Review: Clarins White Plus HP Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel

One of my favorite whitening product from Clarins is definitely the White Plus HP Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel.

I'm lucky to score two bottle from previous PWP promotion and I only paid RM99 per bottle. This is 125ml and it's retailing for RM152.

What exactly is Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel? The name makes no sense to me at first until the BA explains to me what is it and what is the usage of this. In short. . . this is a liquid "scrub" which is why Clarins named it "peel". You can't see or feel the scrubbing but it's doing the dead skin peeling job. One thing for sure; I like the shiny pinkish smooth oval bottle heh!

Although the peel is in liquid but it's not entirely runny type of liquid. When you shake the bottle you can hear hard liquid sound inside. Something like melted gelato? The dispenser head is just like normal but it doesn't dispense anything out unless you squeeze the bottle. When you stop squeezing the dispensing stop. I like the idea a lot as it prevent dispensing more than enough content out.

Instruction from Clarins - Apply with a cotton pad soaked in lotion. Use on the face and neck, avoiding the eye contour area.

Okay. I don't follow entirely what's printed on the bottle nor I ever read the insert. I have 2 ways of using this peel.

Before mask - I'd use a cotton pad to apply on the face, leave it for 5-10 minutes and apply my mask. Either it's sheet mask or Clarins wash-off mask.
Before toner - After cleansing face, use a cotton pad to apply on the face, leave for 10 minutes and apply toner follow by usual skin care routine. I learn this from reading other review.

Yes it does. My skin is smoother, skin care absorb better after using this and this is gentle enough to be use everyday! But of course I still have my other scrub from Clarins which I'd use one a week :). However this is a must for me before any mask.

1) Gentle to be use everyday. There's no burning sensation unlike other scrubs in the market.
2) One bottle really really last long. I think I'm not even used up 1/4 of the first bottle. It's really worth the money.
3) After using this skin care absorb better.
4) Good for ~~lazy~~ simple person that hate spending time scrubbing.

I already did ;). And yes I'd repurchase in the future after finishing the 2 bottles I have on hand. It's gonna be a long time before I get to make a purchase lol.

I finally received my February Vanity Trove last Friday. However I'm unable to do a proper rundown review of the trove. Can you spot the reason from below picture?

Well, there's a few item missing. So I'm waiting for Vanity Trove to send them over next week. I'm very disappointed upon opening the trove and find the main item is missing. Sigh. There's another item which require us to redeem directly from their supplier so that will take some time as well as it's gonna be send down from Singapore too. Double sigh.

My Love for Angel Wings

I grew up only liking white, pink and anything related to love or heart shape. Now that I'm older, I lost my interest in heart shape and my interest is leaning towards unique stuff or hard to find stuff. Angel wings is one of the thing that I'm into now. Not only finding a unique looking angel wings is hard, the price tend to be slight expensive than others like owl? My friend Casey is obsessed with owl.

Recently I found an online store selling affordable accessories but her stocks is very limited and the selection is very small. I ordered a necklace from her just before CNY. One of the question I asked her is if the gold chain will change color. She replied in a laugh and very sure that it will not change color. To me her reply is rather "funny" as I can see those kind of metal will surely change color. As it's only RM18, I don't mind throwing it away IF it really changed color so I purchased it. I was right. The color changed in just a few hours of wearing!

Putting that aside, I saw that she listed a very nice looking angel wings ring and it's only RM9. The color is bronze-like so I'm not afraid that it'll change color LOL!! I also ordered an angel wings necklace for RM12 which I'm pretty sure it'll change color type *faint*. Too cute to pass!

Tips - How to get the most from your serum bottle

Normally we just throw away the empty bottle whenever it's not pump-able anymore. We tried to unscrew the top cap but it doesn't seems to work. I did the same for the first two bottle of Clarins Shaping Facial Lift as the bottle is vacuum type. Then on my third bottle I started to get adventurous. Since I'm tossing it away there's no harm with force opening the cap. I mean what have I got to lose right?

