With one hand scribbling lyrics onto the back of a roadmap, and the other held aloft to thumb down a ride, London born singer-songwriter James Riley is a troubadour of the kind many thought no longer exist. A “fiendishly proficient” guitarist and singer, James chronicles his experiences through clamorous, jubilant bluegrass ‘n’ soul and exquisitely spun yarns, sewn through ethereal, almost hymn-like ballads of love and life.

Already a seasoned performer at 24, James has turned heads the world over, earning him spots on the same bill as blues legend Buddy Guy in Chicago, and folk giant Martin Simpson in the UK. After recently returning from busking and hitchhiking his way from Amsterdam to Istanbul, James has been pedalling his unique class of pulsing, brazenly catchy acoustica throughout London and the South East, steadily gathering a word-of-mouth buzz in his wake.

Accompanied live by vocalist Stephanie Singer and cellist Danny Pagarani, not to mention Kitty Cassette, a spoons-player extraordinaire, The James Riley Band have built up a reputation for spirited live shows, consisting of what SuperGlad Records calls: “joyously melodic uptempo folk stomp-alongs … mixed with contemplative ballads, all delivered with brilliant technique”.

After pausing to record his debut EP in October 2011, James is soon to be back on the road with a slew of festival dates emerging for the summer of 2012, and a UK tour planned later in the year. But adventure is never far off, and this spring James also plans to take his music around Ireland… on horseback.

Ash Victim is a singer-songwriter who plays stripped down acoustic folk-punk consisting mainly of vocals and acoustic guitar with a strong DIY ethic. He started out busking in the streets of Jersey (channel Island) playing a mixture of covers and originals. In August 2011 he moved to Basingstoke, England, where he continued to busk, began putting more effort into his original music and playing as many shows as possible. His debut album ‘We Are All Obscene’ features eight original tracks, was home-recorded and released in October 2011. He continued to busk and play gigs, including a support slot with Mark Chadwick of the Levellers. When busking he met another busker singer-songwriter by the name of Dan Kemp who plays mandolin and violin and now regularly joins Ash when performing live. In March 2012 Ash released his second home-recorded album. This time with 11 songs recorded over a period of 2 days and a much more stripped down approach and sound than the previous album. Ash is now preparing to leave home, busk around the country and play a variety of festivals and gigs along the way.

OPG and DtB Promotions in association with Strummerville are proud to present: Remembering Joe – 10 Years On – A Fundraiser for Strummerville.

December 22nd 2012 sees the 10th Anniversary of the passing of legendary Joe Strummer.

Many events are being held up and down the country commemorating this anniversary. OPG and DtB Promotions felt that something personal was missing, and have decided to hold a weekend celebrating the life of one of the most influential voices ever to emerge from those hazy, heady 1970’s Punk days.

There was only 1 venue which could possibly host this very special event, the 100 Club, Oxford Street, London. One of Joe’s favourite venues during his life. The capacity of the club is approx.. 300 bodies, large enough to hold a great crowd, but small enough to keep the event very personal and intimate.

As a reflection of the great affection people have for Joe, when the idea was originally announced in 2011, countless bands approached us to play, all insisting on charging no fee, they simply wanted to “Remember Joe”.

The list of bands was enormous, and the final line up has been chosen to represent all that is, and was, best about Joe’s choice of music, friends, and lifestyle.

In my next life some music reviewers would like to hope to be in a Gar Francis cover band. It almost makes them wonder if he sold his soul, everything and we mean everything people’ve heard by Gar Francis just ROCKS. Born in North Plainfield NJ, Gar Francis is a songwriter/guitarist and producer.
His new EP Shine On is out on iTunes and Back In 1985 is one of the 5 killer tracks.

In memory of our global treasure; Joe Strummer, London based artist Kitty Finer is calling out to all corners of the globe as part of a world-wide fan-art venture- LETS GO GLOBAL-A-GO GO.

This summer, Strummerville will be hosting the Joe Strummer 10 year anniversary festival – Strummer Of Love and as part of Jazz Domino Holly’s Handmade Hangout tent, Finer will pay homage to Joe by curating a fan made shrine.

The shrine will be based on the vibrant, layered and ephemeral stalls found at Spanish fiestas, a tribute to Joe’s affection for Spain.

In the spirit of Joe Strummer Finer is urging fans to gather together and form collectives to create hand made offerings. Each and every contribution will be individually photographed and added to the on going and expanding installation.

In the words of Joe Strummer “Without people you’re nothing” so this project needs you! It is in the hands of the fans!

Street Parade are an indie/electronic band.
Since the recent departure of a member the band have decided to push the sound forward by using distorted bass lines and sequenced synthesizers to create a very modern and dancey sounding band.
Influences can come from anywhere but are mainly Kasabian, The Clash, Reverend and the Makers and Daft Punk.
The band are currently gigging and in the past have supported acts such as Reverend and the Makers, The Automatic and The Sunshine Underground and also reached the Semi Finals of UK’s biggest unsigned band competition “Live and Unsigned”

“With the demise of their former band, The Papershakers, Street Parade have risen from the ashes as a 3 Piece with all the swagger you’d expect from a band that pay homage to the baggy sounds of Manchester circa 1990 yet possessing the energy of naughties favourites, Bloc Party, The Rapture and Daft Punk, alongside the current stance of Kasabian. Lead singer Andy Carmichael leads from the front with hypnotic honey filled vocals whilst taking over on keyboard duties. Their sound is driven throughout courtesy of the excellent pulsating drumming from Dave Dennett and the distorted bass lines of Chris Howes. Overall, Street Parade are now a musical force to be reckoned with in the city. I’ve had them debut down at my Sesh live music night recently and they absolutely stormed it. Looking forward to having them back often in 2012.”
