Back to that bit about Varys being correct. We have the unfortunate realization that our fiery female protagonist, built over the last seven years, is turned into a one-note antagonist with unearned ease.

It’s not great. Is this really what the Song of Fire and Ice has been about? Or did they just HBO the damn thing? With only one episode left, is the last conflict going to be to take down the Mad Queen?

“The Dragon and the Wolf” is everything we imagined it could be. Yet somewhere in the midst of Viserion’s magical blue fire destroying the wall and the Night King playing jockey, it felt like it sold its soul to convenience and a Disney score.

All is not a soul-crushing Lannister make-out session, we still get a (convenient) Tyrion and Jaime reunion. The two negotiated an armistice, because of course they did.

Politically due North, Littlefinger is playing our darling Arya like a fiddle. It’s sad really. The Stark girls don’t understand how much their own house means to one another. If they did, their alliance could be ice solid. Except, they don’t know what we know. It’s maddening.

What is also frustrating is how Samwell, our faithful informant at the Citadel, emotionally glazes over a High Septon’s diary entry about performing an annulment for Rhaegar, and marrying him to someone else at the same time in a secret ceremony in Dorne. You guys. This means Lyanna and Rhaegar were wed. Jon Snow is legitimate AF.

Wut?

That’s the Song of Fire and Ice’s version of Jesus that is going to send the Night King and his army of the dead to somewhere very, very warm. This is huge in the theory land of book fandom, like R+L = J big. At some point soon, Dany and John will meet. Fangirl hearts are pitter pattering everywhere, this episode of the podcast included.

Just as high as the episode takes us, it also thoroughly grosses us out. Thanks again Citadel and your witchy ways. Then when you think you’re going to vomit, it washes you over with joy and sorrow when we see Nymeria again. Yes. That’s her.

We frequently imagine that we have somehow built up a tolerance to the reckless highs and lows to Game of Thrones, and that’s the narrative’s magic if there ever was one – because we haven’t.

In an exquisitely orchestrated series of unexpected events, we are left sated and curious. Who knew Game of Thrones could still surprise us? And even after reading fan theory upon fan theory, (sound, thorough theories) the show still managed to take us into uncharted territory while confirming the most popular GoT theory of all… R+L=J.

I think we all knew that to be true, but it certainly feels validating to see it on screen. A Song of Fire and Ice surely has more than one meaning, but the key players are Dany and Jon. Sidenote, baby Jon is just as brooding as resurrected Jon. Cute.

Jon’s parentage is an important reveal, but the true twist of the episode is the face-off at Riverrun as Arya Stark fed Walder Frey his sons, looked him square in his dispicable face, and killed him exactly how her mother was killed. And then she smiled.

I am forced to face the reality that Lady Stoneheart was a heavy-handed Red Herring that gave us her psychopath second daughter to exact the revenge we know is due. I didn’t expect it, but I am at peace with that turn of events. I have long-loved Arya, and this feels good. That does not make me any less wrong. So, you know what that means, right?

Yeah, I sing Justin Bieber on this episode because watching Firefly would have been way harder. I am sorry. Listeners of past episodes understand why this had to happen.

Beyond the giant elephants of Jon and Arya, the finale served up…

I did finally get to watch the episode at about midnight, and OMFG!

Historically, Game of Thrones saves the best bits of its seasons for last. In this case, the creators of the show outdid themselves. Battle of the Bastards may be the most well-crafted episode of the series to date. I was blown away.

• There is some serious lady power on the rise: Dany, Yara and Sansa are on FIRE! • Who else is shipping Dany and Yara, btw? • Can we talk about Lady Mormont’s exquisite resting bitch face? • Poor Davos • Tormund and Smalljon, though • Piles and piles of bodies • Jon Snow is a killing machine • Ramsay does one, last incredibly shitty thing • Sansa’s smile made it all worth it

There is only one thing that could make this season better, and her name is Lady Stoneheart. Let’s all pray to the Seven Gods and the Lord of Light for her ghastly reveal in the season finale or else I might actually quit the show.

OK. Maybe I won’t quit the show, but there better not be any wildfire laying around if she doesn’t show up. #burnthemall

Last night’s Game of Thrones episode – entitled, “No One” – did little by way of providing many surprises, but did do a lot to delight fans.

After the awful and hate-inducing fifth season, which was spoiled by — in descending order of offensiveness — misogyny, nihilism and brooding, this season (so far) has been largely about making the show actually fun to watch again.

Go figure.

The sins of the past are not yet forgiven, but “No One” was another step in the right direction, as we see:

• The triumphant return of Daenerys and Drogon…and in just the nick of time
• Arya regain her name, identity an purpose
• The Faith lose their heads…literally
• The Hound get revenge for losing his bestie
• Tyrion launches a new comedy troupe with Grey Worm and Missandei

Of course most of the season has been leading up to the main event, which will be next week’s episode – appropriately nicknamed “The Bastard Bowl” – in which we’ll finally see Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton face off over the fate of Winterfell.

With only 2 episodes remaining in Season 6, the weekly podcast crew of Dana, Vanessa and Peter return to wax poetic on all things Game of Thrones.

Well, it was bound to happen. In a fast-paced season in which we’ve enjoyed some incredibly satisfying episodes, we were given a slower and somewhat lighter episode of Game of Thronesthis week with, “The Broken Man.”

Not to say that Arya getting her stomach aerated and the Hound returning from the “dead” weren’t notable, it’s just that comparatively speaking there just wasn’t a lot of story movement this week.

We were introduced to some compelling new characters – and had one of them taken away almost as quickly as they were introduced. Jon builds an army. Cersei get’s dissed, hard, and Sansa has to ask for help from the one person she doesn’t want to.

I’m a bit under the weather this week, so I’ll leave all of the fascinating discussion of “The Broken Man” episode to the podcast, as we continue to dissect every Game of Thrones episode this season within moments of their airing, including comparison to the books, online fan theories, and our own speculation about where the season is headed.

For a Game of Thrones episode titled “Blood of My Blood,” there was surprisingly little blood.

We saw the return of Benjen Stark (aka: Cold Hands), and caught a glimpse of the Mad King’s death. We also witnessed some sneaky political maneuvers by the High Sparrow, who seemingly check-mated the Lannisters and Tyrells.

Arya Stark remembers her name – and where she buried her sword, Needle; and we meet Samwell Tarly’s dad, who won’t be winning any “Father of the Year” awards anytime soon.

“Oh, and have you met my dragon?” – Daenerys to the Dothraki

“Blood Of My Blood” represents a number of turning points for the season – especially for Dany and Bran – as we begin to step into new and uncharted territory for the series.