Alright. It's just 3-simple steps and you get the hidden serum out in no time!

First, make a small gap by tilting the cap to a side.

Second, after you have got a gap use the tip of your stapler and start force opening from one end to another. A few attempt is needed in order to get the whole round cap loose.

When the cap is loose, take it off. You'll see some of the serum is actually at the bottom of the cap. And look at the serum amount inside the bottle!

Last but not least, use a clean cotton bud and scoop the serum out when needed. I'm using cotton bud instead of spatula because the spatula I have is too big to be in the bottle hehe. If you have a small spatula which can fit in your serum bottle, use it if you like. But I feel that by using cotton bud you can actually go deep into the corners which spatula can't.

Here's another tip. Since this bottle is vacuum type bottle, I normally would use the cotton bud to push the vacuum base down and I could actually scoop more. Only do this when you've finish scooping the top part ok? Based on my experience the hidden serum could last me 2 to 3 usage. This serum is RM225 per bottle so there's no wastage here ;). Oh ya, don't toss your Clarins bottles or jars away. Clarins might start a recycling program this year. I hope they start the program soon as my recycling corner is getting more and more congested :)

Another Episode of Crabtree & Evelyn La Source X Hello Kitty Essentials + Avocado, Olive & Basil

A few days ago my lady boss and I went to KLCC during working hours. I wanted to go Kinokuniya to get some creative buy ideas and she wanted to buy some gift for a friend who's getting married.

At first we went to L'Occitane. There aren't any promo or gift set so I dragged her out and went to Crabtree & Evelyn as I knew there's lots of gift set available.

This is what I came home with...yet again. I got the last set of La Source X Hello Kitty Essentials set for RM98 and 2 sets of "A Love So Beautiful" exclusive set for RM38 each set (worth RM78).

What do both of us bought in total?
* La Source X Hello Kitty Essentials - 2 sets. One set is for me and another set is for my lady boss's friend.
* Avocado, Olive & Basil Revitalising Bath & Shower Gel - 1 bottle. This is my lady boss's.
* Avocado, Olive & Basil Revitalising Bath & Shower Gel - 1 bottle. This is also my lady boss's.
* "A Love So Beautiful" exclusive set - 4 sets. Two set is for me, 1 set is for my lady boss and another set is for her friend.

The question is, how do we ended up with 4 sets of "A Love So Beautiful" exclusive set but we only got 2 Avocado, Olive & Basil product? Well, the SA said there's no limitation in how many set we can purchase although I checked with Mid Valley SA last week and also their Facebook page that we can only purchase 1 set only for 1 Avocado, Olive & Basil product purchase.

Our total damage is RM458. As we didn't want the huge tote bag, we are given 2 sets of Avocado, Olive & Basil mini gift set worth RM90 LOL. I'm loving this KLCC SA very much now hehehe.

V-Day 2012 Small Lil Gesture

Remember my previous post on DIY-ing pillow box for gift this Valentine? Read here.

I've done up 5 units of pillow box for my colleagues and friends. This is the end result. As mentioned before, the pillow box is very small. Most of my gift is not even fit in the box. I have to pack it separately.

It's challenging to search for the right gift for 5 different personality girls! But I managed to find something for each of them thanks to my overly stuffed beauty drawer.

The extras which couldn't fit in the pillow box. I like the wrapping bag very much that I die die also must use a few hahaha.

Hope everyone like their gift. It's nothing fancy. Just a small gesture from me.

Review: Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover

One thing that I buy frequently is eye makeup remover. I used them up quite fast as I do my eye makeup everyday. Although not a heavy makeup but reasonable amount is needed to remove all the waterproof mascara and eyeliner.

Today's eye makeup remover review is from none other than Clarins! I bought a bottle of Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover back in October 2011. This remover is 125ml and cost RM98. It's a bi-phase remover which is meant for heavy and waterproof makeup. So far this is the most expensive eye make-up remover I ever used! Hope it's as good as their skincare aight!

What I love about Clarins' way of packaging their product is that they always shrink wrap the bottle cap part which is mostly covering half of the bottle or jar. This gave me a self relief that no one have open or used it before.

