Dear Friends,

Since Pentecost, a couple of weeks ago, the Liturgy has focused on the most important aspects of our faith in Christ – the true God of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, a God who is totally committed to us as God’s people; Corpus Christi – the ultimate gift of Christ to us, his own Body and Blood and his continuous presence with us in the Blessed Sacrament; and then, on Friday the feast of the Sacred Heart, just in case we would miss the truth of how much God loves us.

It is with all that in our minds and hearts that we now enter into what is called Ordinary Time. This means letting this faith inspire us in our ordinary everyday lives as we find the ways of living out our faith week by week and day by day.

Attached is my input for the Couple Prayer and/or Newsletter piece for next Sunday – the 11^th Sunday in Ordinary Time – and the week following it. The theme is very appropriately our vocation, how we live as couples, as families, as communities in our commitment to Christ and to one another. I hope you will find it helpful for yourselves.

As always, I will be praying for you each day of the week. May God be with you to bless your love with joy and gladness. And may God bless all those you love and draw them close to Christ’s heart in faith and love. Thank you for all your goodness.

June 11^th – 17^th The Body and Blood of Christ

“Anyone who eats this bread will live forever”. Only the young believe that they will live forever. As we grow older, we become aware of how short life is. Jesus, however, comes down on the side of the young. He calls on us to stay young, to be like children, to hope and to dream. And he gives us the way to do that – the way of love. For people who are married, it is vitally important that they keep their love for each other fresh and alive so that they can remain young no matter what age they are. It is also so important to keep family life as a wonderful adventure so that all those who are part of it can know the wonder of life. Jesus gives us the ultimate pledge of his love, his Body and Blood in the Eucharist, the Sacrament of eternal life and youthfulness. This extraordinary gift is celebrated in a special way in the faith community. The test of how truly we celebrate it is how alive our community is.

June 18^th – 24^th – Our calling

“The harvest is great but the labourers are few.” When we look at the world we live in we mainly see problems. When Jesus looks at the same world he sees possibilities. When we think of labourers we think mainly of priests/religious. When Jesus thinks of labourers he thinks of people who live by love. And there are potentially very many of those kinds of people among us. There are wonderful people in every community who give themselves quietly in the service of others week in week out. There are many parents who work hard at handing on the gift of faith to their children. Are you among those? There are married couples who treasure their marriage as a vocation and work hard at developing their marriage as a light for the world. How do you see your vocation? What are you willing to put into it?

Tyvärr är jag lite sen den här veckan. Nu får ni 2 veckor samtidigt, den här veckans brev och nästa veckas. Vi var i Sankta Eugenia i Stockholm för att fira vårt barnbarns konfirmation. Det var en fin upplevelse på alla sätt. 44 firar ungdomar bekräftade sina dop och konfirmerades och 6 som hade blivit konfirmerade vid dopet (så gör man i de östkyrkliga traditionerna) fick en välsignelse av Biskop Anders. Herre, du som är källan till allt liv, vi tackar dig för de här ungdomarna och för deras föräldrar och lärare som har bett för dem och undervisat dem. Vi ber att de hittar sina kallelser och blir vägledda genom livet med Din Ande som de nu har tagit emot. Må allt de har erfarit under de här 2 åren bära frukt, frukt som består. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

I söndas firade vi Corpus Kristi. Fr johnny skriver bland annat till oss: " Jesus gives us the ultimate plede of his love, his Body and Blood, the Sacrament of eternal life and youthfullness. Jesus ger oss det definitiva löftet av hans kärlek, hans Kropp och Blod, det eviga livets och ungdomlighetens Sakrament. Idag hörde jag Biskop Barron tala om Mässan. Det var episod 1 av en serie om Mässan- Han sade"The Mass is a great encounter with Jesus in person. It is the privileged encounter. This is the source and summit of Christian life" Mässan är ett stort möte med Jesus själv. Det är ett priviligierat möte. Denna är källan och höjdpunkten av det kristna livet". Herre, led oss mer och mer in i Mässans djuphet. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på dig.

Idag fredag den 15e juni är Jesus Heliga Hjärtas fest och i morse lyssnade jag till Ärkebiskop Francis Leos predikan. The Solemnety of the Sacred Heart of Jesus we celebrate as the universal best symbol of love, of truth and of faith ..This is the symbol we promote, we celebrate together with the cross of Jesus which speaks to us of God´s love for all of humanity, for us his children. We are all challenged to imitate the heart, the love of Jesus for us. Den högtidliga festen för Jesus Heliga Hjärta firar vi som den bästa universella symbolen av kärlek, av sanning och av tro. Denna är symbolen vi upphöjer, vi firar tillsammans med Jesus kors som talar till oss om Guds kärlek för hela mänskligheten, för oss hans barn. Vi är utmanade att imitera Hjärtat, Jesus kärlek för oss.

Kriget i Ukraina har kommit in i en ny fas. Jag skakar när jag tänker på det. Herre, låt inte många liv gå till spillo. Låt det Ukrainska folket känna sig burna av alla som ber för dem. Herre, du vet vad finns i våra hjärta, vår tacksamhet för deras mod och vårt medlidande för allt de går igenom. Låt det snart ta slut. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Herre, ge alla världens ledare, andliga och mänskliga, visdom och bra omdöme. Låt deras inspiration komma ifrån Din Ande. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Vi ber för frid i hjärtat, frid i familjen och frid på jorden. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Come Holy Spirit, Fill the Hearts of Your Faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit and we shall be created and You will renew the face of the earth. Dear Friends,

Attached please find my input for the Couple Prayer and/or the Newsletter piece for Easter Sunday and Easter week. At present we are in the middle of Holy Week and reflecting on the sufferings of Christ leading to his death on the Cross. It is an amazing mystery of God’s love for us and for all of humanity and all creation. I hope you are able to walk with him through this time and experience the wonder of it for yourselves.

You will be in my prayers everyday in the coming week, as you are every week. I pray that you will know the great goodness of one another in your marriage and in your family life. And I pray that all of us as the Church today will be filled with the spirit of gratitude for all that we have and are. Please pray for me and for one another that this Easter will be a really good one for everyone. Thank you.

April 9^th – 15^th – He is risen Alleluia

“They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have put him” (Mary of Magdala). Easter is an amazing time as we renew our faith in the resurrection of Christ. Mary of Magdala was heartbroken when she thought he was gone, and her heart leapt with joy when she heard him call her name. We are going through a very difficult time at the moment. We can be despondent and ready to give up because so much that we treasure is in tatters. It is so important that we lift ourselves above the despondency and work together to make the Church what it is meant to be in our world, a people alive with the life of Christ, the love of God, and the spirit of service to one another. The starting place for this is in our homes and in our faith community. Those are the places where the real power of Christ is to be found. We have so much to live for.

Den här veckan skriver Fr. Johnny bland annat: . Det är viktigt att vi lyfter oss själva ur modfälldhet och arbetar tillsammans för att göra Kyrkan vad den är menad att vara i vår värld, ett folk fylld som är levande genom Kristi liv, Guds kärlek och av en ande av tjänst för varandra. Dear Friends,

It is hard to believe that next week we come to the end of Lent for another year. With Holy Week we are invited to let ourselves be more fully in touch with the extent of God’s Love for us that is shown in the Passion and Death of Christ. I encourage you, wherever you are, to take as full a part in the Liturgies of next week as you possibly can. If possible do so as a couple and/or a family.

This is also a time to look at the limits we set to our love of God and of one another and find the ways to go far beyond those limits. In this way Holy Week, and especially the Easter Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday with the Easter Vigil, will be a great source of inspiration and strength for us all.

Attached is my input for Palm/Passion Sunday and Holy Week. As always, I hope this will be a help for you in growing in your love for one another and in love for God who loves us with an unconditional love. Thank you for being such a gift to the Church and to the world we live in because of your marriage and/or your family life.

April 2^nd – 8^th My God, why have you forsaken me?

