Stereofame, the online social music game, has chosen singer songwriter Hana Pestle as their Artist of the Month.

Nineteen year old Hana Pestle relocated from Montana to Los Angeles two years ago to pursue her music career. With the help of writer and producer Michael "Fish" Herring (Prince, Christina Aguilera, Tupac), and Evanescence co-founder, Ben Moody (Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion), her self-titled EP was released in 2008.

Internet marketing has been an integral part of Hana's success: "Stereofame is my favorite site because it incorporates the listener more than any of the other sites out there. The hits on my website, my sales & my fan base have increased significantly since I joined Stereofame," says Pestle.

She plans on using her contest earnings to manufacture more merchandise to sell on her upcoming tour.

Stereofame, the pioneering online social music game, has chosen Boston-based band Vivian Darkbloom as their Artist of the Month

Borrowing their name as a homage to Vladamir Nabokov while giving a nod to his book, Lolita, the band lives up to Nabokov's idea of having an alter ego with their uninhibited rocked-out stage performances yet somewhat shy & intellectual personas offstage.

Vivian Darkbloom is comprised of graduate students Rob Morris (MIT) on vocals, Cristiano Castellitto (Berkeley) on drums, and Brian Skerratt (Harvard) on bass and vocals.

Morris's studies at MIT in media arts and sciences have influenced the band’s live show with his innovating usage of a Wii remote attached to his black Fender guitar. Through a fairly simple hack, he is able to turn the way the guitar is tilted into sound modifications on stage.

The band discovered Stereofame on Twitter: "I saw a positive shout-out for Stereofame and decided to try them," said Morris. "We're thrilled we were chosen and we plan to invest our $1,000.00 prize money into our summer tour." Their current EP, "Let's Become Machines" is available for download on the recently launched Stereofame music store.

April Artist of the Month - New Jersey singer/songwriter Justina Carubia

25 year old Justina Carubia is the latest artist to be recognized in Stereofame.com's popular Artist of the Month contest.

Justina has been playing guitar and writing her own songs since she was 18. When browsing through Gogirls.com she came upon a positive review for Stereofame and decided to setup a profile for herself. "I was only on there about a month when I submitted myself for the contest - I wasn't expecting to win anything so fast! I can’t believe how many friend requests I get on my other sites from people that are saying they first saw me on Stereofame."

Justina recently relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her music career. She plans on using her $1,000.00 prize to record more songs for a full length cd. Songs from her current EP, "Break of Day", can be downloaded at http://www.stereofame.com/justinamusic. The historic April 4th date commemorates the 41st anniversary of the slaying of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Better Days Are Ahead," features the history, legacy, heritage and tradition of the Black struggle.

The rap video provides a historical timeline of our past, present and future, while also delivering a powerful message of faith and positive expectation. Stereofame now offers premium memberships with extra benefits. One of the benefits is "Auto Bid". Premium members can enter the maximum amount of points they're willing to spend for an item at the Point Store and the auto bid system bids for them. If someone outbids their max bid figure, the also have the option to be notified via text messaging.

What happened to my Label Ranks today?
As a result of removing the "Use it or Lose it" rule from the Game, Label ranks were restored to their original positions at the beginning of the season before "Use it or Lose it" played a role in repositioning.

The good news is that (1) No points were removed during the restoration process, (2) Labels now receive more points because no matter what our Label Rank may be, you will never receive less than 50% of the top ranked Label and (3) Labels that are active get up to 3,000 points a month more than Labels that are inactive by being awarded 100 points for the first vote each day.

I am a VIP Member Artist. How do I create an album for sale?
1. Go to your profile page.
2. Click PLAYLISTS from your profile subnav
3. On the upper right side of the playlist page, click the pink link that reads "My Music"
4. Click "Add" next to each track you want in your album.
5. Once you add 10+ songs, an option will appear that reads "Sell this playlist as an album". Click that.
6. Title your playlist.
7. Press Save.

Stereofame 2009 Q1 Release Notes

With this release of Stereofame.com to become known as Stereofame 1.0, progressive changes have been to better our services for Artists and Labels.

These Release Notes cover what's new, game rules, known issues and frequently asked questions about Stereofame.

What's New in the Stereofame 1.0 update.