The Game of Thrones podcast crew of Dana, Vanessa and Peter dig deep into the fan theories that turned out to be true, and speculate about where the remainder of Season 6 is heading.

The first three episodes of this season may have focused on ice, but tonight we saw the return ofFIRE in a big way.

So far season 6 has been rather uplifting – relatively speaking – after the joyless black pit that was season 5, and there’s no better example of that then this week’s episode. Daenerys had another showstopping moment this week; plus we finally get a Stark family reunion that many fans have been waiting for since Season 1.

We see Sansa reunited with Jon; Theon rejoined with Yara; Margaery consoles Loras; Jorah and Daario find Dany, and even Cersei is (seemingly) joining forces with Lady Olenna.

According to Dayne, he was instructed by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen (Daenerys and Viserys’ older brother) to guard the tower, where Ned suspects his sister Lyanna is being held after Rhaegar kidnapped her and incited the rebellion that eventually saw the Targaryen dynasty removed from power and Robert Baratheon installed on the Iron Throne.

What relevance does this have to Jon Snow’s parentage? Feel free to fall down that rabbit hole of speculation here — but it’s discussed in detail on the podcast that after Lyanna’s death and Robert’s victory, Ned returned home to Winterfell (and his new wife Catelyn) with a bastard son, but refused to tell anyone the identity of Jon’s mother.

Stimulated Boredom is back! With the move to Washington DC under our belts, the show gets back into the swing of things by discussing the best ways to increase your social network, influence and footprint.

After 8 years of producing and growing a podcast, I have learned a lot of lessons along the way on how to use social media to your benefit; regardless if you are a company, blogger, podcaster or simply someone who has something to say.

Many people over the years have asked me to discuss how I grew Stimulated Boredom over the years to the point of attracting thousands of followers, fans and subscribers. It was difficult – with a lot of mistakes made along the way – in addition to the necessity of adapting to a constantly evolving social landscape.

In this 2.5 hour show, I lay out my philosophy on the best ways to improve the reach and influence of your social network, while creating and sharing content that connects and is ‘shareable.’ I also plan to follow up this general discussion, with a series that focuses more closely on specific tips, tricks and tools.

You don’t have to be a celebrity or a huge corporation to get noticed…you just have to have something to say and a way to say it that gets your head above the crowd.

Synopsis: Stimulated Boredom is moving to Washington DC! In this brief update, I announce some exciting news and how it will affect the podcast over the course of the next few weeks.

The show moves closer to the belly of the beast! We are very excited about this change and have a LOT to do over the next couple of weeks, therefore Stimulated Boredom will be taking a brief hiatus as we get packed, moved and settled into our new DC digs. :)

I appreciate your patience during this time and am anticipating that I should be able to get back on the mic by the 2nd or 3rd week of December.

Four More Years.

Week of: November 12 – November 19, 2012

Synopsis: The election is over, President Obama has won a second term and it’s time for a little post-election analysis; including what the next four years may look like and the impending fiscal cliff.

That’s it folks! After a year of campaigning, kissing babies, shaking hands, a billion dollars in ads spent, countless stump speeches and a race dubbed ‘one of the closest in recent history,’ it was over much faster than the pundits predicted and was a resounding electoral victory for the President.

But what happened? Why were the polls and talking heads so off? Where did the GOP go wrong against an incumbent they swore was so beatable? And how has the country’s demographics shifted in such a way that the White House may effectively end up outside of the Republican party’s reach for a long time unless they adapt and become more inclusive?

This week’s show is all about the election and what challenges the President may face in the upcoming fours years; in addition to what the Republican party may need to do in order to stay relevant in a country with changing demographics and a more progressive attitude towards social, ethnic & gender issues.

Week of: October 22 – October 29, 2012

Synopsis: As we head into the final days of the election, I respond to listener questions relating to exactly what the Electoral College is, its history and how it works, what makes a “battleground state” and a wrap-up of the week in election news.

Due to what appears to be a close race, there has been a lot of talk this election cycle of the Electoral College and the math involved in coming up with a strategy that leads to 270 electoral votes…the majority required to win the Presidency. But what exactly is the Electoral College and how does it work? Why was it created in the first place and why is it still used today? Why doesn’t popular vote determine the winner of Presidential elections?

I’ve covered this topic numerous times on past shows during previous election years and decided to re-visit it due to the emails and questions that I have been receiving, asking me to answer the questions listed above. I also delve into the strategy that each party pursues to achieve electoral victory and what the electoral map is showing as we head into November 6th.

Week of: October 22 – October 29, 2012

Synopsis: A different President Obama showed up to the 2nd debate and Mitt Romney gives birth to another meme. Patrick joins me as we discuss confusing polls, the best moments of the debate and other politicking.

At the 2nd Presidential debate, a significantly more assertive (and awake) president Obama showed up and appeared to keep Mitt Romney on his heels for the duration of the evening…leading to some memorable moments and an opponent who was consistently kept on defense and who repeatedly needed to cede his time (that was supposed to be spent answering audience questions) responding to an Obama that was clearly on offense.

I am joined by Patrick, as we dissect the debate and some of the more interesting exchanges. We also break down some confusing and inconsistent polling on a micro level, in order to shed some light on why some of the battleground states have consistently remained in the President’s column and why Romney has not be able to break through in some of them.

This week we put on our politico hats and give an honest assessment of this year’s election, why polls may be irrelevant (regardless of who they favor), how women may determine the outcome and how the elections in this country have changed…mostly for the worse.

A lot of interesting topics are covered in this nearly 3-hour conversation and we think you will walk away with more than a few new things to consider.

Week of: October 15 – October 22, 2012

Coming on the heels of a strong and unexpected Romney performance in last week’s first debate against the President, additional pressure was on Vice President Joe Biden to deliver a performance that will either slow down or completely stop Romney’s recent momentum. Did he succeed?

Before the VP debate, I posted an article in which I discussed the Top 10 things that people should expect from the first and only sparring between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan. In this week’s show, I break down many of those points and which ones were fulfilled, in addition to the effect that it may have heading into the 2nd Presidential debate next Tuesday in New York.

In front of an estimated audience of over 51 million people, was Biden able to slow or even stop Romney’s momentum? Did Paul Ryan hurt or help the campaign? What were some of the more memorable exchanges of the evening? All of these questions are answered, in addition to a little fact-checking in this post-debate wrap-up.

Week of: October 8 – October 15, 2012

The first Presidential Debate has come and gone, and it’s time for a little ‘post-game’ wrap-up relating to the candidates’ performance, whether there will be any change in the polls and some fact-checking.

Recently I posted an article in which I discussed the likely strategy of both candidates coming into the debate. All in all, my predictions for how Mitt Romney and President Obama would approach the debate was accurate…with the important difference that Romney over-performed, while the President drastically under-performed, resulting in a clear victory for Mitt.