Jesus said: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” The central reality of our faith as Christians is that Christ has risen from the dead and that he lives among us. Holy Week is the celebration of Christ’s journey into this new life; a journey that we are also invited to travel, knowing that he has gone before us, and that he travels with us. It is important to make this week a special time of prayer and reflection. This is done in the frequent Liturgies in Church during this week. Make time for these. But we need to take time at a family level and also at a personal level to get in touch with the most inspiring and life-giving love story ever told. Talk to each other this week about all the good things the Lord has done for you. If you are a parent, let each of your family know what s/he means to you. Let Christ walk with us through the pain and desolation that can so often be in our lives as we walk with him through his pain and desolation into new life.

Tacksam om ni ber för en kvinna som bor på ett äldreboende sedan 6 år. Hon har förlorat sin röst och kan inte uttrycka sin vilja och känner att hon är där mot sin vilja. Tyvärr gick det inte att förklara för henne. Hon känner sig ensam och övergiven. Herre, vi överlämnar kvinnan i Dina Heliga händer. Du som är källan till allt liv känner till omständigheterna. Vi ber att du öppnar vägar så att mor och dottern kan försonas. Ge kvinnan frid och låt henne känna att hon är älskad av dig och många människor speciellt sin dotter, som är fallet.. Låt henne känna att många ber för henne. Vi ber för alla som befinner sig i samma situation. Jesus Heliga Hjärta vi litar på Dig.

Vi ber också för dem som befinner sig i olika situationer som de inte hade önskat. Herre, ge dem vishet och bra omdöme så att allt går rätt till. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Dear Friends

I really missed being in touch with you last week! But you were in my thoughts and prayers each day. As things turned out, I did not make it to Donegal for the few days. Instead I had Covid! And I am now getting over the effects of it. Donegal will have to wait for another while.

Attached is my input for the Fourth Sunday of Lent and the week after it. I hope you will find it helpful for yourselves and that the Lord will bring you closer to one another and to all your loved ones,

This Sunday is also Mother’s Day, as you know. I want to wish all of our Mothers a very happy day and I thank you for all the wonders of life that you bring to our families, our communities and to our world. I will be praying for you in a very special way on Sunday that God may bless each of you with joy and peace and that God may keep all of us safe from all harm. Thank you.

March 19^th – 25^th God cares for us in all our needs

“God does not see as woman/man sees. God looks at the heart.” One of the greatest temptations of human life is to think that what we see is all there is to see, what we know is all there is to know. Faith helps us to see through the eyes of God and to discover all the wonders of life. Love helps us to know with the heart of God and to rejoice in all the goodness of life. This week in your relationships look for the wonders of your life and acknowledge the goodness of each other and of your world. This is particularly true for couples committed to life-long marriage. They can become so used to each other that they take so much for granted. They can change that this week. The same is true of parents with their children of all ages. Replace criticism with praise. And in your faith community this week grow in an awareness of the goodness of so many people who are faithful to Christ - and let them know it.

Idag den 17 mars är Helige Patricks Dag, Irlands nationaldag, och alla firar där. När Han dog ungefär år 460 var Irland ett kristet land. Han kände till Irländskt språk och kultur och valde att istället för att bli av med traditionell irländsk tro inkorporerade han dem med kristna traditioner. Till exempel tillade han en sol, en Irländsk symbol, på det kristna korset, för att skapa vad vi nu kallar ett Keltiskt kors, så att vördnaden av symbolerna skulle vara mer naturliga för Irländarna.

Vi har ett annat Irländskt helgon, Heliga Birgitta. Jag har hört att den svenska Heliga Birgitta förmodligen fick sitt namn efter Heliga Birgitta av Kildare. Irland håller på att få en ny ledig dag och det är nämligen den 1 februari, Heliga Birgitta av Irlands festdag.

Den här veckan har jag känt mig ganska bedrövad. Tre gifta par som jag känner har nyligen separerat, efter flera års äktenskap och alla har barn. Det är tre män som har lämnat sitt äktenskap för andra kvinnor. Tyvärr är det inte bara äktenskapet men mycket annat som går sönder inte minst för barnen. Herre vi överlämnar de här paren till dig. Rör vid deras hjärta och hjälp dem att förstå vad som har gått snett och konsekvensen av en splittrad familj och leda dem tillbaka till varandra. Herre du vet hur övergivna, svikna och bedrövade de här kvinnorna känner sig, låt dem få allt mänskligt och andligt stöd som finns att få. Var med barnen och må dem få familjemedlemmar och vänner som kan trösta dem. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Förbön behövs för ett par som förlorat tvillingbarn: Herre, du som är källan till allt liv och vet hur förtvivlade de här föräldrarna känner sig, var med dem med din tröst och låt dem få allt de behöver för att bli helade. Hjälp dem att förstå vikten av att kunna sörja tillsammans så att deras relation bli djupare. Låt dem få all andlig och mänsklig hjälp som de behöver. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Idag skriver Fr. Johnny till oss: God looks at the heart. One of the great temptations of life is to think that we see all there is to see, and we know all there is to know. Dear Friends,

I am sending you two instalments of the Couple Prayer and/or Newsletter piece this week. The reason is that I will be in Donegal next week for a few days to visit my family and I will not have the time or opportunity to contact you for the following week.

Even though I will be on a bit of a break I will still be praying for you each day. I thank God for the privilege of knowing so many marvellous couples and individuals and I thank you for accepting me into your life.

May God bless you and all your loved ones with gladness and joy and also with energy and peace for fostering your love for one another. Thank you.

March 5^th – 11^th – It is wonderful for us to be here

“Lord, it is wonderful for us to be here.” We have a right to be able to say that in relation to our life of faith and our life of love. But we also have a responsibility to each other to make that statement possible for one another. One of the special places of that statement must be in the relationship of husband and wife in marriage. Make your marriage a place where the other person is very glad to be. Make your home a place where everyone who lives there can say: “it is wonderful to be here”. Make the Church a community where everyone can experience the warmth of God’s love. Those are the kind of challenges that are in our following of Christ and that are particularly relevant during this time of Lent. We have to put ourselves out in order to make all of that happen in our homes and faith community. Lent is about just that.

March 12^th – 18^th – Christ, the living water

“Those who worship must worship in spirit and in truth.” In the Gospel of this weekend, Jesus is very clear that rituals are not what our faith is about, important and all as they are, but that it is about the heart and about life. The same is true of love and it is here that couples are such important prophets for the life of the Church. Your love for each other has its origin in the heart and must constantly be restored to the heart. Your love is lived in everyday life and needs to give a quality of goodness to each day both for yourselves and for all those around you. But it is not just couples who are called to put their hearts into all they do. All of us, single people, religious, and priests are called to live out our vocations in ways that will encourage others in faith, build them up in hope and draw them into the love of God and so come to live life to the full.

Vi ber för alla föräldrar att de må bli bra förebilder för sina barn. Må alla barn känna sig älskade av sina föräldrar. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Förbön behövs för en kvinna A som har varit sjuk under en längre tid och nu misstänker läkaren att det kan vara Parkinson. Hon är ledsen och rädd och går i stor oro. Herre, vi överlämnar kvinnan till dig. Må hon känna att du är med henne i allt som sker. Vi ber att hon får den bästa läkarvård och den rätta diagnosen. Vi ber att du lindrar hennes oro och att hon och familjen känner sig burna av våra böner. Vi ber att hon blir helad till kropp och själ. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Kriget i Ukraina fortsätter och det känns förfärligt. Herre, var med alla Ukrainare. Låt det inte bli värre. Låt det här eländet snart ta slut. Tack Herre att många länder fortsätter att stödja Ukraina på olika sätt. Må de fortsätta att göra det. Vi ber Herre att du griper in i vad som händer nu i Israel. Ge alla världens ledare, både andliga och världsliga, visdom och bra omdöme. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Fyll varje hem med Din kärlek, Må vart och ett av våra hem blid en plats fylld av Din närvaro, en källa som förmedlar Din frid. Bönehäftet Må vi börja med oss själva.

