The VA in 3D: Examiner Examined (Part 6)

Many kind readers have written me to ask about about my sudden and long silence, which began on Veterans Day. Some speculated that I might be having problems stemming from my Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). Regrettably, they were right.

ALS is a relentless foe that eventually attacks the respiratory system. Throughout 2011 I struggled with a chronic infection in my lungs, which flared up into pneumonia after my more intense periods of writing. Accordingly, I spent much of last year hospitalized:

Two weeks after my winter article, The False Flag Space Shuttle, anticipated the Fukushima nuclear calamity, which occurred two weeks later on 3/11/11.
A month after my summer article, Germany False Flag Forecast, anticipated the Oslo terror attack, which occurred three weeks later on 7/22/11.
Two weeks after my autumn article, World War Watch, anticipated the White House sniper shots, which occurred two days later on 11/11/11.

The lamentable time I spent at the Houston VA hospital was the subject of my series, The VA in 3D, of which this article is the latest installment. The previous five parts were:

The fifth of these articles described a psychological evaluation that to which I was subjected because the hospital administration resented my four previous articles. I was amazed to learn this from neurology department physician Dr. Muragen, who admitted to having ordered the exam. I took the blatant repression of my first amendment rights as an honor, then demanded that the malicious Muragen remove himself from my case, which he did.

The email exchange below exemplifies the mainstream interest that the series attracted, and the sorry state of what I blush to term American journalism:

To your knowledge, is medical mistreatment to veterans common? (Reply, 10/1: "I wouldn't be at all surprised, given my discovery that even violent crime against veterans is covered up by everyone from the nurses and doctors to the police and the inspector general.")
Why, in your opinion, do these staff members lack concern for their patients? (Reply, 10/1: "Because the VA covers up for its criminals and counterattacks its critics, thereby giving a green light to abuse.")
What should be done to protect our servicemen? (Reply, 10/1: "Install cameras and microphones. Punish physicians and nurses who fail to document and report patients' claims of abuse. Establish a review board for patient abuse reports, comprised solely of past and present patients, and elected annually by a vote of past and present patients.")

Wednesday, 10/5/11 -- Dear Samantha Gilman, your first question today (about the possibility that Eric was exaggerating) was an important one, and I would like to support my husband's claims about the deadliness of the two assaults against him.

The first assault was shortly after he left surgery and was under intensive care. The hospital admitted the event and imposed administrative punishment on the nurse.

As for the second assault, I was present when the hospital police took Eric's statement and interviewed various nurses. Both the police and I believed him, and they promised to prosecute the case.

Eric's claim that he desaturated and nearly died four days after the second assault is true. The hospital called me and confirmed his peril, and after I arrived they filled in the details.

Eric's claim that a staff member deliberately disabled his ventilator alarm is also true. The hospital chose to describe it as an inadvertent error, and respiratory therapy supervisor Antonia Jodinskas taught mandatory classes to her subordinates to make sure it didn't happen again.

I believe my husband's next article will be about an incident that occurred on the night of September 20th. He called me to tell me that the nurses had refused to answer his emergency call for assistance, and were preventing him from reporting it to the night physician. I attempted to call the physician (Dr. De Carlo) myself, but she didn't return my call. Eric said that she never came to take his statement.

A final point: In his five articles about the hospital, Eric never says that his attackers were trying to kill him. He says that they could have killed him, which is completely true. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to call me. -- Gretchen May

Both my wife and I are credible public figures in the Houston area, where she has been a Republican precinct chairwoman and I have been an NBC editorial writer. Thus The Washington Examiner had a formidable story at its disposal; shockingly though, they simply disposed of the story, and didn't answer my follow-up email asking whether they intended to run it. They had become deaf, dumb and blind exemplars of the post-9/11 profession of presstitution, in which there is no mainstream reporting on the military-industrial complex that hides under the euphemism of national defense.

Nullify the NDAA: Virginia House Bill 1660

Introduced in the Virginia House of Delegates is House Bill 1660 (HB1660) which "Prevents any agency, political subdivision, employee, or member of the military of Virginia from assisting an agency or the armed forces of the United States in the investigation, prosecution, or detainment of a United States citizen in violation of the Constitution of Virginia."

The bill is sponsored by Delegate Bob Marshall and was introduced on 01-16-12. It has been assigned to the House Courts of Justice Sub-Committee: #2 Civil. Visit this link for information on this Subcommittee.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. Notwithstanding any contrary provision of law, no agency of the Commonwealth as defined in § 8.01-385 of the Code of Virginia, political subdivision of the Commonwealth as defined in § 8.01-385 of the Code of Virginia, employee of either acting in his official capacity, or any member of the Virginia National Guard or Virginia Defense Force, when such a member is serving in the Virginia National Guard or the Virginia Defense Force on official state duty, may engage in any activity that aids an agency of or the armed forces of the United States in the execution of 50 U.S.C. 1541 as provided by the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 (P.L. 112-18, § 1021) in the investigation, prosecution, or detainment of any citizen of the United States in violation of Article I, Section 8 or 11 of the Constitution of Virginia.

Virginia is now the first state in the nation to introduce and consider a version of the Liberty Preservation Act (click here for model legislation for your state) in response to unconstitutional kidnapping provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2012. ACTA: The new threat to Internet freedom

A new global treaty could allow corporations to police everything that we do on the Internet. Last week 3 million of us successfully pushed back the US censorship bills -- if we act now, we can get the EU Parliament to bury this new threat to all of us:

A recent study conducted by a German university found very high concentrations of Glyphosate, a carcinogenic chemical found in herbicides like Monsanto's Roundup, in all urine samples tested. The amount of glyphosate found in the urine was staggering, with each sample containing concentrations at 5 to 20-fold the limit established for drinking water. This is just one more piece of evidence that herbicides are, at the very least, being sprayed out of control.

