Stuffrecords radio #01 - Dribbler - Wave Tape Mix (1990something)

Back in the day there was pure. pure was friday but there would still be 60 people hanging out from pure on a saturday night somewhere in edinburgh. the masterminds (lol) behind pure had the gumption to start a saturday night party in the same club with the same kinda four-letter name.

wave was remarkable in that u could play so much downbeat on a saturday night. i mean you could play anything at wave compared to what pure had become with all the techno getting played there.saturday was a straight up acid, dub and anything else apart from techno,(although the djax is probably techno, we'll claim it for the acid heads here.) the recording is also a good document of the time where european influences were affecting the form and the 303s were being used as lead instruments instead of rhythm section basslines. things got all noisy and "in yer face" after that. i never was with it after that, all that "dominator" shit. this is just after acid house had happened and the whole thing was snowballing in epedemic proportions, in a myriad of different forms. wave was dj dribbler, kazi m (left after starting the club), twitch and brainstorm (on alternate weeks at first, then every week). it was at the venue, carlton road edinburgh every 2nd saturday then every week. i can't remember it stopping but it did, i have no idea when. wave was great.

Ripped from tape by Neil Landstrumm.

Stuffrecords radio #04 - Mystec FM/DJ Goodhand - Live on Subcity Radio 1996

Stuffrecords originally mutated out of a Glasgow based club called Mystec we ran in the mid to late nineties, originally based in the Sub Club (before it burnt down! It wasn't us btw) then moving onto Yang, Club 69 and King Tuts. Resident djs to start with were Goodhand & Oral, soon joined by Dribbler, A-Train, Nok La Rok and Davey Red (Dirty Wriggles). Events and propaganda were spiritually overseen by Kryptic Craig and Ricky Stuff.
Other folk who played at the club include DJ Godfather, Redshift, Keith Tucker, Dave Being (The Wee Djs), Twitch, Jilkes and H'atch, Marty & Wilba, Creme De Menthe and Disco Doom.

The music selection was hugely influenced by the vinyl being sold in a Rub-a-Dub which continues to supply the platters that matter to this day. Other inspirations were the new sound of Detroit, 'Techno Bass' and also IT! Club, a precursor to Mystec run By DJ Oral, which had some great guests in the early 90's like Dr Rockit & Autechre to name a few.

We started Mystec out of boredom really. No-one was playing the records we liked and were buying at the time (Old detroit techno/Chicago stuff, and a lot of bleep/acid house). After a few years of parties, Mystec turned into Mystec Beatz then into Spanner which then became Numbers which is still going today.

This radio show contains a selection of bangers we'd play in the club in varying order week by week. Teknotika/Johhny Dangerous/DJ Funk/Aux 88/69 and Terrace amongst others.

Many thanks to Ranald and Craig who clothed the Mystec army with Spacid head T-Shirts and Mystec Beatz sweaters. Shouts out to all the spacid regulars who made Mystec what it was, you know who you are.

Ripped from cassette by Rare Lowrey.