Jesus är Ordet och Guds visdom i mänsklig form. Ge mig o Herre, Min Gud, ett sinne att känna Dig, ett hjärta att söka Dig, visdom att hitta Dig, och trogen uthållighet i väntan på Dig och ett hopp att slutligen omfamna Dig. St Thomas Aquinos

,Dear Friends,

Tomorrow, as you know, is Ash Wednesday! Attached is my input for the First Sunday of Lent and the week following it for the Couple Prayer and/or the Newsletter piece. I wish you every grace from God for this special season. May it be a time of great growth in our faith, hope and love, especially in your love for one another in marriage.

This first Sunday gets us off to a good start through the clear call to set our sights on what is really important and not to become distracted by what looks important. And in this we are invited to make the Word of God the single most important thing of all. If we follow that word we will have life and happiness.

I will be praying for you every day of this new week and every day right through Lent. May you have happiness and peace and also great generosity with one another in your life of love. Please pray for me and for all those who use this programme of reflection and prayer. Thank you.

February 26th - March 4th Christ, our new beginning

“We do not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” That’s a difficult sentence for us to really listen to today in our consumer society. Lent is a time to reflect on it and to find freedom through it. The question for Lent is not “what am I going to give up” but rather “in what ways am I imprisoned so that I am not totally free to love God with my whole heart and my neighbor as myself.” Then we can look at what we need to give up – or take up. In the marriage relationship it may be to give up some particular interest that is not essential in order to have more time for each other. In family life it may be to give up criticism in order to make room for praise and thanksgiving. And in parish life it may be to give up leaving everything to others and getting involved in some aspect of how we can develop the vitality of our faith community.

Nu har vi gått förbi Askonsdag och Fastan har börjat. Imorse (fredag) sade Fr.Michael Coutts S. J. Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are not ends in themselves - they bring us closer to God, revitalise us. Bön, fasta och allmosor är inte ett mål i sig - de drar oss närmare till Gud och ger oss livskraft. Personligen tycker jag att en av de viktigaste sakerna är att tänka på min relation till andra människor och om där finns någon som känner sig ensam eller behöver hjälp på någon sätt.

Fr. Johnny skriver till oss. We do not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Lent is a time to reflect on it and to find freedom through it. The question for Lent is not what I am going to give up but rather in what ways am I imprisoned so that I am not totally free to love God with my whole heart and my neighbour as myself.

Vi lever inte på bröd allena men på varje ord som kommer från Guds mun. Fastan är en tid att reflektera över det och att finna frihet genom det. Frågan för Fastan är inte vad ska jag avstå ifrån men hellre på vilket sätt är jag fångad så att jag inte är helt fri att älska Gud med hela mitt hjärta och min nästa som mig själv. Jag vill gärna att vi ber för den polismannen som tog sitt liv och alla andra som har nyligen gjort det. Herre du vet vilken katastrof det är när någon tar sitt eget liv. Du vet varför och känner till den hopplösa känslan de här personer har haft, förmodligen en känsla av att inte vara älskad över huvud taget. Herre, Du som är barmhärtighet och kärlek, må Ditt heliga ljus vila över dem. Må de vila i frid. Var med dem som är kvar med din tröst. Ge dem visa personer som kan ge dem både mänsklig och andlig hjälp. Må de känna sig burna av våra böner. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Dear Friends,

Attached is my input for next Sunday – 7^th Sunday in Ordinary Time – and the week following it for the Couple Prayer and/or the Newsletter piece. I hope you will find it helpful for yourselves in your marriage and/or family life and in your life of faith in your faith community.

Two very important things happen within this time. Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday to mark the beginning of Lent. And today is St. Valentine’s Day. Even though these two things look very different they are connected! St. Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate your love for one another. Lent is a time to look at how you can grow in your love and let your love radiate out to your family and the world around you.

As I wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day, I also wish you a happy and successful Lent in which your joy and gladness can grow for the year and years ahead. You will be in my prayers every day for that intention. Please continue to pray for me and for all those who will use this programme in the week ahead. God bless you always.

February 19^th – 25^th The Lord is compassion and love

Jesus said to his disciples: “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you; in this way you will be children of your Father in heaven.” In this statement, we have the ultimate commandment and challenge of Jesus. It is the call to love at least as much when things are not going well as we love when everything is good. This has all kinds of implications for us in the three important relationships of faith: marriage, family, and faith community. In marriage, it is so important not to let things fester but to sort out any difficulties immediately. The temptation is to keep disagreements going and hurt one another even more. In family life, it is so easy to let our feelings dictate how we relate to other members of the family rather than make a decision to love them and to get over any differences we might have with them. In the wider community, we also are called to see the good rather than the not so good in those with whom we worship.

Hoppas allt är bra med er. Vädret har varit så trist under veckan men igår dök solen upp igen och idag är det helt klart. Hoppas våren är på väg.

Igår gick jag till den Filippinska Mässan församlingen och presenterade Ständig Bön. Filipperna är så öppna och varma och Mässan var vacker. De sjöng dels på deras eget språk och dels på engelska. Orden var enkla och tilltalande. När man tänker på det är det väldigt tilltalande att vi har så många olika kulturer i Katolska Kyrkan i Sverige. Här i Karlstad har vi medlemmar från 50 olika länder med olika seder och sätt att bete sig. Vilken rikedom!

Som vanligt Fr. För några dagar sedan hörde jag följande: Let us walk in the footsteps of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to be our joy and our daily hope so that God´s goodness will forever triumph over human sin and evil. That is our salvation and it begins and is underway here and now. Låt oss gå i Jesus fotspår och låt kraften från den Heliga Ande vara vår glädje och vårt dagliga hopp så att Guds godhet för alltid kommer att triumfera över mänsklig synd och ondska. The theme is about Christ’s call to us to renew our spirit of love again and again so that we can experience the fullness of life in marriage, in family, and in the faith community. The temptation is always there to settle for mediocrity rather than for greatness in all these relationships. Christ’s way of love brings us far beyond mediocrity and it is only then that we can know the wonder of life. But it involves working at love!

You will be in my prayers every day of the week ahead. May God help you to be generous with one another in love. And may you find joy and hope because of that generosity. Please pray for me and for all those who will use this reflection and prayer in the week ahead. Thank you.

February 12^th – 18^th The Law of Christ - love

Jesus said to his disciples: “I tell you, if your virtue goes no deeper than that of the Scribes and Pharisees you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.” The Scribes and Pharisees in the time of Jesus were very good-living people who had missed the point. They were fully committed to the Law but had lost the Spirit. How easy that is for us to do also. In marriage, for example, it is not enough for a husband or wife to avoid getting involved in another relationship. Their fidelity is far more than that because it has to lead them to build up their love for one another in every way possible. In family life so many parents give their children everything except very often what the children need most, namely their time, their affection, and their affirmation. And in our faith community it is all too common for people to reduce the practice of their faith to simply going to Mass on a Saturday/Sunday rather than getting involved in creating a community that expresses itself in the weekly Eucharist.

Vi går med rask takt mot Fastan. Det är otroligt hur fort tiden går. Idag skiner solen och vi har en blå himmel i Karlstad. Det känns så annorlunda när solen skiner. Hoppas alla mår bra.

Idag, lördag 11 februari, är Vår Fru av Lourdes festdag. Jungfru Maria visade sig för Bernadette Soubirous i Frankrike och sade "Jag är den obefläckade avlelsen / I am the Immaculate Conception". Det är också Världens Dag för de Sjuka. Påve Franciskus har sagt "Sick people are in many ways at the centre of God´s people and the Church advances together with them as a sign of our humanity in wich everyone is precious and no one should be discarded or left behind. Sjuka människor är på många sätt vid centrum av Gud´s folk och Kyrkan går framåt med dem som ett tecken av vår mänsklighet i vilken var och en är dyrbar och ingen borde vara övergiven eller lämnad kvar. Herre, var med alla sjuka, handikappade, hemlösa och alla som lider på olika sätt. Visa dem till all mänsklig och andlig hjälp som det går att få. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Fr. Johnny har utmanande ord till oss idag: I familjelivet så många föräldrar ger deras barn allt utom det de har mest behov av, nämligen deras tid, kärlek och bekräftelse. Resten finns i brevet. Be för Lilian och David som gifte sig för några veckor sedan och för Robert och Marta som gifter sig idag. Herre, hjälp dem att älska och värdesätta varandra mer för varje dag som går. The theme for this week is beautiful: Christ saying to us ‘You are the salt of the earth; you are the light of the world.’ That could only be said by one who is in love with us. That is what we look like through the eyes of Christ. I hope you will be able to rejoice in this in your marriage and/or your family life this week. And also I hope and pray that you will be able to see how you can grow even more into this picture in the week ahead.

