Make a list of things that make you happy - Remember this old post i had written where i spoke about the meme i found on 43 things?? Well, i finally finished it!! I finally identified 100 things which make me happy apart from money! It was hard to think about the things at first, but once i started on a roll, i ended up with a lot more than 100!! Try it, you’ll be really surprized (*click* here’s mine!)
Append a Noticeboard in your room- … and cover it with your most favourite photos of yourself and of your friends! Else just hang a piece of nice decorative string and append the photos with some cute clothespins!
Organize something for charity – Get a group of friends to join you in a worthy cause – you can do a swimathon, or a marathon, or just a plain walk to raise money for your cause!
Make an organ donor card – If you’re old enough (that is, if age restrictions apply in your country) you can always sign up to continue to do good even after … well, you know. You can save a life and really make a difference

Moleskine Doodles: A colourful Tree of Life

This month’s doodle has been primarily inspired by a very old painting which goes by the same name found in the ancient pre-historic local Hypogeum temples (i really must visit them sometimes, it’s a real shame that i have not yet stepped foot inside …. ha! another thing to add in my list to do this summer, right?). I remember i first heard about its ceilings covered in red ocra spirals when i was 10. At first i was going to leave the sprials just plain black, or having the page half and half … but when i started putting colours in those spirals i just couldn’t stop! i’m currently re-doing another set of pages with the plain black spiral using a better marker than the one i used here. Unfortunately the black marker i used just kept coming off the page and smudging everywhere !!

I’ve also been tagged by Alejandra! It’s such a sweet handwritten meme (i do excuse myself for my rubbish handwriting! hahaha!)

June was soo packed with stuff that it felt like …. more than one month actually passed! I hope everyone had a great june (which i’m sure you all did! most of you out there must have finished your boring, tedious exams righttt?) – let’s make way for the perfect summer 2009!! Here’s the sugars and salts for my month of June

… & because of project 365, most of the stuff i mention here is pictured in my flickr for all you non-flickr-contacts! *click!*

Sugars:

Half Days at Work - They were also mentioned in last year’s Sugar Cube : but they’re truly one of the best things in summer! Each day i get to get off work more than 2 hrs earlier, w00t!! This year to celebrate we headed off to Pizza Hut yumm yumm yumm! I had my favourite off the menu: Texas!
Wedding - Sure i had to attend without ian (he had to study damn exams), but i took my sister with me & we had a great time , in the end the two of us & gaga ended up sitting in the bathroom without out shoes (on what we think might be the diaper changer thingy!) to let our feet cool down from the stress of new shoes! Ha! Good Times
Nazi Zombies (Nacht der Untoten) – Me & ian play this game at least one time during the weekend – it’s pretty fun stuff i suck at it a bit as i’ve been known to die at least 4 times in the game! But i’m slowly getting better and we’re slowly progressing to better levels yay (up till now: level 9!)
Running – I’ve started running again & surprizingly i got my old times back almost! O M G!
Destroying the black fillings – Been to the dentist 2 times this month i’m slowly changing my old black fillings to nice white ones which are more non-noticable (though can you notice something on someone’s very back teeth?? LOL).
Other lovely things – Restarted playing Dungeon Siege again from game #1 (& got addicted to it!), sending out snail mail to friends, getting a visit from my great aunt from aussie, painting my toes in alternative colours, working on the super secret project, almost finishing Lost, everyone finishing up their exams: more time to meet up, hurray! Finishing up reading Confessions of a Shopaholic

Salts:

An Unexpected Funeral – Unfortunately the beginning of this month was tainted by a very shocking news that a woman who works with us died suddenly everyone attended her funeral service
Stupid Tags - I regret not re-taking my old work photo! My office tag looks pretty bad (i had no fringe! i think look chubby! aaaargh!) & i refuse to wear it …. not that i was going to anyway since it’s optional
Procrastination – More time: more work done right? Wrong! It’s just more laying there just surfing around hahaha!
Being an amateur relationship-troubles guru – i love helping out friends in need but … i really suck at giving advice about relationships!? Both of them worked out though (HURRAY!) but it was uncomfortable (& scary! one bad word & what on earth would’ve happened???)
Others - MJ’s death creating a lot of fake obsessive fans out there (i’m not a fan, but it sickens me seeing all these people who become devout fans just because they think it’s rather fashionable since he’s died … i’m looking at you pre-teens! ), Coleslaw with cabbage & carrots … i almost puked when i tasted it – i suck at making coleslaw , summer heat not making me feel like doing anything, still buying clothes in M when they should be S … my new corset is way too big, i never learn !!

