A nuclear bunker from the Cold War era in Britain was sold on eBay for more than 20,000 pounds (30,000 dollars, 22,000 euros) Monday.

The underground bunker in the Peak District of Derbyshire, central England, went on sale at a starting estimate of 500 pounds on Thursday, but more than 40 bids sent the price tag soaring.

The bunker came into service in 1959 and was used by the Royal Observer Corps, a civilian defence organisation composed mainly of volunteers who had the task of reporting nuclear attack and fallout.

According to the seller, the bunker is in an “elevated position with panoramic views” of the Peak District.

Built 15 feet (4.5 metres) underground on farmland, the shelter comprises of two rooms — a chemical toilet and monitoring room — and two ventilation shafts.

“A rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Cold War history,” the seller added. “Your own nuclear bunker within a plot of land and much original equipment.

As well as furniture, the buyer will also receive a siren box, enamel bucket, jerry cans and rope for hauling heavy items up the shaft.

Oh well now I simply HAVE to have one seeing as they throw in an enamel bucket! Wasn’t convinced at first, but the bucket was the clincher.

It’s become rather obvious that posting to this blog from my laptop ain’t really happening much, now is it? With that in mind I’ve been trying to set up Posting via Email since yesterday, which would allow me to update from my phone. A good idea in theory…

Well what a mission that is turning out to be! When this site was hosted by Google’s Blogger it was a simple set up of an email address and BAM! It’s done and working.

But I had to be a smartarse. I had to move over to WordPress. I had to fix it when it wasn’t broken.

Okay, it was broken, and moving over to WordPress WAS the best thing for this site, but I need to complain, mmmkay?

So if this site goes to shite over the next couple of days it’s safe to assume that I’m still (i) bashing the keyboard trying to enable posting by email, and (ii) bashing my head on the wall when it doesn’t work properly.

Well cry no more – I’m back! I was away for most of last week awaiting a special delivery – one of these:

Yup, I’m a new dad! (Just ask anyone who’s seen me strutting around the place with a permanent grin since Wednesday making sure everyone is aware that MY baby is wayyyyyy cuter than any of THEIRS.

But alas, I had to return to work today, so perhaps I’ll get back to occasionally actually posting something on this site.

… lots of restful sleep and relaxation. If however this site gets quieter than a ninja taking his Ninja Stalking Skills 101 final exam, it’s thanks to…

… no sleep due to lots of disturbed nights. This will in turn probably leave me tired, cranky (well, more so than usual) and far too lazy to write wisecracking posts.

Time will tell.

Finally! We’re starting to get somewhere: page views are starting to pick up significantly. Remember my previous post in November about reaching 10 000 page views in a mere 8 months? Well now the site has reached 10 000 views in the last month alone! Boya!

Note that it’s not 10 000 unique visitors (still a very respectable 7 399 though), but page views. Still, not too shabby if I do say so myself… (And I do.)

Ram Gopal Varma’s “Phoonk 2,” a sequel to his 2008 film of the same name, is about an evil spirit that traumatizes a family. “Anyone who says the movie cannot scare him is going to be put in a theater by himself,” Varma told reporters in Mumbai at an event to promote the movie.

Varma said the film fan who steps up to the challenge will be wired up to a heart monitoring machine as well as a camera that ensures they keep their eyes open during the whole movie.

Readings from the machines will be shown live on a screen outside the cinema, Varma said, and if the contestant succeeds, they will win 500,000 rupees (approximately $10,850).
