This week our scrapbook sketch is a 12" x 12" layout featuring a square photo over lots of layers in the center of the page, a title below, and large stars scattered throughout the background. Our notebook sketch showcases a full-page photo on the left page with star shapes across the top of the spread and heavy journaling on the right page. And our pocket page sketch features a 3" x 4" quote card with stitched embellishments and a 3" x 4" photo.

Die-Cut Number Tickets

Pam used the 5 and 8 die-cut number tickets to embellish a sweet black and white photo on her spread, City Sidewalks Documenter Kit. We love this simple yet stunning addition on the picture capturing her mom's birthday!

Chipboard Circles

On her spread, Dec 17, Barbara stamped her title on a chipboard circle from the City Sidewalks kit using the new Mega Date Stamp by Jasmine Jones. We love the result!

The stamp set from the City Sidewalks Documenter Kit is perfect for pairing with the chipboard circles. We love how Lisa stamped out "Rise and Shine" on her blue chipboard circle and paired with the black and white star card on her spread, Week 46.

Sarah also stamped on her chipboard circle for her spread, City Sidewalks Documenter Kit, and paired it with the sunburst card from the kit. We love the sense of movement this adds to her spread!

We love Candace's placement of the chipboard circle on her spread, Sparkle 2018. That ampersand card is so fun!

Kelly used two chipboard circles to embellish her spread, November 2018, pairing them with like-colored journaling cards. This tone-on-tone effect is a great technique for any spread!

Puffy Stickers

Candace used the star puffy stickers as finishing touches on her scene-of-trees card from her project December Trees 2018. We love the fun colors and dimension on this spread!

On her spread, City Sidewalks Documenter Kit 2, Pam embellished a sweet black and white photo with three colorful puffy heart stickers from the kit. We love the pop of color it adds to that corner of her page!

Journaling Prompts | City Sidewalks

Journaling is a great way to capture the details that make up your everyday life. Whether you're telling in-depth stories or simply captioning a photo, your words are important to preserving your memories for years to come. The following journaling prompts are perfect for pairing with this month's City Sidewalks Kit, or just tuck them into your back pocket for a time when your creative mojo is low. Either way, we hope they’ll help inspire your next project!

Tie in a quote.

On her spread, Wonder, Lisa used the quote in her notebook to spark her story: "It is happiness to wonder, it is happiness to dream." –Edgar Allan Poe. This simple and sweet quote inspired her to tell the story of her daughter finding wonder in the rain and a reminder for herself to slow down and let her children revel in the simple things.

Simple Pleasures

France recorded a gorgeous recent sunset on her spread, Simply Amazing. Even though the days are shorter, she's still finding joy in this simple pleasure—and we love that she recorded the details in her notebook.

Lisa told the story of coming home at 2 am from a long trip to find her Christmas tree up—something her husband did for her as a "welcome home"—on her spread Sparkle. What a sweet moment captured!

On her layout, AM, Marcy recorded the simple pleasure of a calm and quiet morning and a clean kitchen. Documenting these small, sweet moments is a great way to practice gratitude and appreciation.

France wrote about her first peppermint mocha of the season and her current favorite candle on her spread, Good Stuff. These are fun details to compare season to season!

Playlist

Haley jotted down some of her favorite songs on her recent spread, Currently Playlist. This is a great prompt to repeat yearly, quarterly, or even monthly!

Goals & Dreams

Kelly told the story of her recently healthy eating journey on her spread, Dream Work Plan. The new Dream Work Plan stamp set was the perfect prompt for her journaling!

On her spread, Start Before You're Ready, Lisa journaled about her goal to push herself to try new things. This spread is sure to be a great motivation for her in the future!

Hi, everyone! I’m Melanie (JustMel here on Studio Calico) and I’m delighted to be joining the Creative Team! I’ve been a longtime fan of Studio Calico since 2010 when I used to subscribe to the Scrapbook Kits and create 12" x 12" layouts. I live in beautiful Eastern Canada with my three daughters and wonderful husband, who are such good sports at making sure to help me in my quest of storytelling and documenting. By day, I work outside of the home and try to schedule my crafty time during a quiet evening or early on a weekend morning. I love sitting at my craft table before everyone gets up and spending time crafting while enjoying a warm cup of coffee.

I’ve been scrapbooking for over 14 years. My work has evolved from traditional 12" x 12" layouts to 9" x 12" Documenter pages and now traveler’s notebooks. My love of paper started at a very young age when I started hoarding a collection of notepads and fruit scented pens and evolved when I became a mother and wanted to document every milestone achieved by my daughters. My design style is eclectic, from complex multilayers and mixed media projects to simple TN spreads. I love and want to do it all!