Hello darlings!! Hope everyone is having themselves a fine summer (I know i am!)!! Ready to read what’s for today’s 4bw post chock full of 4 suggestions to make your week stand out a little??

Kiss your partner each time you’re a in an elevator - You’ll never look at an elevator the same way again, i promise (it’s lots of fun too, makes the ride pass too quickly though!)
Catch the wedding bouquet – Ignore the tradition that you might get married next (you’re the one to decide on that!). Just join in the fun
Sell unwanted stuff on ebay – Look around your house, you might be surprized on how much stuff is lying around that you do not really need! Like old school books for example – who needs those?? Then sell them & make some extra $$$ (& clear up some precious space!)
Make a star jar – They’re super cute, a nice way to pass the time, you’ll be re-using things (try using a pretty clear food jar, you’ll be automatically saving the environment!) aaaand best of all you’ll have a house ornament that you made yourself !! So why don’t you give simple origami a try?? Here are some pics of the 3 star jars i made: x x x x

A big thanks for dear Bex for accepting my interview request (& replyin in such a short time ! Thanks for bearing with me!).

IckleBug is another well known favourite website with a lot of websurfers out there & frankly – the header alone is AMAZING!!

Interview:

1. Name / Alias: Bex

2. Website Name: Icklebug.net

3. How did you come up with the name? My Husband calls me Beckybug, so I just replaced my name with ‘ickle‘ which made me laugh, so I kept it.

4. How long have you had a website? It’s about 7yrs now. I can’t believe how long it’s been!

5. What was the original theme of the site? Has it deviated? I didn’t really have a theme for my site. I just loved making pixel stuff and put up what I made, then I started to blog more. I think I’ve moved away from pixelly stuff to waffling blog entries

6. Where do you get inspiration for layouts from? Lots of link clicking! I picked ideas that I liked from the mish-mash of sites that I browse. My current layout is made by Leanne from ewebscapes because I couldn’t figure out a way to use my Flash bunnies in a layout without it just being plopped on the top of the page.

7. What kind of programs & tools do you use to make your layouts? I use Dreamweaver for the coding because I love the way that you can quickly check how your page looks without having to upload it a million times. I use Paint Shop Pro for my graphics because it’s so simple to use.

8. Has your website / layout making technique changed from the beginning till now? I’m more inclined to want to throw my laptop out of the window when I mess around with layout ideas. There’s so much more you can do with websites now, but it’s so easy to get stuck in your old ways that it’s sometimes difficult to make everything work together.

9. Do you have a screenshot of how your website used to look at the beginning? I used to, but I can’t seem to find it. It actually wasn’t too bad for a first attempt, but it was i-frame hell!

10. Have you ever done something that goes against the netiquette? The problem with the internet is that it’s very hard to make sarcastic comments or jokes without littering the place with smilies to make sure that people /know/ you’re joking. I’ve censored myself a lot in the past because I felt that no one really got my sense of humour. People took me too seriously and it drove me insane!

11. Are there any webmasters whom you consider as your role model? Vixx is one of my favourites. She could write about washing the dishes and I would find it interesting. I also greatly admire Jem and Bubs.

12. Did you ever think that your site will be this popular? I’m constantly surprised by the amount of hits that my site gets, and also a little ashamed that I haven’t really provided anything new for my faithful visitors in so long.

13. What is your trick to make a website popular? I think people can tell when you are doing something that you consider fun rather than trying to please the widest audience possible. Enjoy what you do and you’ll be surprised how many people like the same thing and how quickly they find you.

14. How much time do you dedicate on working on your site? I used to spend hours creating pixel graphics and trying out new designs, but my productivity has definitely dwindled.

15. Do you consider yourself as a mini celebrity? Not in the slightest. I’ve been on a couple of forums where people have recognised my name, which is weird but fun. That’s about it though.

16. Do you like being considered that way? It would be flattering but I don’t think that I would be able to stand the attention for too long!