Glyphosate in Monsanto's Roundup Impacting Global Health

This news comes only one month after it was found that glyphosate, contained in Monsanto's Roundup, is contaminating the groundwater in the areas in which it is used. What does this mean? It means that toxic glyphosate is now polluting the world's drinking water through the widespread contamination of aquifers, wells and springs. The recent reports of glyphosate showing up in all urine samples only enhances these past findings.

Monsanto continues to make the claim that their Roundup products are completely safe for both animals and humans. However many environmentalists, scientists , activists, and even doctors say otherwise. Glyphosate radically affects the metabolism of plants in a negative way. It is a systemic poison preventing the formation of essential amino acids, leading to weakened plants which ultimately die from it.

A formula seems to have been made to not only ruin the agricultural system, but also compromise the health of millions of people worldwide. With the invent of Monsanto's Roundup Ready crops, resistant superweeds are taking over farmland and public health is being attacked. As it turns out, glyphosate is also leaving behind its residue on Roundup Ready crops, causing further potential concern for public health. Glyphosate is even contributing to escalating rates of mental illness and obesity through the depletion of beneficial gut flora that directly regulates these functions. But it certainly doesn't stop there.

Researchers tested roundup on mature male rats at a concentration range between 1 and 10,000 parts per million (ppm), and found that within 1 to 48 hours of exposure, testicular cells of the mature rats were either damaged or killed. Even at a concentration of 1 ppm, the Roundup was able to affect the test subjects by decreasing their testosterone concentrations by as much as 35%.

I received the following information from Don Fredrick: Hawaii Deputy Attorney General Jill T. Nagamine has already told Taitz that the state "will not comply with a subpoena from Georgia." This could get interesting.

According to BirtherReport.com , "A new lawsuit against the Hawaii Department of Health has been filed by Hawaii Attorney Gerald Kurashima on behalf of Duncan Sunahara, Virginia Sunahara's brother. The case has been assigned to Judge Nishimura." Virginia Sunahara was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961, and died the next day. in March 2010 Sunahara's name appeared in the 1960–1964 birth index of the Hawaii Department of Health (HDOH). The HDOH has refused to release a copy of the infant's birth certificate, and now claims, "We have no records responsive to your request." There is speculation that Obama, needing to create a forged birth certificate to prove he was born in Honolulu on August 4, 1961, had someone use Sunahara's birth certificate as his template, changing fields on the form as necessary using Photoshop or another computer graphics program. Using the birth certificate of a person born on the same day allowed Obama to gain a document number that was within the proper range and, of course, a dead person never asks for a copy of her birth certificate. Sunahara's
gender and hospital name did not match the information Obama needed, and those were among the data fields that appear to have been altered on his alleged birth certificate.

domestic-terrorist pal, wrote in his book Fugitive Days of his methods for obtaining false identities as he hid from the FBI. (Ayers wrote, "I spent impious days over the next several months tramping through rural cemeteries in Iowa and Wisconsin, Illinois and North Dakota, searching for those sad little markers of people born between 1940 and
1950 who had died between 1945 and 1955. The numbers were surprising: two in one graveyard, a cluster of fourteen in another. Those poor souls had typically been issued birth certificates—available to us at any county courthouse for a couple of bucks and a simple form with information I could copy from the death announcement at the archive of the local paper…")

Obama's problem is that controlling access to his own records is easier than restricting those of complete strangers. The Hawaii Department of Health has no legal justification for preventing the brother of a dead infant from accessing her birth records, but BirtherSummit.org's Dean Haskins reports that when he and Duncan Sunahara went to the Hawaii Department of Health to request his sister's records, they were told they were not allowed access. Haskins states, "When we pointed out to Supervisor Jesse Koike that their 'rules' were illegal, according to Hawaiian statutes, he told us that Duncan would have to discuss that with Dr. Alvin Onaka. We spent four hours waiting to speak with Onaka, who eventually instructed the security guard to throw us out of the facility (which seems to be outrageous behavior from someone with nothing to hide). Duncan also made several phone calls trying to make an appointment to see Onaka, but could not get him even to return his calls." (After also getting a runaround from the state's Attorney General, Sunahara filed his lawsuit.)

The medieval-military force that was used in the Crusades to carry out the supposed total Conquest of the Muslim world failed then, and it will fail now as well. Not because of religion, or war-making powersit will FAIL now because their quest to dominate the world is insufficient to triumph over a planet that is still resisting their "best-efforts" in places like Palestine and Syria and Iraq as well as Iran.

Few have noticed how long it takes for the behemoth of government to do anything by way of investigating the things that that damage the nationespecially when that's contrasted with the light-speed that applies to every fascist new program which gets moved into position dailyto further undermine this place. And of course this has been the case since civilization began keeping records.

A case in point: Homeland Security will be taking over policing procedures throughout the US, leaving people everywhere without local representation inside law-enforcement, anywhere here and they've admitted that the entire charade surrounding TSA was nothing but a shell game until they could maneuver themselves into this position where the government terrorists now will have total control over the public no matter where that public is. No longer must the public go to TSA to be beaten, searched, and sexually assaulted; now all these services are available from local police 24-7, and this was all planned from the beginning of HOMELAND INSECURITY.

"A new white paper presented to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence carves out an 'evolving mission' for Homeland Security that moves away from fighting terrorism and towards growing a vast domestic intelligence apparatus that would expand integration with local/state agencies and private-public partnerships already underway via regional fusion centers.