Release date: March 20, 2009

Music Store: Buy all your music from Stereofame - both you and the Artist score 500 points each time, no maximum! And if you're looking for some free tracks to download, you can do that here too and earn 10 points for both you and the Artist.

Seasons: Artists and Labels earn their points during each Stereofame Season (Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall). Points may only be used to bid on prizes available for the season in which points are earned. Artists and Labels must use all of their points by the end of each Stereofame Season. As soon as the new season begins (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter), all Artist and Labels points are reset to ZERO. See GAME RULES for the season schedule.

Listener Accounts: All Listener accounts from Stereofame Beta have been migrated to Label accounts. User login and account information has not changed.

Use it or Lose it Rule: We want to reward those who actively support our Artists and Stereofame. But we also want to establish a level playing field for those who are new to the site and those who will be coming to the site in the future. So, we've incorporated two new "use it or lose it" rules for Labels. Labels must vote a thumbs up or thumbs down at least once a day. See GAME RULES for details and information about "vacation days".

SF Rank Update: An SF Rank update was released as part of Stereofame 1.0 and Stereofame members may see fluctuating SF Ranks. SF Rank is considered a benchmark of high quality music and all members seek to have a low SF Rank. SF Rank updates happen periodically to improve the ranking quality in an effort to create a useful resource for users searching for talented, independent and unsigned artists from around the world. This update incorporated new variables to consider in the ranking formula. See GAME RULES for complete details.

Stereofame Sweepstakes: Two separate Stereofame Sweepstakes - one for Artists and one for Labels have been incorporated in the game. The drawings for both the Artist Sweepstakes and the Label Sweepstakes occur at the end of each season. Each point held by an Artist may be traded in for a single Artist Sweepstakes Ticket in the Auction House. Each point held by a Label may be traded in for a single Label Sweepstakes Ticket in the Auction House. An Artist or a Label may elect to use all points earned during the season to trade for tickets in the Artist Sweepstakes or Label Sweepstakes, respectively. Prizes are awarded on a random basis, but the more Tickets you have, the more chances you have to win.

Points: Point values for some gaming actions have changed. Noteworthy changes include: Refer a Friend = 1,000 points, Arist of the Month Contest Song Review = 50 points, Sign an Artist = 500 points, A Label's Signed Artist sells an album to anyone = 2,000 points, Label's Headliner Is Selected As The Winner of the Artist of the Month Contest = 10,000 points. Stereofame is an online game of "Virtual Record Labels." The object of the game is to accumulate points to cash in on Point Store rewards and achieve top rank status in the Stereofame charts.
Getting Started

Stereofame allows you to post a free Web page called a "Profile," which includes music files, photos, videos, etc.

After you set it up, you can invite anyone who has access to the Web to visit your page to play your music and cast a vote for each of your songs. You will earn points for each thumbs-up vote you receive.

Set Yourself Up

UPLOAD MUSIC
Once you complete the registration process, your profile page will be created with various content areas that you can easily populate. The first content area presented is the Music Upload area. Follow the instructions to upload 5 songs. The system currently only accepts MP3 files. Once your MP3 has been uploaded to the server, you will be able to enter your song details, including track title, lyrics, download status, etc.

ADD PHOTOS
Just below the music upload area is the photo upload component. Stereofame allows you to have one main photo on your profile's main page, and an unlimited number of photos in the Photo component area. Click "Browse" to locate the photo on your computer that you would like to publish on your page. Double click the file and the photo will automatically upload to your page. Wait briefly while the data refreshes in the area, then a thumbnail of the photo you uploaded will appear. Click the thumbnail to add a caption and crop the image, then press save. You can select which photo you want to be your main profile picture by clicking the "Make primary" link under the corresponding photo. If you do not select a photo to be "primary" your profile picture will be randomly selected from your gallery and change with each page load.

Complete & Customize Your Profile
After you have successfully uploaded your music and photos, click the "Home" link located just below your Artist Name. Here you will see an "Actions" area that allows you to manage the components that are visible to users on the site. Click a component like "Embed Video" and you will see the video component added to the bottom of the page where you can add content to it. To remove a content area from your page, simply click the "X" link on the upper right corner of the component.

BILLBOARD
The Billboard component on your profile page is meant to be a freeform area for artists. You can use it to post your band bio, tour dates and news. The area is customizable so if you are HTML savvy, you can add basic styles to customize it and add images from the web.