You will be in my prayers every day that God may be with you to bless you and encourage you to love ever more fully. And I pray that God may bless all those you love with joy and peace. Please continue to pray for me and for all those who will use this programme in the week ahead. Thank you.

February 5^th – 11^th A light in the darkness

Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth; you are the light of the world.” These extraordinary words were said to very ordinary people, and they were meant! They are being said again today to us, the present disciples of Jesus, and they are still meant! Salt is used to season food. As the Church, our task is to give a good taste to the world in which we live. Light shows the way and also brings comfort and joy. These also are our tasks for the world in which we live, and how much our world needs these at present. We do all this first and foremost through the way we live in our homes, by making our relationships there ever more alive and joyful. We also respond to Christ in our faith community by developing the Church as a welcoming community where everyone is treasured and cared for; where everyone is helped to know how much they are loved by God and how precious they are in his sight.

January 29^th – February 4^th The way of the Lord

“How happy are the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” The greatest secret of happiness is to know that nothing we have is our own, it is all gift from God, and that we are totally dependant on God. Life is full of so many gifts and the greatest gift of all is love. But love is a God power. The love you share in your marriage is a very special part of God’s gift, not only to you, but also to the world. Treasure it. Treasure one another for our sake. This week let yourself experience the wonder of this love you share and to which you are pledged. This gift of love is also what bonds family members to each other. It needs to be developed or it will become mediocre. And our call is to share this gift of love with all those who form our faith community with us. We do this by our friendliness, our attention to those in need, our willingness to give time to building up our community of faith.

I missed writing to you last week! Thank you for your prayers for the success of our Provincial Chapter. It went very well and we are now on the way to a new and fresh four years of our journey as Redemptorists in Ireland. It is good to be back home again though and back to what I know best.

January 22nd – 28th – Jesus, the light of the world

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.” It often strikes me that heaven is going to be hell for a lot of people! Can you imagine having to be happy all the time? Most of us are not practiced in happiness. Heaven is going to be about being positive, joyful, grateful, and full of praise about everyone and everything for all eternity. The call to repentance today can be for us to change now and set out to develop all these qualities as fully as possible. These are most important to practice and develop in our marriage and family relationships. It is there especially that we can take so much for granted. And it is there also that we often claim the right to be in bad form. Set out this week to make our homes places of gladness and joy. And let that repentance flow over to how we leave the quality of life in our faith communities to others, and we settle for doing the bare minimum. We are all responsible for spreading the Gospel.

Nu är vi i mitten av januari och snart börjar Fastan. Fr. Johnny skriver utmanande ord till oss idag: Himlen kommer att handla om att vara positiv, glad och tacksam och fylld av lovord om alla och allting i all evighet. Love, service, mercy and forgiveness are at the heart of religion. If we change it into a performance of rules and regulations, we start to go on a slippery slope. We have to see the human person in front of us. We draw close by reaching out to our brothers and sisters and we draw near to Jesus. Kärlek, barmhärtighet och förlåtelse är vid hjärtat av vår tro. Om vi ändrar det till en föreställning om regler och bestämmelser är vi på väg ner en slipprig backe. Vi måste se varje person framför oss. Bön behövs för en familj som har det väldigt svårt. En av sönerna har narkolepsi som effekt av vaccination mot svininfluensa. Hans liv har blivit förstört och han faller i sömn och har ingen energi. Tidigare var han väldigt aktiv, duktig och hade livet framför sig. Han hade många kompisar men nu skäms han för att träffa dem och vill inte lämna huset. Det är svårt för hela familjen. Herre, vi lämnar hela familjen i dina heliga händer. Jag tror att familjen känner att de inte får den hjälp de behöver. Vi ber att du kommer in i pojkens hjärta och på något sätt ger honom framtidstron tillbaka. Det behövs ett mirakel. Sedan låt någon dyka upp som verkligen kan hjälpa dem så att han kan få ett bättre liv. Låt hela familjen känna sig buren av våra böner. Jesus heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Vi ber för alla barn som tar emot Eukaristin för första gången och alla konfirmander. Låt dopets rot växa mer i deras hjärta så att de fortsätter att lita på Dig och får en levande tro. Inspirera alla som undervisar barn och led dem med Din Ande.

Dear Friends,

You have all been in my prayers all over the Christmas season and now into the New Year. I hope that you have experienced the peace of Christ in your hearts and homes, even in spite of many of the illnesses that seem to be around at present. I wish you and all your loved ones a very happy New Year. May God bless you with health and happiness all through 2023.

I am sending you two instalments of the Couple Prayer/Newsletter piece this week. On Sunday all of us Redemptorists are gathering for what we call our Provincial Chapter. This happens every four years and is an opportunity to look back on the past four years and to plan for the next four. This means that I would not be able to send you my usual contribution next week. Please pray for us during this time that we can make good decisions about the future.

I hope you will find the attached helpful for yourselves over these two weeks. You will continue to be in my prayers each day – even during the Chapter!! May God bless you and your families and all those you love. Thank you.

January 8^th – 14^th Christ, the beloved of God

A voice spoke from heaven, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on him’. That is the very heart of our Christian faith. Christ is the Son of God. The practice of our faith is about living with that conviction and living it enthusiastically. In believing that Christ is the Son of God we are acknowledging that he is the one who can teach us what God is like. And he teaches us that God adores us, the way a parent adores her/his newborn child. We need to let ourselves go to that wonderful love in prayer and in joy. Christ is also the one who teaches us human life. He tells us very clearly that the only way to live is to love as he has loved us. This is particularly true in the intimate relationships of marriage and family life. It is also true in how we build our community of faith. We are a very privileged people.

January 15^th – 21^st - The Lamb of God

John the Baptist said: “I am the witness that he (Jesus) is the Chosen One of God”. This is the great mission that we all have in our world so that the world may believe. And Jesus gives us the best way of witnessing to him – our love for one another. It is hard to believe that our love has so much power, that our love can transform the world in so far as we point towards Christ as our Saviour. This power is particularly invested in the love of husband and wife in the Sacrament of Marriage. The committed love of a married couple makes Christ present in the world each couple lives in. So much is at stake for every couple to grow in their love every day. This call to witness to Christ is also the task of every family and every faith community in the Church. We have a responsibility in faith to positively develop our homes and our communities in ways that others, looking at us, can come to know Christ.

Tyvärr skickade jag inget brev förra veckan. Vi var sjuka över Jul så vi fick vara ensamma. Just då kändes det skönt för vi mådde inte så bra men sedan fick vi en del av familjen hos oss över Nyår och det var glädjande.

Igår, 4e januari, var Jesus Heliga Namns festdag och jag hörde en inspirerande predikan av F. Mathew McCarthy. Han sade att innan vi börjar evangelisera eller något annat borde vi gör vårt bästa att ha frid med oss själva och med Gud. Den Helige Ande gör sitt bästa arbete när en själ har frid. Hur får vi frid? Säg Jesus namn över och över igen med varje andetag. Man kan också säga Jesus, Guds son, ha barmhärtighet över oss på rosenkransen. Jesus namn har kraften att hela, trösta och mest av allt ge oss en känsla av frid. Jesus själv är Fredens Prins.