Crafted by the Aspen Institute Homeland Security Group, co-chaired by former DHS chief Michael Chertoff and composed of a who's who of national security figures, the report outlines a total mission creep, as the title "Homeland Security and Intelligence: Next Steps in Evolving the Mission" implies.

Significantly, it puts on paper and into the Congressional record a proposed transition from outwardly dealing with the threats posed by terrorism towards intelligence gathering "focused on more specific homeward-focused areas." That is, the homegrown, domestic threats we've heard so much about from Big Sis already.

In short, it confirms the intentions of key insiders including former NSA/CIA head Michael Hayden, former Rep. Jane Harmon, former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, 9/11 Commissioners Philip Zelikow and Richard Ben-Viniste, former National Security Advisor Samuel Berger and others to flesh out a plan we have already seen developing from an outside perspective namely, to build a domestic Stasi-like force to takeover, monitor and control the population." You have a near perfect document. In the words of Benjamin Franklin in 1744, to a collection of colonists discussing freedom, he said to them " If the nation to the North can form a near perfect union that has endured for centuries; why cannot we form 'a MORE perfect union'"? They're talking about the Iroquois Confederacy and that's where the Constitution comes from. Because in 1988 on the eve of the 200^th Anniversary of the Constitution it was the unanimous "Thank You" by the congress of the United States: They sent this in writing to the Six Nations, Iroquois-Confederacy, thanking them for their input into the Constitution, and the formation of the United States of America. Notice please that to win anything the native population had to fight the US military and win, before even what little they still have could be acquired. We've stopped this many times, but the government went ahead and put all the information on our driver's licenses and passports anyhow. All that was missing (until now) was this digital and optical facial recognition data that is now being gathered, because 30 highschool-students cheated on a national test. There is no longer any point to having these tests any longer as THERE ARE NO JOBS TO GET! All that attending a university will "get you" is a huge DEBT in the middle of the rest of your life, with NO EDUCATION, and only a bullshit piece of paper that will cost you about $50,000 (before interest is added) to acquire. And on the strength of this total LIE (regarding both education and the reason for the newly invasive ID capabilities); this country will begin to REQUIRE these forms of ID on any ID that really matters in the future! It is truly amazing that so many new agencies, at a cost of trillions are joining into the government's hijacking of the entire population through so many new and brutal methods that are supposed to appear-to-us to be absolutely-impregnable! Their lies are obvious. And there is plenty of blame to go around. The end of both parties is on the political horizon.

It is common knowledge in America that politicians, bankers, and corporations who are part of the evil political elite have robbed the American people and the people of many other nations of a safe, productive, and happy future. The media's complicity in this betrayal is perhaps the biggest act of treason and terrorism against the American people. Their information blockade of America is an act of media warfare. As the drums of war begin to beat once again in Iran, Syria, the South China Sea, and other potential hotspots and flashpoints around the globe, concerned citizens are asking how a world so sick of bloodshed and a population so tired of conflict could be led to this spot once again.

To understand this seeming paradox, we must first understand the centuries-long history of how media has been used to whip the nation into wartime frenzy, dehumanize the supposed enemies, and even to manipulate the public into believing in causes for war that, decades later, were admitted to be completely fictitious.

The term "yellow journalism" was coined to describe the type of sensationalistic, scandal-driven, and often erroneous style of reporting popularized by newspapers like William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal. In one of the most egregious examples of this phenomenon, Hearst's papers widely trumpeted the sinking of the Maine as the work of the Spanish. Whipped into an anti-Spanish frenzy by a daily torrent of stories depicting Spanish forces' alleged torture and rape of Cubans, and pushed over the edge by the Maine incident, the public welcomed the beginning of the US-Spanish war. Although it is now widely believed that the explosion on the Maine was due to a fire in one of its coal bunkers, the initial lurid reports of Spanish involvement stuck and the nation was led into war.

In many ways, the phrase infamously attributed to Hearst in reply to his illustrator "You furnish the pictures and I'll furnish the war," apocryphal as the story may be, nevertheless perfectly encodes the method by which the public would be led to war time and again through the decades.

The US was drawn into World War I by the sinking of the Lusitania, a British ocean liner carrying American passengers that was torpedoed by German U-boats off the coast of Ireland, killing over 1,000 of its passengers. What the public was not informed about at the time, of course, was that just one week before the incident, then-First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill had written to the President of the Board of Trade that it was "most important to attract neutral shipping to our shores, in the hopes especially of embroiling the United States with Germany." Nor did reports of the attack announce that the ship was carrying rifle ammunition and other military supplies. Instead, reports once again emphasized that the attack was an out-of-the-blue strike by a maniacal enemy, and the public was led into the war.

The US involvement in World War II was likewise the result of deliberate disinformation. Although the Honolulu Advertiser had even predicted the attack on Pearl Harbor days in advance, the Japanese Naval codes had already been deciphered by that time, and that even Henry Stimson, the US Secretary of War, had noted in his diary the week before that he had discussed in a meeting with Roosevelt "how we should maneuver them [the Japanese] into the position of firing the first shot without allowing too much danger to ourselves," the public were still led to believe that the Pearl Harbor attack had been completely unforeseen. Just last month, a newly-declassified memo emerged showing that FDR had been warned of an impending Japanese attack on Hawaii just three days before the events at Pearl Harbor, yet the history books still portray Pearl Harbor as an example of a surprise attack.

