Networking on Facebook is quite different than networking on LinkedIn, forums or other social media, and it is important that you follow some etiquette in order to be successful at it – otherwise you could end up driving away business and doing yourself more harm than good.

Some marketers suggest maintaining two separate profiles; one for personal and one for business, however, you will find that majority of marketers maintain only one profile, due to the fact that they simply do not have the time to maintain two!

Certainly one is sufficient for most folks, and there is nothing wrong with people getting an inside look at your life away from business. Potential customers and partners always like to know that you are a real person and this gives them more of an opportunity to not only build stronger relationships with you, but relate with you more on different levels.

The reality is, sometimes it just takes one common thing aside from business to get that connection built with you. ie: you may have children of the same age, have the same interests in music, share spiritual interests, travel to similar destinations etc. These simple factors can get the conversations started between each of you and at one point or another, business will be discussed.

Crush It!

And if you have taken the time and effort to maintain the relationship, you are more than likely to have a successful business relationship with that person. It could be the sale of a product, partnership or a joint venture, no matter what it is, just be certain to maintain the relationship on a positive level and you will reap continuous rewards for doing so.

Since we have discussed what to do, we should discuss things you should not do. Upon meeting a new friend, you should not tell them in an introduction message, or by posting on their wall, that you have a successful business doing “whatever”, as most marketers find this to be a turn off and will probably dismiss the notion of doing business with you at any time.

They may go as so far to block, remove and report you to Facebook for spamming – because technically it is spamming.

Unless you are a door to door sales person or work in a call center, you would never make an introduction like that in person, therefore that type of discourtesy extends to Facebook as well, people as a general rule do not like it.

One of the biggest intrusions on Facebook -aside from apps – is “tag spam”, and due to some of the tag spam containing viruses, marketers are quite leery of it – justified since it can harm one of their prized possessions – their computers.

Refrain from using tag spam as a means to promote your business. You will not only just annoy the heck out of people, you could be reported for spamming and reap the consequences – none good.

You can end up losing your Facebook account altogether.

Facebook is can be a fantastic tool that can truly benefit your business, so long as you use it with care.

Here, James Altucher relates this story of a cold call that paid off big time:

- Cold Call. Someone asked me yesterday if I had any connections at a major children’s company so she would be able to sell an excellent set of children’s travel books to them. I think it’s a great idea. Why? Because I see my kids buy every book from this children’s company. It’s a doll company but they put out books like, “How to be a child of divorce” as an example (which both my kids, being children of divorce, have read thoroughly). So why not travel books? And this woman has already made a dozen travel books for kids ages 8-12, the exact age group for this children’s doll company. I know this woman is a good writer because my kid even did a book report on one of her books and loved it. So I know kids would love her travel books.

She wanted a connection in because she was afraid to cold call. But almost all sales are done through cold calling. If there’s a need, people will love to meet you. Cold call right now!

When I was trying to get people to use Stockpickr.com, a site I built in 2006-2007, I cold-called AOL, Yahoo, Google, Reuters, Forbes. Guess what? Everyone responded because I knew it was something they all needed and I had at least 2-5 meetings with each group and did deals of some sort or other with all of them. If you have something that’s worthwhile then you can’t be afraid to cold-call. They need you more than you need them.

‘MILLION DOLLAR YEAR’ by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

Imagine going to the doctor for a routine office visit, only to be told you have one year left to live. For Peter Caswell, the main character at the center of the new book, Million Dollar Year, this nightmare has just become a reality.

So what does Peter do? He takes a cruise.
But this is not just any cruise; this is the MLM Cruise! A real event, created by industry legends Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter and Art & Ann Jonak, the MLM Cruise attracts some of the biggest players in the profession, but is open to anyone who wants to attend, build relationships and share success secrets with each other.

What bestselling authors Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz have done so brilliantly here is to capture the events, lessons and various ports-of-call in an enjoyable and fast-paced ‘fictional-fable’ that does more than entertain – it makes readers better.
Author Richard Fenton says:

The decision to write the book was based on our desire to share the amazing experiences we had, and the powerful lessons we learned, with those who have never gone, and – for whatever reason – may never go on the cruise. It’s the cruise on paper, as best as we could capture it.”
“But what is completely real,” adds Waltz, “is how profound an experience the MLM Cruise is, and how important and life-changing the lessons are for attendees.”

You might say that Fenton & Waltz took the conversations, people, places and lessons from the on-board training sessions… put them all in a blender… and pushed the button!
And the result is MLM training magic.

In addition to the motivational (and sometimes moving) storyline, Million Dollar Year helps readers learn:
• They must take responsibility for everything that happens in their business
• Goals are important, but behaviors are critical
• Great leadership is more than explaining your organization’s compensation plan
• The four “R’s” of success: Retailing, Recruiting, Repeating (and you’ll never guess the fourth!)
• How to reprogram the way you think about failure and rejection
• To avoid the regret of failing to take the necessary actions to secure your family’s future
• Why it’s critical to become ‘response-able’ under pressure
• That the highest-paid people in the industry are the best ‘story-tellers’
• Why everyone needs a ‘coach’ to get to the next level, regardless of how much you’re currently earning
• That success in Network Marketing isn’t about ‘testing the waters’ or simply ‘giving it a shot’… it’s about a deciding what you want, determining the price, and paying it!

But perhaps the most important lesson that readers will come away with after reading this book is how every choice we make in life, no matter how big or how small, is either ‘on the path’ to your goals and dreams… bringing you closer every day… or ‘off the path’, taking you further away.

There is no doubt that reading Million Dollar Year is one of those small decisions that will bring you closer to your next big success.