However, although Romney won stylistically, my biggest issues were with the grossly negligent moderator of the debate, Jim Lehrer, and the fact that President Obama never unleashed any of the many offensive weapons against his opponent that Romney essentially handed to him on a silver platter that night and over the last few months…a decision that is still beyond my comprehension. The President played defense to a fault – opting instead to ‘stay above the fray’ – and never challenged the monumental amount of contradictory and inaccurate statements made by his opponent.

But will Romney’s performance move the needle and reverse the downward trajectory of his campaign with only 5 weeks until the election? Will the polls hold or see a shift in the all-important battleground states and with the sliver of undecided voters who remain? Traditionally the polls heading into the debates end up being the same as on election day, but was Romney’s performance strong enough to change that or will the President rise to the occasion in the 2 remaining debates?

The iPhone 5 is released with a new shade of lipstick and Mitt Romney thinks 47% of the country (which includes Grandma and active military personnel) are a bunch of freeloading bums and doesn’t want their vote.

This week saw the release of the iPhone 5 – as I share my opinion of Apple’s newest innovation – which offers BRAND NEW FEATURES…that every smartphone released in the last 2 years already had. I spend a few minutes trying to wrap my head around why people would choose a closed OS that tethers and makes them dependent upon one company’s digital ecosystem.

For the remainder of the program, I wax poetic on the horrific week that Mitt Romney enjoyed and share my opinion and insight on what the electoral landscape looks like heading into November. Can Romney rebound? Are there enough undecided voters left to close the gap in battleground states where the President leads? I also share the exact moment during election night that you should look for, in which I guarantee that you can turn to others in the room and confidently declare, “It’s over.”

This week I’m joined by resident geek girl, Vanessa G of Girls-Gone-Geek.com, as she discusses Dragon*Con and her first foray into the world of cosplay.

Ever wonder what possesses a person to dress up as their favorite movie, video game or comic book character? Ever wonder what it’s like to attend a comic book convention dressed as your favorite movie, video game or comic book character? Frequent SB guest and listener favorite, Vanessa Gabriel, did just that at this year’s Dragon*Con and was kind enough to share her first cosplay experience and what it was like to put her costume together, walk the floor and pose for pictures.

I’ve attended a couple of conventions myself and I greatly admire the time, effort and passion that people put into their costumes. Not only did Vanessa dress up, but she shares what it was like as a first-time cosplayer to be stopped by fans to take photos, the importance of practicing your hero poses in front of the mirror and why you should never wear anything made of polyurethane.

In this 2.5 hour discussion, we had a great time as Vanessa shared a ton of entertaining stories…including an embarrassing fangirl meltdown moment while meeting one of her favorite actors! As they say, “You never forget your first time.” :)

Actually, it’s my Mama!

This week I am joined by a very special guest…my mother. :)

Over the past 7+ years of the show, many of you have heard very personal stories about my life growing up, which was instrumental in the development of my world view, personality, humor and opinions. My wildly entertaining (and equally un-PC) Filipino mother had a lot to do with that.

We discuss her life in Manila, her experience as a teenage foreign exchange student in an American high school, her marriage to my father – including the subsequent divorce – and the effect it had on us and my siblings. We also discuss politics, religion, world history and a TON more! This 4 hour conversation taught me a few things that I never knew about her life and views on certain subjects, while also recounting many funny (and often times, embarrassing) stories. :) We have always been very open about discussing our lives, and this personal conversation between mother and son is just another example of that.

She has lived an extraordinary life and traveled the world many times over, so I thought it would be a good time to get her on the show…especially before the old bitch dies and perhaps give myself a chance to lobby for more shit in her will.

Week of: August 6 – August 13, 2012

God, Gays…and Chicken? This week I sink my teeth into the meaty controversy surrounding comments made by Chick-fil-A President, Dan Cathy, which re-ignited (yet another) public debate over the topic of gay marriage.

Social media exploded when Cathy told an online Southern Baptist publication that he and his family-owned restaurant chain are ‘‘guilty as charged’’ for openly — and financially — supporting groups that advocate for ‘‘the biblical definition of a family unit.’’ He later added that the United States is ‘‘inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.’’ However, he apparently has no problem with offering his own judgement on the subject of which citizens deserve equal rights under the law…and which do not.

So far the Weather Channel has not reported any recent storm activity fueled by the Wrath-of-God, but I’m keeping a look out…

Although Cathy has every right to express his opinion, the bigger problem lies in the fact that his company financially supports groups that actively seek to deny gay rights and promote intolerance; including “pray the gay away” camps and organizations that strive to prevent homosexuals from obtaining teaching positions or having any contact with children…for fear that their “deviant lifestyle” might rub off on them. Forgive me if some customers might have a problem with their money being spent in that manner.

At the heart of this week’s show, is the debate over whether the personal religious beliefs of an individual (or group of individuals) should apply to anyone other than themselves…especially those who may not share those beliefs. As usual, I have a strong opinion on the matter ;)

Now that the eagerly anticipated, “The Dark Knight Rises” has been released, I am joined by Erika Peterman from Girls-Gone-Geek.com as we review, discuss and dissect the film from beginning to end!

Kicking ass, taking names and making rainbows…

Prompted by a listener email, this week’s show revolves entirely around job hunting tips and how to increase your chances of landing the job that you want in a difficult economy.

Leah, a listener in Pennsylvania, wrote to me and described her frustration and fear relating to the current economy and the difficulty that she and her boyfriend have had in finding a job – despite their degrees and experience.

A few years ago, when the economy first started suffering, I covered this subject in length and have since had listeners request that I cover it again. My expertise in the matter is gleaned from many years of hiring, training and managing people through various careers that I have had, in which I have probably hired and managed (cumulatively) well over 1,000 people.

Also, as someone who lost a job a few years ago when the economy was at its worst, I can also speak from the perspective of someone who has looked for (and found) a great job in a very bad market.

All of this coupled together, has given me a perspective from both sides of the 'hiring line' and a strong understanding of the best practices for gaining an edge over other job candidates vying for the same position(s), including:

• * How to make your resume stand out on job search sites and in an interview
• * Best practices for aggressively and proactively gaining an edge over other applicants
• * Interview tips, including pre-interview preparation and questions to ask
• * Gain allies among people who work there, to increase your chances of hire

• * Other tips and tricks that I can’t think of as I type this sentence ;)

Week of: June 11 – June 18, 2012

This week’s discussion begins with the campaign fundraising results for May – including what Romney’s superior $77 million-dollar haul could signify – in addition to the infusion of corporate money (thanks to the ‘Citizens United’ Supreme Court decision) into our political process and how new media has made running for President a billion-dollar endeavor.