In August 1964, the public was told that the North Vietnamese had attacked a US Destroyer in the Gulf of Tonkin on two separate occasions. The attacks were portrayed as a clear example of "communist aggression" and a resolution was soon passed in Congress authorizing President Johnson to begin deploying US forces in Vietnam. In 2005, an internal NSA study was released concluding that the second attack in fact never took place. In effect, 60000 American servicemen and as many as three million Vietnamese, let alone as many as 500,000 Cambodians and Laotians, lost their lives because of an incident that did not occur anywhere but in the imagination of the Johnson administration and the pages of the American media.

In 1991, the world was introduced to the emotional story of Nayirah, a Kuwaiti girl who testified about the atrocities committed by Iraqi forces in Kuwait.

What the world was never told was that the incident had in fact been the work of a public relations firm, Hill and Knowltown, and the girl had actually been the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador. Once again, the public was whipped into a frenzy of hatred for the Hussein regime, not for the documented atrocities that it had actually committed on segments of its own population with weapons supplied to them by the United States itself, but on the basis of an imaginary story told to the public via their televisions, orchestrated by a pr firm.

In the lead-up to the war on Iraq, the American media infamously took the lead in framing the debate about the Iraqi government's weapons of mass destruction NOT as a question of whether or not they even existed, but as a question of where they had been hidden and what should be done to disarm them. The New York Times led the way with Judith Miller's now infamous reporting on the Iraqi WMD story, now known to have been based on false information from untrustworthy sources, but the rest of the media fell into line with the NBC Nightly News asking "what precise threat Iraq and its weapons of mass destruction pose to America", and Time debating whether Hussein was "making a good-faith effort to disarm Iraq's weapons of mass destruction." Reports about chemical weapons stashes were reported on before they were confirmed, although headlines boldly asserted their existence as indisputable fact. We now know that in fact the stockpiles did not exist, and the administration premeditatedly lied the country into yet another war, but the most intense opposition the Bush administration ever received over this documented war crime was some polite correction on the Sunday political talk show circuit.

Remarkably, the public at large has seemingly learned nothing from all of these documented historical manipulations. If anything, the media has become even bolder in its attempts to manipulate the public's perceptions, perhaps emboldened by the fact that so few in the audience seem willing to question the picture that is being painted for them on the evening news.

Later that year, CNN aired footage of a bombed out Tskhinvali in South Ossetia, falsely labeling it as footage of Gori, which they said had been attacked by the Russians.

In 2009, the BBC showed a cropped image of a rally in Iran which they claimed was a crowd of protesters who assembled to show their opposition to the Iranian government. An uncropped version of the same photograph displayed on the LA Times' website, however, revealed that the photo in fact came from a rally in support of Ahmedinejad.

In August of 2011, the BBC ran footage of what they claimed was a celebration in Tripoli's Green Square. When sharp-eyed viewers noticed that the flags in the footage were in fact Indian flags, the BBC was forced to admit that they had "accidentally" broadcast footage from India instead of Tripoli.

Also that month, CNN reported on a story from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claiming that eight infants in incubators had died in a hospital in Hama when Syrian authorities cut off power in the area. Some news sites even carried pictures of the infants. The images were later admitted to have been taken in Egypt and no evidence has ever emerged to back up the accusations.

As breathtaking as all of these lies, manipulations and so-called "mistakes" are, they in and of themselves don't represent the only functions of the media for the war machine. Now, the US government is taking the lead in becoming more and more directly involved with the shaping of the media message on war propaganda, and the general public is becoming even more ensnared in a false picture of the world through the Pentagon's own lens.

In 2005, the Bush White House admitted to producing videos that were designed to look like news reports from legitimate independent journalists, and then feeding those reports to media outlets as prepackaged material ready to air on the evening news. When the Government Accountability Office ruled that these fake news reports in fact constituted illegal covert propaganda, the White House simply issued a memo declaring the practice to be legal.

In April 2008, the New York Times revealed a secret US Department of Defense program that was launched in 2002 and involved using retired military officers to implant Pentagon talking points in the media. The officers were presented as "independent analysts" on talk shows and news programs, although they had been specially briefed beforehand by the Pentagon. In December of 2011, the DoD's own Inspector General released a report concluding that the program was in perfect compliance with government policies and regulations.

Earlier this year, it was revealed the the US government had contracted with HBGary Federal to develop software that create fake social media accounts in order to steer public opinion and promote propaganda on popular websites. The federal contract for the software sourced back to the MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.

As the vehicle through which information from the outside world is captured, sorted, edited and transmitted into our homes, the mass media has the huge responsibility of shaping and informing our understanding of events to which we don't have first-hand access. This is an awesome responsibility in even the most ideal conditions, with diligent reporters guided by trustworthy editors doing their level best to report the most important news in the most straightforward way.

But in a media landscape where a handful of companies own virtually all of the print, radio and television media in each nation, the only recourse the public has is to turn away from the mainstream media altogether. And that is precisely what is happening.

As study after study and report after report has shown, the death of the old media has accelerated in recent years, with more and more people abandoning newspapers and now even television as their main source of news. Instead, the public is increasingly turning toward online sources for their news and information, something that is necessarily worrying for the war machine itself, a system that can only truly flourish when the propaganda arm is held under monopolistic control.

But as citizens turn away from the New York Times and toward independent websites, many run and maintained by citizen journalists and amateur editors, the system that has consolidated its control over the minds of the public for generations seems to finally be showing signs that it may not be invincible.

Surely this is not to say that online media is impervious to the defects that have made the traditional media so unreliable. Quite the contrary. But the difference is that online, there is still for the time being relative freedom of choice at the individual level. While internet freedom exists, individual readers and viewers don't have to take the word of any website or pundit or commentator on any issue. They can check the source documentation themselves, except, perhaps not coincidentally, on the websites of the traditional media bastions, which tend not to link source material and documentation in their articles.

