got some good news - growing leaders

I'm so pleased that I've got a new role with Methodist Church down here in the SW of England as a regional trainer.... (subject to references, CRB, health) It's what i love doing and I'll still be able to develop NIGHTCHURCH and one or two other things ... it feels so perfect. Starts Sept 1st so have a relaxing August before - lots of camping, festivals, beaches, family and wife. The role involves developing 'growing experiences' for leaders in every area of church life ... including discipleship, freshexpressions,youth and children's workers, ordinands - love it!!

We've been camping to sunny cornwall - some great family time on this beach ... but some sad news today - my great uncle died yesterday ... nice, quiet guy, church virger. Rest in Peace Uncle Dave

This week - new Pioneer Leaders Course starts, getting some training in adult training, doing some training for some children's workers in Exmouth, exploring community house possibilities with two folks ... then NIGHTCHURCH on Friday. some exciting stuff!!

Yes - this is really my office - the Old Deanery , Exeter. Sitting outside with wifi-access and God-access too, not bad.
Got some training today and a backlog to deal with ... It's great to have summer with us, I need sunlight, bigtime.

A busy but really exciting week - I'm off to Bristol tomorrow to teach the Mission in POMO Context again - love doing that day conference - I could do it forever. My daughter has her SATS exams and I tell her they don't really matter - oops! Tuesday a big admin and catch up day. Training and speaking later on in week - all good stuff! Rangers in UEFA Cup Final Wednesday, Man UTd for double, Exeter for promotion at Wembley - come on!!

NIGHTCHURCH went GO LARGE last Friday and it was so good - Christian Aid partnered us and did a great job. Christian Aid week this week - give generously .

What a day

Had a great but long day starting at 1.30am this morning getting to London to speak on "mission/church in a post-modern context" - found myself in a room with 10+ nationalities 25 Christian Leaders - all missionaries to London from Africa, India, Sth America and Korea - for most of the day I was the only white guy. It was amazing and I got more from these people than I gave ... we really got excited about what God is doing and the pros (and cons) of the pomo context. Great satisfied feeling day.

having a few days with family - beach, DIY, building terrain for modelling, whittling inventions like horses, fish, statues and other fine wooden sculptors !
Back to it tomorrow with some prep for our GO JAZZ night at NIGHTCHURCH and in Plymouth developing a resource centre for children's ministry in the city. Then putting together a module on organic, simple, smaller expressions of church for a bunch of theological students on Monday/Tuesday - so quite busy but good busy.
Manchester was good - got to see old Granny Betty, 90 years old ! And had a drink with my youngest bro' Anthony.

Great sunrise views across the ocean out of my train window - this must be one of the best train journeys in UK. Having a day coaching someone setting up an arts charity - then NIGHTCHURCH tonight.. Great day. Then a weekend with tribe ... Off to my home city next week - Manchester - to speak to some folks on "mission in post-modern context". Great to be going back to roots - God bless Manchester!! I've been setting up two of my business sites this week - dadcoach and generous and a new version of jonestribe using this easy flash generator called swishmax 2 - I heartedly recommend it - I made www.nightchurch.org.uk with it. "Website construction for the pretend professional like me."

missionary thing stirring

The last few weeks have been really interesting as a new clarity has come to me - for those that know me it's been a real crossroads knowing what to focus on .. business ideas, wider extra-local ministry /speaking etc.. nightchurch excitements, new jobs, part-time ? full-time? wow !!!! It's been hard keeping it together to be honest.>>>>

So much of what is happening in the UK at the moment is about the church unlearning and putting on a missionary hat - seeing the UK through the eyes of a missionary and a missionary church. So I'm feeling a real peace to use that label for myself - "Steve Jones - having a go at doing the missionary thing..." focused around helping to grow churches, leaders and their movements ...

Also I have set up new ways in which people can support us through prayer ( news letters) and money ( standing orders and paypal one off donations - with giftaid coming soon) - click here