Next, it’s on to President Obama and how long he can keep blaming the economy he inherited from Bush, before he needs to wholly take responsibility for it. This discussion is coupled – as it relates to GOP opposition – with the difference between, ‘rooting for failure’ for political advantage…and actually helping to cause failure for the same reason.

With Romney essentially securing the Republican nomination, I pose my own questions to the former Governor that I would like the media to ask. Essentially demanding that he back up his repeated claims of knowing how to create jobs and grow the economy…in juxtaposition and reconciling those claims with his record as Governor, in which Massachusetts was 47th in the nation in job growth under his tenure…of which, he served only 1 term because he would be unable to win re-election.

I also challenge his assertion that his time at Bain Capital should be “off-limits” in the campaign…seeing how he claims that his business experience at Bain makes him “uniquely qualified” to be President.

Lastly, I respond to listener requests to discuss the (failed) results of the Wisconsin recall election of Governor Scott Walker. This includes my opinion of organized labor unions and what the recall election result could mean in the general election.

The topic of gay marriage made its way into the news again recently – conveniently during another election year – therefore I enlist the help of frequent guest-host, Patrick, as we discuss the subject within the context of equality, civil rights, religion and politics.

My opinion on the topic is well known by long time listeners of the program, however the debate has been renewed this week, prompted by a ban on same-sex marriage in North Carolina…where you can marry your cousin, just not your gay cousin.

In an election year, the reemergence of the gay marriage debate as a social wedge issue is as predictable as they come.

Also, spattered at the beginning and end of the program is a little tech-talk and gaming geekery. :)

My Jedi Shadow Brings All The Sith To The Yard

Week of: April 16 – April 23, 2012

I kick off this week’s program by briefly discussing my newest nerd obsession, “Star Wars: The Old Republic” (SWTOR) and my first experience with an MMORPG…n00b style. Is it worth trading an hour of sleep each night per level my character rises?

Moving on to the week in news, I discuss the burden and hardship that Ann Romney had to endure while raising 5 boys full-time with only a mere $250 million in the bank, nannies, personal assistants and custom car elevators.

As the general election heats up – and with Romney becoming the presumptive GOP nominee – the battle for female voters has taken center stage. With the President’s 20 point lead among women in battleground states, the GOP latch onto an unfortunate statement from a Democratic operative as their proof that the President is waging, “a War on Women” by using Multi-Millionaire stay-at-home-Mom, Ann Romney, as their expert (and martyr) on women’s issues in the workplace, apparently.

I’ll ask my single Mom who raised 4 children on her own – while working double-shifts 6 days a week at 2 hospitals – if she feels that Mrs. Romney speaks for and understands average Moms in the country.

Shake After Primary For New Principles, Stances & Opinions

Week of: March 26 – April 2, 2012

As if the title wasn’t self-explanatory enough. ;)

This week I dive into the hotly debated and controversial circumstances surrounding the Trayvon Martin shooting; including a timeline of the events and my opinion of the case. Should George Zimmerman be arrested…or is he protected under Florida’s, “Stand Your Ground” law? Was the shooting racially motivated? Were the Sanford police department woefully inept and negligent in their handling of the case?

(Show Note: I inadvertently kept referring to Trayvon Martin as Trayvon Walker.)

To round out the program, I address the latest gaffe from the Romney campaign…one that will likely define the candidate heading into the general election, much as “flip-flopper” plagued the candidacy of John Kerry. Will the comparison to an Etch-A-Sketch – made by Romney senior campaign adviser, Eric Fehrnstrom – further compound and symbolize the concerns about Mitt Romney, a man already heavily criticized for having fluid “principles” when it suits his political needs?

Since I was unable to record a new show the last 2 weeks, I decided to make it up to all of you with this 3-hour / ‘Super Sized’ edition of Stimulated Boredom (who loves ‘ya?).

This week I am joined by Patrick, who recently returned from SxSW, as he shares many of the panels he attended, the innovations introduced at the conference and the newest trends in film, social media, music and interactive design & gaming. Since I was unfortunately unable to attend, I was forced to live vicariously thorough hisexperience…while secretly resenting him for it. ;)

Lastly, we round out the program with some political discussion of many of the events that have occurred over the last couple of weeks. We tackle the Limbaugh/Fluke controversy, the prolonged Republican primary and what effect it may have on the eventual nominee, along with other predictions and opinions.

MegaCon 2012: Orlando, Florida

Recently I attended my very first comic book convention, replete with costume play (“cosplay”), panels and a packed convention floor filled with all kinds of geeky goodies.

Joining me to discuss MegaCon – which was held in Orlando – is Vanessa G from Girls-Gone-Geek.com, who also attended and would never miss the opportunity to discuss my experience as a comic convention virgin!

The GOP primaries begin to heat-up as Rick Santorum sweeps in a surprising 3-State victory and talk of a possible brokered convention (although still unlikely) takes on a more serious tone. Nothing says “lack of vision and focus” like having a different candidate win each primary. ;)

This week I also discuss much of the news over the past week, including President Obama’s misinformed and mistaken mandate that all religious organizations must make contraception available / accessible within their employees’ healthcare plan.

I disagree with any religious organization (Christian or otherwise) imposing it’s beliefs on government, as much as I am opposed to the government telling religious organizations (in this case, the Catholic Church) that they have to cover contraceptives for their employees.

Although the current argument is being politically spun (it is still an election year) to sound like the Church has to offer their congregations birth control pills during communion, when in reality it is geared towards other church-run organizations (like hospitals) and charities that employ many people who may not subscribe to a particular denomination’s dogma. So, I take a little time to fill in the blanks on this issue, as well as an update that the policy has recently – and already – been amended.

Despite my firm opposition to the original mandate, I do find it ADORABLE how the same people who are decrying government meddling in religion, are the same folks who advocate school prayer & teaching creationism in public schools, wanting to amend the Constitution to ban same-sex marriage and putting the Ten Commandments in Federal courthouses. But I digress…

Beyond that, I spend the majority of the program discussing the recent primary shake-up – including helping listeners to understand what a brokered convention is – and more predictions and speculation about how I see things developing during the nomination process and heading into the general election.

As President Obama delivers his 3rd State of the Union address before Congress – his last before the 2012 election – I offer up my thoughts on the over 6-pages of notes I took during the speech…I know, I have a problem and am (not) seeking help.

However, despite the soaring oratory and bi-partisan rhetoric, I offer an alternative intention to the speech and how it may lay the groundwork for the President’s entire re-election bid and how he plans to define the upcoming contest against whomever the GOP nominee will be.