At the back of the bottle you'd find the usual info. Don't you just love the sky blue color?

Shake well before use. Soak a cotton pad with product and wipe gently over eyelids then lashes without rubbing. Use a separate cotton pad for each eye.

This is how I remove my eye makeup.
Firstly, shake the remover vigorously to mix the liquid as this is bi-phase remover. Soak a cotton pad with remover in a line form. Refer picture below.

Then place the soaked part of the cotton pad under the eyelash and press onto your eyes. Stay in the position for 1-2 minutes and move your hand gently. Not rubbing but just move gently from left to right without the cotton pad moving. You'd notice all the eyeshadow, mascara and eyeliner is transfered to the cotton pad :). Refer picture below as well.

Gross. I know.

Turn the cotton pad to the other end which is unused and swipe eyelid gently to remove the remaining traces of eye makeup as well as brow.

Obviously it does! I absolutely like this eye makeup remover very much that I bought another bottle at last year's beauty fair.

1) Pricey (RM98) but huge bottle of 125ml.
2) Removes waterproof makeup completely. Even Coffret D'Or stubborn liquid eyeliner. Phew!
3) Doesn't irritate eyes. Suitable for contact lens wearer.
4) No eyelashes fall out.

Definitely yes. This will be my main eye makeup remover but I will also stray to other brand just to try out.

Beginning of this month I opened up quite a number of new products to use.

Clarins Instant Light Perfecting Touch 1ml
This is a sample unit and I currently have 3 pieces which I've used up 2. I'm using this as a concealer to cover up my acne scar. The color of this is slightly tinted and appears pinkish. So far the concealer does a good job.

Kanebo Coffret D'Or Eyes Appeal Shadow in (01 Sweet Brown)
Bought this from last week's Kanebo warehouse sales at Kanebo Internation Salon Bangsar. The color payout is very light and but very shimmering. I like that it's not just shimmering, it also contains shimmer particles.

Skin79 Crystal Finish Pact
A Taiwan Marie Claire magazine freebies. The shade is a bit light but with my darker shade liquid foundation, it's not a biggie. I usually swirl this with Ecotools Blush Brush. This compact powder also contains shimmer particles.

Avene Cold Cream Lip Balm
It says "Lip Balm" but I don't recommend using it as lip balm alone as you could look like a ghost! There's this satin sheen on the lips and I like to apply this just before my lipstick. It gave my lipstick a beautiful sheen and it's quite moisturising too.

Clarins Concealer Stick 2.6g
Bought two of this from Clarins beauty fair last year for RM30 each. Original price of this is RM92 can you believe that. It's something like Instant Light Perfecting Touch. The only different is the texture. This is more solid creamy and Instant Light Perfecting Touch is more liquid.

Bio-Essence Aqua BB Cream 30g
I got this from an exchange program back in January. Read here. If you know me then you'd know I hate the company Ginvera and all the products under it's umbrella. This BB cream is a crap. For some reason I don't feel safe applying this on my face. I've used it once and it's now in my rubbish bin.

Clarins Pure and Radian Mask With Pink Clay 15ml

One of the best mask I've ever used! Apparently this is my 2nd last 15ml tube. If you use this mask on the night, you'd get a more radiant skin the next morning. Makeup glides on smoothly and stays on smoothly too.

Clarins Advanced Extra-Firming Neck Cream 15ml
This was given to me as one of the GWP. I've been using it on and off. Maybe because of that I haven't seen any significant result. I think I need to use it more often to see a better result?

Clarins Multi-Active Skin Renewal Serum 30ml
I gotten this from October last year points redemption and this baby costs RM238. I was advised by a BA at Jusco MV in September 2011 to purchase this but I refuse as I find it expensive for a 30ml hehe. I didn't use this everyday as I was alternating between 3 serums.

