The Hangover 2 is a sequel to the breakout comedy hit of 2009.

Details are currently scarce about the sequel, although it is known that at least part of the film will be shot in Thailand. The film will begin shooting this fall. Most likely, alcohol and drugs will play some part in making them hungover. Totally called it.

Trailer

Not yet.

The Scoop

Director Todd Phillips is expected to return, as well as most of the cast from the original. Phillips is currently finishing up Due Date, but will start filming in the fall. Maybe this time, Mike Tyson will be eaten by the tiger.

Who’s It For?

R.

Movie Release Date

May 26, 2011.

Who’s In It?

Zach Galifianakis … Alan Garner
Bradley Cooper … Phil Wenneck
Heather Graham … Jade
Ken Jeong … Mr. Chow
Ed Helms … Stu Price
Jeffrey Tambor … Sid Garner

Interesting Fact

I never get hungover. I merely get into bad moods after heavy drinking. Totally different.

Related Movies

The Hangover, Due Date

What’s Good About It?

The original was funny, if a little overhyped. The second should have a bit bigger budget, and the Thailand setting should be fun for a little hooker action.

What’s Bad About It?

Most of the time, a sequel to a comedy is never as good as the first one. Groundhog Day 2 sucked.

What? There wasn’t a Groundhog Day 2? How am I supposed to know that? Get your head out of your bottom (heh, bottom) and think of a sequel for yourself. How about Caddyshack 2? That work? You bastards.

Our Clever Prediction

The trailer will make the film look funnier than it actually is. Retarded college frat boys will swear that it’s the funniest film EVER.

The Hands of Shang-Chi is based on the Marvel comic book character. Shang-Chi is a master of Kung Fu with no superpowers, only mastery of martial arts.

The Hands of Shang-Chi will follow Shang-Chi as he learns that his father is a criminal. Or should I say, the world’s WORST criminal. Whatever that means.

Trailer

Not yet.

The Scoop

The film is being directed by Woo-ping Yuen, who has a long career as a fight choreographer for various films, specifically The Matrix trilogy, and the Kill Bill movies. So the guy knows a good kung fu fight when he sees one. It remains to be seen if he can tell a story, but then, this is a comic book film based on the master of king fu. I’m betting the story won’t be the reason people come see it.

Who’s It For?

Probably PG-13.

Movie Release Date

Right now it’s set for 2011, but no casting has been announced, so it could be later.

Who’s In It?

I just told you! Nothing yet. Why don’t you ever listen to me?

Interesting Fact

Shang Chi means ‘rising of the spirit.’ I thought you should know that.

Related Movies

The Matrix, Kill Bill, Fearless, Unleashed

What’s Good About It?

This is less of a comic book film than it’s a kung fu movie. They have the best guy in the game for choreography directing, so at the very least it should have some cool fights. The nature of the story doesn’t strike me as needing a big budget, so it should prove a profitable film, even without a big box office.

What’s Bad About It?

The character is essentially unknown. I read a ton of comics, and am barely familiar with him. So name recognition will do nothing for this.

Our Clever Prediction

Most likely it’ll be part of Marvel’s planned string of moderately budgeted films, along with Dr. Strange and Luke Cage, and it may be one of the mini movies they’re planning to play before their major released like Captain America and Thor. Maybe a really cool fight scene could get people interested enough to make it a hit. Maybe.

The Flash is an adaptation of the popular and long running DC comic book character.

There have been a number of different Flashes over the years, but the most popular and most likely to receive a big screen treatment is Barry Allen. Allen is a police scientist, meaning he works for Central City’s CSI, and one night while working lightening strikes him and soaks him in chemicals. The result? A painful death. Oh, wait. That would be the outcome if I was struck by lightening. Allen gains superspeed. As a result, he becomes the superhero The Flash. Cause he ‘Flashes’ by the bad guys. Like a flash of lightening. He’s fast.

How are you not getting this?

Trailer

Not yet.

The Scoop

There are currently a billion writers for The Flash, from comic book scribe Geoff Johns to current director Greg Berlanti. It seems the script by Berlanti, who also wrote the upcoming Green Lantern film, is the most likely to make it to the screen, and he’s also signed on to direct. Geoff Johns, who recently brought Barry Allen back to life, is working to oversee all upcoming DC comic films, and he knows the DC Universe as well as just about anyone, so at the very least the film will have a good source to make sure everything meshes well with what fans want.