Although the President’s bi-partisan message is welcome by the public, there has been nothing in the last 3 years that would indicate any shift in the current political environment…so what was the President really looking to accomplish?

It appears that the President has planted his flag firmly in the populist message and I break down how this may play in juxtaposition to his likely opponent(s)…putting on my strategist’s hat, yet again.

This week I put on my “strategist’s hat” and discuss the aftermath of the Iowa caucus, Romney’s narrow victory, Santorum’s last minute surge and my predictions for the upcoming New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries.

This is the part of politics that I enjoy, working the numbers and determining my predictions for what people can expect and should look out for in the coming weeks. What does Santorum’s surprisingly strong finish (ostensibly tying Romney) mean? How long will the RNC allow the nomination process to remain contested before they step in? Is Mitt Romney’s nomination inevitable or is there still a window for a conservative alternative…and who could that realistically be? Who does the Obama team want (and not want) to run against? Is there still a path for Jon Huntsman and did Obama appoint him as Ambassador to China as a way to remove a potential (and viable) political rival in 2012? Is the continued candidacy of others in the field – and the subsequent splitting of conservative votes – nothing more than an advantage for Romney in the long-run?

This week’s show is definitely for my fellow politicos out there, as well as those who wish to gain a better understanding of the primary process and how the different campaigns think | work.

I also answer some listener email, discuss the pros and cons of a third party candidate and Obama’s recent recess appointment of Richard Cordray as the head of the newly formed, Consumer Financial Protection Board…a move heshould have done with Elizabeth Warren and ultimately bowed to pressure on.

I really enjoyed this week’s discussion and hope that listeners will come away with something new to consider and debate for themselves.

After nearly a decade, 800+ billion dollars spent and over 4,000 American deaths, the War in Iraq is finally coming to end. As the December 31st deadline looms for all American troops to withdraw from Iraq, I discuss the impact that the war has had on American credibility and the importance of holding publicly elected officials accountable for what they commit our men and women of the military to.

It is no secret that I strongly feel that the Iraq War was a mistake and that, of all the reasons we were given for the need to invade, not one of them turned out to be true. As a result, the rationale for continuing the conflict evolved from WMD and a connection to Al-Qaeda | 9/11…to “purple fingers,” imposed democracy and Nation building. Regardless of how you feel, the American people would have never condoned the invasion had the latter reasoning been provided. The deposing of Saddam Hussein came at the cost of American credibility, not to mention billions of dollars and thousands of lives.

This subject had been a staple of the program for years, so I wanted to discuss it now that it is finally coming to an end. Unfortunately, my cold medicine may have made me a little “unfocused,” so I appreciate your indulgence during any rambling sections. :) I also referenced my previous “Head Like A Hole” segment, which delves into considerable detail, should listeners be interested in hearing it again.

The remainder of the show (of course) revolves around developments in the Republican primaries and whether Newt Gingrich stands a chance to win the nomination, in addition to which candidates I think have a chance of being competitive in a general election. Republican members of Congress have publicly announced that they will not support Gingrich…I also discuss their reasons.

Week of: Nov 21 – Nov 28, 2011

Had a lot to talk about this week; so much so that I needed to break it up into 2 segments!

In this week’s (over 2 hour) main segment, I delve into the many gaffes and the constantly rotating Poll-Merry-Go-Round that is the GOP field of Presidential candidates. To help illustrate my point, I incorporated some audio montages of a few personal favorites, while detailing my belief as to why the majority of them could never be considered serious candidates in a General election…but perhaps just fun to “flirt” with in the primaries, before voters grow up and pick someone who actually has a reasonable chance of winning.

I fully admit that I have a little fun at the expense of the likes of Cain, Perry, Gingrich, Romney and the (irrelevant) others…but they make is so damn easy considering their history of comments, contradictions, flubs and flip flops.

I also discuss how I see the most qualified candidate – Jon Huntsman – getting the nomination. It is unlikely, but I do see a path.

Lastly, I share my opinions of the Penn State scandal, including audio from Jerry Sandusky’s (strange & creepy) interview with Bob Costas.

Many of you may have already read my comprehensive breakdown and first impressions of the Kindle Fire when it was first announced back in September. Well, the day has finally arrived and I now have the shiny new device in my hands!

I’ve spent the last week with the Kindle Fire – primarily enjoying my new toy – but also prepping for a video review that I plan to do on the device in the next week or so for the benefit of the listeners. As a result, I have become quite familiar with the Fire and thought I would share many of my thoughts, initial impressions and helpful tips that I have discovered along the way.

Is it an “iPad killer?” Does it perform as advertised? What are its advantages and limitations? Is it a tablet or an e-reader on steroids? How do I work this damn thing?! All of these questions and more are answered in this 1.5 hour segment!

I tried to cover a little of everything, for the benefit of those who already have the Fire and for those who are contemplating whether or not to purchase it. I’ve been away for the last couple of weeks, so I decided to just jump right in!

This week’s discussion includes reports of GOP front-runner, Herman Cain, wanting to deliver his “meatlover’s pizza” to a couple of former female employees and Cain’s astounding inability to get his story straight relating to multiple sexual harassment claims filed against him in the late 90′s. Although the Cain Campaign was given ample notice (10 days) of the impending breaking story, they still managed to issue contradictory and confusing statements on the matter, further worsening the issue and keeping the story alive for far longer than they would have liked.

Was Cain’s candidacy ever intended to be serious or was it always simply just a ploy to raise his national profile…and with it, increased speaking fees and sales of his book? Did his recent front-runner status come as much of a surprise to his campaign as it appears to be to every one else? Does he have a viable chance to win the GOP nomination…and if so, eventually the Presidency?

Next, I discuss and play Rick Perry’s odd speech in New Hampshire. For a campaign that has already crash-and-burned in record time, how does this recent episode affect his chances? Will it be considered Perry’s “Dean scream” moment?

I also ponder the question of how Mitt Romney will fare in the end, considering the repeated Republican desire and call for an alternative to him…illustrated by the multiple “anybody but Romney” GOP candidates who have risen and crashed in the polls. How do Republicans expect the rest of the country to get excited by him, when his own party isn’t?

The rest of the show revolves around the remainder of the GOP field, my predictions for the primaries, the only Republican candidate I would consider voting for (and how I see him getting the nomination) and the state of 2012 election politics.

For tech fans of the show (pls see: “geeks“…don’t worry, I’m one of you), we have put together a whopper of a program (over 2.5 hrs) for you this week!

With the tragic passing of Apple icon, Steve Jobs, I am joined by guest host Patrick as we delve into Jobs’ legacy and his influence over the computer industry, pop-culture, technology and the world.