Hence the SOPA Act, Protect IP, the US government's attempts to seize websites at the domain name level, and all of the other concerted attacks we have seen on internet freedoms in recent years.

Because ultimately, an informed and engaged public is far less likely to go along with wars waged for power and profit. And as the public becomes better informed about the very issues that the media has tried to lie to them about for so long, they realize that the answer to all of the mainstream media's war cheerleading and blatant manipulation is perhaps simpler than we ever suspected: All we have to do is turn them off.

An ACTA of war: Secret censor tool to shake up world wide web

January 24, 2012 "RT" -- As cyberspace turns its attention to the SOPA and PIPA bills in the US, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, or ACTA, has been quietly signed or ratified by most of the developed world and is arguably the biggest threat to Internet freedom yet.

ACTA has – officially – been in the works since 2008, and was signed by the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea in 2011. All negotiations were held behind closed doors, and it is mostly thanks to Internet hacktivist groups like Anonymous that news of the potential damage ACTA could cause has spread.

Most recently, Anonymous turned their attention to Poland, where officials announced that they will sign the controversial treaty on January 26. A number of government website attacks has left them paralyzed for two days, and several Polish websites have since announced they will go dark in protest at the treaty, echoing recent unprecedented actions by Wikipedia, Redditt, BoingBoing and many others.

However, Polish officials have said they will sign the agreement as planned. Government minister Michal Boni said "The ACTA agreement in no way changes Polish laws or the rights of Internet users and Internet usage," after a meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The irony of that statement is that ACTA will do exactly that. It will surpass the sovereign laws of participating nations, especially in the matter of ISP monitoring.

ACTA's reach is far more global, with countries like the US, Switzerland, Japan and all European Union members in its grasp. It is allegedly being introduced "to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries' law enforcement agencies." But in reality, the measures that have been worked on by behind-the-scenes politicians and media industry moguls are just shy of draconian.

Under this new treaty, Internet Service Providers will police all data passing through them, making them legally responsible for what their users do online. And should you do something considered "breach of copyright" like, for instance, getting a tattoo of a brand logo, taking a photo and posting it somewhere, you may be disconnected from the Internet, fined or even jailed.

This, of course, threatens the entire founding idea of the Internet – the free sharing of information. But ACTA doesn't stop there. It goes beyond the Internet, bearing down on generic drugs and food patents. If passed, ACTA will enforce a global standard for seed patenting, which would wipe out independent, local farmers and make the world completely dependent on the patent owners (read "big corporations") for supplies. {emphasis added. –Lisa}

The agreement states that it must be signed and ratified by 2013, but the seemingly late deadline is no cause for celebration. And if the secrecy surrounding this latest censor tool continues to hold, it may be put into effect without anyone noticing.

Google requires all users to agree to new privacy policy

Google announced Tuesday that it will require all of its users to agree to a new privacy policy that will integrate user data across 60 Google products including Gmail, YouTube and search. The policy will also encompass information, including location data, collected on mobile devices.

Users will not be allowed to opt-out.

In a company blog post, Google privacy director Alma Whitten said that "if you're signed in, we may combine information you've provided from one service with information from other services. In short, we'll treat you as a single user across all our products, which will mean a simpler, more intuitive Google experience."

The new policy will take effect March 1.

Google announced Tuesday that it will integrate users' information across Gmail, YouTube, search and 57 other Google services.

Google privacy director Alma Whitten, who explained the changes in a company blog post released in the afternoon, said the company will "treat you as a single user across all our products, which will mean a simpler, more intuitive Google experience."

What is Google doing?: In a nutshell, Google is taking information from almost all of your Google services — including Gmail, Picasa, YouTube and search — and integrating the data so that they can learn more about you. (Information from Google Books, Google Wallet and Google Chrome will not be integrated, partly for legal reasons.)

What kind of information are they collecting and integrating?:

Almost anything that's already in the Google ecosystem: calendar appointments, location data, search preferences, contacts, personal habits based on Gmail chatter, device information and search queries, to name a few.

Can they do that?: Not under the company's current privacy policies, but Google is introducing a new, unified policy that you can't opt-out of.

Why is Google doing this?: Google says it will be able to do a lot more "cool things" when it combines information across products. There's "so much more that Google can do to help you" if you share your information with them.

Give me an example.: From Whitten's blog post: Google will be able to "provide reminders that you're going to be late for a meeting based on your location, your calendar and an understanding of what traffic is like that day."

Interesting. Tell me more:Also from Whitten: Google will be able to "ensure that our spelling suggestions, even for your friends' names, are accurate because you've typed them before."

When do the changes take effect?:March 1.

Can I opt-out?: No.

So what do I do if I don't like the policy?: You can close your account. Google has provided information on how to take all of your personal information off of Google by closing your Google Account, which would erase your Gmail, Google+ and other accounts.

But I have a lot of data saved on Gmail/Picasa/etc...: Google says it is committed to "data liberation" and that it will allow you to take your information elsewhere if you want to. The company said it would provide directions on how to do this in the help sections for its various services.

I don't have a Google Account, but use Google search. Am I affected?: No. The new policy only applies to people who have a Google Account linked to services such as Gmail, Picasa or YouTube and are signed in.

What if I have account but am not signed in?: Google can only integrate your information if you are signed in. For example, if you're signed in to your Gmail account on one tab, and then decide to look up a clip on YouTube on another tab without signing out of your e-mail, the data will be integrated. If you sign out or look up a YouTube clip on a different browser, the data won't be integrated.