Den här veckan skickar Fr.Johnny brev för 2 veckor. Inför Jesus Dop, söndagens festdag skriver Fr. Johnny: Jesus . Jesus lär oss att Gud älskar oss på samma sätt som en förälder älskar hans/hennes nyfödda barn. Vi behöver ta in denna underbara kärlek i bön och glädje. Resten finns i brevet.

Joy is the great theme of Christmas for us as followers of Christ. There are many things that can prevent this joy in our lives today. These will be there after Christmas. The main thing that is there to preserve this joy of Christmas and make it possible is one another: as a couple; a family; an extended family; a faith Community. Let their love reveal the love of God for you during this time and afterwards. And let your love warm the hearts and lives of all those close to you. I wish you and all those you love a very happy Christmas. May the joy of the angels of Bethlehem be yours and ring through your homes and hearts. And may God bless you with peace. December 25^th – 31^st – A Saviour has been born to you

The angel said: “I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” The message of Christmas is a message of joy. Many of us experience it as such but we very soon go back to our ordinary ways of living. As Christians the joy of Christmas is given to us in faith so that others may experience joy also because of us. We cannot afford to go back to joyless living. We need to stretch ourselves to let the joy of this very special time grow and develop in our daily lives so that the world can be filled with the radiance of Christ. We do this through the quality of joy that we develop in marriage and family life. We do it also through the sense of joy that we work at in our faith community. This week we should practice joy in our lives so that it will become infectious for all those around us.

Förbön behövs för en kvinna som inte har mått bra under en längre tid och har svårt att få en diagnos och riktig hjälp. Herre, vi överlämnar kvinnan i Dina Heliga Händer. Du som är källan till allt liv vet hur den här kvinnan känner sig. Vi ber att du griper in och leder henne till den person som kan hjälpa henne. Lindra hennes och familjens oro. Vi ber att någonting händer snart så att hon får lindring för hennes värk. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Förbön behövs för en 19-årig pojke som efter en stressig studentexamen hamnade i en depression och försökte komma tillbaka genom hårdträning, vilket resulterade i att han tappade en massa i vikt. En glad och begåvad pojke har liksom försvunnit. Han gör en tillfälligt avbrott från sina musikstudier. Herre, vi överlämnar den här pojken till Dig. Vi ber att han får den bästa hjälp som finns så att han kan komma tillbaka till sig själv. Må han komma i kontakt till dem som kan hjälpa honom på det rätta sättet. Gör honom öppen för all mänsklig och andlig hjälp som finns att få för honom. Lindra hela familjens oro. Hjälp alla andra ungdomar som befinner sig i samma situation. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Vi ber för alla hemlösa, ensamma, sörjande och sjuka. Må de få tröst och kärlek från något håll och må de känna Din närvaro. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

With this email we are coming very close to Christmas. It is my input for the 4^th – and last! – Sunday of Advent and for the week immediately leading up to Christmas Day. I hope you will find it helpful for your love and encouraging for your faith.

You will be in my prayers each day of the week ahead, as indeed you are every day anyhow! May you rejoice in the wonder of your love and marriage. And may you be in awe of the privilege of being Christ-bearers for the world in which you live. It is a great privilege for me to be in touch with you and to have a place in your journey of love. Thank you for that privilege.

December 18^th – 24^th God is with us.

“Emmanuel, a name which means God is with us.” Christmas is a wonderful time for celebration because it is the special time when we remember how much God believes in us, his beloved humanity. God is with us, not because we are Catholics but because we are human beings. Our great task as people of faith is to keep that knowledge alive and active in our world. We do it especially through our love for one another. The love of husband and wife makes this truth particularly striking as their love makes Christ present as Saviour for the world. The love of family members for one another is a living out of our knowledge that every home is a Domestic Church, a place where the Church in general is at its best and worst. And our love and caring for one another in our community of faith is a witness to the whole world of the reality of our faith

Ge dem som finns i deras närhet en gränslös kärlek, förståelse och engagemang så att de kan ge det stöd som behövs. Herre, väck till liv alla dem som håller på att tappa bort varandra så att de hittar tillbaka till varandra innan det är för sent. En bra nyhet. Tina som hade cancer och som vi bett för har nyligen haft läkarkontroll. Allt är bra. Herre vi tackar Dig.

Det vore bra att be för alla som har förlorat någon under året, de som är ensamma och inte minst alla hemlösa. Herre låt dem få allt mänskligt stöd som de kan få så att de känner sig älskade. Låt dem känna att du är med dem. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Som vanligt ber vi för Ukraina. Jag tycker vi bör be speciellt för President Zelenskyj. Herre vi tackar Dig för den kärlek, det ledarskap och det mod som President Zelenskyj visar. Attached please find my input for the Couple Prayer and/or the Newsletter piece for the Third Sunday of Advent and the week following. It is a great sign that we are coming close to Christmas and all that this great celebration means for us. I hope, as usual, that you will find it helpful for yourselves and for your family life and love.

Fidelity to one another and fidelity to Christ and his Church is the main theme of this reflection. Fidelity is not just about staying with one another. It is about making your life together the most life-giving that you can possibly make it. And the same is true with our fidelity to Christ. During these couple of weeks we are called to bring joy and happiness to our homes and to our faith communities. The whole impact of the good news of Christ’s coming at Bethlehem is one of joy and peace and celebration. Now is the time to practice this.

You will be in my prayers each day that God may bless you and all your loved ones abundantly. Please pray for me and for one another that all of us may experience the wonder of love – of God’s love for us and all humanity and all creation and our love for one another. Thank you.

December 11^th – 17^th Joy in the Lord

“Happy is the one who does not lose faith in me.” Over the past few years many people have lost faith in Christ and in his Church. There have been very good reasons for this, particularly the sins of others that have shocked and rocked us all. However, this Christmas is another call to us to renew our faith in Christ, and our loyalty to his Church. We are brought again to the simple crib where God shows us the gentleness of his love. We can let go of the past in this simple place. We can let ourselves be healed from anger or bitterness by this Lord who is among us as a helpless baby. His only desire is that we would be people of compassion for one another and gentleness with one another. We practice this faith firstly in marriage and family life as we grow in love for each member of our family. And we practice it in our community where we can make such a difference in making sure that every person is cared for at this special time

Jag hade fel förra veckan när jag skrev att det andra adventsljuset betyder Glädje och Frid. Sanningen är att det andra står för Förberedelse och det tredje för Glädje. Prästen brukar ha en rosa mässhake på den tredje söndagen i Advent.

Den här veckan skriver Fr. Johnny: "Lyckliga är de som inte förlorar tron på mig". Under de sista åren har många människor förlorat tron på Kristus och Hans Kyrka. Den här Julen är en chans till för oss att förnya vår tro på Kristus och vår lojalitet till Hans Kyrka. En gång till kommer vi till den enkla krubba där Gud visar oss mildheten av hans kärlek. Hans enda önskan är att vi skulle vara människor av medkänsla för varandra och mildhet med varandra. Resten finns i brevet.

Pray for the strenght to bear all suffering, to make a new beginning after every discouragement and for the energy to be always faithful whenever God is calling us. En kvinna som nyligen hade sin första bönetimme skrev följande "Kände sådan nåd under min bönetimma! "🙌 Tiden gick jättefort och kändes även som ett mirakel att min 4-åring lekte fridfullt kring mig under tiden och störde inte. 🙏 Känns så härligt att få vara en del i en bönekedja såhär! 😃🙏". Jag blir så glad när jag får sådan feedback. Pris vare Dig Herre.

Förbön behövs för en man A som är helt utmattad. Han är lärare, jobbar 75% men det är mer än han orkar. Han kommer med stor svårighet upp på morgonen och ibland måste han sjukanmäla sig. Frun är hemma och de har 4 hemmaboende barn. Herre, vi överlämnar hela familjen i Dina Heliga Händer. Du känner till hur svår deras situation är. Vi ber att du leder A till de människor som kan hjälpa honom och familjen. Vi ber att du ger Honom den visdom han behöver så hans hälsa inte blir värre. As we enter the month of December the preparations for Christmas will intensify. The pressure will increase from all the commercial interests. And there will be more pressure on all of us that can effect the quality of our relationships of love and of faith in negative ways. Make these few weeks special for one another and for a renewal of your faith in and love for our God who loves us so much.

