The “Other” Holiday Cards

December can be a busy month - full of shopping, entertaining, parties, preparations, and a whole host of other family traditions. And sometimes we can let it get too busy for things that we really want to do, like make our own Christmas cards. People seem to use Christmas time as that one time of year to reach out to friends and family - some of whom they may not have heard from all year. However, if you want to send out handmade cards, you don’t have to do it at Christmas. Fall/Thanksgiving and the New Year are great opportunities to reach out to friends and family as well.

Thanksgiving is the season of gratitude, and what better way to celebrate the spirit of the season than by letting your friends and family know how much you appreciate them and their presence in your life. The Gently Falling stamp set (#123802 wood/#123804 clear) and the Spice Cake Designer Series Paper (#124003) can be paired beautifully with any greeting or sentiment for a card that will be enjoyed and treasured. And who knows - your card might even take center stage on the table on Thanksgiving Day!

The New Year is often seen as a fresh start, and it’s the perfect opportunity to send cards out to loved ones, family, and friends to wish them the best in the coming year. The little girl in the Gift Givers stamp set (#123772 wood/#123774 clear) from the Holiday Mini is an adorable choice to bring your glad tidings. The Most Wonderful (and Busiest) Time of the Year

Ah yes, it is that time of year ... back to school, then Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas ... and then there’s the new year and Valentine’s Day is not too far behind. It’s the time of year when the holidays seem to pile up on each other and our “To Do” List seems to keep growing. But don’t put card making or handmade gifts to the wayside. Here are some reasons why:

It’s relaxing.

Take time for yourself to enjoy your hobby and check things off of your list of things to do at the same time. This was my second year hosting this swap, and once again, these were the best cards I received at convention! Thank you to everyone that participated, I hope you join me again next year.

The rules of this swap are that the main stamp set of the card must be one that was not ever available before July 1st 2011. This means that everyone had to expedite their orders and only had a few days to make them, although they had up to a month to plan and prep.

I think these girls did an AWESOME job! Let me know what you think.

Teacher Appreciation Gifts

Yes - it is really that time of year already! The school year begins to unwind as lazy summer days bark on its heels. But before it’s time to toss the backpacks into the closet for the summer, don’t forget to let the teachers know how much you appreciate all that they did the whole year through. Do you need some ideas? Check out these suggestions:

- Create a mini scrapbook that the teachers can fill with memories from the school year or keep on their desk as a reminder of what THEY did on summer vacation.

Last Night’s & New Stamp Club

I can’t believe that by only our second meeting the club is almost full!

So, with that being said, I am starting a second club! This one will meet on Wednesday nights with 2011 dates being:

6/15, 7/6, 9/14, 10/12, 11/9, 12/14

At my stamp clubs, I prepare a variety of projects for members to make. All supplies are provided (except adhesive – available through me). Stampers work at their own pace and instruction is available as needed. Stamp club is the best way to really learn a lot of fun techniques and make a variety of projects without having to purchase everything at once. Monthly dues are only $15.

Member’s stamping experience ranges from brand new stampers just starting out to veteran stampers that have been stamping for years. Club is a social relaxed atmosphere. What ever your experience level, this will be a night that you enjoy.

This card features the Fabulous Florets Stamp Set and Beyond the Garden DSP found in our Summer Mini Catalog.

Sail Away for Fathers Day

This stamp set is one of my personal favorites. This morning I made 5 more of these cards and stamped CAPE COD on the bottom (now I want to drive down to the beach). This card uses the Shaving Cream technique to get that cool water effect. The stamp sets used were Sail Away, The Open Sea, and Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Butterfly Easel Card

Wouldn’t this make a beautiful place card for a wedding or bridal shower!!! The base of this card uses the Beautiful Butterflies Die and the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder. The top butterfly is stamped from the Strength & Hope Set. When you purchase this stamp set $2 will be donated to the Breast Caner Research Foundation.

Hello Blossoms Card

This was one of the favorites of the night, simple and cute. It uses the the single Hello Blossoms Stamp with our Stampin’ Write Markers and the direct to stamp technique (aka huffing) to give you the different colors.

Meeting Make-n-takes

Don’t you just love the texture and dimension of this card. I cased this from someone, but I have to apologize, I’m not sure where I got the sample. I made this with one of the new punches!

This cute little treat box was featured in our Stampin’ Connection magazine this month, and I knew I had to make it as soon as I saw it. Yes, those surfboards are embossed! I decided that I needed to make a coordinating card to go along with it.
