Then a friend ends up actually working in a mine. Well sorta anyway.

J the cute petite miner gal ;)

Another friend had passed over a book on <s>management</s> leadership by John C Maxwell. She didn't like it. And neither did I. The writer seems... can I say it? Conceited? Irreputable laws? hmm... Ok. Well a lot of other people seemed to not like Maxwell as well so let's try something else.

I came, I saw, I peed...

I picked up next, The Rules of Work which was lying about. Better than Maxwell & with points that one could relate with. Still what turned me (my brain rather) off was the way getting ahead in the workplace was portrayed as how one manipulated one's world & surroundings. How one puts up fronts & tactics to use to get ahead.

Is it the state of world today that shapes the book? Or is everyone quite fucked up in a way? Or is it both?

Quite mine-boggling (PUN!)

A younger less jaded me most likely would have gone through the book & nodding my head profoundly at the wisdom gained. But if there's one lesson in life that I learnt the hard way - it's that integrity & life satisfaction comes first

Moranbah! [BlogTalkers]
"Praise in public, criticize in private"
"Be efficient in management & tasks; But spend more time on relationships"
"If you aren't moving forward, you are falling behind"

More candy (Really! Despite my perceptions that after one is done with education, degrees, etc etc - learning would come to a standstill. Well... it has largely from the academia memorizing <s>rather crappy</s> education system in Malaysia*.

Yet I find myself continuously in the process of learning now. Be it tools & technology (I am in the IT industry after all...)... To picking up new skills... To lessons learnt in life.

Simply to self-reflect a little, a few small yet important things learnt of late would be that in all human relationships, dealing with each person differently is the key to being fair to all. And that while delegation, technology & planning all have to do with saving time - relationships is about spending as much time as required & more.

Guilt
Q: What do you feel most guilty about?
A: I will list 3:-
1) For every single time I went against gut feeling & things went wrong as a result
2) For coffee ;-)
3) For respecting those "older" than me too much

I think #3 needs some explanation. Somehow (possibly due to upbringing?), I tend too treat those "older" folks with too much respect. And usually that is all fine & dandy. But it becomes a problem when it causes issues with professional relationships when too much "respect" causes a waste of time & affects the quality of the relationship as you give too much "face" and lose out in effectiveness/truth.

Or maybe it's just me.

Stev out.

§

*Note: Credit must be given tho for the Malaysian Govt trying to implement & develop critical thinking & a less exam based education system (despite the rather not too encouraging results...)

Walking Barefoot

There's something to be said about walking barefoot on the beach. (just imagine their love)

Before she passed away she always told her frens "If I pass away please burn me with my handphone" she also said the same thing to her parents. after her death, ppl cant carry her coffin. i was there. a lot of them tried to do so but still cant. everybody including me, had tried to carry the coffin, the result is still the same.

Eventually, they called their neighbour, a "bomoh" from thailand (pak Darin), who is a fren of her father. he took a sit and started speaking to himself slowly. after a few minutes, he said "this gurl misses something here". then her frens told Darin bout her intentions to burn her with her phone. He then opened the coffin and place her phone and SIM card inside the casket. after that they tried to carry the coffin. it could be moved and they carried it into the van easily. all of us were shocked. (can u feel the fear. i'm shaking at this moment)

Priya's parents didnt inform Shankar that Priya had passed away. (pity Shankar). After 2 weeks Shankar called Priya's mom. Shankar :...."Atte (aunty), I'm coming home
2day. cook something nice for me. dont tell Priya that i'm coming home 2day. i wanna suprise her."

Her mother replied....."u come home first, i wanna tell u something very important."

After he came to shah alam, they told him the truth about Priya. Shankar thinks that they were playing a fool. he was laughing and said "dont try to fool me. tell Priya to come out. i have a gift for her. pls stop this nonsense".

Then they show him the original death certificate to him. they gave him proof to make him believe.(Shankar started to sweat)

He said... "its not true. we were just talking yesterday. she still calls me.

Shankar was shaking. suddenly, shnakar's phone rang.

"See this is from Priya. see this..."

He showed the phone to priya's family.

All of them told him to answer. he talked using the loudspeaker mode. all of them heard his conversation loud and clear. no cross lines, no humming. it is the actual voice of Priya & there is no way others could use her simcard since it is nailed inside the coffin

They were so shocked and asked for pak darin's help again. pak darin brought his master (Tok Chen) to solve this matter. he & Darin worked for 5 hours.

Tok Chen was sweating. his face was red. "i just cant believe this. it's quite amazing" he said. " i didn't think that this could actually happen. unbelievable... as they discovered one thing...

