James Gadson, a session drummer whose work appeared on untold numbers of records over the decades, has passed away. Fellow musicians have been sharing tributes to Gadson for the past day, and now Gadson’s wife, Barbara, has confirmed the news to Rolling Stone, citing recent health challenges including surgery and a bad fall that hurt his back. "He was a wonderful man,” Barbara told RS. “He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and one hell of a drummer." Gadson was 86.

The Story Behind Every Song On Robber Robber’s New Album Two Wheels Move The Soul

Robber Robber made their new album Two Wheels Move The Soul under some particularly stressful circumstances. One afternoon in 2024, vocalist Nina Cates discovered a fire had broken out in the apartment building where she and drummer/guitarist Zack James lived together in downtown Burlington, Vermont. Miraculously, Cates and James’ unit was left mostly unscathed; the pair continued living there as the rest of the building was gutted, enduring the constant rotation of construction workers, occasional trash left in common spaces, and a barrage of 7 a.m. demolition noises. “We were living in this place that we loved, but everything felt really unstable,” Cates recalls. Eventually, their landlord informed them it’d be in everybody’s best interest for them, the only residents left in this shell of a building, to move out.

A few years later, she released Queens Of The Summer Hotel, an album of the songs she'd made for the musical. Last fall, we found out the musical was still happening, helmed by playwright Martyna Majok and director Jo Bonney and slated for May at New York's Public Theater. Wednesday Cover MJ Lenderman For April Fool’s Day In Boston

As far as we know, MJ Lenderman is still technically a member of Wednesday, though he stepped back from touring with them in early 2025. I'm sure a lot of factors went into that decision, but two main reasons come to mind: The runaway success of Lenderman's 2024 solo album Manning Fireworks, and the fact that his long-term relationship with Wednesday bandleader Karly Hartzman had ended. With new live guitarist Jake "Spyder" Pugh in the crew, Wednesday's tour schedule is still absolutely popping off — including a night at Madison Square Garden opening for Bleachers this September. And last night at the Roadrunner in Boston, they managed to pull off what I think is a really good April Fool's joke by opening with a snippet of Manning Fireworks' title track.
