The Hobbit

The Hobbit has cast Billy Connelly to play Dain Ironfoot. How was Billy Connelly not in The Lord of the Rings? He’s perfect! His character is a dwarf. Perfect!

If you can’t tell, I’m in favor of this.

The young woman is a writer, and she attempts suicide at one point, which is when she realizes her eccentricities are more than just quirks and she needs help. She’s 22, and ends up on a psychiatrist’s chair. It’s here that she finds comfort and moves on with her life.

Your Voice in My Head

Your Voice in My Head is being directed by David Yates, who made the last four Harry Potter films, and he wants his old Hermione back, so Emma Watson might be the crazy lady for Your Voice in My Head.

The story is based on the true life memoirs of Emma Forrest. Holy crap. The writer’s name is Emma? AND the star? This must be magic!

Alien 2012

This new ‘Alien’ movie is no longer a prequel as planned, it will be an entirely new story after Fox Studios has ditched the idea set forth by Scott. Noomi Rapace is still set to star as the main character. The film is a retelling of the years before Ridley and the crew were shitting bricks and running from the original Alien. We learn more about what the Aliens are about, why we were out in space to begin with and more.

Prometheus ties up a lot of loose ends for fans of the original Alien series.

The Good

That there is an ounce of faith Ridley Scott can make anything decent out of a depleted franchise. Our bet? He makes this into a 3-D movie, giving it a new twist. Update! Confirmed! Scott has confirmed the new Prometheus movie will be in 3D.

The Bad

The death of possible one of my favorite Sci-fi films as a child… however, I doubt Ridley Scott will take that many chances with the rebirth of his movie… right?

The Verdict

We still have faith in Scott, and feel getting rid of the prequel was a good idea, but what do you think?

The Amazing Spider-Man

Finally! There’s a full trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, and it is… pretty amazing actually. I’m surprised. Pleasantly surprised. I’d hoped for good things, but I wasn’t expecting much based on what I’ve seen so far, but this trailer kicks a whole lot of ass. I’m happy to see it.

Dredd

These pics from Dredd are pretty cool. First, Olivia Thirlby looks pretty, which is good. Judge Dredd looks grumpy, which is also good. And the pic of Ms. Thirlby shooting a dude in the head is badass. I’m liking this.

John Carter

I’m nearly finished with the first John Carter of Mars book, and it’s not bad. Very campy, but that’s cool. These new photos from John Carter are okay, and I’ll say that Taylor Kitsch has a great look for Carter, and Lynn Collins is well cast as well. I’m not 100% sold on the film yet, but it looks decent. I’m cool with this.

Wrath of the Titans

Wrath of the Titans has a few new posters, one of which makes Sam Worthington look like a total tool, and in the other one he rides a flying horse. SNAP.

He now has to bring the bad guys a briefcase within 21 hours or his family is dead. He doesn’t know who to trust. At some point, someone may say, “Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird. It’s a Plane! It’s… SUPERMAN!”

Mabrouk El Mechri is directing Cold Light of Day. The only film of his I’ve heard of is JVCD, which was pretty cool.

Scott Wiper and John Petro wrote the film. Wiper previously wrote The Condemned, which starred Stone Cold Steve Austin, so you know this guy is a future Oscar winner.

Battleship 2012

The Battleship Movie is going to focused around an alien attack on earth, which quite frankly.. is getting old. However, in 2012, the aliens, called The Regents, come here looking for something, we aren’t exactly clear on what till the end.
Our guess? Probably water, or our women. Considering Rihanna is in the movie, maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll take our women. Then again, Aliens never come to earth for anything else rather than our water….hmmm.

Battleship Trailer

Rihanna in Battleship? Yes, and we still don’t know what her role is. She plays Raikes, a female officer of some sort… maybe she’ll be like Erika Eleniak in Under Seige, and jump topless out of a cake?

This fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals. Liam Neeson plays Admiral Shane, he’s in charge of saving the earth from the Aliens. Good thing Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna are around to help him out.

The Amazing Spider-Man

I like these new pics from The Amazing Spider-Man because they kinda showcase the differences and similarities between Uncle Ben and Aunt May vs. Peter’s parents, Richard and Mary Parker. You see the idealized parents that an orphan might imagine, and the real life human beings who have done their best to raise you with good morals and a strong grasp on how to be a man.

Granted, I hate that the film might be doing the whole ‘Peter’s parents were SPIES!’ thing, but at the very least they seem to be playing the two sides of his parentage against one another. Kinda cool.

GI Joe 2: Retaliation

This new pic from GI Joe 2: Retaliation has taught me two things: The Rock is a total badass, and Bruce Willis is a billion times more badass because he doesn’t have all the muscles, he’s a lot older, and he STILL is more magnetic that the Rock. Good picture.

I’ve finally figured out the promotional campaign for Riddick. They’re going to give us one picture EVERY DAY until we put them in the right order and make a flip book. And THAT is a revolution in filmmaking. I don’t know why someone didn’t realize you can release the film one frame at a time before!

Blade Runner Sequel

This piece of news should be taken with a grain of salt.

Actually, more than a grain. This news should be taken with a salt lick. Rumor has it that Harrison Ford is in talks to join the sequel to Blade Runner. There has been very little news about this film so far, with some suggesting that Ridley Scott might come back to make the new one, or that it could be a remake, reboot, prequel or sequel, so this is surprising news. I think it means that the new film will be an actual sequel. Which is cool.

Unless it’s a reboot, and Harrison is playing the bad guy or something. ARGH. Where’s that salt lick?

The Avengers

This is the extended TV spot for The Avengers, and it is freaking awesome. I’m far more excited for this film now. Like… twice as excited. BAM!

Battleship

Here’s another extended Superbowl TV Spot, this time for Battleship, or, as I like to refer to it, Transformers 4. Seriously, how is Michael Bay NOT the director? It has Rihanna!

John Carter

In more Taylor Kitsch news, we also have an extended Superbowl spot for John Carter. It looks better than Battleship. Man, this guy is either going to become a massive star, or be a total failure.

I don’t think Bitter Pill is going to be a big success. Soderbergh keeps making these odd films, and while they’re generally decent, they seem to be more of an experiment than actual real attempts at making films.

I liked Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but she needs to make a few more really good films before I believe in her ability to really be the star of a film.

“A Princess of Mars” was originally published as “Under the Moons of Mars” by Norman Bean (Edgar Rice Burroughs’ pseudonym) in The All-Story (six pulp magazine issues February – July, 1912). Burroughs was originally afraid that he might be ridiculed for writing such a tale, so he decided to use a pen name. The pseudonym was supposed to be a pun “Normal Bean” (as in “I’m a normal bean”) to reassure people, but the man who typeset the text thought it was a mistake, so he changed it to “Norman”.
