‘Life of Pi’ – A Ticket for Stupendous Visual Treat

Elements of surrealism, breathtaking visuals of a young boy with a fierce tiger on a boat together with some twists and turns make up the superb film, “Life of Pi”. This film is based on namesake Man Booker Prize, the fiction novel by Yann Martel. No matter whether you have already the story or not, watching this 3D movie is a real lifetime experience that comes to you once in a lifetime.

Hearing the narration of the youth retelling the tale of his survival after a destructive shipwreck is very aspiring. “You don’t know the strength of your faith until it’s tested” – this is one of the dialogues of Irfan Khan, which forms the plot of the entire movie beginning from Pi’s struggle with the ravenous tiger up to the end of the adventure thrilled voyage.

Watch the movie and some of the scenes will definitely tell you that it was the test of Pi’s faith in all sense. The phase when Pi deals with the brutal tiger and trains him or the phase when Pi is forced to gobble raw meat despite being one strict vegetarian truly portrays Pi’s test of faith.

‘Life of Pi’ similar to ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ – is it so? In many respects a comparison is made between the two. But how can they be compared? Pi and Gulliver both embarked on sea voyage and both ends up discovering some important fact after the sea voyage.

If you want to talk about the performance of Suraj Sharma, it can be described in a single word – ‘speechless’. Remarkable artfulness is being shown in the role he played. Irrfan Khan, on the other hand, crafts himself well and prominently plays the narrator’s role.

Well, the end is not so impressive and that is where it lays back. After so much dramatic twists and captivating surprises, it is quite naturally expected that the ending will be an astounding one. But the end was disappointing – it was too sober for the story. It seems that the makers were short of their creative skills at the end.

Google Inc; made its foray into the market for bundled Internet and television services with promising access speeds more than 100 times faster than traditional US cable and telecommunications.

The search engine giant will start its ultra high speed internet service Google Fiber in Kansas city, Missouri. Installations will be deployed in Kansas from September 2012 and later Google hope to roll out its services to other cities later.

Section 80C:
Under section 80C of Income tax Act, upto Rs. 1,00,000 are non-taxable if your invest or buy the following instruments (upto maximum of 1 Lakh). For example if you earn 5 Lakh per annum and if you invest 1 Lakh total in 80C instruments then the taxable about is 4 Lakh.

Notes:
1: ULIP premium needs to be at least 1/5th of the sum assured to qualify under Section 80C
2: PPF returns are set by the Government of India and can be revised either upwards or downwards in any year.

Section 80D: Health Insurance Premium
You can take advantage of an annual deduction of Rs. 15,000 from taxable income for payment of Health Insurance premium for self and dependants. For senior citizens, this deduction is Rs. 20,000.

Section 80E: Interest paid on educational loans

You can claim a deduction on the interest paid on loans taken for higher education for yourself, your spouse and children. There is no limit on the amount of deduction you can claim.
The only thing to keep in mind is that the program for which the loan is taken should be a graduate or post-graduate program in engineering, medicine or management or a post-graduate course in the pure or applied sciences.

Section 80G: Donations to Charitable institutions

You can claim a deduction for any donation that you might have made to a charitable fund or institution. However, please note that these donations should be made only to specified institutions. And a proper proof of payment must be provided for the same. Based on the classification of the charity, you can claim either 100% or 50% of the donated amount as deduction. The deduction might also be subject to a certain limit again based on the type of charity that you are donating money

Section 24: Interest paid on housing loan

Under Section 24, a maximum of Rs 1,50,000 can be deducted from your taxable income as interest repayment for a self occupied house. Please note that this deduction is not available if you the house is still under construction and you do not have occupation of the house.

Provisions that you should take advantage of if you are a salaried employee:

Section 10(13A) : House Rent Allowance

You can take advantage of the provisions under this section if you are renting an accommodation. These provisions will not be available to you if you stay in a rent-free accommodation or live with your family or in your own house.
Under Section 10(13A), HRA is exempt to the least of the following:
i) 50/40 per cent of basic salary= Dearness Allowance (if, applicable),
ii) excess of rent paid over 10 per cent of basic salary; and
iii) actual HRA received.

Lets illustrate this calculation with an example:
Assumptions:
HRA per month = Rs 15,000
Basic monthly salary = Rs 30,000
Monthly rent = Rs 14,000
Rental accommodation is in Delhi.

Exemption:
The HRA exemption would be the least of the following:

1. Actual amount of HRA: Rs 15,000
2. 50% of salary (basic component + dearness allowance) = 50% x (30,000 + 0) = Rs 15,000
3. Actual rent paid - 10% of salary (basic component + dearness allowance)= Rs 14,000 - [10% of (30,000 + 0)] = 14,000 – 3,000 = Rs 11,000
Rs 11,000 being the least of the three amounts will be the exemption from HRA.
The balance HRA of Rs 4,000 (15,000-11,000) would be taxable.
Please note that HRA exemptions are only available on submission of rent receipts or the rent agreement.