Clarins White Plus HP Whitening Velvet Emulsion SPF20 15ml
This is given to me to try by Clarins Malaysia as this is their new White Plus HP product which just launched not long ago. This will be replacing the current Whitening Day Emulsion. The new Velvet Emulsion comes in 2 version; one with SPF20 and the other one without. The one without SPF20 could be use at night time. I kinda like this new version as it's less oilier and felt more light on the skin. This will definitely suitable for combination skin.

Kanebo Coffret D'Or Natural Clear Liner BK-28
A non-refillable liquid eye liner by Coffret D'Or. First impression is this is kinda watery. It's like the water and the black ink is not properly mixed. Then I start to shake the pen vigorously and it's ok now LOL. Hard to remove though. Don't expect this to be easier to remove like Maybelline HyperSharp Liner cause it's not.

Makeup artist around the world called this the second skin. I couldn't agree more. I'm using this to cover up my forehead lines. Yea I tend to frown and lift my brow when I do my eye makeup. Bad bad habit. And I'm using this to cover up my pores on the cheek as well.

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Lotion 9ml
A sample from Hada Labo FB redemption. I always wanted to apply something liquid and moisturizing after each mask session and this is perfect! I could see myself purchasing the full size bottle of this soon.

Virus attack & What to do

My home laptop was attacked by a few ~~virus~~ trojan yesterday night when I was reading one beauty blog after googled for "Vanity Trove". It all happened in front of my eyes. First my antivirus detected a few virus and quarantined the buggers away, then my mp3 which was playing that time shut down and then the files on my desktop starts to be missing one by one and my hard disk died. The next thing I know is everything in my laptop is wiped out. Desktop is blank, all the item in Start button is blank as well. Everything is not clickable or accessible.

What do I do? I went to sleep. There's nothing I can do at that hour and I was sleepy. Obviously my KLCC shopping trip the next day would be canceled. Before that I did some google search on this and I found some solution that I would try the next morning.

This morning I use my work laptop to go online and found an interesting website. The website did a post on how to restore missing files and folders after virus attack. The author also provide a free application to restore all files and folder. I was completely blocked from going online with my infected laptop (all application is missing) so what I do is I downloaded the application and save it to a thumbdrive. Then I plug in the thumbdrive to the infected laptop and run it.

Windows XP user can just download and run the application. Windows Vista and Windows 7 would need to download and run the application with administrator rights. Ok, here's the tricky part. After you click on the application it may seems that nothing is working BUT actually Unhider is doing the job behind the scene. Give it a few minutes for it to do it's magic and you'd see that all the files and folders are back. You have no idea how happy I am to see my files start to reappear on my desktop.

Valentine's Day Pillow Box DIY

For this year's V-Day I decided to gift a few of my friends with a small gift. With this I wanted to DIY my own card but later on ditch the plan as the card that I wanted to do require some die-cut using a knife and it looked horrible as the section to cut out is roundish kind. So I changed my plan to DIY for pillow box instead.

All I need is art card paper, double sided tape and ribbon. First I print out the design which I accidentally stumbled upon last month from google. She have lots of wonderful and simple craft work which I absolutely adore. Instead of using a white art card paper, I'm using a sweet light pink art card paper. The design includes one complete pillow box and four sentiment hearts (gift tags) for the front namely XOXOX, Happy Valentine's Day, SWAK and Love, me.

After the design sheet is printed out, cut out the box around the edges, fold the top and bottom curve line, fold the tab on the side and use double sided tape to seal the box.

Prepare your gift. This pillow box is really small so only small gift or candies or even cookies can fit in. Hmmm why never I thought of candies for my own gift pack eh?

Put your gift in the pillow box. Fold in the brown flap. Tie a ribbon around the box and stick your selected gift tag on the ribbon in the front using a double sided tape. The sample shown on the website which I downloaded the design is actually using a dark brown ribbon but I don't have any at home so I'm using a red ribbon. Not too bad actually considering my paper is in pink and the gift tag is in red ;)

Simple Tip to Prevent Accessories Crystal Fall-Out

How many of you love those earrings, hair clips, rings or bracelets that have lots of crystal diamante on it? I do! And how many of you just toss them away when one or two crystal on it is missing?