My current go-to format for documenting is a traveler’s notebook (TN) and 6" x 8" monthly documenting. I love how a TN enables me to combine my love of scrapbooking and storytelling; it gives me the creative outlet I need all the while telling those meaningful everyday stories.

As for documenting, I’ve recently made the switch to monthly 6" x 8" format, as a weekly 9" x 12" format no longer felt manageable for me. Having a monthly approach to documenting has given me the freedom to document as many or as few stories as I can. I can recap a weekend away with the family with one spread and I get to showcase the pictures that really make me happy. This new approach has definitely given me the creative freedom I needed.

I look forward to sharing my projects with you!

Hello there! I'm Ashley and I'm from southern Alabama. I've been married to my husband, Tyler, for almost 20 years (June 19th will be our anniversary!), and we have three kids: Madison, Emma, and Reese. I've been a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom for the past 10 years and homeschool teacher for seven years. It's challenging, but we really love the way this works out for our family. We love being on our own schedule and having the ability to travel whenever we want to throughout the year.

Most of my free time is spent in my craft area. I may be working on projects, creating designs, or watching some of my favorite crafters on YouTube. Scrapbooking is a part of my day every day. I also enjoy reading and cooking, so I try to find the time to balance out my favorite hobbies during the week.

I've always enjoyed creating things but didn't officially start scrapbooking until 2006. I thought I would try it out as a way to document photos of our daughter rather than doing the typical baby book. I immediately fell in love with it and I haven't stopped since! When I first started, all of my layouts were double-page mirror-image layouts. I've come a long way since then, and over the years, I've created different styles of layouts, cards, home decor projects, mini books, and traveler's notebooks.

After so many years of crafting, I have to say that I've always loved creating single-page layouts the most. I usually like to focus on one photo and mix a variety of patterned papers and embellishments. I also like to try different techniques on my layouts like hand stitching, mixed media, and die cutting. These are my favorite ways to tell the story of the photo on my layout because I usually don't add journaling on my 12" x 12" layouts.

These days, I've discovered a new love...traveler's notebooks! They are right up there with my love of 12" x 12" layouts. The format of a traveler's notebook is so much fun to work with. It's an easy way for me to document everyday photos and I can create a layout in my TN so much faster than a layout. I also find that I journal more in the traveler's notebook and I love to incorporate stamping on my pages. It's great to have variety in my crafting, and being able to go from working on a layout to a TN layout helps to keep me feeling creative.

The kits and products from Studio Calico also help to keep me feeling creative, and one of my favorite projects is a layout using a mix of the Color Theory alpha stickers. This was such an easy layout to put together, but I love the impact the color from the alpha stickers adds to my page. And the chipboard pieces and epoxy stickers were the perfect embellishments to complete the layout.

I'm really looking forward to being a part of the Studio Calico Creative Team! I've had so much fun creating with SC products over the years, meeting and being inspired other crafters, and being a part of SC classes. I can't wait to share projects and inspiration with the Studio Calico community!

In the Scraplift This blog post, we'll highlight some of these scraplift-worthy pages and provide tips and tricks for applying their techniques to your next project!

This month's Scraplift This page comes from CT member, France Wisniewski. Her Simply Amazing notebook spread features a horizontal photo stretching across both pages and a fun vertical title!

Here's what France had to say about her project:

I used only this month's Traveler's Notebook Kit to complete this layout. I especially love how the subtle offset stamped title came out.

Tips for Scraplifting this design:

Don't be afraid to use a large horizontal photo. When you cut it in half, be sure to avoid focal points such as someone's face.
A vertical title always makes a big impact. Try out France's subtle offset stamping technique!
Arrange your embellishments in a visual triangle to keep the viewer's eye moving around the page. France achieved this with her heart stickers.
Mirror some elements for a stunning sense of balance. We love how France positioned her journaling opposite the large quote.

Hi, everyone! I'm Jen and I live in San Diego with my three-year-old daughter. I work full time in engineering during the day but at night, you can usually find me at my desk, making a mess. Besides memory keeping, I have a huge love of the outdoors and being active as well.

I've always been into crafty activities from a young age, mostly making cards and mini albums. I collected lots of paper, pens, and stickers, which I still do today to some extent. When I got older, I had some friends who were making traditional layouts and were trying to convince me to do it with them, but I never did. It wasn't until the birth of my daughter in 2015 that I felt the need to document all the changes in our lives and revisited scrapbooking. Since I hardly had any spare time with a newborn, I started with pocket pages. I loved the ease and convenience of just slipping photos into pockets and writing down the stories that went with them.

Through some maze of internet searching on a night when the baby kept me up, I came upon the Studio Calico website. I was amazed to find a company producing such beautiful, modern products, unlike anything I had seen in stores, that seemed to fit in with the style I was looking for. I also found a whole community of like-minded creatives and am still inspired by many of them to this day!

