How to dress up your pet this Valentine's season?

Here is a great tutorial where you will learn how to take a piece of beautiful fabric and turn it into a great looking dress for your cute companion. Floral fabric and chiffon are chosen for DIY dog clothes. This kind of cool and fresh dog clothes pattern is specialized for the female dogs.

Steps

1) Cut the fabric. Select a piece of floral fabric in your favorite. Trace the template by measuring the body size of your dog; cut out the template. Overlap the two pieces as below. Cut out the shoulder and cuff; triangle shoulder and semi-circular cuff.

2) Sew the clothes. Finish the cutting; make sure the sizes of the shoulder and cuff can be in proportion with the whole clothes size. Align the two pieces; sew the shoulders at the innersides. Fold the collar and cut it to a round shape; trim to fit your dog's neck circumstance

3) Go on sewing the lower part of the clothes at the inner side; turn the right side out. Fold the clothes at the sides with the inner piece out; cut out a triangle at the hem as it is shown below. Turn the shape inside out as the image shows. Cut out a chiffon strip.

4) Hem the cuffs and collar. Align the chiffon strip with the collar fabric; sew the edges. Fold the chiffon covered place in half inwards; sew the folded edges; leave redundant chiffon at the collar. Hem the cuffs in the same way. Make sure all the chiffon strips are stitched with drapes.

And.. Ta.. Daa.. its ready!! doesn't it look super cute <3

Valentine's day is around the corner and most of you are wondering what to wear. And let's be practical! Not everyone can wear a dress for a 'day look' or strut around in high heels and not everyone would wear an 'All Red' look either. For all those who do not like wearing all Red (just like me!), here's an outfit that has red accents and not overdone with red!

This shirt I picked was from Romwe.com that has these cute swans all over, teamed with a neutral shaded trouser, it looks perfect for the red colour blasts.

That necklace caught my eye the first time I saw it on Romwe.com. I love how intricate the details are and the colour of course!

The shoes I picked were of a quilted and flat toed one with bows and stone details

DIY: Punk up your bag

Do it yourself: Adding a Punk look to your otherwise boring Black Faux Leather Tote

I finally finished the assignment of giving a Punk look to my Black and boring Tote. Here's a brief illustration of the same so that you could do it yourself ;)

What you would need?

A Bag, a few Studs with clamps, Scissors.

Steps :

First please choose the clamps you would want to use. I chose ones in contrast hues i.e. white metal and dull gold. also in 2 different sizes.

Arrange them in the way you want them fastened

Now to affix them onto the bag, nudge the clamp into the bag's surface so as to not leave additional marks on the surface.

Now turn the bag over and bend each of the clamp's tooth so that they are fastened on the bag

Go on doing the same with each of the clamps

Wallaahh!! Here's your bag looking all new !! :)

Hello Everyone! This post is about how all you hourglass shaped women can dress yourselves in Leopard Prints. I styled my friend who is almost a petite hourglass in these ahhhmazing Leopard Print Trousers. First off if you are petite pick a leopard print that is small and uniform. That way you wouldn't get drowned in the prints.

Like I keep saying Hourglass shape can pull of most of the looks so I paired this trouser with a Black T for a casual night in the club look. Kept the accessories in a neutral tone, those pearled layers, stilettos, watch and bracelet included.

Blender's Pride Bangalore Fashion Week 10th Edition: Day 3 and Day 4

DAY 3:

The young and vibrant designer Shloka Sudhakar showcased her collection for the opening show on DAY 3. The collection is a plethora of beautifully constructed sarees, anarkalis, lehengas and cocktail dresses. The use of gutsy colours and combinations besides the use of the finest fabrics took the leading role. The fabulous show ended with a shout out to all the women: WEAR YOUNG. FEEL YOUNG. STAY YOUNG.

ANIYA by Taniya Sagwan is a reflection of the experiences in the design industry. A couture label with a range carefully constructed and pieced ensembles. Taniya Sagwan’s work has been adorned on the red carpets of the OSCAR AWARDS and has also been a constant showcase in the Paris and Milan fashion weeks.

