Are you looking for some great fun for the kids and some relaxing time for you? If so, come on down to the Old Town Hot Springs in downtown Steamboat Springs Colorado. With the water temperatures in the 7 hot spring fed mineral pools ranging from 98-103 degrees and a 25-yard lap pool at 80 degrees you are sure to let those tired muscles relax. The kids will love the 2 brand-new 250 foot waterslides and the fun climbing wall. If you lose your grip you will just end up falling into the warm water. In the summer there is a kiddy pool that is perfect for the wee little ones.

There is childcare available if you decide that you need a little "you" time. You can spend that time soaking, working out in the fitness center, taking a class(Step, Strength & Stretch, Yoga, Water Aerobics, Total Fitness and Pilates, etc) or getting a massage. The fitness center is stocked with all the latest fitness machines and equipment. Work out on the eliptical machine as you look out the window at the kids playing in the pools or just take in the views.

Once you have worked out and/or soaked it is time to give a present to those muscles of yours and get a massage from one of the Old Town Hot Springs professional massage therapists. They offer anything from Deep Tissue massage to Reiki, from Sports Massage to Cranial Sacral. Your body deserves the gift.

Strawberry Park Hot Springs

It is essential that when you are in Steamboat Springs Colorado that you go visit and enjoy the breathtaking experience up at Strawberry Park Hot Springs. Just 7 miles North of downtown Steamboat Springs on a beautiful drive through meadows, babbling brooks and Aspen Groves you will come upon Strawberry Park Hot Springs. The best and easiest way to get there is with either Sweet Pea Tours or Hot Springs Adventures. You can drive yourself but be aware that chains and/or four wheel drive are required this time of the year. If you get stuck...you will be stuck with a hefty fee. It is much easier and very convenient to just take one of the shuttles suggested. Sweet Pea Tours and Hot Springs Adventures will pick you up at your property and take you to and from the Springs. They will leave you there for an hour and a half, which allows you plenty of time for some good soaking in one of their 3 springs plus Mad Creek that flows through with some mighty cold water. The hot springs temperature ranges from +/- 104 degrees.

You will be greeted by someone when you enter through the gates in a stationary 1936 International Harvester Pick-up truck. There are dressing rooms plus bathroom facilities and even a Tepee to get changed in. If you get the chance while you are there to enjoy a massage or Watsu (Water Shiatsu) it is worth it. The therapists are experienced professionals with wonderful and delightful attitudes. The huts where they offer massage are very serene and add to the whole experience. If you decide you want to try Watsu, you will find yourself in a peaceful state being floated through waters at body temperature in a private pool in heaven. Really, it's amazing. I would suggest trying the 1/2 and 1/2. That is an hour (or 1/2 hour) massage and a hour (or 1/2 hour) Watsu session. You will be amazed, relaxed and ready to go enjoy the rest of your day or evening in Steamboat Springs.

Make sure that on this little venture to Strawberry Park Hot Springs that you bring plenty of water, as the heat from the pools will dehydrate you quickly. Bring a towel and in the winter some sturdy shoes to get down to the springs and a hat to keep your head warm once you are out. If you decide you want to experience the springs at night you will want to add a flashlight to the things that you will need. If you are taking Sweet Pea Tours or Hot Springs Adventures they will supply you with a flashlight. And just be aware that there are no kids allowed after dark as the springs are clothing optional after dark. Steamboat Springs is not just a winter wonderland for adults. It's also a great place for the whole family! Kids of all ages can find plenty of memorable activities to keep them busy. Daytime at the Ski Area provides a fun mountain experience for children 6months to 6years old. With snow games and lunch provided its a great place let your little ones enjoy the snow while you are on the Ski Mountain. There is also the Kids Adventure Club at Night. This program is for kids 5-12 (young teens are also welcome). The 5-7 year olds can play games and watch movies while the 8-12 year olds go swimming. The kids will be occupied from 6pm to 10pm plenty of time for you to have that romantic night on the town. If a break from the ski mountain is necessary. Howelsen Hill alone provides a day of fun. You can go Ice Skating at the Howelsen Ice Arena or Snow Tubing on the Hill. You can let the kids make their own souvenirs with a stop by the Potter's Wheel. Here they get to choose their souvenir from a large selection of ready-made ceramics and pick out any of the 70 colors and designer tints available and let their inner artist come alive. A great vacation should bring a family closer together so bundle up your loved ones and take them on a breath taking Sleigh Ride. Enjoy being together in the beautiful snow covered surroundings.

“Legacy” Sculpture installed on Courthouse Lawn

This piece of art, drawn by Suzie Jackson and sculpted by Sandra Graves, both local artists, was installed on the 5th Street corner of the Routt County Courthouse lawn on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 to celebrate our centennial. It will be a gift to the Steamboat Springs community from the businesses that have and will continue to serve as the foundation of the economic well being of this community. Each of the figures in this artwork represents our past industries of mining, ranching, and skiing. Through the use of children, we want to speak to our future. And, through the interactive playfulness of the piece we want to engage our present. Stop to see it!

Steamboat’s weather has been ideal this summer, so why not enjoy it while having a delicious meal with family or friends?

