I’m super busy at the moment preparing things for Format Festival. Unseen are taking part in the collectives encounter, which includes a round table talk, photo-market and exhibition. I’ve not been to previous Formats, which is shocking since it’s so close to home. This year is shaping up to be the best yet and I’m really excited about all the events and exhibitions. Things have been quiet here for a few weeks. Quite frankly I’ve been busy doing Christmassy things, working a lot and feeling very cold. But you can expect a big update and lots of new work before I sack everything off completely until the new year. Here’s a taster:

Unseen are excited to be presenting a diverse collection of slideshows showcasing the work of 30 photographers from across the world. Also on show will be several new photographic installations, commissioned specially for this event.

The event is free, and there will be mulled wine, samosas and very possibly a bonfire.

Please note that the slideshows will start at 7.30pm sharp.

Preparations for the first Unseen Slideshow evening are well under way. I will post 
more information about it all next week, but for now I am unable to write much as my keyboard had an accident involving pomegranate juice and the space bar has 
given up the ghost. Most inconvenient.

It’s that time again: 

“The 5th Annexinema will be in the same venue as before on Dakeyne Street off Carlton Road. The studios are now run by a new group of artists, Backlit, and this event coincides with the opening of their first exhibition, featuring work by Dan Tombs and Simon Raven.

Annexinema 5 will feature a live performance by Dan Tombs, plus videos by Andrew Twiggs, Kenneth Anger, René Laloux, Leon Carter and the film ‘A Day in the Life of a Coalminer.’”

In the midst of a long overdue autumn cleaning of my desk I came across Laura Edith Guy’s card and was immediately taken back to seeing her strange combination of book art and photography at Free Range. I’m always interested in objects that are built to be tactile and this was definitely no exception. Her series A Study in Grey was definitely one of the things on show at Free Range that stayed with me for a long time afterwards. Unforuntately it’s impossible to get an idea of exactly how the piece works just by looking at her website, but I suggest you do so nonetheless.

Just a short post to let you know that one of my fellow Unseen members, James Homer, has an exhibition of his Petrol Stations in Kaunas from 10th September until 10th October. There’s lots of other stuff going on as well in the run up to the Kaunas Photo Festival. You can see the website here, but so far I’ve been unsuccessful in finding an english translation of the site.