Bangalore’s favourite designer Ramesh Dembla showcased his collection SOUL SHINE with a Yakshagana (Karnataka folk dance) performance. The collection is an inspiration from all things that makes the designer happy. Like the colour red and the passion, the mystery and suprise of black and the glamour and opulence with gold/silver. The definition of ornamentation was redefined with an interesting use of sequins and beads. It was a play of contours as tassels and drapes in striking reds and floor length dresses took centerstage. The menswear line is for who's just as dapper, who has a sense of style and created a niche for himself. Chic jackets made of a combination of printed wool and velvets exuded elegance. Fukrey fame Vishaka Singh walked the ramp for Ramesh Dembla in a black and red lehenga which truly a personification of beauty on earth.

Kolkata designer Abhishek Dutta is already a glittering star on Kolkata's fashion firmament. The designer’s distinctive style is the fusion of ancient embroidery with futuristic cuts. This season the collection showcased his mastery over detailing. His love for handloom and natural fabrics personifies an unmistakable combination of bohemian freedom with subtle sensitivity.

The highlight was Sandalwood star Pooja Gandhi walking the ramp for Abhisek Dutta supporting the talented designer.

DAY 4:

Roohafza keeps it traditional, while Rwitti Roy plays with bold prints; Aslam Khan expresses his love for surface ornamentation; Manoviraj Khosla grooves the audience with a live band and a lively collection

The finale day saw the opening by Rwitti Roy. The label Rwiti™ inspired by Indian folk and pop art the bags are vibrant, vivacious and spirited. Combining different textures of fabric and leather, with bold graphics and sophisticated designs Rwiti™ collection was a head turner.

Designer Roohafza , qualified in finance degree, but transformed into designer by passion The collection is a plethora of ensembles in pure silks, Georgette, Chiffon delicately done up zardozi and appliqué work on kalamkari print.

Aslam Khan’s models showcased voluminous embroidered lehengas with elaborate borders. Gotta was extensively used to accentuate the appeal of leheria lehengas, as they glittered with Swarovski; a perfect attire for any Indian bride. The Patiala shalwars in brocade and net swayed to the notes of BFW tunes paying homage to the rich culture and large-hearted people of Punjab.

With a live band performance by ‘One Night Stand’ Manoviraj Khsola’s collection showcase got the crowd grooving to the retro tunes.

The collection is a tribute to Bangalore since this was the 10^th edition of the Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week. Primarily a party collection…something you would wear for a night out in town with friends. It is a fun, party collection meant to be worn when fun is the only thing in your mind.

There is a wide range of vibrant colors used that rightly showcase the light heartedness of the collection. There is a good blend of linen, velvet, silks and organzas and sequin fabric for women.

Tulip Joshi stunned the audience with her presence as a showstopper for Manoviraj Khosla.

Blender's Pride Bangalore Fashion Week - Day 1 and Day 2

Blenders Pride makes the 10^th edition of Bangalore Fashion Week Summer/Showers 2014 more stylish

DAY 1:

The opening show fabulous TR technique work by Vidya Vivek. Her collection ‘Chisel’ architecture inspired collection, 3D projections of nature and monuments are the main inspiration for this range. For more pictures click on the photographs below and they will take you to the Picture album.

The designer label ‘gkb’ by Gunkiran Kaur displayed a collection of ethnic wear with a blend to suit the needs of the modern women.

Michelle Salins collection is fun, freckled and for any woman who loves sun shine.

The Day 1 closed with the showcase of Jattinn Kochhar’s Me & I collection. The collection reflects duality in lives. The dark side coexisting with the bright side just like a mirror reflection. The collection has been conceptualized and designed keeping the eclectic and truly urban taste of Bangalore city.

Day 2:

The DAY 2 of Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week opened with exquisite luxury resort couture line from SOIREE COUTURE by Disha & Menaka. The ensembles are a beautiful collection of hand embellished gowns, embroidered palazzos, catsuit inspired outfits and dresses.

