Nedra Talley, Last Surviving Member Of The Ronettes, Dead At 80

Nedra Talley, a member of the classic early-'60s girl group the Ronettes, has passed away. In a Facebook post on Sunday, Talley's daughter said that she died at home in bed earlier that morning. The Ronettes' Instagram also shared the news. Talley, who changed her name to Nedra Tally-Ross after marrying her late husband Scott Ross in 1967, was the last surviving member of the original Ronettes. (Estelle Bennett died in 2009, while group leader Ronnie Spector passed in 2022.) No cause of death has been reported. Talley was 80.

During the ceremony, a California resident named Cole Tomas Allen reportedly sprinted past a security checkpoint on a different floor of the hotel. Before he was arrested, Allen fired one shot that reportedly hit a Secret Service agent's bulletproof vest. Otherwise, nobody was harmed. Trump and his administration officials were taken out of the dinner, which eventually resumed. Trump seemingly faced no immediate danger. Bruce Springsteen, for one, is thankful that Trump wasn't shot.

Up until this week, Christopher Nolan's 2023 film Oppenheimer had the most lucrative opening weekend of any biopic in history. There's plenty to debate about the way Oppenheimer told the story of its subject, and the film's decision to omit any depiction of the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki remains controversial. But Oppenheimer represents an honest attempt to reckon with the legacy of a subject who caused a great deal of suffering in the world. It earned great reviews, won the Oscar for Best Picture, and became a cultural phenomenon, especially coming out on the same weekend as Barbie. This past weekend, the Oppenheimer record was shattered by the Michael Jackson movie Michael, a biopic that pointedly refuses to reckon with anything negative that Jackson might've ever done in his life.