I have an Android phone. How does this affect me?: Because you have to sign in to your Google account to do anything except for browse the Web and make phone calls, Google will be able to track practically anything you do on your phone.

What about if I have an iPhone/Blackberry/Windows 8 phone?: Google's new privacy policy doesn't get into the specifics of what it can collect on different platforms and whether this changes if you download a Google app or if you access Gmail, for instance, on your phone's browser or competitor's app. But it does say that if you sign into Google services, Google will be able to collect information about your device and usage.

Can you be more specific about the type of information Google will be able to collect on mobile devices?

The privacy policy allows the company to collect a great deal of data: Your device hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers and mobile network information. Google says it may associate your device identifiers or phone number with your Google Account. Details of how you use the service, such as search queries. Telephony log information like time and date of calls, duration of calls. IP addresses. Cookies that may "uniquely identify your browser or your Google Account."

Ron Paul fights indefinite detention of Americans

Ron Paul took a day off from the campaign trail on Wednesday, not to pause from politics, but to urge his colleagues on Capitol Hill to overturn the provision in the National Defense Authorization Act that allows indefinite detention for Americans.

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, or the NDAA, was inked by President Barack Obama on New Year's Eve, despite immense opposition from Americans who were concerned by vague language that could allow the commander-in-chief to use military forces to domestically police the United States. Under Section 1021 of the NDAA, any person, US citizen or not, can be held without trial by American armed forces if they are suspected of being engaged in hostilities against the country by al-Qaeda or associated forces.

Opponents of the act — and there are many — have questioned the language of the specific section, as it could be written to allow the president to enforce the law to imprison anyone suspected of any crime that could be considered by the right person in office to be an act of terror. President Obama said that he would not abide by this rule, but despite a signing statement that his administration won't act in that manner, it does not mean that the promise will be upheld.

ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero called Obama's approval of the legislation is "a blight on his legacy," insisting that "he will forever be known as the president who signed indefinite detention without charge or trial into law," and the Council on American-Islamic Relations called the bill an "ill-conceived and un-American legislation" that will "forever be seen as a stain on our nation's history — one that will ultimately be viewed with embarrassment and shame." Additionally, this week RT reported that noted journalist Chris Hedges has filed a lawsuit against the White House over the legislation, questioning the legality of the authorization and calling it "a catastrophic blow to civil liberties."

On Wednesday this week, however, Ron Paul spoke from Capitol Hill, not South Carolina where the rest of his Republican Party rivals were campaigning before the state's primary scheduled for this weekend. While in Washington to vote against raising the debt ceiling, Congressman Ron Paul also used the opportunity to go after Obama for signing the NDAA and offered a proposal that, if passed, would strike Section 1031 off the Act.

The move makes Paul not just the first frontrunner in the race for the GOP nomination to speak out against the act, but the first congressman to openly offer a solution to the legislation since it was authorized into law.

Paul began his address on Wednesday by noting that the National Defense Authorization Act was "quietly signed into law by the president on New Year's Day," sarcastically saluting it by adding, "and what a way to usher in a New Year."

"Section 1021 provides for the possibility of the US military acting as a kind of police force on US soil, apprehending terror suspects – including Americans — and whisking them off to an undisclosed location indefinitely," said Paul.

"No right to attorney, no right to trial, no day in court."

While GOP contender Mitt Romney said during a debate from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last week that he would have also authorized such legislation, Congressman Paul went over his time limit on stage in urging Americans to pay attention to the dangerous provisions included in the Act. In front of the debate crowd, Paul told the US not to lose faith in the country's judicial system. From Washington only a week later, Congressman Paul asked his peers to think about America's past once more, asking, "Have we not tried in civilian court and won convictions of hundreds of individuals for terrorist or related activities?" He added to his fellow legislature that this transformation away from a country founded on the ideals of the Constitution would soon lead America on the road to a place no one would wish it goes.

"This is precisely the kind of egregious distortion of justice that Americans have always ridiculed in so many dictatorships overseas," said Paul, comparing it to the gulag system of the Soviet Union.

"Is this really the kind of United States we want to create in the name of fighting terrorism?" asked the congressman from Texas.

"Some have argued that nothing in Section 1021 explicitly mandates holding Americans without trial, but it employs vague language radically expanding the detention authority to include anyone who has 'substantially supported' certain terrorist groups or 'associated forces,'" said Paul. "No one has defined what those two terms mean. What is an 'associated force'?" he asked.

In a statement explaining his lawsuit against the president, Chris Hedges addressed the same concern earlier this week, calling into question the countless conversations he has had with people that the US government has labeled as terrorists. As a foreign correspondent, Hedges says, he met regularly with leaders from groups such as Hamas, the Islamic Jihad in Gaza, the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Revolutionary Guard in Iran.

"What would this bill have meant if it had been in place when I and other Americans traveled in the 1980s with armed units of the Sandinistas in Nicaragua or the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front guerrillas in El Salvador? What would it have meant for those of us who were with the southern insurgents during the civil war in Yemen or the rebels in the southern Sudan?" asked Hedges. "I have had dinner more times than I can count with people whom this country brands as terrorists. But that does not make me one."

While Hedges attacked Obama in drafting his explanation of the lawsuit, Paul spoke from the Capitol that his own peers in Congress are just as responsible for crafting the NDAA and corrupting others lawmakers into signing it, even as they themselves openly acknowledged the dangers of the act.

