If you haven't bought your tickets to Radio City Christmas Spectacular yet, perhaps you might consider this: during the ticket purchase process online, there is an option to add an extra $5, $10, etc to your order - this money goes straight to STG, and we are in turn using that money to purchase tickets to Radio City Christmas Spectacular for young people associated with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Puget Sound.

It's the holiday season, and we thought we'd make it easy to give a little something to back to our community. Hope it's something you'll consider! Tickets are on sale here.

Pixies Live Recordings - It's True!

This just in via Pollstar:

An outfit called Abbey Road Live has been recording every Pixies show on the band’s U.S. fall tour since the band hit the road Nov. 8. Although recordings of future shows will be sold at the end of every night’s performance beginning Nov. 23, fans wanting to purchase recordings of previous shows on the tour can do so at Web site DoolittleLive.com.

Gregory Maqoma/Vuyani Dance Theater IS FANTASTIC!

Spending time with Gregory and his musicians this week has been such an honor. Gregory is an incredible artist and I am so inspired by what he brings as a teacher as well.

Master classes & musician jams have brought new ideas of movement and culture to Seattle participants.

Our talk at Hidmo last night with Donald Byrd, Dumi Maraire, Gregory Maqoma and Vivian Phillips could not have been more engaging---Contemporary African and African American art today was the topic, and it blew me away to hear the diverse perspectives from these artists from across continents. The conversation was followed by musician jam and dancing!

The musicians accompanying Gregory are soooo talented and eclectic— sitar, cello, violin and percussion—what a cool sound all together. They really play from the soul.

Hidmo was a perfect spot to host such an eclectic group of artists and audience members....good food, good company, good music and good conversation. Thank you Hidmo, Donald, Dumi, Vivian and Gregory/Vuyani Dance Theater for bringing your great hearts to the table!

As an arts organization, you'd think that we'd be ALL ABOUT dressing up in the office for Halloween. Sadly, that is not the case - though this year, we got a lot more participation that we're used to.

1. Apparently, it is true what they say about arts orgs: we are just a bunch of damn hippies...and we're ok with that.

2. We are also some very serious Serenity / Firefly fans. Not sure what I'm talking about? Please read. I was glad Captain Malcolm Reynolds could make it in to work today.

3. While most of us gave up on trying to pull something together, a smart few realized that with a simple pair of ears, you could get right in the Halloween spirit!

Art & Reality at The Paramount

Walking in front of The Paramount Theatre poster windows, I spotted a photo shoot that caught my interest. It was the poster of the character Karen Weston (one of the sisters in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY) with the actress Amy Warren in front.

As this image brought to the forefront ART & REALITY, so does this stellar production of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, which I experienced last night with a standing ovation audience. The "A" List of actors, including the riveting Estelle Parsons, join the "A" list of everything else with this play. It is a NOT to be missed production running through Sunday. More info here!

And yesterday, as an extra benefit to young actors from Roosevelt High School, Paul Vincent O'Connor (Charlie Aiken) & Emily Kinney (Jean Fordham) shared what it was like to tour in one of the best plays in America right now.

Staff Pick for Halloween

The last time I saw Degenerate Art Ensemble was from the nose-bleed seats of the second balcony at The Moore Theatre and it was FANTASTIC. Not only was Cuckoo Crow the coolest thing I’d ever seen, the venue and the view from those seats was surreal.

I didn’t get a chance to catch DAE in rehearsals for Sonic Tales, but Jeremy Barker did – Here’s his write up of the show.

Let me tell you I have high hopes for this one and have a feeling I won't be disappointed!

The Pixies' Doolittle tour will be at STG's Paramount Theatre November 12 & 13 - and we just noticed some details have been released about the staging over at Filter-Mag.com.

Films created especially for this tour will play behind the band as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of their Doolittle album. And eyeball-like lighting? Wow. Read all about it here.

Kenny G with...Weezer??

Weezer, best known for their 1990s releases The Blue Album and its follow-up Pinkerton, are back in music news as they promote their latest effort, Raditude.

In taping a five-song session for AOL, Weezer rounded up an unlikely cast of collaborators, from Chamillionaire to Sara Bareilles and yep, Kenny G.

From Spinner.com: "I don't know anything about Weezer -- nothing," Kenny G, who's sold 75 millions albums worldwide, admitted to Spinner. "I've heard the name, but I never knew any of their songs [except] some song about a sweater ... with the wool coming apart?"

We're keeping our eyes out for video from this project - will keep you posted!

Seattle music writer Gene Stout was in the audience as Brandi Carlile played The Paramount Theatre this past Saturday night -

"With friends, family members and longtime fans clapping, singing along and shouting requests, the two-hour concert was just the latest concert milestone in a career that has advanced from the Paragon to the Paramount, from bars and coffee houses to large theaters.

“You know it’s a great crowd when you can get ‘em singing along that early in the show,” Carlile said after the third song, “What Can I Say,” adding, “I’m happy to be home.”
