. It fits perfectly with the Scallop Circle punch
Two buttons from my stash, make it just like a onesie

If you are anything like me, it never hurts to have baby cards on hand. It seems it must be something in the water. Given these past few weeks of being snowed in, I imagine there will be quite a few October/November babies coming up.

Unconventional Valentine's

One of the benefits of being related to me is that you can get special cards for your loved ones. My cousin who is in Venezuela living his dream of playing professional basketball decided to cash in on this bonus feature. His girlfriend lives here in the NYC area and he wanted to ensure she still had a great Valentine's despite the distance so I became his personal delivery service. Her favorite color is orange so I went to work on this unconventional Valentine.

Dusty Durango textured cardstock made the 5" square base
The pattern paper is something I picked up at a specialty shop, worked perfectly for this card
A layer of Real Red with the scallop edge punch trim which is accented with dew drops and Dusty Durango polka dot grosgrain ribbon
The sentiment from Full of Life is stamped on Whisper White in Real Red. The "Love" was stamped in Dusty Durango and cut out and popped up with a dimensional

I had to make the envelope just as special as the card, so I added the patterned paper to the inside for a beautiful envelope liner. I hope she likes the card and more importantly, I win major points for my cousin. In addition, I made sure she got a beautiful bouquet of flowers to top it off.

It's Thursday and I am excited to be playing Pals Paper Arts!!! This week is a great sketch challenge. This card is for one of my best friend's who recently got a promotion. She tried to keep it a secret but I found out. Her favorite color is purple, so I made Rich Razzleberry the main color for this card.

Tropical Wedding

When there is several feet of snow outside, it can be hard to get in the tropical mode. I tapped my Caribbean roots to put together a fun wedding card for a couple getting married in Mexico. I wanted to use bright colors that would exude a tropical style.

A7 card base in Whisper White
Layer of patterned paper about 4 1/2" by 6 1/2"
The squares are 2" and cut from coordinating patterned paper with a strip of Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla taffeta ribbon
The image from the retired set, For the Bride, is stamped in Kiwi Kiss and then embossed using clear embossing powder on Whisper White
Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig, I stamped the "Mr. and Mrs" from Fundamental Phrases also in Kiwi Kiss
Using some scrap Baja Breeze, I stamped the sentiment from Well Scripted in Craft White and then heat embossed with white embossing powder
Using the photo corner punch, I was able to create the flag at the edge

With this card, I also gave the happy couple a gift certificate for a massage. I hope the happy couple enjoy many more years of wedded bliss and enjoy the sun in Mexico.

Basic Black card base in 5" square
Using Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay, I created two squares 4 3/4" and 4 1/4" that are punched using the Scallop Trim edge and the Scallop Trim Corner punch. TIP: There is a great tutorial on how to do this by fellow Pal, Anne Beale Yancey
I created my own DSP by stamping the sentiment from the Happy Moments in Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo on Whisper White
Using Stazon, I stamped the gift image and colored it in with Melon Mambo Stampin' Write Marker and Aqua Painter
I popped it up with a dimensional and you have a great looking Birthday card.

My 3-D project for this Hop is this Petal Heart box, which is great for Valentines but also great to hold a special gift. This box is done using the Big Shot and the Petal Card Bigz Die with Bermuda Bay textured cardstock. You can get instructions here. Using Vintage Labels, which is also a SAB set, I just stamped the surround in Melon Mambo and added the sentiment on the inside in Bermuda Bay. The Curly Label Punch made it easy to punch out the surround. I simply attached it with Stampin' Dimensionals. The handle made using Thoroughly Modern DSP is attached with Very Vanilla brads. This box would also be great using the Welcome Neighbor DSP in the SAB catalog which you can get for free with a purchase of $50 or more.

I missed my Thursday post for Pals Paper Arts, but made up for it this weekend. NJ got quite a bit of snow, which meant I stayed in this weekend and enjoyed some much needed quality time in my craft room. The Pals Paper Arts Challenge was a color challenge this week. The colors are some of my favorite, so it was great to use and perfect right before the holiday.