We begin with a biographical overview of Jobs’ life and subsequent rise in the world of personal computing; from his own roots as an adopted child, to the birth of the Apple I & Apple II, the first Macintosh, his time at Pixar / Disney, NeXT Computers and finally back at Apple again. We attempt to measure his influence over the world and of the many advances that can be traced back to his innovation and creativity.

Undoubtedly, Jobs was a visionary who was ahead of his time. He had an uncanny ability to know what people wanted, before they knew they wanted it – and, as a result – charted a course that the rest of us had no choice but to follow. The first half of this week’s show is dedicated to his life, accomplishments and inventions.

The second half of the show focuses, ironically enough, on a device that was arguably influenced by one of Jobs’ own devices. Amazon recently announced their newest tablet, The Kindle Fire.

Touted as the likely (and most well-positioned) competitor to the iPad, the Kindle Fire is already on track to be the fastest selling tablet launch in history. However, as two people who own both the iPad and have pre-ordered the Kindle Fire, Patrick & I discuss how the Fire may not be the “iPad killer” that people speculate it could be, but rather something entirely different and even more impressive.

Part of the fun each week is figuring out why a segment earned its title. ;)

In this week’s show, I ended up falling into an overall stream of consciousness that covered everything from the President’s address to Congress and details relating to the American Jobs Act, to the struggling economy and how our politics is only making it worse.

To kick the show off, I continue to (shamelessly) indulge my love of my Alma Mater, Florida State, and do a quick re-cap of their highly anticipated rematch against #1 Oklahoma. I was there – losing my voice in the process – and briefly recount the experience…now that I am finally off of Suicide Watch.

Since I took last week off to attend the game, I continue the discussion with an update to some of the events that occurred in my absence. As is usually the case, the remainder of the program succumbs to my tangential stream of thought: The President’s address to a Joint Session of Congress, the American Jobs Act and what it entails, the politics of a struggling economy, a personal story relating to my own bout with the negative effects of the economy, the Republican debates and a lot more.

This segment transitions into a wider question: Who really has a chance to beat Obama? As an independent supporter of Obama in the 2008 election, I discuss the one GOP candidate who could attract independents like me, while still securing their base. Although sound bites and criticisms are great "red meat" for primary voters, a serious candidate for President also has to appeal to a much wider audience that has grown extremely weary of partisanship and want to hear valid and substantial solutions for our problems...whether from Obama or those who wish to replace him. 

Will the GOP nominate the one candidate they have that has an even remote chance of doing this? All indications point to no. A difficult economy does offer Republicans a real opportunity to potentially win back the White House, but will it be squandered on advancing an un-electable alternative?

I discuss this and a lot more this week. But first, I selfishly indulge my love of college football, as I discuss my beloved Seminoles chances for a National Championship run and how I see them achieving it!

I was away the last couple of weeks due to some travel (sorry about that), however I am back and I brought reinforcements! This week I am joined by listener favorite, Patrick, as we discuss the week in politics and news. 

First, the college football season is almost upon us, so you'll have to forgive our indulgence in starting the show off by discussing our Alma Mater's #5 Preseason ranking and how we see the season shaping up for our beloved 'Noles. However, we quickly segue into the result of the cantankerous debt ceiling debate and our (strong) opinions of the behavior of both sides of the isle. Did Obama fold? Was the Tea Party to blame for bringing it down to the wire? Will we ever see an end to the partisanship in favor of doing what's best for the country (and not party)? Is the combative nature of both parties going to blow up in their faces as the public grows weary of Congress's behavior and inability to work together?

Consider this segment "Part 2" of the "Raise the Roof" segment I recently did that provided all of the information you needed to know about the debt ceiling debate, and as a follow up discussion of the results. We break down the spin, common myths and talking points relating to the issue...most of which you have undoubtedly seen posted by your friends (of either political persuasion) on Facebook and Twitter. 

We then transition into the downgrade of the U.S. credit rating and how it will affect markets and the economy. After being dropped from our AAA rating, despite the last minute agreement to raise the debt ceiling, essentially making all of the childish behavior of Congress over the last few months a moot point.

So much was discussed during this segment, that it is hard for me to sum everything up...so sit back and take a listen and we'll take care of the rest.

The intention of this week's show is to help listeners better understand the complexity of the issue, so I took considerable time researching and organizing the information and eventually came up with a series of questions (and answers) that I felt best addressed the debate. This also includes the different proposals being advanced (their pros, cons and chance of passage) and of course, the politics and posturing surrounding it.

This week I wanted to take some time to discuss the history of the shuttle program, from its beginnings (as an idea) in the late 60's...all the way up to it's conclusion in 2011.  

What was the program initially intended to do? What were some of the early designs? How long were the shuttles intended to last? What obstacles did NASA face in its development? And of course, what tragedies had befallen the program over the years? This discussion primarily centers on the beginnings of the program and how it got started...moving from the Mercury and Apollo capsules, to the vehicle that many of us have associated with U.S. space travel for 30 years and was the only one of its kind in the world.   

As a young boy - I was 6 at the time of the first launch - I marveled at the Space Shuttle and the possibilities that it seemed to present...igniting my interest in science, space and understanding the universe. I used to stare at the shuttle poster on my wall and build models of it; my interest never waning as it has for many over the years. 

So this week's show is dedicated to my fellow "space nerds" and the iconic shuttle fleet, as I lament its retirement and the fact that we do not currently have a new program to takes its place...yet.

I have been friends with both Vanessa and Erika for a while now, enjoy their site and thought it would be fun to give their first (and great!) attempt at a podcast some exposure to the SB listeners from around the World. In my opinion, it's about time they put one together. :)

Due to the 'Fourth of July' holiday, I decided to bust out an older segment (with an updated intro) that I had recorded back in July of 2008, in which I did a historical discussion of the "Declaration of Independence" and the causes | reasons leading up to our desire to separate from England to form a new nation. 

I'm not sure if playing an older segment makes me extremely lazy or extremely efficient (I prefer the latter), but seeing how our history as a new nation does not change, the information and discussion is just as relevant today as it was 3 years ago...without me having to record it a second time. ;)

Also, seeing how this segment from the archives is no longer available on-demand, it will be the first time hearing it for any listeners who have discovered the show in the last few years.

Don't worry, you didn't accidentally stumble into the Anti-PETA | NAMBLA Podcast, as always the title of the show will make sense once you listen to the segment. 

This week I primarily cover the Republican Debate in New Hampshire, of which was the first debate in which presumptive front-runner - Mitt Romney - attended. 