"Sadly, too many of my colleagues are too willing to undermine our Constitution to support such outrageous legislation," said Paul. "One senator even said about American citizens picked up under this section of the NDAA, 'When they say, "I want my lawyer," you tell them, "Shut up. You don't get a lawyer."' Is this acceptable in someone one who has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution?" he asked. The congressman in question was Senator Lindsay Graham, who did indeed have such vile words in encouraging others to sign the Act. "For those American citizens thinking about helping al-Qaeda, please know what will come your way: death; detention; prosecution," explained Senator Graham while the Act was originally up for discussion.

Sadly, prosecution could very well be the last step in an instance where an American is imprisoned under the NDAA. In Section 1031, citizens can indeed be held indefinitely, and as we've learned with the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that term of detainment could easily extend a decade, if not longer, without a trial ever being ordered. Over 170 prisoners are still held at Gitmo, including some that have been there without charge since the US began installing suspected war criminals there more than ten years ago. Under Section 1031, your neighbor, uncle or yourself could be the next person to don an orange jumpsuit and Ron Paul recognized how detrimental this is to American liberty.

In his closing remarks Wednesday, Paul explained that he was without a doubt opposed to acts of terrorism. "I recognize how critical it is that we identify and apprehend those who are suspected of plotting attacks against Americans. But why do we have so little faith in our justice system?" he asked.

Paul added that he wished to continue going after terrorists, but said, "let us not abandon what is so unique and special about our system of government in the process."

"I hope my colleagues will join my effort to overturn the shameful Section 1021," concluded the congressman.

One thing that the GOP doesn't bring up much anymore is crime.

In the '70s and '80s, crime was one of the biggest red-meat issues that the Republicans demagogued about. An infamous political ad about an inmate released in Governor Dukakis' prison probation program probably (along with some other missteps) lost him the presidency in 1988. It was simply known as getting "Wilie Hortoned," named after the offender (in the attack ad), who was singled out as an example of "liberalism" molly coddling violent criminals.

However, the Republicans can't talk about being soft on crime anymore, because the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world. It's not just a penal system; it's an industry. And due to the aging of the population (young people commit most "crimes"), changing police practices and the locking up of so many poor people, crime in the United States is down - down dramatically.

A New Yorker article by Adam Gopnik, "The Caging of America," shockingly notes:

Over all, there are now more people under "correctional supervision" in America - more than six million - than were in the Gulag Archipelago under Stalin at its height. That city of the confined and the controlled, Lockuptown, is now the second largest in the United States.

And the toll on minorities is devastating:

For a great many poor people in America, particularly poor black men, prison is a destination that braids through an ordinary life, much as high school and college do for rich white ones. More than half of all black men without a high-school diploma go to prison at some time in their lives. Mass incarceration on a scale almost unexampled in human history is a fundamental fact of our country today - perhaps the fundamental fact, as slavery was the fundamental fact of 1850. In truth, there are more black men in the grip of the criminal-justice system - in prison, on probation, or on parole - than were in slavery then.

Gopnik is appalled: "The scale and the brutality of our prisons are the moral scandal of American life."

The roots of violence are complex, but don't equate our incarceration system with just violent offenders. There is an extremely large percentage of American citizens in jail for nonviolent offenses, particularly relating to drugs - and particularly minorities in relation to drug "violations."

To what degree our propensity to hold the world's record for people behind bars is due to economic disparity is not an idle question. There aren't many wealthy people who end up behind bars, nor do rich areas evidence much crime for which people find themselves in prison, except for an occasional Bernie Madoff. Wealthy people tend to commit financial crimes - and if their breaking of the law does not involve millions of dollars, they tend to strike a plea bargain that doesn't require being put in a cell for years on end.

Just look at the lack of prosecution of Wall Street speculators and mortgage fraud financiers. But if you are poor and bounce a check three times, the taxpayer will pay some $20,000 or more a year to keep you confined by the state.

In reflecting upon how America arrived at this harsh, expansive prison system, Gopnik refers to one theory:

"American prisons trace their lineage not only back to Pennsylvania penitentiaries but to Texas slave plantations." White supremacy is the real principle, this thesis holds, and racial domination the real end. In response to the apparent triumphs of the sixties, mass imprisonment became a way of reimposing Jim Crow.

Blacks are now incarcerated seven times as often as whites. "The system of mass incarceration works to trap African Americans in a virtual (and literal) cage," the legal scholar Michelle Alexander writes. Young black men pass quickly from a period of police harassment into a period of "formal control" (i.e., actual imprisonment) and then are doomed for life to a system of "invisible control." Prevented from voting, legally discriminated against for the rest of their lives, most will cycle back through the prison system.

What if black males in impoverished circumstances - living in areas with opportunities for employment - were given jobs instead of jail sentences?

That's a question no political candidate for the presidency - Republican or Democrat - will ask aloud.

It too closely touches upon the truth: that we have economically abandoned large swathes of cities and rural areas, and that we have offered the inhabitants of those impoverished communities "boarding" in prison instead of work.

Even as the economy incrementally crawls toward improvement, the same people we have left behind in good times will continue to be left behind in bad.

Instead, at great economic cost to taxpayers, we will house them in penal institutions. After they fulfill their sentences, they will have an even slimmer chance at obtaining gainful employment.

We, as a society, have caged people of color and poor whites for our social caste convenience - and for that we have pitifully obtained No. 1 bragging rights in the world: top jailer on the planet.

India has reportedly agreed to pay Tehran in gold for the oil it buys, in a move aimed at protecting Delhi from US-sanctions targeting countries who trade with Iran. China, another buyer of Iranian oil, may follow Delhi's lead.

The report, by the Israeli-based news website DEBKAfile, states that Iran and India are negotiating backup alternatives with China and Russia, should the US and EU find a way to block the gold payment mechanism.

