<title>Season 4 has begun!</title><link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/star2/BzzS/~3/Z1m0xLsnRhI/23087</link><guid isPermaLink="false">http://sc2armory.com/forums/topic/23087</guid><description>The fourth ladder season is upon us, featuring the return of Metalopolis, the removal of close spawn locations and reduced season lengths. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;blockquote class="decoda-blizzard"&gt;&lt;div class="decoda-quoteBody"&gt;Season 4 has arrived! Season 3 milestone rewards will be locked in at this time and bonus pools will reset. Hidden skill ratings used for matchmaking and league placement will carry over from the previous season, so players who have completed placement matches in a previous season will only need to play one new placement match. Don’t forget to review the map changes which are coming in Season 4 as well.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Beginning with Season 4, two changes are coming to future ladder seasons:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
• Each season will now last for approximately two months. &lt;br /&gt;
• Grandmaster league placement time will be reduced to one week (from two weeks) to account for the reduced season length.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

Protoss is getting a few buffs that will effect the whole race and the radius of EMP is reduced to the same radius as Psi Storm. Most of these changes were discussed at the Blizzcon panels.&lt;br /&gt;

I am sure everyone is extremely excited that Blizzcon will be starting tomorrow. What does Blizzcon have in store for us? Nothing is certain yet, but I am sure everyone can agree with me when I say, that we want some juicy Heart of the Swarm campaign information and also an update on the new multi-player units (we have been given a little taste, but we want the whole meal). Lets also not forget about all the information we may hear about Diablo 3, possibly a release date? Lets hope so!&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;blockquote class="decoda-blizzard"&gt;&lt;div class="decoda-quoteBody"&gt;Season 3 is coming to an end soon, and Season 4 is on the horizon. At the end of each ladder season, leagues are “locked” which means players can no longer be promoted or demoted out of their current league or division, and bonus pools will stop growing. That’s no reason to quit playing: even after leagues are locked, players will still be able to play out their remaining bonus pool and compete for standing within their divisions until the end of the season two weeks later. The match-making skill ratings which determine league promotion and demotion will also continue to update during the lock, so games played during the lock still count toward league placement in Season 4.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Season 3 lock will go into effect the week of October 10th. Season 3 will officially end, and Season 4 will begin on the week of October 24th. Season milestone rewards will be locked in at this time, and bonus pools will start over. Hidden skill ratings used for matchmaking and league placement will carry over from the previous season, so players who have completed placement matches in a previous season will only need to play one new placement match after Season 4 starts.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Beginning with Season 4, there are two changes coming to future ladder seasons: &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
•	Each season will now last for approximately two months &lt;br /&gt;
•	Grandmaster league placement time will be reduced to one week (from two weeks) to account for the reduced season length. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;/blockquote&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

So in season four Blizzard are making two changes to the Seasons design. As quoted above from the Blizzard community site seasons will now only last approximately two months. And Grandmaster placement will only take one week instead of the two required in previous seasons one to three - this is to account for the shorter seasons as said by Blizzard &lt;a href="http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/3229387002#4" title=""&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
I believe that this is to do with people being stuck in leagues not suiting them and being too scared to play. An example would be people who are close to being kicked out of their league so rather than getting it over with and moving on they stop playing 1v1. This makes it much harder for people to get a promotion from the league below. I will use Nighthawk in season two as an example. He sat at rank one Diamond for a long time proving himself equal to low masters going about 50% wlr and quite often beating people mid masters. But he got no promotion until the season changed where he was placed straight into masters. Hopefully this will eliminate these cases. A current example of this is Stroid. Look how many points he is on and his match history.&lt;br /&gt;

Ok so the Foo Fighters will be performing at this years BlizzCon. I'm not sure if people actually listen to this band or why Blizzard decided to hire them instead of an &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorgoroth" title=""&gt;actual good band&lt;/a&gt;. Despite this, look forward to hearing their few good songs they have that perform on the radio once every few years or their 25+ audience venue tours.