Who’s It For?

Probably PG-13.

Movie Release Date

2012-2013.

Who’s In It?

No casting news yet.

Interesting Fact

For a time, current Flash director Greg Berlanti was rumored to be directing The Green Lantern.

Related Movies

The Green Lantern, Superman Returns, The Dark Knight,

What’s Good About It?

The Flash looks cool as hell. The boots, the ear things. All cool. If a good director comes in and does something interesting, it’ll be great. I’m betting most of the film will be in slow motion, which is not what I mean by interesting, but it could still be cool. I’d get the director of the Incredibles to make The Flash. The speed of Dash is the best I’ve seen on screen. Ever. I think that was Brad Byrd, who’s making the next Mission Impossible, but maybe Warner Bros can lure him away with a dump truck full of money.

What’s Bad About It?

Outside of anything Christopher Nolan is working on, DC doesn’t have a great track record. Green Lantern doesn’t fill me with hope, and the Flash, if done in a basic, by the numbers, way, will be boring.

Our Clever Prediction

If Green Lantern fails to live up to expectations, The Flash may be put on the back burner. Then the next Batman film will come out, and the studio will think that these films can be profitable. They will most likely fail to realize that its the quality of the film, and not the character, that makes the film successful.

The Doom Patrol is based on the DC comic book by the same name. The characters tend to be younger heroes with abilities that alienate them from the society that they protect.

Not much is known about the details of the film at present, in the comics the one character to consistently be a part of the team is Robotman, although Elasti-girl and Negative Man are also expected to be in the film.

Trailer

Not yet.

The Scoop

Writer Adam Turner is currently credited with the film, although there does not appear to be a script turned in yet. The film is still in the earliest stages of development, and it could be a while before it goes into production.

Who’s It For?

PG, maybe PG-13.

Movie Release Date

I doubt we’ll see it before 2012, but it’s possible a late 2011 release could happen.

Who’s In It?

No casting yet.

Interesting Fact

Negative Man’s power? Negativity. He’s the most depressing character in comics. Right after the Blue Beatle, who just sucks.

Related Movies

Teen Titans, The Dark Knight, Runaways, Superman

What’s Good About It?

Any comic book film can be good. The series isn’t that well known, so some liberties could be taken with the story and few people will be offended.

What’s Bad About It?

The lack of popularity means that the budget won’t be all that high. No one knowing the characters also means it’ll need to have extensive introductions to a whole team of characters. DC is also looking to make Teen Titans, which is better known, both as a comic and an animated TV show, so I’d bet that’ll get made first.

Our Clever Prediction

I honestly don’t see this getting made. If DC has a ton of success with their next crop of movies, it could happen, but this is 3rd string at best, so I wouldn’t keep your hopes up.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair is the fourth book in the series of Christian allegories by C.S. Lewis. This time, young children are charged with finding and rescuing the son of Caspian, who is currently a king of Narnia.

The Silver Chair is the first film in the series to not include the Pevensie children, who have thus far been the main characters in the series. The main characters are Eustace Scrubb and her schoolmate Jill Pole. Scrubb will be introduced to the series this fall in the third film in the series, The Dawn Treader. No doubt Jesus will make an appearance in Lion form.

Trailer

Not yet.

The Scoop

Very little is known about the film at present. No director or writer has been announced, and it looks like the studio may be waiting for The Dawn Treader to release before they commit to the next film in the series.

Who’s It For?

PG, maybe PG-13.

Movie Release Date

Possibly 2011.

Who’s In It?

Will Poulter is playing Scrubb in Dawn Treader, so he’ll probably return for The Silver Chair, maybe Ben Barnes will return as Caspian, and no doubt Liam Neeson will play Aslan again.

Interesting Fact

After writing the Chronicles of Narnia, C.S Lewis went on to start Scientology. He later published a rewrite of the Narnia series where Aslan is an alien who lives in a volcano. For some reason, it didn’t catch on.

Related Movies

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

What’s Good About It?

I’ve enjoyed the Narnia series thus far. Dawn Treader looks good, and I expect to enjoy The Silver Chair as well.