These are the concierge recommendations for Best Summertime Outdoor Dining in Steamboat Springs:

Café Diva – Gourmet eclectic cuisine at café tables in the quiet, Torian Plum Plaza in the midst of shops and colorful flower gardens.
Slopeside Grill – Something for everyone (sandwiches, pizza, salads, ribs, etc.). At the base of the Ski Area, this casual spot is great for families and even your dog! Patio seating with views of Mt. Werner (you may see more excavators than flowers this summer due to re-grading projects by Ski Corp.).
Saketumi – Also at the base of the Ski Area (next to Slopeside Grill), they serve excellent sushi and Japanese cuisine on the patio.
Steamboat Yacht Club –One of the best places for outdoor dining (lunch or dinner) in Steamboat. The deck overlooks the Yampa River for observing Steamboat’s version of Yachts--kayakers and tubers! Cuisine: sandwiches, salads, soups, steak and seafood, including Wednesday night “Crab & Corona” night.
Cottonwood Grill – Also one of the best outdoor dining spots, have dinner on the deck along the Yampa River and enjoy classical music on Tuesday nights. Vibrant Pacific Rim cuisine fusing American and Asian flavors.
Staxx at Haymaker Golf Course – Steamboat’s best kept secret for a cool, relaxing mountain dining experience! This covered deck with fireplace overlooks the lush greens of the Haymaker Golf course. Chef Dominic Riggio serves up sandwiches, salads, steaks and seafood.
Fiesta Jalisco –This off-the-beaten path restaurant serves Authentic Mexican with secluded outdoor seating along Fish Creek. Open for lunch and dinner.
Creekside Café – Experience a European café atmosphere with patio seating on the picturesque Soda Creek. Creekside is famous for its eggs benedicts for breakfast, with tasty sandwiches and salads for lunch.
Rio Grande – Get a bird’s-eye view of downtown Steamboat from Rio Grande’s rooftop seating. Enjoy Mexican cuisine and legendary margaritas.
Cuginos – Shaded, outdoor tables along 8th St. look up towards Howelsen Hill. Cuginos is best known for its strombolis, calzones, pizza, and Southern Italian entrees.

Best Wildflower Viewing

With plentiful winter precipitation comes plentiful summer wildflowers! High country wildflowers are coming into their peak season, so don’t miss this opportunity for viewing some beautiful flora. Whether you are hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding, you will enjoy Rocky Mountain wildflowers such as Blue Columbine, Alpine Buttercups, Mountain Bluebells, Indian Paintbrush and more. Here are some concierge recommendations for viewing (for directions see our concierge):

Botanic Park – While this isn’t a back country hike, the flowers are certainly spectacular! This is your chance to view native flowers and plants, conveniently located right here in Steamboat. The Botanic Park is located on the Yampa Core Trail. Admission is free. On Thursdays, enjoy a free Strings in the Mountains concert at 12:15 p.m. Bring a blanket or chair, umbrella and lunch.

Rabbit Ears Pass - This is a mildly strenuous 6- mile round trip hike, good for families because of the open terrain and the great views of several mountain ranges. This is one of the very best trails for wildflower viewing.

Summit Lake & Lake Dinosaur, Buffalo Pass – Yampatika says: “During the season, this walk is a pure wildflower paradise, with open meadows, brimming with flowers in late July and early August.”

Flat Top Mountains are a scenic area for wildflowers. Two great spots for viewing are Stillwater Reservoir, the headwaters to our Yampa River and Trappeurs Lake, which has bountiful wildflowers due to a recent wildfire in the area. But don’t forget your DEET bug spray, there are lots of mosquitoes!

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council proudly presents Cabaret 2008 "Breakin' All the Rules & Still Alive at 25" May 15-17th at the Steamboat Mountain Theater. Held each Spring, this popular fundraiser and local comedy revue is generally about poking fun at ourselves through political humor. Thursday night's show features an opening night preview party with food, cocktails and local artists' work at ResortQuest's Torian Plum! Tickets are available, and can be purchased at the Depot Art Center in downtown Steamboat Springs. All proceeds benefit the Steamboat Springs Arts Council.

New Restaurants Opening in Steamboat

Steamboat visitors and locals will soon have several new restaurant options to try!

With the closing of Lucile's on the west-end of Steamboat, Rex Brice, the owner of Rex's American Grill & Mazzola's, has signed on to open a burger restaurant in this location. Not only will the restaurant serve burgers, but he also plans on serving sandwiches, soups, salads, even milkshakes. Rex has not decided on a name for the restaurant, but plans to be open in June for lunch and dinner. With the excellent reputation of his current Steamboat restaurants, this new burger joint will surely become a local favorite in no time. Read more about Rex's new restaurant here...

The Drunken Onion Get & Go Kitchen is scheduled to open in late May at the Wildhorse Marketplace, located near the Mountain Village. The emphasis of the Drunken Onion will be on dinners - entrees that can be pulled out of a refrigerator case, nightly specials & catered "to go" options. The lunch menu features a variety of baguette sandwiches and salads. The Drunken Onion will be an excellent choice for those who prefer to dine-in at their Steamboat vacation rental, without taking time away from hiking, mountain biking, skiing or your other favorite Steamboat activities. Steamboat will get a taste of Indian cuisine when the Bombay Grill opens next to Ben & Jerry's at the Wildhorse Marketplace. The menu will feature traditional Northern Indian cuisine, including a variety of curries and vegetable dishes, and a lunch buffet. The outdoor seating will be a great option for dining during the warm summer evenings! The anticipated opening for the Bombay Grill is June.
