It's a shame what happened to free speech. No, the First Amendment hasn't been repealed; we still have the constitutional right to freedom of the press, religion, speech and the right to assemble and to petition the government. The problem is with those who own, manage, manipulate, influence, gather and disseminate the news.

(UNEDITED) People shoud stop being mad at this poor psychiatrist and start feeling sorry for him. After spending 6 years at Walter Reed during wartime, people should realize that this guy suffered terribly from PTSD. You can't deal with that volume of shattered soldiers (quadropalegics, blind, and brain damaged) without being greatly affected. Then, when you add on a crappy evaluation and imminent combat deployment orders...things can boil order.

I am a resident of Clearfield and am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For those people who feel that they will be able to change some of the basic doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ as written in the New and Old Testament regarding sexuality, they are sadly mistaken. Many churches will hold the line of this concept.

These measures include trespassing, vandalism of property, and releasing the caged mink. Dr. Christopher Thompson, a driver who abruptly stopped his car in front of two cyclists in Los Angeles last summer, was found guilty of six felonies and a misdemeanor this week. The trial, which lasted three weeks and captivated the cycling community, revealed a particularly virulent form of road rage. Christian Stoehr suffered a separated shoulder and Ron Peterson shattered several teeth and broke and nearly severed his nose when the two hit the back of Thompson's Infiniti sedan on Mandeville Canyon Road in the upscale community of Brentwood.

Thompson, a former emergency-room physician who lives along the winding five-mile road, claimed that he was merely trying to take a photograph of Stoehr and Peterson, evidence of the way cyclists flout the law in the canyon and flip off residents. A Los Angeles Police Department traffic investigator who arrived on the scene shortly after the incident testified that Thompson told him he "stopped in front to teach them a lesson."

Vet says memorial not needed

I am an Veitnam Vet and proud of my service to our country, however I do not need an elaborate memorial in Riverdale for my service. Sounds like a political ego trip to me. If Riverdale has the money to use for such things how about spending it on something useful for the long time residents and their kids on the other side of town.

I'm not that cold-hearted toward our state legislators as they struggle with ethics reform. It is really an oxymoron for them, as how do we reform something they haven't had for years?

Most of the bills that are in the best interests of the citizens are ignored as the lawmakers remain the pawns of big corporations whose interests are rarely for the good of the average person.

I'm writing in response to the Oct. 22 letter, "Laws needed to better control dangerous dogs."

I work in an environment where I visit people at their homes on a daily basis. Many of the people I visit have dogs, big and small. Most dogs who live with the people I visit know my scent. They first bark until they recognize me after sniffing and licking me. After they learn again who I am, they calm down and go about doing their own thing.

Owners claim that certain dogs are "friendly. My question is, why can't an owner be truthful about their not-so-friendly dog?

Putting comedy club on front page was wrong

(UNEDITED) This is not one of those " I am canceling my subscription" type letters, it is simply a note to let you and your staff know how disappointed I am in the fact that you chose to run a front page story using a reputable comedy club as your "hook".

The sad truth is, your decision to sensationalize this story by using a well known and popular comedy club to add credibility is simply wrong.

I think we all might agree that Scott Lee needs to be brought to justice, but why in the world did you stoop so low.