I have a simple and easy solution that I've been using since a few years ago which I discovered when I was shopping for some hair accessories. I fell in love with a hair clip but decided not to buy it as the tiny crystal on it will fall out after one or two wearing. That's when the sales person told me the secret. God bless her.

So. Recent I bought a few pairs of earrings and one significant pair is full with tiny crystal and pearls. When I was still deciding to buy the earring, I already saw 2 pairs with fallen crystal. As it was the last 2 pairs available and I wanted it badly, I just take 1 side each which is still in good condition from the 2 pairs and voilà! The pair that I bought is actually a combination of the 2 pairs (hope I don't confuse you).

What is the lil secret that I was taught a few years ago? The answer lies in the below picture.

You got it. It's clear nail polish! If you have a bottle a home, great. If you don't just grab something which is preferably not too cheap from any shopping centre. In my case I opted for The Face Shop Clear Nail Polish WH001.

Just swipe off any excess from the applicator and start applying generously but not too generous or else you'd ended up with a thick coat which could look fake and takes longer time to dry. The best part of this process is that the nail polish is clear and the crystal is clear so you don't have to be worries about making a mess. It's not noticeable ;). I also would lightly run the applicator on the side of the earrings to get the nail polish in the edges.

Give it a day to completely dry before wearing. Have fun and remember the tips is to swipe off access from the applicator first. Don't soak the crystal aight.

I missed last week's sales so I went for this week's sales at Kanebo International Salon Bangsar.

Products offered are Coffret D'or up to 50% off, Lunasol and Impress IC up to 20% off, Impress and Blanchir Superior up to 30% off. There are also 2 sets of Impress Granmula special buy; Purchase Impress Granmula Cream at RM4,600 and FREE Impress Double Cleansing + Double Moisturizing and Purchase Impress Granmula Emulsion at RM1,200 and FREE Impress Double Cleansing. A bit disappointed that Lunasol price is not much different and Coffret D'or is just 50% off considering the fact that Coffret D'or will be pulling out from Malaysia after this clearance. If a particular brand is pulling out from the market, one would expect maybe 70% or buy 1 free 1 or even nett clearance price i.e. RM10, RM30, RM50. Anyway after taking sweet sweet time browsing and asking questions on the products, I hauled RM238 worth of Coffret D'or products. The crowd is ~~too nice~~ just nice and it's nothing close like those warehouse sales in hotel's function room. When I was there there's only 1 lady around and when I'm about to leave, there's another lady who just came in. So you can enjoy the 1 to 1 chat with the BA when you're there.

So, what did I get? Was aiming on eyeshadow palette especially Lunasol but the colors ~~and price~~ doesn't caught my eye and instead Coffret D'or color selection is way better so I bought the following.

There's 2 type of liquid eyeliner available. One is not refillable and one is refillable. The casing for refillable eyeliner is RM33 while the refill is RM17. I don't plan to buy a lot plus the brand will face out so I only bought 1 not refillable liquid eyeliner for RM29.

The tube that I had is the revamped version which is a easy-to-squeeze tube. I like this version more than the old tube with wand as I've read from various blog review that the old tube tend to waste lots of primer at the bottom. I guess the wand is not long enough to scoop everything out?

A little goes a long way. I only need a teeny weeny bit on each eye lid. At first I apply in a swiping motion but the primer dries out very fast that it create some streaks and it looks awful. Then I tried dabbing and the primer look transparent on my lid.

At first it doesn't and I prefer Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer more. I always think that UDPP is over-rated and Etude one are far more better in what it claimed and it works far more better in terms of controlling the oil secretion on my eye lid, preventing creasing as well as prolonging eyeshadow. After spending more and more days using this primer, I started to like it bit by bit.

Below is a swatch done with and without UDPP. As you can see UDPP not only prevent creasing and prolonging your eyeshadow, it also enhance eyeshadow color which means you save time layering eyeshadow. The color of your eyeshadow will just popped up!