Basic Black A2 card base cut the long way, dry embossed with Finial Press folder and my Big Shot
Using the SU! Exclusive Top Note Die and the Big Shot, I cut two top notes: one in Melon Mambo textured and the other in Sending Love DSP
The sentiment from Well Scripted was stamped in Basic Black on Melon Mambo and then cut out with the Scallop Oval punch
Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon and stripe of extra cardstock finish off this card

Sunday Share: Inspired Gable Box

This is another feature on my blog, Sunday Share. It's a day where I will try to share what others have done or things that inspire me. This week I am sharing a creation that was done by a visitor to my blog. At the January Pals Blog Hop, I created this gable box. Well, I got many compliments on the gable box but also a request for instructions. Lauren Mortensen asked for the pattern, which I was more than happy to share under one condition - she share what she created from it. For me, one of the reasons for this blog is to really share what I know in hopes that it sparks someone's creativity. I was so excited when Lauren shared her project and allowed me to post it on my blog.

I actually think her box is much cuter than mine. She was able to use the newest SU! set Whimsical Words which you can only get in the Sale-A-Bration catalog as well as the Welcome Neighbor DSP and Scallop Trim Edge punch, which you can earn for free until March 31, 2010.

I am now making more baby cards than ever. This card was made using the FTL #76 from Clean and Simple. I thought it would be perfect with baby images, but works just as a well with the Lovely Letters Alphabet, which is a stamp set I earned for free. Using my Scallop square punch and 1 1/4" inch square to punch out 4 in patterned paper and Whisper White
Each letter from the Lovely Letters Alphabet was stamped in Kiwi Kiss on Whisper White square
Pink ric rac ribbon from the stash finish off the card
On the Inside is the baby greeting from God's Blessings stamped in Kiwi Kiss

This card is not exactly like the sketch, but sometimes its okay to go a little off course. This is where your own style creeps in. I tend to use sketches to give some inspiration and help a bit with layout. I like this look and plan to use it again soon.

Razzle Dazzle Thank You

You can never have too much thank you cards. This card has a really simple design and uses one of my favorite color combinations: crushed curry and black.

Whisper White A2 card base with Basic Black layer

The sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes is stamped in Basic Black on Crushed Curry
Sentiment is punched with the Word Window punch and then layered on Basic Black Punched from the Modern Label punch
Black ribbon and black rhinestone stickers finish off the card

This card could easily be done with the other In Colors and black for a elegant thank you card note set. This would make a perfect gift for a friend.

Sweet Treat Gumball Birthday

Since the Sweet Treat Cups launched with the 2009-2010 Idea Book and Catalog, I have been in love. The latest Occasions Mini has added even more to what you can do with these cups. I decided to play with the gumball machine for this birthday card.

Cameo Coral A2 card base (long way)
Strips of Pink Flamingo DSP layered in a slight pattern over the front of the card
On a piece of Whisper White, I stamped the gumball machine from the Something Sweet stamp Set in Real Red
Using the 1 3/4 hole punch, I punched out the circle on the Whisper White, the Real Red background Layer and the front the card TIP: In places, where the punch doesn't have adequate reach, the circle from the Movers and Shapers die does the trick to ensure perfect placement
The sliding door was created with a piece of scrap Cameo Coral which was stamped with the sentiment from the same set and accented with ticket corner punch. It slides right between the cup opening to keep the candy in place and make it easy to get to for the lucky recipient of this card
I loaded the sweet treat cup with some Mike and Ike's (my husband's favorite) for that perfect birthday card

Embellish Magazine Challenge

I always enjoy a good challenge. This new challenge from Embellish Magazine is all about ribbon and the colors: turquoise, pink and chocolate. I really loved the color combination and came up with this quick card that is great for anyone.

Chocolate Chip A2 card base
A layer of Tempting Turquoise about a 1/4" smaller
A layer of pink passion embossed with a candy hearts folder from my stash
To get the turquoise accent hearts, I simply embossed a piece of scrap cardstock and then cut out the hearts and used Stampin Up Dimensionals to add them on top
The sentiment from Love You Much is stamped in Chocolate Chip twice: once on Pink Passion cardstock and then again on Tempting Turquoise
Using the Scallop Circle and 1 3/8" circle punch, I punched a portion of the stamp and layered one on top of the other
The ribbon also some stash leftover added a bit of fun with the circles

I can't wait to give this card to a friend, who will like the lack of red in a Valentine's day card.