You will be in my prayers every day as always. May you and all those you love be blessed with joy and gladness. May your home be filled with peace and happiness. And may all of us make a fresh commitment to one another and to our faith in Jesus Christ. Thank you for all your love.

December 4^th – 10^thPrepare a way for the Lord

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.” These words of John the Baptist in this Sunday’s Mass are sometimes used to scare people. However, they are another way of saying waken up and see the wonder and beauty all around you. The main way to repent is to stop taking so much for granted and begin again to have a sense of wonder at all the goodness that is in your life. A sure sign of repentance is joy. The first place to look for this is in your marriage and among your family. Count your blessings here and begin seeing how much you are receiving from those you love rather than all you think you are giving. This will be a wonderful preparation for the joy of Christmas. Secondly look at the community of faith you belong to and acknowledge all the gifts and graces you receive there. And give thanks

Bön behövs för 2 par som går igenom en separation. Herre, vi ber att du griper in i deras relationer. Låt dem bli medvetna om vilket lidande en separation orsakar inte minst till barnen. Hjälp dem hitta förmågan att kunna prata med varandra, förstå varandra och förlåta varandra och sedan få en djupare relation. Hjälp dem att hitta tillbaka till varandra. Följande hittade jag på Focolares hemsida under Ord att Leva: ”Efter två års äktenskap bestämde sig vår dotter och hennes man för att separera. Vi välkomnade henne tillbaka till vårt hem. Under tiden som följde försökte vi älska henne genom att vara tålmodiga och förlåtande, genom att inte döma, utan söka förstå henne. Vi upprätthöll en öppen relation med både henne och hennes man. Efter tre månader av lyssnande, diskret hjälp och många böner, återförenades de med en ny medvetenhet, tillit och hopp i sin relation.”

Dear Friends,

This week we end this year of faith. And on Sunday we begin a new year of adventure with Christ and with one another. I know that we always talk about a new year beginning in Advent but somehow we do not really celebrate it as we would the new calendar year or the way other peoples celebrate theYou are very often in my thoughts and prayers. You are very much part of the hope that is in me for the Church and for the world we live inir new year. Maybe that is right to keep it all low-key. Or maybe we can make a greater effort to begin again, giving thanks for the year that has gone and plan for the year that is beginning.

Thank you for all your kindness and goodness during the past year of receiving these weekly emails. As I have often said, it is a great privilege for me to be part of your lives even through this rather remote way! . At the beginning of this new year of sending these to you I will continue to carry you in my prayers every day especially in the Rosary as well as in the daily Eucharist.

November 27^th - December 3^rd Our salvation is near

Jesus said to his disciples: “You too must stand ready because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect”. This week we begin our spiritual preparations for Christmas. We know exactly when that will be – the date is well established – and we know pretty well what we will be doing. The above message from Christ would seem to be superfluous. But of course, it is not. We can easily be so concentrated on preparing for Christmas, the coming of Christ, that we can miss him when he comes. Over the next four weeks Christ will come into our homes when we take time to talk to each other, be kind to each other, enjoy our family life with one another. We can be so busy that we don’t let that happen, so we miss him. Christ will come among us in our parish when we take care of one another as neighbors, as friends, as parishioners. We can easily miss him here. If we do, we will also miss him on Christmas Day.

Hjälp oss att prioritera rätt och låt det vara en fridfull tid med Dig och våra familjer i centrum. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Bön behövs för R som är en tjej, 11 år gammal. I några månader har hon lidit av post Covid bland annat har hon huvudvärk och är orkeslös. Herre vi överlämnar R i dina heliga händer. Du vet allt Herre och vet hur hon känner sig. Vi ber att hon känner at du är med henne. Vi ber att du inspirerar sjukvårdspersonal så att hon får den rätta behandlingen Vi ber att hon blir helt återställd. Låt hela familjen känna sig buren av våra böner. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Vi fortsätter att be för Ukraina. Herre, var med det Ukrainska folket. Tack för det mod och den generositet de visar varandra. Vi ber att du griper in på något sätt. Attached please find my input for next Sunday, and the week following it. It is a beautiful feast of our faith as we meet Christ on his throne – his Cross – and there in the company of someone who was condemned to death for his crimes. There is a lovely moment of conversation between them that brings us to the very heart of Christ’s mission and of God’s immense love for us. Tenderness is the only word you could use to describe how Christ was with this man.

Pope Francis, towards the beginning of his time as Pope, invited us as Catholics and everyone else, to join him in a revolution of tenderness. That revolution is still going on and is particularly lived out in marriage and family life. Unite your tenderness of love with his for the sake of the world we live in and for the Church throughout the world. You are in my prayers every day. Please pray for me and for all those who follow this programme of tenderness. Thank you.

Johnny November 20^th – 26^th Christ the King

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” “Indeed, I promise you, today you will be with me in paradise.” This beautiful exchange between Jesus and the man dying on the cross beside him is one of the sources of hope and inspiration for people of all times. When we call him king, we are not talking about someone who lords it over us but rather of someone who brings us into the fullness of life. Even in the depths of his own suffering he has compassion for the man beside him. His kingdom can only be built on that same compassion. As his followers we are called to forgive one another as he has forgiven us. At the end of this Liturgical Year we owe it to ourselves to let the past go in so far as it holds us back from being people of great love. And we owe it to one another to build each other up in love in our homes and in our faith community. Then the world will believe in Jesus Christ.

May we all grow in the faith and trust that Jesus asked of his disciples. De som följer Jesus arbetar för att bygga upp Guds rike med Andens kraft. Bön önskas för en familj som befinner sig i en väldigt knepig situation. Herre, vi överlämnar allt i dina heliga händer. Bön behövs för M som blev lämnat med tre barn efter pandemin. Det har blivit väldigt svårt med samarbetet runt barnen. Herre, vi ber för en försoning mellan makarna. Hjälp dem att förstå vad som har gått snett. Hjälp fadern att förstå att han har ansvar för barnen och att de behöver sin Pappa. Det är så sorgligt när en familj splittras och jag finner inte ord. Låt inte barnen kommer till skada. Var med Modern. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Vi fortsätter att be för Ukraina. Herre, vi vet inte hur fortsättningen blir. Tack att Ukraina har fått en viss framgång. Vi ber att det fortsätter. Det är svårt att förstå hur de orkar med situationen. Var med dem med din tröst. Låt dem känna sig burna av våra böner. Grip in så att västvärlden fortsätter att stödja dem. Herre, vi ber för ett slut på kriget och lidandet. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Dear Friends,

Attached please find my input for the Couple Prayer and/or Newsletter piece for the 33^rd Sunday in Ordinary Time and for the week following it. I hope you will find it helpful for yourselves and for your family and community.

As we come towards the end of the Liturgical Year there is a warning about people talking about the end of the world. In former times these warnings were mainly coming from religious people reflecting on wars and revolutions and the sins of humanity. Today the warnings are mostly from scientists very concerned about Climate Change and warning that we are very close to the world as we know it ending. We have to take real notice of these warnings and act accordingly to do everything we can to preserve creation.

In spite of all that is happening in the world around us, our relationships with God and with one another remain the most important thing of all to attend to. You will be in my prayers as usual every day of next week as I ask God to be with you and inspire you to ever greater love and commitment in your marriage and/or family life. I ask you to pray for me too and for all those who will use this little programme of reflection and prayer to grow in faith and love and in hope. Thank you.

Bön är att vara öppna för vad Gud vill för oss som troende. Bön hjälper oss att växa i vår relation till Gud och i vår relation till andra.