17. Do you monetize your website? If so – approximately – How much money do you make each month? I use TextLinkAds to display links on my site. Nothing intrusive. I currently have 2 companies advertising on my site, which pays me a total of $25 per month

18. What programs do you use to make money? I don’t use anything other than TextLinkAds

19. Do you have big plans for your website for the future? My biggest plan is to get back into updating regularly! For the longest time I’ve started to write a blog post then think to myself that no-one is interested in reading that waffle

20. Do you have any tips for us? Don’t be afraid of looking at people’s source code. Mess about with it and see how it works. Obviously copying and pasting code is stealing, but you can learn so much just by testing code out and using that knowledge to make something completely your own.

Heureuse semaine!! (It’s supposed to mean – Happy Week, did i get it right?) I’m in love with this time of year! The only thing i don’t like is that the days are too damn short (24hrs isn’t enough for all the plannings & fun things!). Have you got any ideas planned for this upcoming week? Here are some to add to your list!

Make your own jewellery - Make your way to buy some lovely beads, gemstones and other lovely things you can pass through a thread and make yourself gorgeous creations (perfect also to give to your best friend! … Remember those friendship bracelets that were soo popular to create when we were a tad smaller??)
Do some form of exercise every week – With all these lovely sunny days who wouldn’t want to get out there?! Go for a nice run, get your rollerblades on or go for a swim in the ocean until you don’t have any breath left!! It’s good for your body!
Make an Anti-Boredom List – Perfect for those days when you’re stuck inside your house! Ensure yourself that you’ll never run out of inspiring ideas to do (& spend your time in a worthy manner instead of wasting it away, riiight?)
Catch fireflies in a jar - A real summer favourite! If fireflies are somewhat comon where you live (sooo unlike over here!), you can pass a whole evening running after them ( you can even pretend you’re catching faries! )

Wonder if some of you out there have ever caught a REAL fairy?

For many the Summer season’s the time to run outside and forget they have a roof over their head!! There are also those who choose to hibernate inside to escape the scorching sun rays (you vampire!) … Such poor souls are susceptible to the enemy of all humanity … BOREDOM!

Is there a way to escape such a fate? Is there something one can do instead of wasting all that free time? SURE! This is where the internet and a little imagination comes in

Tools you need for your anti-boredom list…

Pen & Paper / PDA or your Word Processor to write your list in
THE INTERNET (equipped with a good search engine!)
Hours of your time (you probably have a lot of those to spare already though, don’t you?)

Another week’s started! What do you have planned SugarPlum? What are you going to do to make your week more interesting? Need a few ideas?

Relax and do nothing but daydream - Spend an afternoon doing nothing but sip cool lemonade under an umbrella with the company of a good book or photobook and getting lost in your little world of thoughts
Make the Summer 2009 OST! – Grab a cd / pendrive / sd card or create a new youtube playlist and instead of buying a summer anthems cd this year make one of your own!
Make an inspiration Book - Go to your local stationery and buy any blank notebook or diary. I got myself a blank paged moleskine notebook and recently started building my own inspiration book. You can gather mementos of special days and stick them in it, you can make collages, stick your favourite pictures in it or draw your heart out in its pages … anything which enlightens your creativity
Make your own ice cream - The beautiful Sarah Von from YesandYes published the following article called Thirty New Things where she proposes 30 new things to do before she turns 30 one of the awesome ideas includes making a Sweet Corn icecream! Sounds yummy and twisted! Try and making your own Summer sweet treat – not only it’ll be healther but you can make super flavours that aren’t available at your local ice-cream parlor like cereal flavoured ice-cream or an icecream flavoured after your most favourite chocolate! YUMM! How does that sound huh??

Summer Guide 2009: Making the essential Summer Playlist

One thing i LOVE doing every summer is to compile a playlist which will forever remind me of that particular summer year Infact it has become pretty much a tradition! I’ve decided to compile this year’s playlist on youtube (warning – there are over 60 songs to date! ).

Interested in doing one yourself this year? Here are some tips:

The playlist doesn’t have to contain the actual summer anthems of this year (though most of the time, they do find themselves there before they annoy to death!)
Make the playlist as varied as the activities that we get to do!
Don’t restrict yourself to one genre of music try and divert yourself from the usual type you listen to (if you see mine it’s got at least 10 different genres! )
Try and picture yourself at the beach / driving in a hot summer afternoon / relaxing in the sun under a beautiful perfectly blue sky … which songs would you prefer to listen to at those moments? Those are the ones that will be PERFECT for the playlist!