What’s Bad About It?

I doubt it’ll be released in 2011. These are special effects heavy films, and if they’re waiting on box office returns for Dawn Treader, there’s no way a quality film will be ready within a year.

Our Clever Prediction

I’m betting it’ll get made. The others have been pretty successful, and this should be as well. I suspect a solid box office, with good reviews.

Cabin in the Woods is a twist on the classic horror setup of teens going out to a cabin in the woods being killed off.

The twist to the story appears to come from two older white collar businessmen having a connection to the cabin in some mysterious way. The college students show up, and…

DIE!!! Well, presumably.

Trailer

Not yet.

The Scoop

The film was written by Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon, who worked together on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, so you know the writing is top notch. Goddard is directing, and he doesn’t have any theatrical experience directing, although he did write Cloverfield, so the guy has some skill. The fact that Whedon is on the film gives me great hope. Horror films are many times the first, or at least earlier, work for many directors, so maybe he’ll be able to prove himself.

Who’s It For?

It’s being screened as R.

Movie Release Date

Well, it was supposed to be February 5, 2010. Then it was pushed back to January 14, 2011 so that it could be converted into 3D. Now, it has been delayed indefinitely due to MGM’s financial problems. I’m going to guess it’ll come out in Russia in July of 2030, find no audience, and you’ll end up downloading a pirated version online, get caught, and spend the rest of your life in jail.

What? I said I was guessing. Never said it’d be a good guess.

Who’s In It?

Richard Jenkins … Steve Hadley
Bradley Whitford … Richard Sitterson
Jesse Williams … Holden McCrea
Chris Hemsworth … Curt Vaughan
Fran Kranz … Marty Mikalski
Kristen Connolly … Dana Polk
Anna Hutchison … Jules Louden
Brian White¹ … Alex Truman

Interesting Fact

The tag lines are awesome for this film.

If an old man warns you not to go there… make fun of him.

If you hear a strange sound outside… have sex.

That’s what I always do!

Related Movies

Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Evil Dead trilogy,

What’s Good About It?

Joss Whedon rocks. Firefly and Serenity were awesome, as was Buffy. The Avengers will also rock. Similar to Sam Raimi, this guy knows everything about these genres and no doubt has a lot of ideas to make it a combination of funny and scary.

What’s Bad About It?

All the delays worry me. It may be as simple as the studio wanting to cash in on 3D and then having financial problems later, but I think it may be the film wasn’t all that good to begin with and then needed to get the ticket prices high for the opening weekend box office.

Our Clever Prediction

I’m giving Whedon credit. His stuff is generally solid. I wasn’t a big fan of Dollhouse, but it was still halfway decent. I think the box office will be decent given the size of the film. I didn’t find the budget, but it screams of low cost. If the film is still delayed at the time Thor comes out, it could help that Chris Hemsworth is in the film. First time the Avengers’ director and his Thor worked together.

The Avenged tells the story of a comic book writer who takes on the guise of his fictional creation after his wife and child are murder.

I wish I had more on the film, because it sounds cool, it’s still in the earlier stages of development, and there isn’t much news out right now.

Trailer

Not yet.

The Scoop

The film may end up directed by Samuel Haun, it was created by lead Brandon Slagle, whose work I’m not familiar with, but he came up with the idea specifically for himself to star, so he should at least understand the character.

Who’s It For?

Pg-13 or R.

Movie Release Date

2011-2012.

Who’s In It?

Marian Zapico … Isabel
Brandon Slagle … Bryan Yuen Sage
Wolfgang Meyer … Rocco
Frederic Doss … CSI Elliot
Jimmy Creamer … DJ
Jeff Quinlan … Coroner Jones
Antonio San Miguel … Detective Mendez

Interesting Fact

The tag line for the film is ‘Superheroes are real…’

Related Movies

The Dark Knight, Spider-man, American Splendor

What’s Good About It?

The idea seems sound. Hopefully they take it serious. It could be cool

What’s Bad About It?

A lot of unknowns so far. The actors and director don’t have much experience, and the film could end up a really bad direct to video release.