Där finns många kvinnor som kommer till Kyrkan men var finns alla män. Jag har hört att om män kommer till Kyrkan finns där en större chans att Barnen bli kvar i Kyrkan när de växer upp. Herre, vi ber att du som älskar alla, inspirera män till att förstå att de är viktiga för Kyrkans liv. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Bön behövs för J och hans familj som har stora problem och som han sade själv får de smäll efter smäll. Herre du som vet allt och är källa till allt liv. Vi ber att du griper in och visa dem en lösning på problemen. Må de bli mötta med barmhärtighet och förståelse. Lindra deras oro och låt dem känna sig burna av våra böner. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Bön behövs för en kvinna som är svårt sjuk. Just nu får hon mat genom sond. Herre, vi överlämnar A till Dig. Du vet hur sjuk hon är. Vi ber att din Ande inspirerar läkaren och teamet som har hand om henne så att hon får den bästa behandling. Vi ber att hon blir helt återställd om det är Din vilja. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Det går bättre för Ukraina och det är mycket glädjande. Herre, var med det Ukrainska folket. Tack för det mod och den generositet de visar varandra. Vi ber att du griper in på något sätt. Vi ber för dem som tillhör våra församlingar. Låt dem känna sig burna av våra böner. Du vet vad som finns i våra hjärtan. Låt visdom och bra omdöme råda. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Dear Friends,

It is good to be at the beginning of November. This month we have the opportunity to remember in special ways all our loved ones who have gone before us. We remember them and celebrate them, not as dead, but as alive with God and in communion with us. There will be sadness in many of our memories. But there will also be gratitude and affection. And there can be a renewed sense of the wonder at our gift of faith through which we can know something of the mystery of eternal life.

November 6^th – 12^th Our Source of Hope

Jesus said: “He is God, not of the dead, but of the living for to him all are in fact alive.” One of the really beautiful aspects of our faith is our knowledge that our loved ones who have died are alive with God and that we are in communion with them. We celebrate this during the month of November in special ways. The above statement from Christ is a very powerful revelation of this faith. However, this statement is also a call to us today to come alive in our faith. So much of Christian life can be spiritless where we are doing our duty to God and to one another rather than an enthusiastic response to the extraordinary love that God has for us and that he shows to us every day. We need to practice eternal life now by entering into our lives with joy and gladness in our homes and in our parish community. Otherwise we are living a denial of what Christ says: “He is God, not of the dead, but of the living.”

Dear Friends,

Attached please find my input for the Couple Prayer and/or the Newsletter piece for next Sunday – 31^st Sunday in Ordinary Time – and for the week following it. This is one of my favourite readings from the Gospels as it puts it very clearly how Jesus is on the side of those whom everyone else avoids or condemns. There is a lot of freedom to be found in his word and a great call to be like him with one another and with all those who make up our lives. I hope you will find it helpful for your love relationships in marriage and in family life. And I pray that his word, heard all through the whole Church this weekend, will help to renew our commitment to Christ’s way of life.

You are in my prayers every day. What a privilege that is for me. I try to never take it for granted. Thank you for your great gift to all of us in the Church. And I thank God for the great gift that we as the Church are to the world in which we live as we try to grow in love and in the joy of Christ. Please pray for me and pray for all those who are using this programme of weekly reflection and prayer. Thank you.

October 30th to November 5th The Lord of Compassion

THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.

They all complained when they saw what was happening. “He (Jesus) has gone to stay at a sinner’s house,” they said. One of the lovely features of the Gospels is that Jesus had no problem with what we would call sinners. He didn’t condone what they did, but he had great compassion for them. The other side of that feature was that he had a lot of difficulty with good people. And he still has! He found it almost impossible to break through to them with the Good News of God’s unconditional love for every person because, if they were God, they would not be like that. So, as we struggle to live out our faith through the various relationships of our lives, we need to be ready for failure and be gentle with ourselves. But we also need to be very gentle with one another and become a source of encouragement for one another rather than putting one another down through criticism.

Snart är det November månad och vi kommer ihåg de som har gått före oss. Jag tror det var Johannes Pauus XXIII som sade men jag kan ha fel: "The devotion to the memory of the dead is one of the most beautiful expressons of the Catholic spirit. Vördandet av minnet av de döda är ett av de vackraste uttryckssätten av den Katolska andan. Herre, vi vet att alla som har gått före oss är med oss. Vi ber särskilt för alla som har gått bort i år. St. Johannes Paulus II sade: "Som familjerna mår, så mår nationen och så mår hela den värld vi lever i". Vad kan vi göra för att hjälpa familjer. Vi kan be och det har visat sig att det hjälper. Ständig Bön för Äktenskap och Familj är stark i många församlingar i Sverige men tyvärr är det många församlingar där det inte finns särskilt i södra Sverige. Alla kan be 60 minuter i månaden. Jag ber er sprida det till era vänner genom att visa häftet och berätta att det finns i Din församling. Herre, ta hand om varje familj. Hindra dem som tänker separera från att göra det. Låt dem få det mänskliga och andliga stöd de behöver så att de kan förlåta varandra, förstå varandra och få en djupare relation. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Det finns ett modernt helgon som heter Carlo Acoutis. Han dog av leukemi vid 15 års ålder. Hans liv är inspirerande och spännande. Hans Mamma kom tillbaka till Kyrkan på grund av honom. Det är värt att söka honom på internet. Många ungdomar har blivit inspirerade av honom. Herre, vi ber för våra barn och ungdomar att de finner sin plats i Kyrkan. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Imorse hörde jag: we should be "men an women of compassion, kindness and understanding and of a generous heart because that is the heart of Christ. Vi borde vara män och kvinnor av medkänsla, vänlighet och förståelse och av ett generöst hjärta eftersom detta är Kristi hjärta.

Vi ber att de som deltar i rättegången förstår situationen och utgången blir positivt för barnbarnet och farföräldrarna. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Förbön önskas för en kvinna som får svåra biverkningar från tabletter hon får mot cancer. Hon ska ta 3 veckors uppehåll och det är hon inte glad för. Herre, vi läger kvinnan i dina heliga händer. Vi ber att cancern inte blir sämre under perioden av uppehåll. Vi ber att du inspirerar läkaren och alla som tar hand om henne så att hon får den bästa möjliga hjälp. Om det är din vilja må hon bli helt återställd till kropp och själ. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

October 23^rd – 29^th The Lord, our Judge

Jesus said to some people who prided themselves on being virtuous and despised everyone else: “those who exalt themselves will be humbled, but those who humble themselves will be exalted”. We often think that being humble means to think badly of ourselves. The truth is that we have a right to think very highly of ourselves. True humility is about acknowledging God as the source of all life and all goodness and giving praise to him from our hearts. It also teaches us that we have no right to judge anyone else because God alone is our judge and he only sees the goodness in each one. We look at each other and see all that is wrong, and we criticise. If we learn to look with the eyes of God, we will see the wonder and beauty of each other and learn to praise. This is particularly important for married couples, for families and for the health and happiness of our faith community.

Morning Prayer, when together

Almighty and ever-living God,

strengthen our faith, hope, and love.

May we, as a married couple,

do with loving hearts what you ask of us

and come to share the life you promise.

Dear Friends,

It is with a sense of joy that I turn my thoughts to you again this evening. Thank you for your faithfulness and love and the power for good in our world that you are. I carry you every day in my prayer, both in thanksgiving and in petition for all that you need to grow in love and in faith.

Attached is my input for next Sunday, 29^th Sunday in Ordinary Time, and for the week following it. The theme for this is the great power of prayer that we have to change the world. So many things can get to us both in our own relationships and in the world around us. Losing heart is one of the great temptations that we can have because of all that is happening. Jesus teaches us to pray constantly and not to lose heart because he is with us. I hope that this reflection together and prayer together can help you to know the truth of his teaching.

May the week ahead be a really good one for you and for all those you love. You will be in my prayers during the week. Please pray for me and for one another for the gift of hope and confidence. Thank you.

Eugenia och Järfalla har haft en träff. Värnamo har fått ett vackert brev från samordnaren med en beskrivning av vår helg i Marielund. Vi i Karlstad ska träffas nu på söndag. Tack Herre för allas engagemang. Må allt bära frukt, frukt som består.

