I had close to a perfect day yesterday.  In the morning, I attended a fun craft class at a local made-by-hand craft mall with my friends Cindy and Pat (and more!) where we made a sweet quilted coaster using some cool fusible quilt grid paper; it was fun and I can't wait to get some of that paper and play with some Stampin' Up! fabrics.

The craft class always ends with a pot-luck lunch and everything was delicious, especially the decadent caramel pie!  I wish I had taken a picture of it, but I was too busy eating it!

Then Cindy and I made a quick stop at a craft store to see if they had the fusible grid paper (they didn't) and then back to my house where it didn't take us long to figure out what we wanted to do next: Stamp!  Over the course of the afternoon with only a brief break to get Mexican food for supper, we stamped 40 cards using the free, exclusive Sale-a-bration stamps!  Cindy made 20 (2 of each) and I made 20 (2 of each) so we each ended up with a full set.  This is what they looked like:

I love the clear mount stamps for several reasons:

  • They take up less room than wood mount
  • They are easy to store in DVD shelves
  • They are easy to line up since you can see through the acrylic blocks

But I look wood mounted stamps, too:

  • They are ready to use without having to mount them every time
  • They feel good in the hand
  • They don't fall off the blocks like clear mount do sometimes

So, I have my clear-mounted stamps and I have my wood-mounted stamps but sometimes I just have to convert them.  Today I took out the Totally Tool stamp set (#113256), which is wood-mounted and I wanted to use the tools without the words.  I knew that I could use a marker to ink the stamps or even use an ink pad, being careful not to get ink on the word part, but I wanted it to be even easier, so I decided to take the words off and mount them on the edges of the wood blocks.  But then I figured, "why not convert them to clear mount?"

I had previously purchased some Clear-Mount Cling Foam (#124236) and decided to use it.  This is how I did it:

  • First, I placed the wood-mounted stamps in the microwave to loosen the glue.  One stamp takes about 10 seconds and a whole set takes about 40-50 seconds.
  • One at a time, removed the block from the stamp, then removed the rubber from the cushion.  I trimmed any excess rubber.
  • Then I peeled back the paper coating from sticky surface of the Cling Foam.  (Be careful to peel back the correct backing.  One sheet protects the cling surface and one sheet protects the sticky surface.  You want to peel back a few inches of the sheet protecting the sticky surface.)  I laid each of the trimmed rubber stamps to the sticky surface, putting them as close together as I could.
  • Then I cut out the part of the foam that had my stamps stuck on it and returned the rest to the plastic bag it came from for another day.  A package of the foam contains 2 sheets, so it can be used to convert quite a few stamp sets.
  • I sprinkled some baby powder over the sticky part of the foam sheet between the rubber parts to make cutting easier, then I trimmed each stamp close to the rubber.
  • I used my Craft & Rubber scissors (#103179) and they were perfect for the job.  I did have to clean them afterwards, though, using some Goo Gone and an old towel.  You can get Goo Gone wherever products for the home are sold: hardware store, etc.
  • Then I peeled off the backing sheet from the cling surface and rinsed the powder off.

I didn't bother with labels; the stamps stick so much better to the acrylic blocks without a label.  All I need to do now is grab a clear mount box and make an insert for it!

The next time I convert a set of stamps, I will make a video of it so you can see each step!

Sometime, you just have to take a day off, and that is what I did yesterday!  I went to the YO Ranch about 2 hours outside San Antonio with my good friend, Mike.  We took a tour ride around the ranch, checking out the exotic animals like giraffes, ostriches, antelopes, wildebeests, and deer, and finished up the visit with a wonderful chuck wagon lunch.  What a fun day.  And yes, it is possible to kiss a giraffe..... as long as you put a Little Debbie's cookie in your mouth first!

The best thing about being a Stampin' Up! Sorry that I have been so quiet, but it has been a very busy month for me!  First, of course, was the holidays with family and food and decorations and then on January 14th, Candy and I hosted our third StampCamping event (there will photos soon on www.stampcamping.com) and then the next week, I attended the annual Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference.  It is always in a different place (last year was Nashville), but I didn't have far to go this year because it was here in San Antonio!

I had 2 dear friends stay with me for a whole week and it was so much fun to see San Antonio through their eyes.  We went to the Alamo and even took a River Boat tour:

As a demonstrator, I was able to order from the Occasions mini catalog a month ago and I must admit that I went a little crazy with it!  There are so many new dies and stamps and paper and more that I just couldn't help myself!

One of the new products is scented embossing powder!  It is clear so you can use it  over any color and it comes in 3 scents: cherry, melon, and vanilla.  I like the vanilla the best.

Mouthwatering - Birthday

I stamped the ice cream cone from the Mouthwatering stamp set with markers, then I stamped it again with the Versamark ink pad and heat embossed with the Vanilla embossing powder.  Because I use clear-mount stamps, it was easy to line up the second image.  And honestly, if it didn't line up perfectly, that is ok, too!  This card also used alot of other new products!  You can click on the image to get a closer look.
