The band name, Diles Que No Me Maten, translates to "Tell them not to kill me." That alone should perk up your ears before you even hear a note. When you press play on Escrito En Agua, the Mexico City band's new album released this month, you may then be further intrigued by the funereal New Orleans jazz dirge that greets you. And when that song, "Las noches que dormimos en sillas," leads you to "Hiriku," you may wonder how you ended up traversing space and time to a Can show in Cologne in 1971. Any lingering confusion will soon give way to excitement about this wholly unique ensemble.

The reliably energized Toronto pop-punkers PUP have a long history of sick-ass videos, and they add to it today. It's been about a year since PUP released their album Who Will Look After The Dogs?, and it apparently took all that time for regular collaborator Sterling Larose to put together the video for their album track "Concrete." That video is here today, along with a new PUP song.

It's been 21 years since Miranda Lambert released Kerosene, which means she's been one of our greatest mainstream country stars for a very, very long time. She's not slowing down. This year, Lambert co-wrote and sang backup on Ella Langley's gigantic crossover hit "Choosin' Texas," and she buried the hatchet with her old adversary Kacey Musgraves in grand fashion on the duet "Horses And Divorces." Now, she's ready to release of an album of her own.

Almost a year ago, Dovetail released a very beautiful track called "raining here, too." In the fall, I caught them at New York's beloved Night Club 101 opening for Ken Park; the two Vassar students wore angel wings on their backs and played dreamy songs that swallowed the whole room. Now, the duo is sharing a new tune titled "if you let me (nsii)."

Billy Strings is a virtuoso bluegrass musician and a giant star in the jammy Americana world. He's also a big fucking metalhead. Last year, Strings shredded a solo on a medley of re-recorded 1994 songs from tech-death legends Cryptopsy. Now, Strings is preparing for his own Ionia Freak Fair festival in his hometown of Ionia, Michigan, and he's booked himself an entire metal stage.

The shoegazey San Francisco rock band Badvril came on my radar through Bandsplain host Yasi Salek, who included one of their dreamy, poppy, hard-slapping songs a playlist a couple years back. We posted their debut album In Heaven last year, describing it as "entrancing," and today they announced the follow-up. Lethal is dropping in October, and in addition to the recent Badvril tracks "Push It Down" and "Golden," it has today's new single "Fever."

Tom Hardy is one of our best, weirdest movie stars — the type of guy who manages to convey sweaty insanity even in an otherwise pedestrian IP blockbuster like Venom. Hardy is also a rap head to makes music in his spare time. Way back in 1999, he made a mixtape under the name Tommy No. 1, which should honestly be my rap name; it leaked a few years ago. More recently, Hardy struck up a relationship with the underground rap supergroup Czarface, and now they've made an entire collaborative album together.

Last month, LA-based queer/trans electropop-bass duo Alli Logout and Margo XS, who release incredibly magnetic music as deBasement, dropped their knockout single "STAY IN YOUR LINE." I'm happy to announce that that single is part of a new EP HARDBODY that's coming July 17 via In Real Life Records. They've announced the upcoming project with the new single "CUT THE LINE," which is a detailed account of all the dumb bullshit and annoying people one can encounter on a late night out. Not to mince words, but it's brilliant.

Cara Delevingne is famous for being a supermodel and an actress, but she's also apparently buds with the relatively reclusive Fiona Apple. When Apple recorded her 2020 masterpiece Fetch The Bolt Cutters, Delevingne added some backup vocals, including a meow. Now, Delevingne is getting ready to release an album of her own, and she got some help from Apple. Last month, we learned that Apple co-wrote a song on Delevingne's upcoming debut LP, which doesn't have a title or a release date yet. Today, we get to hear that song.

It’s a hairsprayed new wave track that reflects on giving up glam and rock ’n’ roll for small-town freedom.

It won't be his last. Future has been making an impact on popular music for a very, very long time. His first #1 hit was also his 125th chart hit on the Hot 100. He's a defining generational star. A couple of years ago, he helped ignite the Drake/Kendrick Lamar beef when Kendrick launched his opening volley on the Future/Metro Boomin collab "Like That." A few months ago, old collaborators Future and Drake reunited on Drake's #2 hit "Ran To Atlanta." Future simply continues to float above the fray, and now he's got a new album on the way.

