Dear Friends,

For the past 5 months, I’ve had the great honor of working with an incredible group of people and the beautiful community in Williamson, WV, the heart of coal country. Together, we launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the work they are doing to diversify their economy, create jobs, and build sustainability throughout the region of central Appalachia.

As I’ve watched the news, followed the elections, and seen the plans of our government, one thing has been prevalent all throughout: creating jobs, opportunity, and a plan for a brighter future.

But I know that government is not the solution to our problems in this country; they are not the answer to building our economy, creating jobs, or creating new opportunity for the people who live here.

A grassroots, bottom-up, free market, community collaboration is what we need to create a sustainable economy & provide opportunity for the people of America.

Sustainable Williamson is doing just that.

We grew up here, built our lives here, worked in the mines here, got married and had a family here. Coal country is where we live. This is Who We Are. Support us.

So I ask that you support them today. They have taken the road less traveled to raise funds through crowdfunding to see their projects through. Today, I visited the Boston Marathon Bombing Memorial for the three people we lost as a family, community & nation.

The street was as if still; quiet, with many people in tears as people come and go, capturing photos on their smart phones & standing in somberness as they stare at photographs of those lost, with flowers, teddy bears, and American flags holding the saying “Boston Strong”.

Next door, Starbucks was packed with cold news teams, memorial visitors, and every day Bostonians, all in an attitude of mourning, and in process of healing.

I was honored to join the many in paying their respects and love to those lost this past week.

ENERGY OPTIMIZATION | The final video in the series on the Six Components of Sustainability.

I had a lot of fun producing this video, and learned a lot: how to install a solar system, what post-mine land use sites can be used for and why they’re important to economic diversification, and others including topics like Biomass, reforestation of strip mines, and more.

It’s been a honor to work with Sustainable Williamson and help produce media that shows other what they are doing and how others can replicate it. I’ve been consistently surprised and inspired by their work, and I encourage you to support their endeavors to make sustainability and economic diversification in Coal Country a reality.