Our Clever Prediction

I’m giving it a chance, but only until I’ve seen the trailer. I need to get a feel for the tone before I commit to it. Still, I doubt it’ll make much money at the box office.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn tells the story of a young reporter as he follows stories wherever they may lead, even to the ends of the earth.

Tintin is a Belgian cartoon character, who has been famous for many years. He has a white dog named Snowy, encounters a lunatic pirate captain, a mad scientist, and most horrific of all, twins. Abomination.

Trailer

Not yet.

The Scoop

The first of three planned Tintin films, The Secret of the Unicorn will be directed by Steven Spielberg, with the others directed by coproducer Peter Jackson. All three films will use similar motion capture technology and 3D to Avatar, so expect some of the most eye popping visuals ever in a kid’s film. No word yet on who the director for the third film will be, but they better get somebody good, because anyone following Spielberg and Jackson is going to have a lot to live up to.

Who’s It For?

It could go PG-13, but I’d guess PG.

Movie Release Date

First is scheduled to be released on December 23, 2011.

Who’s In It?

Daniel Craig … Red Rackham
Simon Pegg … Inspector Thompson
Cary Elwes … Pilot
Jamie Bell … Tintin
Andy Serkis … Captain Haddock
Nick Frost … Thomson
Tony Curran … Lt. Delcourt

Interesting Fact

Tintin spelled backwards is Nitnit. It really makes you think.

Related Movies

Avatar, Lord of the Rings, ET, Beowulf

What’s Good About It?

This looks like a passion project for both Spielberg and Jackson. I’m interested to see what they can do with the new technology.

What’s Bad About It?

Spielberg still makes solid films, but nothing really legendary in a while. Maybe he’s lost his inspiration. Also, Peter Jackson may end up directing the Hobbit films, which could delay the second entry in the series.

Our Clever Prediction

It will make big money. No doubt about that. I think critics will like it, and hopefully it’ll be fun. No doubt it will be able to visually capture the look and feel of the cartoon, since they’re using the motion capture tech from Avatar.

Terminator 5 is a sequel to Terminator: Salvation, which starred Christian Bale and Sam Worthington as rebel fighters battling the machines in the future.

Various reports have come in regarding T5. It could be set in the present, with John Connor coming back in time to fight the machines, or it could still be set in the future, as with the last film. Salvation ended with (spoiler) John Connor getting a heart transplant from the cyborg play by Worthington. Maybe his new heart will make him a super machine fighting warrior.

This is a McG film, after all.

Trailer

There is no Terminator 5 trailer yet.

The Scoop

Salvation, while initially deemed a failure, ended up making a ton internationally, with over $300 million, so it looks like T5 is a go, maybe even a T6. McG has said that the next film will deal with time travel, although he hasn’t given away many details at this time. He did want to go back to the roots of the series, with a man coming back in time and running from a Terminator. It looks like there will be a new kind of Terminator as well, but again, plot details are scarce for the moment. It should be noted that Sam Worthington has said he’d love to come back for a sequel, which, with all the possibilities of time travel, could be possible.

Who’s It For?

R? PG-13? Who cares?

Movie Release Date

2012 at the earliest.

Who’s In Terminator 5 ?

Christian Bale in T5 is all but a go and is the most likely to return, along with Bryce Dallas Howard as his wife. Nothing confirmed yet.

Interesting Fact

Other possible story elements could include the return of Sarah Connor and Arnold. Also, a Terminator that can merge with other terminators to become a bigger, badder terminator. Like Voltron!

3D? Will Terminator 5
(2012) be in 3D? The new Terminator movie has James Cameron behind it as the writer which almost guarantees it will be in 3D. Rumor has it Cameron is relaunching the Terminator franchise with new character development and Avatar technology, so they can reboot the franchise.

What’s Good About It?

I like robots. I’m not giving McG anymore than that.

What’s Bad About It?

McG. McG. McG. McG. He’s the retard who made the Charlies Angels Movies and Terminator
Salvation. He’s just a Hollywood hack who seems mostly capable of
screwing up movies. Like Brett Ratner, only slightly more successful.
His presence in a film is similar to the robot apocalypse that’s
coming. Everything he touches turns to shit.

Our Clever Prediction

If the last crapfest made enough to warrant a sequel, I don’t see why this won’t also. God help us all.