Paying Rent to parents or relatives
If you want to pay rent to your parents or any relatives (like uncle/cousin) whom you are staying with. You will need to treat them as landlords. And request the owner of the house (which will be one of your parents) to declare it in his/ her personal income tax return. This will prevent any litigation in the future.

Section 10 (14) Rule 2BB(10) : Transport Allowance
Transport allowance granted for commuting between your residence and place of work is exempt up to Rs. 800 a month. You can take advantage of this provision to get a tax exemption of Rs 9600 annually by providing your employer with bills or a self declaration.

Section 17(2) : Medical Reimbursement
You can claim exemption up to Rs 15,000 annually on actual expenditure incurred on your medical treatment or for treatment of any of your dependents. Moreover, there is no restriction of approved hospitals or clinic for the same. This is exempt only on provision of actual bills.
However, if the amount is paid out as an allowance not a reimbursement then it would be fully taxable.

Nokia's latest Windows based mobile phone going to release in this month, December 2011. Nokia opens the pre-order for Lumia 800. The first look of the phone will definitely attract your eyes with its cool colours and trendy design.

The phone was equipped with 1.4 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM running on Windows Mango (7.5) with 3.7 inch AMOLED multi-touch screen which supports 3D graphics, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor. How to Recover Accidentally Deleted Bookmarks in Google Chrome

The Actual problem in Google chrome bookmark is that the ‘rename’ option is right before the ‘delete’ option. Sometimes, we might click the delete option and then our bookmarks are gone. No option is there to restore them back.

The following steps will help you to recover the deleted bookmarks. Note: The trick only works if you haven’t closed Google Chrome after accidentally deleted your bookmarks.

Step 1: Click the Computer icon on your desktop and locate the following folder:

For Xp users : C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

For Vista users : C:\Users\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

For Windows 7 users : C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

Step 2: Such Chrome folder contains all of your saved profiles as well as its settings and bookmarks.

Step 3: Locate the Bookmarks.bak file.

Step 4: Right-click the Bookmarks.bak file and paste it on any other folder of your choice.

Step 5: Now, remove the back extension from the file name.Done! You have just recovered all your accidentally deleted bookmarks.

[Fix] External/Flash Drive Folders Changed to Shortcuts by Virus

Is you pendrive or external disk is showing shortcut files instead of the original folders? This is because due to the virus. This virus makes the folders hide and creates the shortcuts.
The good side of this virus is that they don’t delete the actual content. It just hide your data in the Flash Drive. We can easily recover all the files with following steps.

Step 1: If you are affected by Shorcut Viruses, Do not format your Flash or External Drive. If you format you can’t Recover it.

Step 2: Check your Flash Drive’s Drive Letter ( Example : I: or K:)

Step 3: Click on “Start” –>Run–>type “cmd” and click on OK

Step 4: If your Flash Drive Letter is K:

then Type the below command in your “cmd” and Press “Enter”

Planning to buy a new laptop? Don't know how to start? Its easy to pick as there are so many classifications based on your requirement, but a smart option can full fill your requirements and values for the money we spend.

We can classify the requirements based on the groups:

Students:

Students always think their gadget should be handy and portable. So they can carry easily to college and lecture rooms. Students need their device that can be used for browsing, document editing. Ofcourse, it should be handy for watching movies, upload photos and for fun chatting. For such needs, Netbook is the best choice.

Netbooks come with single/dual core processors, such as Intel Atom processor. RAM with a range of 1-2 GB, which is sufficient for computing functions. Hard drives will have the capacity of 120-320GB, which take cares your most storage needs. Netbooks are light weight (about 1KG) and portable, so that you can carry easily. The only disadvantage is its screen size, netbooks comes with a size of 10-13 inches and no optical (CD/DVD drive).

However, netbooks have VGA/HDMI port so you can hook to a big LCD screen. The presence of 2 or 3 USB ports can take care of your data transfers.

Home and Small offices:

If you use laptop only for internet browsing then you can opt for 13-inch net book. However, if you want to run some softwares, photos and videos editing, gaming you need more power capable laptop. So you require more faster dual/quad processor with 2-4 GB RAM, 320GB - 500GB Hard disk. An integrated graphic card is sufficient but for gaming you can prefer ATI/NVIDIA graphic card with minimum 1GB. You can have a choice from 14-17 inches screen, select the size that is sufficient.

Price range: Rs. 30,000 - Rs. 60,000

Professional and Business:

For professionals and office goers they require high performance processor which can run multi tasking smoothly, so opt for Quad core processor and RAM with 4GB. An optical drive is essential, so you can burn data into discs and give those to your colleagues and clients. An integrated graphic card will work, but opt with a add-on graphic card. Select 14" or 15" screen, so you can work easily.