You are Just Too Kind!!

Today's card is another showcase of paper. Like I said before, I really do love the new Designer Series Paper (DSP) in the Occasions Mini. As a girl with a heart for pink and red, the Sending Love DSP has become a new staple for my projects. This card is no exception.

White A2 Base is layered with two strips of Sending Love DSP
3 x 2 rectange of the same DSP is adhered on top with the opposite corners rounded
Another 3" x 2" rectangle is cut in Real Red with corners rounded
The sentiment from Whimsical Words is stamped in Real Red on Very Vanilla and then punch with the curly label punch
Stitched Red ribbon from accent the sentiment with bow.
Using Real Red and the Flower Trio punch, three flowers are punched and then accented with rhinestones from the Fire Circle Brads TIP: The center stones can easily be removed from the Fire brands; simply lift the prongs on the back of the brad and the stone just pops outs

This is a perfect any day or just because card. I am actually using it for an upcoming birthday for one of my friends. Sometimes, you have to break the norm. Not every birthday card needs to start with Happy Birthday.

PPA27:My Brown & Blue Snowflakes

It's Thursday and this week's Pals Paper Arts Challenge is based on the theme: SNOWFLAKES. I must admit that this challenge was a bit harder than I thought. With most of my Christmas stamps packed away and not to be seen until later this year, I struggled with what to do about snowflakes. After settling on my color theme of blue and chocolate, I decided to just see what came out of it.

A2 card base in Kraft
Threes strips of Chocolate Chip DSP layered on top of Whisper White cut by 1.5" x 3"
Using a punch, I cut out several snowflakes in Brocade Blue and Chocolate Chip
The snowflakes are layered with a white button from Latte Buttons adhered to the center (a strip of chocolate chip is thread through each button)
I used Bashful Blue grosgrain ribbon to accent two of the strips.
The sentiment from Cold and Cuddly is stamped in Chocolate Chip on Brocade Blue and then punched with the Modern Label Punch and sponged with Chocolate Chip ink
Layer sentiment on top of Kraft punched with the Designer Label Punch also sponged with Chocolate Chip to give a antiquey look

Not your normal take on snowflakes. I like to think of it as vintage/heritage snowflakes. Do you want to give it try. It is really easy, just go to www.palspaperarts.com and play along with PPA.

Shades of Spring Showcase

I think everyone loves to play with new things!! I am no exception. The new papers that are the Occasions Mini are just too beautiful for words. You can see what I have done with the new Sending Love DSP here. This card uses the Shades of Spring DSP, which is now available in the Occasions Mini . It was perfect to use for the this past week's, SCS Sketch challenge #264.

A2 card base in Orcid Opulence
Use alternating strips of the DSP to create the various layers (takes the worry out of coordinating)
A strip of So Saffron accented with grosgrain ribbon finish the middle
The sentiment from Full of Life is stamped in Elegant Eggplant in the center (TIP: Don't be afraid to stamp on DSP or other patterned paper; works best with darker based inks)

I ended up with a simple yet elegant card. The coordinating and double-sided aspect of the DSP made this a breeze to put together. Have you tried sketch challenges? They are great to get some inspiration and direction for your next project. Try it the next time you are looking to create a card.

PPA26: Little Chic Lunchbox

When you Love to Play PPA, its always better late than never. This week's Pals Paper Arts Challenge is Anything But a Card. I love these challenges because they push me out of my comfort zone. I find that there is always something drab around the house that could use a creative facelift. I found this lunchbox which I use to store some of my incentive stamps and ink spots and decided to make it a little chic.

The Night & Day Specialty DSP add a little bit of chic on the top and around the sides
Using the Big Shot and Tulip Die, I cut the Tulip out in Bermuda Bay - so elegant looking
Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon surround the outside adding a burst of color

Have a Heart for Haiti

We all know and feel for the people of Haiti during this time. It's always great to be reminded that people care and even more that organizations care. It is because of things like this, why Stampin' Up is such a great company. As a child of the Caribbean with many friends from Haiti, my heart aches at what is happening.
