Today’s music industry is full of songwriters, singers and musicians of various abilities, styles and character. It can be a competitive journey in finding one’s distinctive place for utilizing gifts and getting to the pinnacle point in a music career. There is a young singer with an incredible voice who is in the beginning of her career, but is quickly becoming a voice that is being set apart. Baltimore’s Brittney Wright is such one talent establishing her place as a true talent in gospel music.

Brittney has a tangible anointing that is rare,” says Billboard Gospel chart topping vocalist Earnest Pugh. “Very seldom do you find an anointed, humble artist with a loving spirit that persuades all who comes in contact with her that she genuinely loves God’s people. She is well on her way to establishing herself as force to be reckoned with in the gospel music industry.”

Brittney’s debut solo album, The Beginning is proving to be an inspiration to so many people across the country. Her popular radio hit “I Win” is a soul stirring song of triumph encouraging every listener to believe that they will overcome any situation they find themselves in with the help and power of Jesus Christ. “We as people don’t even realize that we hold the power in our tongues; we just have to speak it into the atmosphere,” proclaims Brittney. “I want the listener to realize that you already have the victory because the fight was fixed, we already know the outcome and we are conquerors.”

Brittney’s new single is an urban inspired rendition of the favorite hymn “I Need Thee” which exemplifies her ability to deliver innovative music for today’s listener while capturing classic gospel elements that transcends across generations. Click to listen While “Hey, I’m Forgiven” is an acoustic driven tune with tribal chant undertones proclaiming a clear message of redemption.

Brittney hopes that when people listen to The Beginning, they will understand that no matter where they are in their relationship with God, there’s nothing that can keep them from God’s love. “Everyone hurts, cries and loves,” says Brittney. “I want listeners to feel empowered, encouraged and confident in who God says they are and who they are called to be. You don’t have to stay where you are. With God’s help, you will move forward and WIN!”

What to Say and What Not to Say on Social Media Websites

Social media is overwhelmingly popular. People of every demographic have been lured in by the convenience and intrigue of these websites. No one can argue that social media has helped to make the world a much smaller place.

With a few clicks of their mouse, people can easily connect with friends, colleagues, and family members from all around the world. Consumers can even connect with their favorite businesses, follow their favorite celebrities, and share personal pictures and videos.

However, that’s not to say that social media doesn’t have its disadvantages. It’s main downfall is that these websites make it too easy for people to over-share. This leaves many people questioning where the line should be drawn. When using social media websites, what should be shared and what should be kept to yourself?

Social Media Safety: How Much Information Is Too Much?

One of the main reasons that people need to watch what they say online is to keep themselves safe. Social media gives criminals the perfect resource from which to find their next victims. Between May of 2008 and January of 2009, Facebook removed almost 5,600 sex offenders from the site. Currently, registered sex offenders are not allowed to use Facebook. Unfortunately, that’s not stopping them.

Research has shown that criminals, including sex offenders, use websites like these everyday. It’s almost impossible for such a popular website to regulate every single member. Members need to remember this and watch what they say on social media websites.

When using social media, people need to carefully guard their personal information, including their:

Address
Birthday
Name and address of their employer
School
Extracurricular activities
Current location
Any other identifying information

People may also want to avoid giving out information about their schedule. Letting people know that you aren’t home or are planning a vacation can make you a target for a crime.

Information Your Employer Doesn’t Need to Know

When using social media, people need to ask themselves if they would want their employer or future employer to see the information they share. Employers also use social media. Many employers check up on applicants and employees to get an idea of what a person is really like.

Speaking negatively about an employer or coworker can also get people into trouble. Social media websites are no place to complain about your job, boss, coworker, or customers. Disrespectful or inappropriate behavior can put workers’ job in jeopardy.

If a person needs to ask themselves whether something is appropriate, it probably isn’t. When posting online, people need to share information that portrays them in the best light possible.

Good Social Media Etiquette

When using social media websites, people need to keep their information as private as possible. These websites offer privacy settings that allow members to control what information they share. Almost every member would benefit from making their profile private to members that aren’t on their friends list.

People also need to be selective when choosing friends or “followers.” Don’t allow just anyone to view your profile. Make sure that your friends list is composed of people that you actually know in real life.

As long as a person guards their profile and private information, they are free to share almost any information they wish, assuming that it isn’t inappropriate or offensive. When used in a safe and positive way, social media websites are great way to share pictures, media, and converse with friends and loved ones.

Joined together ten years ago in marriage, Sophia & Joe Yancey, Jr are a dynamic duo using their music to touch lives and minister to others. Their first EP will be released Summer 2011. SoJo Ministries has several ministries under its umbrella which currently includes SoJo and Eternity Productions. SoJo consists of Sophia & Joe Yancey, Jr., the artist.

So, meet SoJo Ministries:

How long have you and your wife been performing together?