For about 20 years, the long-running music-scrobbling website Last.fm was owned by CBS and its assorted corporate overlords. Last month, as Endgadget reported, Last.fm became an independent company, breaking away from the larger Paramount Skydance umbrella. The people who ran Last.fm promised that the website would continue to work the way that it always did. You'd be able to keep track of your listening history across different platforms and share it with the world. There's been one significant change, though: No more bots. At least among one fan community, that's a controversial decision.

Few albums this year have made a stronger impression on me than Elevator Songs, a collaboration between the composer and singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane and the vocal group Roomful Of Teeth. It's a wildly ambitious musical effort based on an equally ambitious concept: a song cycle about a "kind of creepy" interdimensional hotel where "the ice machine is speaking in tongues" and "aggressively cheerful cooking shows haunt the TV."

Grimes has lately been planting seeds for Psy Opera a new album that supposedly will not feature any generative AI.

He's gone country! Killers frontman Brandon Flowers revealed this week that he went to Nashville and tapped into the country music tradition for his new solo album Thrasher. To my colleague Tom Breihan, the music in the album trailer sounded like a Killers song with more pedal steel, but I was pretty taken aback by how much it resembled a country ballad from the old-time Nashville studio system. Now there's a single that continues to up the twang quotient.

Here we go, axemen, here we go! Before Sleater-Kinney existed, elemental American indie rock howler Corin Tucker was one half of Heavens To Betsy, a duo that didn't last long but left a deep impression. Tucker and her childhood friend Tracy Sawyer started Heavens To Betsy when Tucker was a student at Evergreen in Olympia, Washington, and they played their first show at K Records' International Pop Underground festival in 1991. They went on to do some DIY touring and to release a few 7" singles, as well as one album, the sick-ass 1994 feminist punk classic Calculated. In 1994, Heavens To Betsy broke up, and Tucker started Sleater-Kinney with her Excuse 17 tourmate Carrie Brownstein. The rest is history.

You might know Micky Dolenz as the sole surviving member of the Monkees, the ultra-popular psychedelic pop act that was assembled to star in a '60s sitcom. The Monkees' entire run was fascinating — the most monoculture shit in the world, created to riff on the counterculture, which then became part of the counterculture when the band members wrestled control away from the TV producer who put them together in the first place. But Dolenz is more than just a Monkee. He is also, apparently, enough of a Paul Westerberg head to cover a song that even most Westerberg heads might not recognize.

The Rolling Stones have been around forever. Key members have died young (Brian Jones) and in their old age (Charlie Watts), yet Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood seem indestructible. Jagger, in particular, is an especially spry and healthy octogenarian; he turns 83 next month, and you wouldn't know it by the way he moves. So I guess it makes sense that as part of the rollout for his band's new album, he talked to GQ's wellness vertical. It's a bit surprising, though, that Geese came up.

LA singer-songwriter Ryan Beatty makes smooth, heavily orchestrated tracks that recall the most regal '70s pop, as well as the whispery bedroom-pop of today. Beatty came up alongside Brockhampton, and he has tons of collaborations on his belt. Today, he releases his new solo album Sweet Fortune, and he got some help from people who are more or less from the indie world. That includes Beatty's buddy Clairo, who sings on multiple songs and who says that she had to "belt on a song for the first time."

As you are probably aware, Justin Bieber headlined Coachella in April. It was a big deal. It had been years since Bieber mounted a large-scale live performance, and his two Coachella sets came in the wake of Swag and Swag II, his relatively loose and experimental 2025 comeback albums. Bieber's performances famously included extended stretches where he sang along to YouTube videos of his old hits. They caused big spikes in streams and ticket prices. Now, Bieber has immortalized his Coachella experience as a surprise live album.

Remember the era when Phoebe Bridgers was on this website seemingly every day? It's back! Bridgers has been slowly, dramatically building up to the announcement of Lost Weekend, her first new solo album since 2020's Punisher. After a stealthy series of phone-free pop-up shows culminating in a big gig at Madison Square Garden, the boygenius member announced a transcontinental arena tour three weeks back. Wednesday, she revealed the title and Aug. 14 release date for her long-awaited LP. Now we finally get to hear some music from this thing.

In a recent social post, she confessed that "each time I get to do this the music ends up closer to what I intended. I feel so proud of the record and excited to show you." She's referring to her new album Violins, which she teased last month with "Heart Has To Work So Hard," and now has an official release date on September 25 via Partisan Records. It was produced by Yves Rothman, mixed by Beatriz Artola, and mastered by Emily Lazar.
