03/31/09, with Stoen Racing - With the crazy year that Stoen Racing has had off the track in 2008, we have decided to take some time off from the drag racing circuit. Over the past 20 years, our family has had many great moments on and off the racetrack, and we'd like to thank all of our sponsors and friends for their support. In the meantime, we'd like to take a moment and update you on some of the latest things going on.

On February 20, 2008, Madelaine Stoen (Roger's brother's daughter) was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. After taking 9 months of chemo at the Mayo Clinic, Madelaine has been reported as cancer free!

On December 20, 2008, Brandon Stoen and Melissa Trom got married! They have built a new house in Medford, Minnesota, and they also continue to commute to their jobs in Minneapolis.

Thanks to TT Motorcycles of Blooming Prairie, MN for already mounting and balancing the new front tires. Other than that, assembly continues on our dragster. Also, we’ll possibly dyno the other engine this week. Less than two months away from our first scheduled race!

02/23/08, with Jami Stoen and Brandon Stoen - Hello fans, friends, and sponsors! Well, 2008 is here and Stoen Racing is preparing for an exciting season of drag racing. It's certainly been busy around here, and we must admit that we've been slacking a bit on the website updates. However, we're back to get you fully updated with every detail!

If you can't already tell, this is Jami Stoen and Brandon Stoen writing this article. Blogging seems to be the cool thing to do these days, so we're giving it a shot. Therefore, excuse us for any bad grammar, etc. Anyway, probably the most exciting project for Stoen Racing this winter has been the completion of our new race shop. As you can see in the photos, we're fortunate to be a bit spoiled with this very comfortable new place to work on the dragsters. Also, as you can tell by the photos, we're right in the middle of our rebuilding process for both dragsters. Everything is pretty much taken apart and put back together every winter. So what's new with the dragsters? Well, Jami and Sput have again done their part with the engines at Sput's Racing Engines. We have just one engine left to dyno. Our engine is already in the dragster frame rails awaiting a fresh transmission. We'll post a movie of that dyno session soon. As always, we've made a few changes to each of the engines that we're very excited about. Sorry, no horsepower secrets being told here! Brandon has been working on a new t-shirt design with the apparel guy. Should be very cool. He will also be working on our 2008 schedule and other updates for the website soon.

Oh yeah, what about that 20 years? Yes, this season will be 20 years for Stoen Racing. It's been quite the adventure, but us kids growing up would have never wanted it any other way. We'll touch on this more throughout the season. For now, we have that new transmission to put in!

Stoen Racing Wins, Strong 2 Day Finish

09/02/07, Earlville, IA - Stoen Racing enjoyed a successful labor day weekend at the Tri-State Raceway dragstrip. Roger took the team to a quarterfinals finish on Saturday with his Racecraft chassis dragster. Jami followed up just one round behind Roger. For Sunday, the team competed in the "best package" elimination round. Jami held strong with a 7.230 on his 7.22 dial. However, Roger was the last driver down the racetrack and took the bonus money after running a perfect 7.480 on his 7.48 dial. For regular Super Pro eliminations, Roger finished in the quarterfinals round. Jami and brother Brandon were able to carry on and take the team into the final round frame. In the final, the new Sput's Racing engine produced yet another 7.26 elapsed time, which was enough to take the win.

Stoen Racing Wins Top Dragster In Brainerd

05/27/07, Brainerd, MN - Returning after an all Stoen final in 2006, Stoen Racing was fortunate enough to claim another Top Dragster win in Brainerd. Jami Stoen qualified his dragster in the 10th slot. The team was able to defeat top point leaders to eventually find the final round. In the final, Jami would take home the Wally trophy after a win to Rick Riegger. The Stoen Racing dragsters now sit in the 3rd and 14th positions for the Renova Energy Top Dragster point standings.

Streak Continues, Top Comp Runner-up In Nebraska

10/08/06, Kearney, NE - In one of their best racing seasons ever, the Stoen family is making a strong presence in the Renova Energy Top Comp series. Stoen Racing has been fortunate enough to have one, or two, dragsters in the final round frame for the past three events that the team has competed at. Rolling into Kearney Raceway Park, Stoen Racing held the number two and three positions in the points series. Both drivers Roger and Jami qualified well despite the drastically changing cold and windy weather. Hard work paid off though for the family as they had both dragsters in the semifinals round. Jami lost a close race with his opponent. However, Roger moved on and carried the team to the final round for a matchup with Driskell. Unfortunately for Roger, a rare delay box failure caused him to red light. Next, and last, race for the season - Kansas City! This is an exciting event for Stoen Racing after a successful season within the Top Comp series. Jami is qualified for the Elite 8 race within this event, with Roger possibly being the first alternate pulled in. For this race within a race, drivers gained points based on their qualifying positions throughout the season.

Roger Stoen, Tri-State Quick 16 Champion

10/01/06, Earlville, IA - As expected, it came down to the last event. Roger needed to qualify and gain just enough round wins to stay ahead of second place opponent Danny White. For this event, Roger opted to drive Stoen Racing's slightly quicker dragster. In the second round, Roger bowed out with enough points lead to still claim the Tri-State Raceway Quick 16 championship. This is Roger's first points championship win, and the third for Stoen Racing. Congratulations Roger and Joan!

Chasing Points, Top Comp Runner-up In Earlville

09/30/06, Earlville, IA - Stoen Racing returned to Tri-State for the rain delayed Renova Energy Top Comp event. Coming into the event, both cars held strong in the points with Jami in the third position, and Roger in the fifth position. Roger red lighted in the second round, but Jami was able move on with multiple rounds of close racing. He met up with Matt Driskell who rolled into the event second in the points. Driskell had the better reaction time, they were close at the finish line, but Driskell took home the win. The next Top Comp event will be held at Kearney Raceway Park, Kearney, NE on Oct 7-8.

New Dragster Likes The Heat, First Win In Iowa

07/30/06, Earlville, IA - After a short summer break, the Stoen family returned to racing action in Iowa. On one of the warmest days of the year, Stoen Racing was fortunate enough to make some headway at Tri-State Raceway. The Stoen Boyz, Jami and Brandon, debuted a slightly new combination, and were able to claim the second qualifying position. Roger and Joan qualified near the middle of the pack in the fifth position. In the first round, Jami and Dennis Schewe went to battle. Jami won this round, but would bow out in the second round of this event. Roger's new Racecraft dragster proved it's consistency in the heat, and defeated three rounds of dragsters to move onto the final. It was a well deserved win for Roger and Joan, as they defeated Larry Demers by running dead on their 7.73 dial in.

All Stoen Final Round, Top Comp Win In Brainerd

06/04/06, Brainerd, MN - After qualifying in the 8th and 9th slots, the Stoen family was able to have both race cars on opposite sides of the eliminations ladder. By doing so, drivers Roger and Jami had a good chance at taking the team to the final round frame. After a few tough round wins, the team was fortunate enough to find themselves in the final round, Roger vs. Jami. The battle of the Stoen's! No matter who won, it was a huge win for the Stoen family, especially after debuting a brand new race car for Roger and Joan. In the final, Roger was closer to his dial, but Jami cut a slightly better reaction time to collect the win and Wally trophy for the team.