"Oh My God! Maxis is the best line, ever! We can still keep in touch even when we're dead!! Talk about coverage!! Best coverage ever!! Where can i get the SIMpack?"

Moral of the story: Maxis propaganda

=_+" - /SWT!

§

- Note: Maxis is a major telco in Malaysia
- Content Theft: I stole the above spam from MW. Wait. Fourth. No... five hundred gazillionth time I'm doing this similar meme. Gosh. I still recall when it was just 3 weird things. Now it's... 6?! Anyways. To celebrate my blog being unlocked by blogger (who locked my blog in the first place), we will have a short meme reply coz I am so inclined. Ahem. Oh and thanks Bodicea.

Need I say More?

1. Once upon a time, I used to read ~15 books a week. Now it's ~1 book each quarter (if I'm lucky).

2. Once upon a time, I dreamt of being an engineer/architect/lawyer. Now I'm none of those & much happier (I think... or lie to myself quite successfully).

3. Once upon a time, I drank 6 cups of coffee daily. Now my intake is reduced to just 1 (big) cuppa.

4. Once upon a time, my character/thoughts/actions would swing wildly in any direction or just for fun. Now it only happens online.

5. Once upon a time, I was challenged to a competition whereby the rules were that the first person to call another a liar would lose. The first person told a tall story on how his grandfather was the greatest pirate in the seas who plundered the world and back again (We hardly batted an eyelid). The second person told a fanciful story on how he had superpowers like flying & superhuman strength (We kicked him over the balcony). And it soon came to my turn to tell my story. So I did - a very simple story. All of you are my slaves for life & must do my every bidding. Guess who won the bet. ;)

6. Once upon a time, I found memes fun. Besides that's not the point for *this* blog anyway ;)

Still on the other hand, blogvertising is still proliferating. And of course with time, comes change (and we mean change in the sort of winds of change NOT chump change change).

PPP now has Alexa Ranking & Technorati Ranking (?) in addition to its originally used Google PageRank.

Requirements for adverts are set by advertisters & PPP still remains one of the easiest to startout with. (Although their Help & FAQ could do with some updating). PPP has its rivals as well including ReviewMe right at its shadow (yes they are competing for ad-market position & competition is good... for us bloggers).

Like it or not, the trend of the blog ad network is definitely here to stay. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Sleep soon becomes a precious commodity coveted like no other.

When we exhaust ourselves to the limit, we find that we take that extra few seconds more to recover this time. Hairs continue to gray yet concealed by applying fresh colors every couple of months. On cold days, bones & wounds never fully 100% recovered start to ache.

We look at ourselves in the mirror and realize we seem somewhat... (in kind words)... wiser. The 52 man-made weeks every year continue to pass us by... and we wonder where the years have went.

Immortality which we thought we had has slowly slipped away without us noticing sometime when we were busy chasing our youthful dreams. Immortal Forever... No More...

§

- Musings: In a pensive mood this week
- Apologies: Work has been crazy & have not had much time to blog (both read/write)
- Best Wishes: Good luck to arc with his job search

On Love

This Sunday on the top-rated BYB blogshow, let us talk about something close to many of our hearts - LOVE.

Love is in the (helium) air...

Love is patient, Love is kind,
It does not envy, it does not boast,
It is not proud, It is not rude,
It is not self-seeking,
It is not easily angered,
It keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil,
but rejoices with the truth.

Love always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.

Love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends.

Love never fails.

~ Corinthians 13 : 4 - 8

§

- Personal: Back after company's annual dinner (was grand despite not getting a chance to eat as too busy making sure things were running smoothly...)
- Musings: Love is a many-splendour thing. Does it remain a cliche to hear that you are unique - just like everyone else?

I am so glad to be a unique individu... Whoops!

So the cynics among us say that individuality is over-rated.

Yet on the other hand statistics tell us things such as 95% of people are wrong. So to succeed, you just have to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing!

And also there's the middle path of being balanced favored. Meaning that each & every one of is unique in a way & of course we have parts of us that are very much part of a group or crowd since Homo sapiens are social creatures.

Very compelling discussions indeed from various viewpoints. Still the keyword here would be 'viewpoints'.

Each & everyone of us as we know sees things through our own eyes. And with that comes our own various interpretations of what makes an individual an individual.

Individuality can mean many things from the role we play. Anyone remembers the past hit song by Meredith Brooks?

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover
I'm a child, I'm a mother
I'm a sinner, I'm a saint
I do not feel ashamed...