We started out 10 years ago when God joined us together. I was working on creating tracks to shop around to record labels for a production deal. My wife and I have always written music together and we started recording and working in the studio…the first song we did together was entitled “No Stopping”.God used that one song to touch peoples hearts and minds and it was amazing to see. We had our own record label with 7 artist signed and our own booking agency. We started focusing on other talents and strayed away from what GOD called us to do as husband and wife in his ministry. Time passed by and we both felt a void because we weren’t doing what GOD called us to do and got caught up in the everyday routine of life. About a year ago my wife and I agreed to take all the songs we wrote and just start recording a flat version to market to record labels for a song writers deal. I decided to allow a few people to hear the songs and they started asking if my wife and I could come and perform at their churches…My wife didn’t want to perform since she had a fear of singing in front of people because she never looked at herself as a singer with a blessed voice. One chruch led to another and then to people from all over the world going onto our web site with possible opportunities to perform overseas. So it’s been almost a year of us performing together as a husband and wife team faithfully.

We plan on joining and collaborating with online media, print media, television media, radio interviews, advertising, performances, and special appearances. We want to do all we can possibly do and allow GOD to do the rest. We trust and believe that he will send us to the correct people and companies.

This is a calling GOD has on our lives and we want to serve him in every way..touching and saving lives even if it is just one! When GOD has placed a talent in your heart, a gift in you, has called you to do his work…no matter what you may think you can’t do, what people say you can’t do, or if you try to run from it….He will have his way. Keep pressing towards what GOD has told you to do he will open the doors and make a way where there is no way. Have hope even if people put you down or it seems like it will never happen because he is the creator of hope….Have faith even when all around you is crumpling in because he is faithful and never lies…. Just as our song titles say…”Ain’t No stopping” because “Troubles Don’t Last” and “Rejoice” in the knowledge that He is GOD and leaves no work undone!

What would you like to say to your fans?

SoJo Ministries thanks you for not just being a fan but a partner with our ministry, allowing and helping us to reach out to many hurting, hopeless, and lost people. We pray that a word, verse, or song ministers to your heart and helps you with your calling and journey here in this life. We want to continue to spread God’s love and comforting lyrics to everybody no matter where they are in the world, in life, or their walk with GOD. Thank you and keeping listening for more to come!

Where can we learn more about SoJo Ministries, hear your music…hang out with you?

Kami and I have started, stopped, started, stopped, deleted, retyped over again the script and the character development of The Row. After months of auditions, late night and early morning meetings, loss of sleep, thousands of email and text exchanges, we decided to rent a hotel room to lock ourselves away and finish everything.

Time was ticking away and we had to tie up loose ends so we could establish a shoot start date. We worked from 8pm til 6 am, then took a nap. We woke back up at 8 am to finish the script…but it was gone. Every word. Every period. Every letter. Every sentence. Gone. No trace of it. No evidence that we even turned on the computer. It was the same night of the time change. Kami saved our work after typing a few sentences throughout the night just to be safe. I even asked her why she was saving so much. But still, there was nothing. We spent the next 2 hours trying to find the document. Nothing. We attempted a system restore but it didnt look like anything happend on that computer after 11 pm. I felt my eyes swell up with tears. I thought I might even throw up. All that work. The work we put off for months was gone.

There was no explanation. Even the computer guy couldn’t explain it. The only thing we could come up with, what we had, wasnt what we were supposed to have.

So, after yet anothyer series of late night and early meetings, I am excited to let you know that The ROW is coming and its going to be great!

So, my daughter participated in her first pageant this past weekend. This was something very new to both of us. She never expressed an interest in doing pageants until recently and we thought; ‘why not?’

This particular pageant was the preliminary to the Miss Teen Tennessee USA pageant but we had NO idea what we were getting into. My friend, who had one several pageants, coached her.

Arie and I figured this would be a good experience and just something different to do before going off to college. What we didnt realize was there is a very distinct difference between Miss America and Miss USA. Miss America is a scholarship pageant and Miss USA is..well..not. To paint the picture for you, one of the top 5 girls selected had to answer the on stage question; which came from my daughter. The question was: “What are your three weaknesses?” Her answer was: “Glitter and chapstick.”

So its been a while since we’ve produced UrbanFest. The last time was 2007. There are various reasons but one of them was due to the fairgrounds going through some changes. So, this year, UrbanFest is back and at a new venue.

This new and I like to think ‘improved’ festival will feature BBQ cook offs, talent showcases, video game competitions, a beauty pageant, kids corner, live performances and the much anticipated; Basketball tournaments. Thats the main question I keep getting; are you bringing back the basketball tournament? YES, its coming back. But with all of these ‘mini’ events inside one HUGE event, we need HELP! If you want to volunteer, let me know pleeeaaassseeee jacqueline@statusj.com