While Stereofame allows you to have an unlimited number of photos in the Photo component, some members choose to add photos or web banners to their billboard area as well for increased visibility. If you want to embed additional photos onto your billboard area, you can use a free hosting service like Photobucket.com, which provides you with HTML tags to paste into your profile's code. Keep image file sizes small — no more than about 350 to 400 pixels wide for photos appearing in your Billboard area. Oversized images can make the page take longer to load and may get cut off if they are bigger than the content area.

VIDEO
You know what they say... "people sometimes hear better with their eyes". Showcasing your videos on your profile is a great way to build an audiovisual connection with your audience. Click on the "Embed Video" link in the Actions area and the video component will load on the page with a form to submit your YouTube video link. Currently members can display one video on their profile page, but feel free to change it as often as you like. If you don't have a professionally shot video, consider uploading clips from your live shows or your studio sessions to YouTube, then embed the URL into your Stereofame video component.

SONG HISTORY
The song history component will display to the public all of the music you are listening to on Stereofame. Displaying this component is optional, but recommended as it is a great networking tool.

TAGS
Tags are keywords or phrases that help identify music, bands and labels by genre or subject (80s, hip hop, Sunday drive, etc.), but the possibilities are endless. In this area insert tags that describe your music.

Get Signed
Once your profile is complete, it's time to put yourself out there and get signed. The best way to jump-start your presence and rack up points is to get your current fans involved. Let them know that they can support your band and earn points for free stuff when they sign you to their virtual record label on Stereofame. It's totally free for them and they can literally earn enough points in 1 day to bid on free prizes in the Point Store.

Start by clicking the "Forward to a Friend" link in your Actions area. Use the form to tell your friends about your new profile on Stereofame. The message will automatically include all of the benefits of Stereofame, so it's quick and easy for you.

You can also advertise your profile outside of Stereofame. Put your profile address in your email communications and email signatures, and on your main website, gig flyers, business cards, CDs, T-shirts, and anyplace else you would advertise your traditional website address. Stereofame offers code for a customized player widget and promo banners that you can copy and paste onto your website, blog and MySpace page. Click the "Spread the Word" link to see all of the options.
Each fan you refer to Stereofame earns you 100 points. And... every time you successfully refer 10 new members to Stereofame, you'll get a 1,000 POINT BONUS.

Promoting Yourself
Now that you have support from your current fans and friends, it's time to maximize your presence and get signed. There are many Stereofame Labels on the site ready to listen to your material and consider you for their Label. Visit the Browse page on the site and click the Label tab to sort through all the Labels. Take some time to discover Labels that are into your type of music by looking at the artists they already have signed and the type of music they have shown in their Listener history. If it looks like a good match, then click the "Submit Music for Label Review" link in the Label's Action area. When submitting your music, be sure to send a personal message describing your work and give reasons why the Label should sign you.

Comments
After submitting your music to a Label for consideration, follow up with a comment on their page thanking them for the opportunity, reiterate why you are interested in having them represent you and invite them to check out your page. By placing a comment on other profiles, you are subtly inviting anyone that sees it to visit your profile as well. Doing so is a great way to expand your visibility.

Make new friends
Visit profiles of other artists in your genre. Listen to their music, cast votes and leave feedback in their comments area. If you like what you hear, add them as a friend. While you are there, see which Labels have signed them. Then send those people Label Consideration Requests or emails to introduce yourself and invite them to hear your music. A sincere, friendly email can make all the difference in how the recipient responds. Write something like, "Hi, I saw your label page and the artists on your roster are incredible picks. I'd like to invite you to take a look at our profile as our sound and vibe is similar to a lot of the artists on your label. I sincerely look forward to your reply and comments on the tunes."

The Key to Greatness
Maintaining your buzz on Stereofame requires consistent effort. Labels are in search of artists that regularly log into the site and participate in the game. The benefits are two-fold for you; as you play the game networking with labels and discovering new music, you earn points and the more you network the more footprints you leave for Labels to follow and sign. You are also getting exposed to new and active fans of music from around the world that may have never discovered you by any other means.

This "Monster Box" design was hand drawn by Matthew Fleming of BlackT-Shirt.com.

The Concert T artwork will be printed on an Alternative Apparel Burnout crew T Shirt. Burnout fabric has been put through an extensive process to reveal years of weathering.