Who came out ahead? Who hurt / helped themselves? What exchanges, questions and responses stood out? Who has the best chance of being (realistically) competitive against President Obama in the 2012 Election? Was it simply an Obama-Bash-Fest or did any of the candidates actually have detailed and substantive ideas / solutions? Has anyone presented themselves as a viable alternative to Romney...and what about the attempted recruitment of Perry, Christie or Ryan and how does this discontentment with the current field affect the GOP's chances? 

I provide my opinion (as always) on all of these questions and more, as I continue to dissect the Republican field of candidates and what I foresee in the coming year's primaries. This discussion is an extension of last week's program ("Have You Seen My Wiener?"), now that the candidates have had an opportunity to "debate" their differences.

Are you surprised? Of course not, that is why the first topic of discussion this week revolves around "Wiener-Gate." As more women come forward with inappropriate images of Rep. Weiner's...ahem, wiener...in addition to racy emails & messages, I spend a little time not necessarily covering the events of the past two weeks, but more about my reasons for why he should step down. This includes my criticism of liberal blogs and pundits who use examples of Republican scandals as some form of justification for absolving Rep. Weiner of wrongdoing and - therefore - why he should stay.

While we're at it, let's throw in some Republican political hypocrisy as it relates to their contradictory reaction to Rep. Weiner's actions in juxtaposition to their reaction to GOP sex scandals. I'm nothing, if not an equal opportunity offender. :)

The conversation transitions into my own personal politics, as I think it is very helpful in providing important context to the political opinions you hear on the show each week.

The remainder of the show includes some in-depth analysis (and personal opinion) of the 2012 election and the pros and cons of the current Republican field of candidates...one of the weakest I have seen in a long time, however there are a couple candidates that I feel can be competitive and I explain why. 

Included: Why are Romney and Huntsman skipping the Iowa primary and what is the strategy? What does this mean for the more socially conservative candidates hoping a win in Iowa will catapult them into front-runner status in New Hampshire? Newt Gingrich's campaign manager and senior staff quit...why and what does that mean for his campaign? Who really has a shot? What about candidates being recruited to run, like Perry, Christie and Paul...how does that diminish the GOP's chances? And a lot more that you will not want to miss as we get closer to election season.

Lastly, what can I say about Sarah Palin? Listening to her discuss American history, reminds me of when Thomas Jefferson fought for Civil Rights during WWII, before FDR landed on the moon, in order to prevent Attila the Hun from taking away our guns. You didn't really think I would let her comments and historical (mis)understanding about what the Statue of Liberty represents and Paul Revere's bell-clanging-rootin'-tootin'-shootin' ride to warn the British slip by without notice, did 'ya?

The topic of conversation was on the issue of consumerism and its effect on society, the environment and personal identity...a subject (remarkably) I had never really covered in over 6 years of doing the program and one that encompasses a HUGE scope of interesting issues to consider. 

The purpose of the conversation was not to come to any kind of solution or resolution - nor is it meant as a repudiation of capitalism or a consumer based society - but rather an attempt to bring awareness to how much we consume and how often people define themselves (and the perception that others have of us), by what we buy, drive, desire to own or even eat. 

The conversation transitions between such issues as marketing to children, planned & perceived obsolescence, consumer confidence (and its effect on the economy), supply & demand, "buying" a lifestyle and environmental impact. 

I know it sounds "heavy-handed", but the discussion is as accessible (and I would imagine, identical) to the same conversation you might have with friends or family. We had a blast diving into this topic and I think you will come away with a ton of opinions and information to consider for yourselves, as well as being entertained along the way. 

Finally, we round out the show on a lighter (and geekier) note with Vanessa's area of expertise and passion - comic books! For those in the "know", DC Comics announced some pretty big news that is intended to attract a whole new audience to its stable of superheroes and characters, while at the same time continue to be true to its lifelong collectors and fans. We discuss the announcement and what it will mean to the industry, along with new and old fans alike.

Due to the astounding news of Osama bin Laden’s capture and death, I decided to record a special mid-week segment to provide a comprehensive, informative and entertaining discussion, with guest host Patrick, about the death of bin Laden, the operation that nabbed him, historical context, the politics, ideology and conspiracies surrounding the event.

This 3-hour discussion will likely be one of the more all-encompassing segments that you will hear on the subject matter, as we cover the details relating to the: News, Raid, History, Ideology, Politics and Conspiracies (in that order) of bin Laden from his earliest days, through the Soviet/Afghan war, 9/11 and the decade that followed leading up to his death.

This segment seeks to educate, inform, entertain and provide accurate context to everything surrounding the man, what we were told after 9/11, his effect on American politics and what his death will likely mean for Al Qaeda and terrorism as a tactic.

Does this mean the end of terrorism? When did his hatred of the West foment and why? What will his death do to radical Islamists? How many attacks were attributed to him? What do we do about Pakistan? Should Obama have released his photos? Why the quick burial at sea? Etc etc etc.

Some big news to kick off the show, as we discuss the recent release of President Obama’s long-form birth certificate and whether this will finally appease and silence the ridiculous “birther” movement.

Should Obama have released it? What effect might this have on the political discourse, emerging 2012 GOP candidates and the election landscape?

And of course, no “birther” discussion would be complete without mentioning Donald Trump and his monumental ego. We spend a considerable amount of time dissecting Trump’s motives, whether he will run, recent statements (including his Tourette’s afflicted speech in Vegas…which was very “Presidential”), whether he will release his tax records as promised, his new line of attacks on the President, his uncanny ability to pull bullshit out of his ass and the people who support him.

Next, we move on to Paul Ryan’s budget and the flack GOP candidates who support it are receiving in town hall meetings at home.

Does it gut Medicare? How might support for Ryan’s budget backfire? Is giving grandma a $15k healthcare “coupon” an effective measure? Will it actually reduce the deficit? How is the tone different than the town halls meetings during the Healthcare Reform debate?

Lastly, we completely change gears and talk about the recent PSN security breach and shutdown of Sony’s servers due to hackers…which affects over 77 million users / gamers around the world. Is your information safe? What happened? What backlash is Sony experiencing? When will the PSN be back up? What precautions can you take when it does?

How similar / different was this battle from the shutdown that occurred in 1995? I also focus on the gross mischaracterization (as framed by the GOP) of Planned Parenthood and the preventative health services that they provide, and my issue with trying to force ideological issues (on either side of the isle) by way of dangling the federal budget as a carrot.

The discussion turns to tax cuts, spending, the economy, our national debt and the current budget deficit.

Next, I give my assessment of the likely field of potential GOP candidates and some of the obstacles that I can foresee. With Gingrich, Palin, Trump, Santorum, Bachmann etc all completely sucking the air out of the room (and news cycle) for the more serious candidates, it is becoming increasingly more difficult for those who actually have a chance, to gain any traction amidst the noise. 