I've been actively memory keeping for the past few years now and my love for it has only grown. I love that this hobby has given me a place to write down the stories I might otherwise forget, a place to put the photos I might otherwise leave on a hard drive, and a place to put the bits of ephemera that might otherwise clutter my house. And the bonus is that my family has some lovely books filled with memories to look through!

Recently, I've started using traveler's notebooks which I enjoy as well. I like the challenge of thinking outside the pocket and the freedom to try designs on a different canvas. I was so happy when Studio Calico decided to start their own TN Kit and have been loving the kits so far!

I'm thrilled and honored to be joining the Creative Team for 2019, and I can't wait to share some projects with you!

Hello, everyone! My name is Heba; I’m a mother of two teenagers and a wife to a wonderful husband. My husband and I own a small medical supply company that keeps my husband traveling and me working from home. I love that I’m able to work from home; I get to see my kids go off to school and welcome them home when they get back. I live in the beautiful state of Georgia, far from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta. I'm a total homebody that loves to read and loves to watch reruns of Friends. But by far my favorite thing to do is crafting. I also love sharing my crafty projects on my YouTube channel and Instagram.

Back in 2001 When I gave birth to my first born, I started keeping a little scrapbook album for him. It wasn’t your traditional scrapbook album. It was more of journaling milestones and documenting pictures with dates. I also did the same with my daughter once she was born. But in 2007, I moved to Dubai and became really good friends with my next door neighbor who was an avid scrapbooker. Once she shared her beautiful scrapbooking layouts with me, I was hooked.

My crafting journey started with creating traditional scrapbooking layouts. But in 2011, I found Project Life® and I completely switch to pocket page memory keeping. I also immediately subscribed to Studio Calico’s Documenter Kit and documented our daily lives in pocket pages. Using Studio Caicos kits really helped me tell my stories while keeping my layouts simple and easy to put together.

In 2016, I found traveler’s notebooks! :) I was so excited to be able to create layouts outside the pocket again. I didn’t know how much I missed creating layouts until I found traveler’s notebooks. I love the small size of these notebooks; you'll never feel overwhelmed or intimidated by them. You can create a spread in no time at all. Some of my favorite memories were recorded in a traveler’s notebook.

After being a huge fan and subscriber to Studio Calico for so long, you can only imagine how excited I am to be a part of their Creative Team. It’s such an honor to be able to share my projects with you. I hope my projects inspire to use your Studio Calico kits in your pocket pages or traveler’s notebooks.

Product Spotlight | Heart Stickers

The heart stickers in the City Sidewalks Traveler's Notebook Kit are the perfect embellishment for any page! With great sentiments for accompanying journaling or photos and a variety of cool blue shades, this sweet sticker collection is great for all of your projects. Check out all the ways the Creative Team members are using the heart stickers from December's kit in their projects this month.

On her spread Wonder, Lisa cut the ends off of two hearts and adhered them with a tiny attacher above her journaling. We love the tone-on-tone effect she created by including them on her dark blue notebook page.

On her project Swallow Cliff, Maggie used lots of her heart stickers to create a stunning border on her page. By having them all hang off the side of the page slightly, she created interest and dimension!

Haley decorated the labels housing her journaling on her spread, Current Playlist, with a variety of heart stickers from the Traveler's Notebook Kit. We love the result!

France added a heart sticker to a ticket to embellish the upper corner of her spread, Simply Amazing. Two more stickers on the right page perfectly finish off her design.

Maggie added just a few scattered heart stickers to her spread LTHS Dive 2018. They are sweet embellishments that help maintain the monochromatic color scheme of her project!

Lisa used two heart stickers at the bottom of the page to tie in the colors of her spread, Simply Amazing. This technique helps to create a cohesive design.

On her spread Win/Win, Haley added one larger heart sticker to the side of her photo. This simple embellishment was all that she needed to complete the page.

On her spread Over and Over, France chose a light blue heart sticker to tie into the color of her photo and ticket embellishment from the opposite page. We love her color scheme!

Pam added a single heart sticker to the journaling tag on her spread, City Sidewalks TN. This simple technique leaves a stunning result.

Haley used three heart stickers to embellish the left page of her spread, Totally Amazing. It's a great match for her green background.

On her project S & B, Kelly filled a couple of ticket embellishments with heart stickers. We love this fun finishing touch.

Lisa used a pair of heart stickers to dress up her spread, Sparkle. By attaching one of the stickers with two tiny attacher staples, she added the perfect amount of texture to her page!

