Beta Pushed Back to 2010

Starcraft Legacy recently covered an event called "IgroMir", which by itself was interesting, check it out.

Though the real news from this event is quite saddening. But if you know Blizzard, it won't really surprise you:

Question from Audience: When is StarCraft 2 coming out?
Chris Sigaty: Tomorrow (audience laughs). Of course not. Normally at Blizzard we don't speak of dates. So far we're planning on making the beta-test next year. As soon as we feel that the game is ready, we'll release it.

Blizzcon Information

As everyone knows, Blizzcon 2009 concluded last week, with plenty of information released about Starcraft 2, as well as the rest of Blizzard's products. Unforunately, though over 60 pictures and a few videos were taken of the event by SCZ members, due to a technical blunder, all of our SCZ videos and pictures were deleted. Thankfully, many other attendees of Blizzcon have posted their videos and images, so not all is lost!

Also, luckly, the SCZ memory of Starcraft 2 and its gameplay has not been wiped as well. However, please note that all answers will not be final and is probably going to change many times before Starcraft 2 ships.

SCZ goes to Blizzcon!

As everyone knows, Blizzard's 2009 Blizzcon opens doors on Friday precisesly at 11:30 AM for the grand opening ceremony. Luckily for all of us, SCZ will be able to keep the news flowing throughout this exciting period as Imperial-Guard, one of out moderators, will be attending the event. SC2 Delayed Until 2010

It is with great sorrow that we announce that the anxiously awaited StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty will not make its debut in 2009. The words from Blizzard Poster Cydra:

Today we announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009. Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.

Our mission is to develop games that deliver an epic entertainment experience. As part of that commitment, we will always take as much time as needed to ensure that our games and services meet the expectations of our players and the standard for quality that we set for ourselves as developers. As we work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination, well also continue to polish and refine StarCraft II, and we look forward to delivering a real-time strategy gaming experience worthy of the series legacy in the first half of 2010.

We will share more details about the beta, Battle.net, and StarCraft IIs launch in the future. Keep an eye on the official website at http://www.starcraft2.com for updates, and as always, thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support for StarCraft II and all of Blizzard Entertainments games.

Fansite Q&A #6

Blizzard recently released their sixth fansite Q&A to the lucky polish site Starcraft2.net.pl. The Q&A contained some interesting information about balance issues in StarCraft 2 with the various races.

1. Dustin said on BlizzCast #8 that the Banshee is a very powerful air-ground unit vs. ground defenses. What are the chances of Banshees against ground units? For example is it equal 5 Banshees against 5 Stalkers or the Banshees have to run if they notice Stalkers.

Yes, the Banshee can be a very strong anti-ground air unit but it is definitely not unstoppable. For example, Marines and Thors can be great ground counter units for Terran and Hydralisks for Zerg are also good. And just like the example in the question, Stalkers with blink ability and High Templars with psionic storm can be counter Banshees as well.

SCZ June 22nd Press Event

This past week, our co-admin Rylin here at SCZ had the opportunity to go to a "secret" SC2 press event over at the Blizzard headquarters in Irvine, CA. Attendees were given the opportunity to play SC2 extensively throughout the day, as well as interact with the game developers and management.

David Kim Interviews

Our neighborhood fansites, SCLegacy and Teamliquid, recently picked up a few interviews by David Kim, reknowned Starcraft 2 Player. Mr. Kim is a Blizzard employee who has debuted his Starcraft 2 skills in the first 3 battle reports. The interviews were translated from Korean into plain English for the rest of us and have revealed some insights into Blizzard's ideals and strengths.

Battle Report 3? [Update]

Our neighborhood fansite Starcraft 2 Forums recently recieved word from their inside sources that the third Starcraft 2 Battle Report may be hitting Starcraft2.com as soon as tomorrow. However, for those too eager to watch it in full HD glory, the video has been somehow recorded and distributed online already. The fight showcases a Zerg versus Protoss match, between David Kim and Yeon-Ho Lee.