No serious GOP candidate (Romney, Huntsman) can embrace the Tea Party or the “birther” movement. Therefore, for the ones that do, they accomplish nothing more than splitting the primary votes / support and weakening the GOP’s chances of selecting a competitive candidate in 2012. Is the fact that there is no truly interesting and exciting candidate the reason that the likes of Donald Trump is able to garner attention…and is he really running or just using this as a self-aggrandizing marketing stunt for his TV show?  

Side Note: I intended to record a second segment this week, but realized I had essentially covered most of what I wanted to discuss and would have just babbled on for another hour…and nobody wants that. ;)

Libya: Is the U.S. engaging in third conflict in the Middle East? Did Obama require Congressional approval before launching Cruise missiles into the country? What is the "mission", end-game and role of the U.S. and NATO allies in enforcing the no-fly zone? Is it possible to support the fall of Gaddafi, yet not have to commit long-term to the potential aftermath of a country without leadership and/or prolonged nation-building to fill any vacuum left by Gaddafi’s overthrow? We attempt to bring light to the events in Libya and what we view as the major issues facing U.S. involvement.

Obama’s Birth Certificate: Can we finally put this ridiculous narrative to bed? In this portion of the segment, we discuss the overwhelming evidence of Obama’s citizenship and birth in Hawaii, and why those who perpetuate this story are grasping at pathetic straws due to the lack of any other substantive or real argument about the man and his policies. We also address the issue of the GOP’s obsession with Obama’s father and his supposed “influence” on the President’s world-view.

Politics: We round out the segment with some 2012 Presidential election discussion and what we see as the issues facing the incumbent President, in addition to the issues facing the GOP and their split allegiances between the traditional conservative voters and the nonsensical rhetoric of the Tea Party. Can the GOP win by hugging the fence between “birthers” and the more moderate conservative and independent voters? Is it possible to be considered a serious candidate, while embracing the rhetoric of the far-right / Tea Party?

From a horrifying 9.0 earthquake, followed by a devastating tsunami, tremendous loss of life and now the desperate scramble to bring a potential nuclear disaster under control.

The story of the tsunami has unfortunately been overshadowed by the ongoing efforts to contain the failing nuclear reactors and spent fuel rods in storage at the Fukashima Daiichi plant. In my efforts to help to bring some understanding to what is occurring at the plant, the risks and potential solutions...I spend time explaining how nuclear power works, the fuel rods contained within the reactors and what challenges the workers at the plant are facing in trying to bring it under control.

This segment also covers humanitarian efforts, additional challenges of the Japanese government dealing with those who were displaced by the tragedy, the issue of nuclear power and much more in an attempt to bring awareness and insight into the current events in Japan.

In the second segment of this week's show...well, quite frankly, I'm all over the place...as I discuss some of the most recent news that occurred / caught my attention since the last new show, trying to squeeze my opinion of all of it into one segment!

I start with recent comments made by Mike Huckabee, as a result of his 'not so subtle' tip of the hat to the Tea Party crowd and perhaps the beginning of some preliminary 2012 election rhetoric. As a result, I dissect his remarks, their intent (in my opinion) and set the record straight as it pertains to the GOP's incessant focus and intentional misleading narrative about President Obama's father and upbringing.

Next up is a little pre-election discussion of possible scenarios that I see materializing; including Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Mitch Edwards, and Haley Barbour et al...and why Democrats are so bad at politics.

The segment is rounded out with commentary on Peter King's "Muslim Hearings", the release of the iPad 2 and other musings that I can't think of right now as I write this description. :)

As someone who has never been in a union, nor worked in an industry where unions were an option, I welcome additional insight from those who have. 

Also, I discuss the 2012 Federal budget and the threat by the GOP of a government shutdown. Have we seen this tantrum before in 1995 when Republicans shut down the government only to see Clinton's ratings soar and the GOP receiving the lion's share of the blame in the public eye? Are threats like this, from either party, a constructive alternative or should there be more focus on making an effective argument before resorting to such dramatic and unnecessary tactics?

Finally, I round out the show with an update on the situation in Libya. Due to his desire to hold onto power until 'the last drop of his blood is spilled', it appears that the only solution in sight is the physical removal (and/or death of Gadhafi). Also, I delve into the ramifications of widespread protests in the Middle East and the concern that it may find its way to Saudi Arabia and the effect this might have on the U.S. (aka: foreign policy & oil imports).

Again, we return to the question: Does the United States, based upon the circumstances, support democracy in principle or in practice?

We start off with a follow up to the events in Egypt, Mubarack stepping down, the military taking over and the suspension of their constitution. We weight the effects of democracy in the middle east, in addition to similar protests popping up in Iran & Bahrain. 

Next, we cover the CPAC convention and whether there is any viable GOP challenger to the President in 2012, in additon to the dangers of relying on Fox News as your only source of information. 

Things start to take a turn for the goofy, as we read and respond to some great listener email from around the world! We also recall our funny expereince at the Russell Senate Building when we met Senators and inadvertantly walked into the middle of a gaggle of prominent Senators.

Finally, we wax poetic on the age old question of who is faster, Superman or the Flash? Along with an update on our impression of DC Universe Online as we pick what superpowers we would want and why...in addition to rounding out the show with some technology discussion, a call to design Dana's next tattoo and a lot more!

There is more than enough content this week to keep your boredom stimulated, no matter what interests you, there is likely to be something to keep you entertained for a few hours. :)

As protests erupt over the authoritarian rule of President Mubarak, we cover the reasons for the uprising, U.S. response and provide some historical context relating to Egypt's place in the region as our ally and how the protests began. We also attempt to tackle the issue of Democracy as a principle versus practice, in addition to the U.S. governments history of propping up rulers in different parts of the world that are in our best interest.

This is a complicated issue and we try our best to bring light, education and thoughtful discussion for the benefit of the listeners around the world. As Stimulated Boredom also has listeners in Egypt, we hope we were effective and accurate in our coverage of the situation.

Is it dangerous (and irresponsible) to engage in the rhetoric of violence when referring to those you disagree with politically? Are terms like, "2nd Amendment remedies", "armed and dangerous", "revolution", "reload" and "take up arms" intended to incite / promote fear and distrust in Government to a particular demographic for political gains?

Although the events in Arizona do not appear to be politically motivated, should the sheer coincidence of who the intended victim was and the fact the she was in Sarah Palin's political crosshairs be a wake-up call to tone down the rhetoric before it's too late? 

This segment centers wholly around the events and controversies of the past week, including a discussion of a political environment in which it could be perceived that violence against a member of Congress is condoned, whether it is intended to be 'tongue in cheek' or not. What responsibility should politicians and public figures bear for their own words and the potential unintended consequences?