The silhouettes are inspired by the various aspects of the lily, which forms the crux and the keynote of the collection. The garments are airy and flowy, occasionally voluminous and three dimensional with fabric manipulation.

Followed by Lalita & Amit ‘DAKSH’ a label launched in 2007 by the Rohtak based designer duo. Both the designers have a strong personal vision of their design range, which has been reinforced by their hands-on approach, and by their insight into how a garment can transform the person wearing it.

DAKSH clothing is striking for its use of exceptional, sensuous fabrics coupled with creative possibilities of various fabrics.

Fresh, sexy and beautifully wearable, DAKSH clothing draws on the romance of the past to create an elegant, contemporary vision of what women want to wear right now.

APHRODITE by Prabhat Kumar is done in highly soft materials, environment friendly leather mixed with the strongest of emotions giving you a sense of true luxury in itself. Prabhat Kumar started career in designing with reality show ,”lets design season 3”, followed by Lakme Fashion Week , Summer resort, and the latest being Bangalore fashion week this season.

The closing show was by REHANE, who hails from of the honourable Khaleeli family, is known for her use of rich, classy fabrics and culture conscious prints which come together to create a graceful, yet exquisite ensembles.

Her design philosophy is a perfect culmination of bold yet delicate. Rehane’s collection for Blenders Pride Bangalore fashion Week brought together a picturesque combination of flamboyance, edgy cuts, multiple hues and ornamentation.

Recycled Cuff Bracelet

This cuff bracelet idea was born after I saw something very similar worn by a friend. Also I had gotten bored of my bracelet and this was the perfect way to give it a new lease of life. It took me all of 10 minutes. You could further turn it into a new looking bracelet by just changing the fabric cover.

Supplies that I used:

An old cuff bracelet

An old cotton top (once my favorite)

Open ended black colored chain

Fabric glue

Scissors

This was how I went about it :

Cut a rectangular piece of fabric approximately the size of the bracelet. Also include 2 inches allowance on each side to fold.

Wrap the fabric around the bracelet covering it completely, like gift wrapping a present.

· Tuck all raw edges in so as the finish is neat and clean. Use fabric glue and make sure it does not unravel.

Wrap the chain from one end to the other and then wrap back again to get a criss-cross pattern.

Both the ends of the chain should now meet at the point where you started from.

Tie the chain like a ribbon and make a bow. I wanted a little loose chain on one side and I glued it up after a knot.

· And it is Done !

Finally another Menswear Post! This post will talk about Oxford Shoes as a Formal wear.

Did you know that Oxfords are a 1920's throwback ?? They were a Man's everyday shoes back then, which now is a fashion statement. According to Wikipedia: Oxfords first appeared in Scotland and Ireland, where they are occasionally called Balmorals after the Queen's castle in Scotland, Balmoral. However, the shoe took up the name Oxfords after Oxford University. This shoe style appeared in the US during the 19th Century and has been admired ever since.

Casual Maxi: Fall Trend

It's cold out here in Bangalore! I guess Black is my 'Go-to' Colour when its cold. So I picked up this maxi with a thigh-high slit and a Leopard print and styled a friend of mine in it.

It doesn't need much of accessories as the Gold print is very heavy for casual wear. So I like to keep all the accessories simple and in the colour Black.

All you need is a black saddle bag with some gold details, a belt with a golden buckle and a pair of 'Mary Jane' shoes with golden buckles as well.

Indian Ethnic: Kanchipuram Silk Saree and Dhothi

How to dress for a South Indian Wedding?

First of all, A Very Happy New Year to y'all from all of us here. We wish that the year brings you joy, prosperity and success.

The wedding season has not come to and end yet and I can not get enough of these lovely Kanchi Sarees. The dress code for a South Indian Wedding is a 'Kanchipuram Silk Saree'. Just like how Deepika Padukone is styled in the movie 'Chennai Express' but of course minus the jewellery (coz she's the bride). Where as the men wear a Silk Dhothi (and no its not called a Lungi, Lungi's are the Cotton ones) and Silk Kurta.