Thanksgiving 2018 by Maggie Massey

I used the yellow frame stickers from the Traveler's Notebook Kit to create a background for my black & white photo—which is incredibly blurry, I know, but was the best one we took that day ;)—and then used some of my favorite designs from this month's stamp subscription to help finish the spread. Finally, I stamped a few more yellow stars, again from the stamp sub.

Enjoy Little Things by Sarah Zayas

For this layout, I used the City Sidewalks stamp set and TN Kit. I love all of the shapes and sentiments in this stamp set! I used the circles to create a pattern around the edge of my page and had some circles come off the edge and interlock with one another. I also used the box that was included in the stamp set to create a nice boundary for my journaling. I like to remind myself that it's totally fine to just keep it simple sometimes. :)

I always gravitate to soft blues in the winter and the City Sidewalks Documenter Kit had plenty of lovely shades of icy blue. I loved the large die-cut circles and had fun stamping on two of them. I used a fair share of digital elements directly on to my photos prior to printing as well. It's something I haven't done in a while so it was fun to play with a little Hybrid action again.

Totally Amazing by Haley Pettit

Starting with a black and white photo, I knew I wanted this layout to be simple and minimal. I love how the large label from the stamp sub fit perfectly in the TN insert, so I stamped it four times to create a special place for some journaling. I added a few phrase stamps just to give it a little more interest, a couple heart stickers to add another color, and that was it for this layout! So simple, but I love how it turned out.

Hello Lovely by Barbara Picinich

There is something extra special about bokeh photos during the holidays, so when I saw the page in the traveler's notebook, I knew I had just the right photo to pair with it. I kept the spread simple and added in some sentiments stamped with the stamp subscription set on the labels and stickers from the kit. I used the digital files of the number stamps to add the date right on to my photo before printing and I love how that looks against the photo of the tree.

Good Stuff by Kelly Noel

This stripe pattern in this month's notebook is my FAVE! I had this photo of Sawyer that matched perfectly, so I printed it 3" x 4" and documented a few things about him right now. The phrases in the stamp subscription set were perfect for adding lots of detail underneath my photo. One of the buildable portions of the set was the perfect topper for my journaling!

Sunday Sketch

This week our scrapbook sketch is a 9" x 12" layout featuring a horizontal photo over layered paper and embellishments in the bottom half of the page and journaling on a tag at the top. Our notebook sketch showcases a vertical photo on the left page and a large title with listed journaling on the right page. And our pocket page sketch features a 3" x 4" title card with a heart embellishment and a 3" x 4" photo with a speech bubble caption in the upper right-hand corner.

Stamps are the perfect low-bulk embellishment for any project! This month, the Creative Team put the Document Winter, Document Numbers, and Dream Plan Work stamp set to work with their City Sidewalks Kits to create gorgeous projects. Take a look below at what they did with these three versatile stamp sets!

Document Winter

From New Year’s to St. Patrick’s Day, record the first season of the year with the perfect stamp set to match! Buildable shapes, sweet icons, and fun phrases make up this quarterly release featuring all the highlights from January, February, and March. Pair this set with the 4x6 Document Number stamp set to date your memories in perfectly coordinating style.

Marcy used the Document Winter stamp set to record the first snowfall of the year on her spread, Winter. Using the three boxed word stamps from the set, she was able to create her own custom patterned background.

Marie created a DIY "winter" embellishment for her notebook spread, Day in the City, using the Document Winter stamp set. We also love the simple caption she stamped under her photo!

The mix-and-match hexagon stamps from the Document Winter stamp set are great for making a unique patterned page in your notebook like Sarah did on her spread, So Very Lucky. The phrase stamps from the set were the perfect finishing touch.

A simple, stamped "counting my lucky stars" was all Pam needed to embellish the full-page photo on her spread, City Sidewalks TN. We love the result!

The falling snowflakes from the Document Winter stamp set were the perfect pair for Kelly's photo from her spread, Hello Winter. Her custom stamped embellishment on the opposite page ties the whole spread together!

On her spread, Snow 02, Lisa combined the Document Winter stamp set with Document Numbers to record the second snowfall of the year. These two set coordinate perfectly to tell all your seasonal stories!

Lisa used the Document Numbers stamp set to showcase the progress of her home renovation on her spread, Day 75. We love the subtle accents of the asterisk scattered around her page!

On her project, Holiday Movie Tickets, Candace used the Document Numbers stamp set and the City Sidewalks Kit to highlight all the holiday movies her family loves to watch during December. We love this idea!

Dream Plan Work

If you can dream it, you can do it! Start working on those dreams with the Dream Plan Work stamp set! This set offers a great mix of encouragement and positivity that’s sure to help you reach all your goals.

On her spread, Get to Work, Marie used the Dream Plan Work stamp set to embellish her story of balancing her normal routine with getting ready for the holidays. The coffee stamp paired with the hustle phrase is perfect for this project!
