That’s why I love (anything-) Annie Leibovitz. She’s like a photo-story teller to me. I could never resist the story of Annie lenses.

So Vanity Fair’s pictorials really get to me. Because they tell stories. Like this “Ain’t We Got Style” from Vanity Fair August 2009 where young artist impersonate legends from the thirties films! (the story continues right after the jump with more pictures and videos!)

Photographed by Art Streiber, Mark Selinger, Michael Roberts and Norman Jean Roy, the August portfolio looks magical and doesn’t fail to impress me. The work that’s being put into a photo session like that is unbelievable: an entire industry for just few pages of printed paper in a monthly magazine…

James Marsden and Rose Byrne channeling Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert (It Happened One Night, Frank Capra, 1934), Mila Kunis as Joan Crawford (Letty Lynton, 1932), Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried as William Powell and Carole Lombard (My Man Godfrey, 1936), Josh Duhamel and Elle Fannig as Ryan and Tatul O’Neal (Paper Moon, 1973), Kat Dennings, Anton Yelchin, Maya Rudolph, John Krasinski, Elizabeth Banks, Hugh Dancy (They Shoot Horses Don’t They? 1969) and so many more play the tune of the Great Depression for an artistic comparison with the current “depression”.

Would that add some seriousness to the playful spirit in which the photos were supposed to be taken? Maybe. Then again, maybe not. It’s not uncommon for upcoming actors to act as past legends. It’s something reassuring in recreating a stated success, something that gives one aspirant a clear perspective of the peak. Is it safe to recreate the Great Depression? Don’t really know, but I surely can’t take it seriously if there’s John Krasinski in it! There’s gotta be a prank somewhere… (via 1, 2)

Earrings, necklace and bracelet at $100 the set ($47 for the necklace and $54 for the bracelet, $54 the earrings). If you ask me, it’s all just a question of advertising. If they put it in the wrong hands (LiLo’s Fornarina campaign raised most eyebrows but I’m not sure it really cashed in), the collection has every chance of melting in the windows, waiting to be bought, just like the design suggests. Koji Suzuki’s Drop is a nine chapter horror novella (Koji Suzuki is also responsible for “The Ring”) available on paper toilet rolls at 210 yen/pce (appx $2). Drop is the story of a goblin living in a public restroom. I wonder when they’ll start printing fashion magazines on toilet paper… It would really solve the storage-after-reading dilemma… And that, ladies and gents, is why I love doing my ‘zines reading online – it saves me tons of storage space! Featuring Toni Garn (and Karlie Kloss’ back) in a runway setting, like we were warned it would be, the new Donna Karan ad print looks a bit fishy. I may not be a desktop publisher par métier, but my passion for altering images (in a funny way, like Christian Audigier wearing a Victoria Beckham dress) makes me point in the right direction: if this Donna Karan ad campaign comes straight from the catwalk, then this should not be Toni Garn. Because she never walked that outfit down the runway. It was Anya Kazakova who had this ensemble for the Fall Winter 2009 2010 catwalk. If this is the official ad print for the campaign, Donna Karan’s staff (and why not Donna Karan herself) doesn’t care about what people think about her work/brand. She only cares about the economy. Call it a mother’s sympathetic feeling for a family’s tragedy, call it a fan grieving the loss of a truly magical artist, I just had to let it out. (the story continues right after the jump with a video from the Memorial Service)

Yes, the Couture Shows are already catwalking down, charming everyone and their fash-dog. But Michael Jackson’s departure was beyond any magazines sales reports and increasing profits strategies (and surely above any un/fashionable frock). It was something that has brought the world together. Something that made everyone synchronize and (including that snobbing fashdog who only swears on the runway gods) feel the sorrow and the human pain at the loss of someone they loved (somehow, sometime).

Luckily, this very special Memorial Service was so much about the man behind the public Michael Jackson that there’s still hope in rehabilitating his name and make his legacy a truly honorable one, valued for its outstanding artistic weight. Bless you, Paris! for being honest and speaking with the simplest voice of them all: the voice of a child who loved/loves her parent. Match any couture show to that! An alligator shirt? Who would refuse? A white polo with plenty little green alligators looking like bugs all over? Who wouldn’t wear such daring design? (the story continues right after the jump with more images!)

The Brazilian design duo is most famous for their animal-furniture (like the Alligator-Chair or the Boa sofa) so it comes as no surprise at all seeing them work with Lacoste reptiles to add a special design dimension to the iconic brand. Using the natural habits of green alligators (piling up in mud beds during the dry season), a 2D replica of this natural behavior was used to create the Campanas + Lacoste Limited Edition series: 125 pieces for men and 125 pieces for women (plus a super limited edition made to order with 12 pieces for men and 12 pieces for women).

The special edition t-shirts were produced in cooperation with Coopa-Roca, a sustainable development from Rio de Janeiro providing work to women in the Rocinha neighborhood. Besides the lizard-bugs polos, the most amazing signature piece from this cooperation is the Sumer Limited Edition Polo made only from Lacoste logos in a lace-like appearance.

The Collection was officially launched in Paris, France, the 27th June in a very special installment at the Hotel de Roquelaure, part of the Save Your Logo Campaign from Lacoste. All design honors aside, could you wear these Campanas for Lacoste polos? (yatzer via ontdff)
