Summer Concerts in Knoxville

Experience Van Halen in concert this summer.

Summer is a great time to get out of the house and attend some concerts. There are a multitude of events in Knoxville, TN for apartment residents to participate in. With venues such as the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum as well as the Thompson-Boling Arena, area residents can find something for every musical taste.The Civic Auditorium and Coliseum hosts nationally touring concerts as well as locally produced shows. On May 22nd at 7pm the Sesame Street Live! 1-2-3 Imagine with Elmo and Friends production will take the stage. This all-ages show brings children’s favorite Sesame Street characters to life through songs, dances, and learning experiences. On May 26th at 5pm the local Angela Floyd School for the Dance will perform their spring concert. Friends, family, and the public are encouraged to attend this production.

The Thompson-Boling Arena will host a performance by musical legends Van Halen on August 4th at 7:30pm. Tickets for this concert range from around $30 to $90 and can be purchased in advance using the online option.

Those living in the apartments near downtown Knoxville, TN often look for fresh produce to serve up to their families. Although this produce can be bought at most of the larger supermarkets, one must ask themselves, how fresh it really is?

You can find all sorts of great produce at the farmers market!

See the thing is, large supermarkets often import their produce from other sources and it really does not stay fresh in transport, which can take 3-7 days. This is why people living in the local vicinity choose to shop at the Market Square Farmers Market in Knoxville every Wednesday from 11a.m. to 2p.m. and Saturday from 9a.m. to 2p.m., May through November.

The Market Square Farmers Market is open all year round, however, the sale of produce only takes place in season. When the produce season arrives, local area farmers rent booths or outside stands to sell their wares. And might I add, they are fresh from the farm.

Residents of the apartments near downtown Knoxville, TN know that not only are they getting the freshest produce they can get, they are getting it at wholesale costs, without the grocery store markup.

Get Ready for Second Saturday Concerts at Concord Park in Knoxville

For those living in apartments in Knoxville TN weekend entertainment could be very useful. Fortunately, during the summer, the Knox County Parks and Recreation operates the 2^nd Saturday Nights concert series at Concord Park. The event is located at the Cove, which is accessible both by land and even by boat. Concerts take advantage of the summer evenings lasting from 6 p.m. in the early evening until 8 p.m. The series runs from June through September, with concerts occurring at least once a month if not more.

For 2012, the Parks and Recreation folks have already lined up Dishwater Blond for June 13, The Lonetones on July 11, the Retroholics for August 8, and an Indian summer celebration is planned for September 12 with the Knoxville Symphony Brass Quintet.

With the Cove concert stage situated at Concord Park, 11808 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, there are plenty of other features to keep the rest of the family busy as well. So come on down to the Cove and enjoy a little bit of music while getting introduced to your Knoxville neighbors!

By their seventh studio album, many bands are running out of creative steam and original ideas. But in the case of Death Cab for Cutie, nothing could be further from the truth. Codes and Keys is singular in the quartet’s catalog when it comes to sonic exploration and lyrical ambition. If anything, the band has never sounded more excited to experiment with textures, words, sounds and even the process of recording itself. Unlike the studio process for 2008′s Grammy-nominated Narrow Stairs – an album the band recorded to tape in real time, with minimal overdubs and studio trickery – Codes and Keys turned into what guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/producer Chris Walla has taken to calling a “construction project.” The band focused on capturing the best take of their parts – at times separately, at other times in pairs – and built songs by layering these performances (and other musical ideas) on top of each other. Staticky percussion chatters beneath several layers of bustling rhythms and echoing, spooky vocals. The lush instrumentation continues with the title track, on which strings from San Francisco’s Magik*Magik Orchestra sway in time with oompah drums and graceful vaudeville piano. As a special treat Death Cab for Cutie will be performing with Magik*Magik Orchestra at the Tennessee Theatre. Magik*Magik is a collective of players who perform live onstage and in the recording studio to produce unique artistic projects.

Now that we’ve given you the lowdown on the Biscuit Festival, we’d like to delve a little further into the kinds of things you can expect at this good old fashioned Southern biscuit extravaganza.

First, start your day off right with a Biscuit Breakfast buffet on Saturday, May 19 starting a 8am.

Next, what would a biscuit festival be without opportunities to taste and sample the region’s finest offerings? At Biscuit Boulevard on Saturday, May 19 from 9am to 3pm, you can do just that. For just $5, you can sample five different biscuit creations and vote for your favorite to help select the People’s Choice winner.