I highly recommend it.
In fact, the only thing more important that the autoresponder is your opt-in list!

But all autoresponders start out without a list – the list doesn’t exist until your autoresponder mailing list starts filling up with names and email addresses!

The easiest and fastest way to build up an email list is to give things away for free. Some marketers will tell you that this is a waste of time – and if you already have a list of one hundred thousand people that you can market to, then it probably is. But for those who do not already have a list, this is the way that it gets built! You simply pay for advertisements to promote your freebie. Don’t think of this as lost money, think of it as an investment in future earnings.

Give away an ezine, free reports, free ebooks, free access to private websites, or anything else that you can think of. The object is to get people to sign up to receive that freebie, and to agree to receive email from you in the future! It is a win-win situation for everyone, but you get more than anyone else in the deal. The person gets a freebie. You get their name and email address, and permission to email them in the future.

But if you do it right, you get even more than that.

The freebie that you give away should also be used to promote your products or services. Even if it just has affiliate links for products or services that are related to the topic of the freebie, it is a way to generate extra revenue. Then, when you send email in the future, you can again promote your products or services. Just be sure to include valuable information in the email as well, or you will have people dropping off of your autoresponder mailing list like flies!

Using every opportunity that is presented to you in the world of online marketing is vital to your success. You have the opportunity to earn money in the freebie that you create, you have the opportunity to earn money when you send the ‘thank you’ email after a person has requested your freebie, and you have the opportunity to earn money every time an autoresponder message is sent out to that list in the future! You will never miss those opportunities when you put it all in automatic mode with the use of an email autoresponder.

<fb:like href='http://stephaniscoe.com/blog/youll-get-higher-sales-conversions-with-this-secret-online-marketing-sequence' layout='default' show_faces='false' width='400' action='like' colorscheme='light' send='false' />

The online marketing sequence you use to promote your product or service on the internet can make a massive difference in how successful you are at making money online.

There are four basic sequence methods that most people use. And I’ll show you which ones are the most profitable and the most effective in building a sustainable business online.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see new internet marketers make when they first start marketing online is sending their visitors directly to a sales page. I know it seems like this is the most logical thing to do. But it’s not and here’s why.

We’ve all heard this before. You have less than three seconds to capture the attention of your visitor before he or she decides whether or not to stay on your site and find out more about what you have to offer or to click away and move on to the next website in search of something else that will keep their interest.

If you send visitors directly to a sales page, you are reducing your chances of converting them to a one-shot proposition.

The second and more common sequence is to send traffic to an optin or “squeeze” page which requires your visitor to enter their information, such as a name and email address, before sending them to the main sales page. This page is connected with an autoresponder which allows you to send follow up emails to the visitor long after they leave the initial web page.

This is obviously a much better strategy and significantly increases the number of opportunities you have to sell multiple products to your visitor in the future.

The third sequence that many online marketers use is to send website traffic to a “pre-sell” page which can significantly boost the number of conversions by highlighting specific benefits and offering what appears to be a more objective review of the product or service prior to sending the prospect to the main sales page.

This method also helps to reduce what I call the “bling factor” where prospects are often put off by the high-end graphics on many sales pages that look similar to so many other sales pages they’ve seen on other sites.

Some pre-sell pages offer a “review” where similar products are evaluated side by side with the product you are promoting on the main sales page. These types of review sites are extremely powerful in helping visitors to make a decision to buy your product or service even before seeing the actual sales page.

The fourth and final marketing sequence, and the one I recommend to get maximum results from your website traffic, is a combination of methods two and three. Using both a squeeze page and autoresponder in conjunction with a pre-sell page before sending your visitor to the main sales page increases your chance of making the initial sale while also being able to send follow up emails to promote both the offer you are making on the site as well as additional offers in the future.

<fb:like href='http://stephaniscoe.com/blog/how-to-avoid-social-media-bankruptcy' layout='default' show_faces='false' width='400' action='like' colorscheme='light' send='false' />

Let’s pretend you have a new business that you want to promote.
So you set out to publicize your new venture.

Would you start by drawing up a spreadsheet of every available newspaper, ad sheets phone directory, church bulletin and local and national glossy periodicals and magazines – then immediately sign up for ad placements in each and every one of them?

Unlikely.

What you’d probably do is go through a budgeting process to determine the marketing outlets which would give you the best return on investment (ROI) in your target market.

Imagine that your perfect prospect is high-income retired couple living in Sun City. You’d hardly expect to get their maximum interest with a full-page color spread in Rolling Stone.

Same principle applies to Social Networking.

Although joining hundreds of social networking sites can be done with virtually no cash outlay, your investment will still cost you dearly – and eventually lead to a sure social media bankruptcy.

Yes, we’re talking about your time.

And there’s no Interest-bearing account for Time. It’s like waterfront property – they aren’t making anymore.

As a result, you’ll need a social media action plan that provides a blueprint for investing your social networking time, much like you would plan your dollar spending on an advertising budget.

So restrain yourself from joining 127 various and sundry social networking sites. It will very quickly suck your social media budget dry.

Begin by picking just three – or maybe four at the outside – sites carefully selected based on your interests, goals and user communities.

You’ll quickly find that you’ll get higher return for your social media investment (time) if you focus on a few, highly targeted networks.

Trying to manage your presence on too many social outlets at once without the proper follow-through is a sure way to drive yourself nuts and alienate the very people you are trying to attract.

<fb:like href='http://stephaniscoe.com/blog/how-to-avoid-social-media-bankruptcy' layout='default' show_faces='false' width='400' action='like' colorscheme='light' send='false' />

<img src="http://stephaniscoe.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/pretty-link/images/yahoobuzz_32.png" alt="Yahoo!
