My husband’s ex stopped making payments on a house with his name on it He received a letter indicating that the house was in foreclosure and was to be sold by the Trustee today. I would like to know if the sale really did occur and what the price of the sale was. Anyone know if I can find out?

We bought our house in 2006 (it was built in 2005). We presently owe over $260,000 on our mortgage.

Our house is now worth no more that $160,000

Real estate values have collapsed in our neighborhood (there and several vacant houses on our street).

We have an Adjustable Rate Mortgage. Our mortgage payments will increase in Feb., 2010.

We can rent a house on our street for half the cost of our mortgage payment.

We are both employed. We have no credit card debt.

We do not need credit. We do not especially care if our credit report gets clobbered by failure to make mortgage payments.

Our neighbor has failed to make mortgage payments for eleven months. He received a foreclosure notice in the mail. A lawyer told him that he can still live in the house for at least four months longer (without paying anything).

Our State laws prohibit a lender from suing a homeowner who defaults on the mortgage.

If we stop paying our mortgage, we will be able to save at least $20,000 in the next year (we will need this money for college for our kids). Then we can move across the street and rent. Then in three years we can get an FHA loan and re-buy a house at a fair price.

So why not just stop paying our mortgage? What do you think?

My house is going into forclosure. I was contacted today by the bank and asked about a deed in lieu of forclosure. I tried to look it up and got some info but would like to know what it is and if it is a good idea. What will happen to me/my credit if this happens. What will I be liable for? Can they come after me for any money or assets?

I bought this house with my ex several years ago. About three years ago we split and I moved to another state. Our agreement was that he would get a roommate and refinance and take my name off when his credit was better. He didn’t want to sell when we split he wanted to stay in FL and I hated it out there. That’s why I left. HIs parents had asked that I sign a quitclaim deed and they also said they would refinance. At the time they were helping him make payments. Apparently they’ve stopped because out of the blue I got a call from the bank. I know that I’ve made stupid decisions but there isn’t anything I can do to change it. I just need to move on and any info you could help me with would be great!

I went out of the country and didn’t get any of the paperwork of my apartment. I stopped paying the apartment in November of 2008. Apparently, it is in foreclosure, we don’t know, but we pass by the apartment and someone is living in. Where can I find out the information/status of my apartment? it is in the Miami Lakes area in Florida Dade County. Anything will help
