Our country commissioners are applying for a $75,000 grant to map out weeds and when I opposed this grant because it wastes the taxpayers' money, commissioner Adams stated to me that it was a grant from a private donor. I researched this and found that statement to be untrue. The grant is only named after Miles Capp Ferry for all the work that he has done in agriculture. The Weber School District Board of Education is asking permission to bond for $65 Million in order to address growth in student enrollment and replace several aging facilities in our district. </p> <P>It has been important to me and the board of education that we be transparent with the public on this issue. To date, I have presented information regarding the bond to at least 49 different groups. These groups have included Breakfast Exchange Club, Rotary Club, PTSA presidents, presidents-elect, and legislative vice-presidents, as well as specific meetings with communities directly impacted by the bond. Additionally, we have held two public hearings. Throughout the process public input has been sought and that input has helped us shape the list of proposed bond projects. We have been most grateful for the recommendations that we have received from the public. That is, more immediate stimulus and more deficit reduction that is designed to take effect over time.</p> <P>Unfortunately, policymakers are failing on both sides, mostly ignoring the need for additional stimulus while also becoming enthralled with the wrong kind of future deficit reduction.</p> <P>History shows we are capable of setting deficit reduction for the future and sticking to it - as long as the delayed measures are specific and gradual.