Without - 4 layers, With - 2 layers

1) Tend to streak if apply with swiping motion. Dabbing is alright.
2) A little goes a long way. A tube of 11ml could last quite some time.
3) Enhance eyeshadow color saving time on layering eyeshadow.
4) Pricey. Retailing at RM75 at Sephora.

The best part is always the free gifts. But it's rather complicated as the current Tier 1 to Tier 3 free gifts is for White Plus HP purchase. My purchase is nothing on that so I wasn't qualified but I purchased RM1,061 worth of products so how? Fennie searched for previous promotion's free gift set and she gave me these.

I'm a good girl last month spending just RM68 on Clarins. Actually I reserved 2 sets of Truly Matte Best Buy set but the irresponsible BA at Parkson KLCC either 1) sold off one of my reserved set or 2) there's only 1 set left in the counter. Later on I found out that Isetan Gardens still have 9 sets left sp I make a reservation for 2 sets and I found out that the cleansing gel is actually near to expiry so I contacted Priscilla of Clarins HQ. To cut the story short all counters which still hold the stock must returned back to their HQ. So I cancelled my reservation as well =)

This is my 5th set purchased in total and it's the last available as well.

Review: Elite Paris Fantastic Primer

Sometime in November 2011, I attended Elite Cosmetics makeup launch in Malaysia and today I'm going to review one of the product which was given to me in the door gift bag.

I was delighted to received a Elite Fantastic Primer in my door gift bag as the MUA was promoting this during the makeover. Fantastic Primer comes in a 15ml glass bottle which is so hard that it didn't broke when I accidentally dropped the bottle not once but 3 times lol! It is retailing at RM42.90. Elite cosmetics products are made in Italy and available exclusively at Watsons Malaysia. It is not available anywhere else as Watsons is the sole importer for the brand.

A make up base that matifies, hydrates and enegises. Hydration of the upper layers of the epidermis.

Water (Aqua), Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Dimenthicone Crosspolymer, PVP, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Laureth-7, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Parfum (Fragrance), Plankton Extract

There's no written instruction on how to apply this.

This make up base or primer some might called it is in gel form. I've never use any gel form make up base before.

I usually pump about 3 to 4 pumps on my palm, warm it with both hands and gently apply onto my face after skin care and sun block. Sometimes I gently swipe on and sometimes I press onto my face. I wanted to try out which works better for my skin type and I find that it doesn't make any different. This is how the gel looks like after spreading. It will melt into your skin as soon as you put it on your face. Which is pretty amazing.

Oh welllll, hmmm... on the first day I paired this with MUFE High Definition Foundation and it works well in making my face appear less oilier than usual. I'm not sure if it's this make up base or it's the foundation so I tried this with different foundation and sad to say this is not the one which has been making my face more matte than usual =(. For me it doesn't hydrate or energise my skin. I have my Clarins HydraQuench Cream-Gel on which is doing the hydrating job for the skin.

1) Affordable for those who are new to make up.
2) Superb for normal skin type.
3) Scent-less and melt into skin immediately.
4) Available at Watsons stores which is easily to find.
5) Better in performance if to compare with Clarins Instant Light Complexion Perfector!

Not at the moment as I wanted to try other make up base in the market. My next try would be Laura Mercier ones.

Yesterday morning I drove all the way from Kajang to Mid Valley as I wanted to drop by Shins to check out their EcoTools® brushes and perhaps to buy a set or two.

All the time I'm working at Mid Valley and passed by Shins countless time but never stepped in and check out the products. I do however notice all the EcoTools® brushes as the display is facing the main entrance. You won't miss it if you are passing by.

I'm glad I went to Shins! I had the best shopping experience compared with Sasa (not that I go Sasa that much) but Shins is far more better! If you hate BA that is quiet, non-suggestive and with black face then fret not. All Shins BA is opposite of that. I was flipping, touching and taking most of the EcoTools® brushes for closer look and Ben allows me to do that. He never once show me unhappy face. But of course I make sure I put back everything at it's original place.