Kvinnan som har genomgått en svår hjärtoperation skrev till mig den 11 okt: "Första gången jag kom hem var den 20 september, men då var jag bara hemma ett dygn innan jag kom tillbaka till sjukhuset för att jag hade blivit sämre. Nu har jag varit hemma i några dagar och det känns bra.” Deo gratias. Herre, vi ber att hon får den bästa rehabiliteringen och blir helt återställd. Må hon vara öppen för all andlig och mänsklig hjälp som finns att få. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

En av våra samordnare J. ber om förbön. Hon skrev så här "Den 8/9 opererades min fot och jag är fortfarande sjukskriven. Stygnen togs bort i fredags efter 29 dagar, men såret har inte slutit sig än. Herre, vi överlämnar kvinnan till dig. Du vet hur viktiga våra fötter är. Lindra hennes och familjens oro. Hjälp henne att ta det lugnt så foten får en chans. Vi ber att hon blir helt återställd. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

The world today is burning for peace. It is found in love, it is found in divine love. Be those emissaries of love in situations you might find yourself in. October 16^th – 22^nd The power of prayer

‘Jesus told his disciples a parable about the need to pray continually and never to lose heart.’ There are so many things that knock the heart out of us today. In the Church there are all the sex abuse scandals; in society there are the financial scandals of politicians and business people; in family life there is a major breakdown; in parishes there are so many people who have given up. And on and on it goes. And yet we have a power that can bring us through all of it – the power of prayer. Prayer should not be an escape from the serious things that are all around us. We have to face up to all of them. But prayer is a reminder that we don’t have to face up to them on our own but with the presence and help of God. The two places where this prayer is most urgent is in our homes so that our family life can grow, and in our faith community so that we can become the people God wants, a people committed to his way for our world.

Almighty and ever-living God, our source of power and inspiration,

Dear Friends,

You are very much in my thoughts and prayers as we have now moved into the month of October. I pray that it will be a blessed month for you and for all your loved ones. As Catholics we think of it as the month of the Rosary. Every day I pray for you especially in the Rosary. And I would recommend this devotion very highly.

The attached is my input for next Sunday, 28^th Sunday in Ordinary Time, and for the week following this. The main theme of this input is the vital importance of gratitude in our relationship with God and of course with one another in marriage and family life. I thank God for you and for all that your love brings to the world we live in and to the life of the Church today. I pray that your love may grow stronger in the week ahead and that your sense of gratitude for all that you have with one another may be grow – and be expressed! May God bless all of us in the week ahead.

Den här veckan skriver Fr. Johnny bland annat till oss.: "One of the most worst experiences of human living is to be taken for granted - and it is also one of the most common.. En av de värsta erfarenheterna av mänskligt liv är att vara tagen för givet - och det är också en av de vanligaste. Vid slutet av brevet säger han: Come alive through gratitude. Bli levande genom tacksamhet. Herre, tack för Fr. Johnny, ge honom hälsa och allt han behöver. Jesus Heliga Hjärta,vi litar på dig.

Idag, torsdag, predikade Kardinal Collins under Mässan på dailytvmass.com. Han sade bland annat: "Spectacular things we do are not so important. Persistent in the little things we do day by day make a difference. If you get enough snowflakes together, you can stop a train." De stora saker vi gör är inte så viktigt. Det är uthållighet i de små sakerna vi gör dag för dag som gör skillnad. Om du samlar ihop snöflingor kan du stoppa ett tåg. Jag tänkte på bönegruppen. Bönen pågår dagligen och uppnår säkert mer än vi kan ana.

Vidare sade han: "Persistence in love, fidelity which we celebrate every anniversary and every funeral. Fidelity over time that is a virtue we should meditate over. "Uthållighet i kärlek, trohet som vi firar varje bröllopsdag och varje begravning. Troheten över tid är en dygd vi borde meditera över.

Jag oroar mig för våra barn och ungdomar. En präst har sagt att ibland kan man säga att vi konfirmerar barn ur Kyrkan. Barn och ungdomar är beroende av att ha vänner i Kyrkan annars känner de sig utanför och vill inte vara med. Herre, vi överlämnar barn och ungdomar till dig. Du som är källan till allt liv och känner alla. Herre, drar dem till varandra och visa dem rätta vägen och gör dem villiga att följa den. Inspirera alla som har med barn och ungdomar att göra. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, hör våra böner.

Nyheter från Ukraina är både glädjande och skrämmande. Herre, var med det Ukrainska folket. Tack för det mod och den generositet de visar varandra. Vi ber att du griper in på något sätt. Vi ber för dem som tillhör våra församlingar. Låt dem känna sig burna av våra böner. Du vet vad finns i våra hjärtan. Det är svårt att hitta de rätta orden. Låt det inte bli värre och låt visdom och bra omdöme råda. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Vi ber för frid i hjärtat, frid i familjen och frid på jorden. Ge alla världens ledare visdom och bra omdöme. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

October 9^th – 15^th Thanksgiving

Jesus said: “Were not all ten made clean? The other nine, where are they? It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner”. One of the worst experiences of human living is that of being taken for granted – and it is also one of the most common. It reduces us to being objects of service to others and can easily result in resentment. But those who suffer most from ingratitude are those who are ungrateful. They become very self-centred and gradually lose touch with the wonder of life. They cannot smell the beauty of the flowers or hear the wonderful song of the birds. They don’t notice the sun shining or appreciate the greatness of the changing seasons and the magnificence of the world we live in. And they miss the real experience of being loved. They are living dead. Come alive through gratitude.

Morning Prayer, when together

Lord, our help and guide,

make your love the foundation of our lives.

May our love for you express itself through our eagerness

to do good for others as a married couple.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

During the day, when apart

Lord, accept the prayers and gifts

we offer you in faith and love.

Dear Friends,

In all my years as a priest the most difficult thing I have found is to persuade married couples and families to find creative ways of constantly building their relationships of love and commitment. I have found the same reluctance in priests and parishes to look for and embrace ways of constantly renewing the vibrancy of faith and building community. The mentality has so often been that we are alright as we are. It is only when we have difficulties that we might look for help – but then it is often too late.

The Word of God for next Sunday, 27^th Sunday in Ordinary Time, is a call to go for all that is best in our following of Christ in both the Domestic Church of the home and in the local Church of the parish. This weekly programme is particularly for you as married couples and spilling over to your families and faith community. I hope you will find the attached helpful for you in your continued growth for the sake of the world in which we live.

You will be in my prayers every day of the week ahead. May God be with you to bless you and all your loved ones with the joy and freedom of your love for one another. Please continue to pray for me and for one another and for all couples and families. Thank you.

Må vart och ett av våra hem bli en plats fylld av Din närvaro, en källa som förmedlar Din frid". Bönehäftet. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

Vi ber för frid i hjärtat, frid i familjen och frid på jorden. Vi ber att ryssarna börjar förstå sanningen av vad som händer i Ukraina och att det blir början till fred. Var med dem som lider så förskräckligt. Det är svårt att ta in. Hjälp världens ledare att fortsätta vara generösa och ge dem visdom och bra omdöme. Jesus Heliga Hjärta, vi litar på Dig.

October 2^nd – 8^th The gift of faith

Jesus said to his disciples: “When you have done all that you have been told to do, say, ‘we are merely servants; we have done no more than our duty’”. One of the most disturbing features of our life of faith today is the number of people who reduce the practice of their faith to the barest minimum and mostly without any joy. Many people are the same way about marriage and family life where the whole thing becomes a burden for them. We have a wonderful God who loves us with a passionate love. We have unbelievable gifts from God especially in the Sacraments of the Eucharist and Reconciliation through which we share in the intimate life of God. We are temples of God’s Holy Spirit, with all the power of God’s love to transform our world. It seems such a shame to ruin it all with the mentality ‘do I have to do this?’ instead of freely taking our full part in building God’s Kingdom.

Morning Prayer, when together

Father, your love for us

surpasses all our hopes and desires.

Forgive our failings; keep us in your peace

and lead us as a married couple in the way of salvation.

Father receive the gift of our love for one another.