Being an individual means knowing & growing with who you are, and includes being malleable to change. To be able to walk in a crowd without the need to do anything special (or stick out like a dumb halfwit prick). Yet to sometimes know when we need to voice out in a crowd despite going against the flow.

Do not mistake individuality for pompousness or standing out of the crowd. (Do not mistake a crowd for always being a mindless mob.) Individuality is simple - it's who you are (really) isn't it?

Me? I don't mind being a not very unique individual... as long as I look HAWT! ;)

Welcome to BC

What says you on individuality?

§

- Personal: Lying to myself that I am handling increased workload better of late due to transition; Still trying to make sure "I" give enough quality time alone with "myself" ;) (and no we're not talking about masturbating)
- Nonsensicalness: I love Rocky Road!
- Thoughts: Hrant Dink remains in our memories...

Air & Air

A slightly more serious post on the serious problem of flooding. And while I recognize that this being a BlogYourBlessings post should be focused on our blessings. Sometimes we need to look at things comparatively in order to count our blessings.

For example, I may be personally currently overworked & feeling like a clown juggling knives in the circus. Yet it pales much in comparison to many others worldwide who are in need of real help.

And oft disasters that strike seem so far away & we view things from a distant observer's viewpoint. Recall reading up on the tsunami that afflicted many in 2004 does help us to emphatize & view things more on a human(e) level.

Personally was fortunate enough to be help out a small scale as part of the organizing committee for a visit/helping hand to a village damaged by the tsunami previously. Looking forward to helping out at least once to charity this year as part of this year's goals.

Those suffering from wars, disasters & hunger - our hearts go out to you.

And at a nearer local front in Malaysia, too much water becomes an issue. The floods are receding in Johor down South. Yet a lot of assistance is still required to assist with many rebuilding their lives.

(Extracts from local publications)

The Star
Those interested to help or donate can contact The Star’s hotline at 03-7967 1697 (for public), and 03-7967 1238 (for corporate donors).

New Straits Times
Donations via cheque, bank draft or postal order made out to The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd can be sent to: The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, c/o Finance Department, 5th Floor, Balai Berita, 31, Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur (Attention: Aidah Nordin). I am actually...

Words to 'fess

Just Kidding!

HAHAHA. Gotcha there didn't I!

Ahem.

Anyway it wasn't for no reason. It was a ploy to get more people to click on the "Read full entry" link from the mainpage to be able to read the post in its entirety.

And there is of course a REAL confession to be made.

So today in public & online on a blog - I'm posting a confession of my habits as a blogger (in both the Author / Writer / Visitor / Blogder) points of view.

§

Stev the Blogger-Author
1. Blog only when inspiration strikes - sometimes streaks followed by silence...
2. Usually compose & keep a copy of blog entries in Notepad
3. Post usually begins with a singular theme/idea before the rest comes up
4. Rarely blog on personal stuff (to avoid Google caching / mundaneboringblogitis)
5. After a very long continued dry spell will resort to posting spam (sry!)
6. <s>Comment whore</s> Enjoy discussing on various issues on varying levels
7. The Feedburner gives a superficial ego boost ;) CLICK ME!
8. Pictures are usually spam, from uncle google, or the amazing deviantart
9. Blogging hours somehow tend to be in the wee hours of the morning...
10. Most posts have some side-humor or inside joke hidden (or I could be lying ;)

§

Stev the Blogder-Visitor
1. Usually will comment on blogs visited (unless really have no idea...)
2. Blogs on the Friends list are visited daily (when work doesnt kill me)
3. Other bLinks are visited regularly
4. Friends list depends on site relevancy to mine & interesting factor
5. Recently started list of blogders to vist them back as a courtesy call
6. Prefer to visit sites manually anyway despite using Google Reader
7. There is no spoon
8. My full Bloglist has 98 blogs
9. Blogs are sub-divided into: Directories, Friends, Others, PhotoBlogs, Tools, Visitors
10. Main reason I visit blogs is to <s>laugh at others</s> view things differently ;)

Any confessions YOU would like to make?

§

- Trivia: This post was going to be "Tastes like cabbage" (where I put up lots of pretty oh-so-beautiful-yet-useless spam pictures) till inspiration suddenly err... yeah. struck.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wJKjGuCrwwI/Raz7K7AKKTI/AAAAAAAAAG8/o3fdOydqgrg/s320/kimono-dog.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5020663849666881842" />
Example of Spam

- Blogging1: Lots of people seem to be having trouble categorizing this blog...