Here's how me and my husband styled ourselves to attend a cousin's wedding:

I picked a rose pink and gold border saree with rose motifs all over and styled it with those Ram Leela earings and a Mojri stiletto. My husband wore a Silk Dhothi with a Maroon Silk Kurta and a pair of Faux Croc Leather Sandals.

Aren't those beautiful !! (-_-)

Since the saree was heavy I kept the accessories simple like a Bindi , a few bangles a simple necklace and a Dull Gold Clutch.

Sarees can be worn by any body shape; the secret to this is by choosing the right print, zari and the draping technique.

As far as prints are concerned small prints have to be worn by the Apple shaped, Pear Shaped and Inverted Triangle body types. Larger prints and border would look good on tall and athletic body types. The Hourglass body type can choose from either small or moderate prints and Zari.

Textured Fabric Necklace

I love wearing bright colors and working with colorful fabrics. White is somehow not my favorite. But I found this really pretty embroidered white fabric and I wanted to make something out of it.

When I had the idea for this necklace, the white fabric seemed perfect .And its a really simple necklace which took me only an hour to make.

So here it is :-
You will need

Textured fabric in any color ,
An assortment of buttons and beads .I have chosen all white for this particular piece .

This is how I put it together .

Basically I have traced out different shapes and cut 4 - 5 pieces of each shape .I have used a bottle which has a triangular shape on the top and bottom , and a small lid .Also I cut up some squares in just about the same size.

Stack the cut layers of fabric neatly as below.

Sew the center and place your bead/button.

This is how my finished flowers look.They have a few extra embellishments compared to the Supplies picture. I was going for a slightly asymmetric look and have arranged it in this order. Have also included two woolen balls to balance the look.

Overlap the layers on the bottom and sew in place. Attach the chain to the ends of the necklace with a hand-stitch or fabric glue.

Done !!!

Palazzos with Bling and Neon

Palazzos are trousers that flair out from the waist and are extremely loose made from light and flowy materials.

Did you know Palazzos were a popular trend in 1960s and early 1970s! During the 1930s and 1940s actresses like Greta Garbo and Katharine Hepburn, who were fond of Avant Garde fashion popularised this trend.

Although they are popular as a summer trend you can still wear them for the 'Fall 2013' by bringing in some 'Bling' and 'Neon' elements.

This particular palazzo has vertical lines and I styled it with a black top with sequins on it. The accessories I chose were in Neon Orange colour. The envelope clutch however had blue, beige, gold and neon orange on its rear.

Boots: Fall13 Essentials

For the Fall13 'Boots' is a must-have. Here are a few picks I have in mind for the Fall here in India.

Basics:

1) Knee High Boots

Something that never goes out of fashion and a must-have at that. These brown boots will make you look slimmer and keep you warm at the same time.

2) Wedges:

If you do not like the high stiletto heels consider wearing the wedges, comfy yet stylish.

3) Green Mid-Calf Army Boots

This one is my favourite pair. You can wear them with a Skinnies or Skirts or Sundresses to give the outfit an androgynous feel.

4) Tan Shoes

Tan is a must have colour 'coz it goes well with almost any shade of Outfit. I love the ‘Collar’ and the ‘Button’ details in this pair.

Party Boots:

1) Stiletto Heel Shoots or Ankle length booties (Yes! we are still talking about shoes)

I suggest a bright red coloured one with a 4 to 5 inch stiletto heel.

2) Metallic Oxfords:

Oxfords were very much in trend in Spring/Summer 2013; now to transition to the ‘Fall’ choose a pair with heels and in a ‘Metallic’ shade.

3) Christmas Boots with sparkles:

Christmas is here and these boots look perfect for the festive occasion

Art Deco: Casual and Evening Wear

Art Deco dresses are the ones which have geometric designs, bold colours and lavish ornamentation. This style first made its appearance in France, after World War I, but lost their charm post World War II.

Having said that, we saw it make a come back with the release of the movie "The Great Gatsby" and also a lot of celebs adorned dresses during the Oscars and Golden Globe Red carpet.