Delhi's move is seen as surprising, as earlier India and Iran said they would switch to yen and rupees. China, another major importer of Iranian oil, may follow Delhi's lead, the report adds.

India and China need to switch from the dollar in bilateral trade, since the US and EU have issued unilateral sanctions against the Iranian oil industry and financial institutions. The sanctions would ban any bank involved in oil trade with Iran from dealing with American and European counterparts.

Both India and China, two major buyers of Iranian oil accounting for 22 and 13 percent of its total export respectively, have refused to join such sanctions. This means they have to establish a reliable way of paying for crude, independently of the parts of the global financial system controlled by New York and London.

Delhi's current plan is to effect payments through two state-owned banks, India's UCO Bank and Turkey's Halk Bankasi, Turkey being another country refusing to join the sanction spree.

The US issued sanctions against Iran in December, aiming to put pressure on the Islamic Republic and make its controversial nuclear program more transparent. The EU joined the initiative on Monday, banning new oil contracts with Iran, but allowing current ones to be fulfilled.

Australia on Tuesday became the latest country to voice plans for such an embargo, although the move would be more symbolic than practical, considering the country's small share in Iran's oil export.

Japan and South Korea, two other major buyers of Iranian crude, are in talks with Washington over the issue, although both Seoul and Tokyo are worried that stopping their imports could hurt their economies.

Iran, which is highly dependent on its sales of oil, is reacting to the sanction campaign nervously. Tehran says it will not yield to pressure, and threatens to block the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil tanker route in the Persian Gulf.

German political analyst Christoph R. Horstel told RT that amid the economic crisis the embargo on Iranian oil imports could backfire on the EU, while Iran "will do quite well even under the embargo."

"All the present faithful customers to Iran oil are set to continue buying this oil, and they will find a way, rest assured," he said. "This is the signal I get from Tehran."

"I was personally present when the deputy economics minister of Iran was talking to a foreign society in Berlin," he added. "And the gentleman said very openly to the shocked audience 'OK. You don't want to buy our goods. Well, the Chinese do."

Many people now realise that the majority of our politicians are nothing more than puppets for the global Elite and big corporations like Big Pharma and Monsanto. It is also clear to many of us that the main stream media cannot be trusted. As our economy is being destroyed by design, our health is suffering due to the unhealthy food that is being pushed on us and we are having less and less say in the running of our own lives, the question is what can we do about it?

Mahatma Gandhi said: "Be the change you want to see in the world". To me this is the best way in which we can fight back against what is happening. We have to stop supporting these big corporations. Take Monsanto for example, we give them power by buying their products. While buying organic and non GM products might cost a bit more it would defiantly hurt Monsanto if the majority started boycotting their products. While I realise that money is tight for most people, is it not worthwhile spending that bit extra when it can not only help safeguard your family's future but also improve their health. If we cannot stop the likes of Monsanto getting a monopoly on the food we eat then that bit extra you have to pay to buy organic will seem like peanuts compared to what Monsanto will make us pay in both money and our health when they have that monopoly.

It is the same principle when you look at the amount of jobs that have been lost in our country because corporations find it cheaper to use sweatshops in poor countries. The question is have we really benefited from the use of sweatshops? While it helps corporations manufacture their products cheaply, on the other hand it damages the economy by taking away jobs from our own country. This has led to high unemployment figures and an increase in poverty. There is also the moral issue of whether it is right that these corporations are allowed make a profit on the backs of human suffering as is the case with those who have to endure working in these sweatshops.

What would happen if the majority started boycotting these corporations that use sweatshops? I am sure that once they realise that we are no longer putting up with their greed and immoral practices they would soon be forced to change the way they operate. It would also mean unfortunately that we would have to do without the designer gear and gadgets that many would not be willing to live without despite the grim future we are facing.

By changing the way we live and think we can make an impact on what's happening today. Everything that is happening today has happened because we have let it happen. Too many people live in ignorance happy to let others deal with the problems we are facing. While the majority continue to live in this manner things are only going to get worse. We cannot rely on our political system to fix the economy and all the other problems we are facing. But we can make a change through our own actions. By educating ourselves on what is healthy to eat instead of relying on what corporations and our government tell us, we can start to take control of our own lives. This can be achieved through visiting sites like natural news and by learning what really is going on in the food industry. By doing this I am sure that what you learn will not only shock and alarm you but also convince you to change your diet.

By supporting local organic farms and shops that supply organic products we can make sure that the likes of Monsanto will always have competition and we will have a choice in what we eat and a say in our own health.

It is also important to be educated on the real facts behind the pharmaceutical industry who are also trying to get rid of any competition. A recent leaked letter from a UK academic, Professor Elizabeth Williamson (a pharmacist from Reading University), to the UK Health Minister reveals how they are going about this. In the letter the academic complains that the UK medicines agency isn't cracking down on botanical food supplements. She appears to take the position of the large phytopharmaceutical companies who have got licenses and want competition from food supplements removed.

Because of the EU herb directive we have already seen many natural alternatives to prescription drugs being taken of the shelves in Europe due to safety concerns. Considering that about 10,000 people each year die in the UK from bad reactions to prescription drugs whereas very few have died from taking food supplements or herbal remedies, this makes no sense.

We are constantly fed disinformation so that these corporations and the people behind them can have total control over us. By seeing through their lies we can take the first steps to gaining back control of our lives.

Unfortunately while the majority still believe what they are told by the main stream media and our traitorous government things will only get worse. I believe real change is coming as more people are being forced to wake up to the truth, but the real question is how much more suffering will we have to endure before the majority decide that they have had enough?