I love this trend for its geometrical designs. The 'Casual - Art Deco' would include only the panelling and not much of sequins or embroidery.

For a change I din't style myself, instead Nam was willing to dress up, who also is of a 'Petite Pear' body type.

Cheetah Print - Formal to Evening Wear

'Animal Print' - The 'Darling' of all trends for Fall 2013.

Although Animal Prints are the most sought out prints for Fall 2013, its not been worn as work wear because of the boldness that make them inappropriate. However, the best way is to pick a dress in Monochrome or Monotone in very small prints.

I had this Knitted dress that I wanted to style a 'Pear' shaped body with, to give it a 'Friday Casual' look. One, which you can wear to work and later take it directly to a friday night party scene.

For a formal look add a blazer and a faux croc leather bag in tan. You could also use a bag in red that gives the outfit a warmth and a colour burst.

To turn this look around to an evening wear, add a beaded necklace and a grey satin clutch and Voila!! You are ready to hit the club. Simple!!

Nautical and Tropical - Print on Print

The name Nautical reminds me of Sheryl Crow's song - Soak up the sun (although the Genre is 'Country') .. Don't ask me why!

I know its winter now in India and everyone is wearing grey and black, but I wanted to try out the 'Nautical and Tropical - Print on Print' styling for a slim/athletic body type. The aim is to add volume and drama to the Athletic body frame.

I love this top I picked up at Zara's; it has prints of the tropical bird - 'Hornbill' and in a Pineapple yellow colour. The skirt on the other hand has Nautical lines in navy Blue.

The yellow kitten heel shoes matched the 'Nautical' print top and accessories were kept to bare minimum by adding just a Beige Bag to balance the colour bursts and prints in the outfit.

Menswear: Casual Wear and Suspenders

Gone are the days when men would dress up in their 3 piece suits, floppy hats and braces or Suspenders! Men are more towards the easy casual dressing.

Did you know?!

'Braces' or 'Suspender Belts' dated back to the 18th Century and were made of ribbon strips whose only purpose was to hold the trousers in place.

Clark Gable, Marlon Brando and Gary Cooper

It was a taboo to wear them unconcealed. Until actors like, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Garry Cooper, Ralph Richardson and Marlon Brando (who also wore T-shirt as a garment and not as an undergarment) popularised them, that they were accepted as pieces of accessories to enhance ones fashion quotient and not treated as mere fasteners.

I guess we still haven’t seen that many men adorning this accessory. Of the few I have seen, I think my friend Prem carries it off with quite a lot of gusto. His outfit was styled for a lazy Sunday afternoon casual look; the colour palette was kept neutral and colours chosen were white, beige, brown and khakhi.

So while the country’s growing trend for dog ownership might seem safe enough, Families increasingly are getting pets as an additional member to love and be loved – and are lavishly spending on pet birthday parties, pet boarding etc. and this time with winter around the corner be prepared to see the pampered pets wearing all the trendy talks of the paw fashion world.

DIY : Braided fabric Necklace

Last week, I was rummaging through my sewing supplies box and found a couple of things that could be turned into a necklace. So I went ahead and made one... Here's how you could do the same too :-)

Stuff from my box:

· An old broken bead bracelet.

· Some bits of fabric in 3 different colors and textures.

· Needle and thread to do up the edges.

This is how you go about it:

Cut 2 strips in each of the fabrics with these measurements: 35" length x 1/2" width. You will have 6 strips. Also 2 small triangles to finish the ends.I have left the edges raw because I like the frayed finish.

Now braid the strips into two braids. I used some paperweight to hold one end as I was braiding.

Use a small bit of thick thread or a piece of fabric to thread through the huge beads in whichever order you like. I also made small knots after the beads so they don't slip before the necklace is complete.

Sew or fabric glue the two braids and the beaded piece of fabric as per below. Do the other side using the same method.

Now use the triangular piece of fabric to wrap the rough edge and sew it neatly.

Find a dress or blouse to match and wear it proudly :-)
