In his latest movie coming to cinemas in Madrid on 1st March, De Niro stars alongside Sigourney Weaver as a world-reknowned psychic in “Red Lights”. The film has received less than rave reviews thus far, but at least Robert De Niro shows that his screen presence isn’t waning by dressing head to toe in made-to-measure from Ermenegildo Zegna (Su Misura) and adds to the list of celebs sporting the top-end brand of sartorial goodness including the Jonas Brothers and George Clooney.

Ok, blah blah – we know we have been terrible at updating the site but thought this snippet was worth sharing. Although it’s a bit late in the day for us Brits who should already be knees-deep in Valentine’s heaven or hell right at this very moment, those of you across the pond still have time to get things right.

Seeing as you’re probably either at dinner now or preparing that last minute booking (men tend not to plan well in advance, apparently) we have item number three below for you:

3. Restaurants. Eateries advertising special Valentine menus are to be avoided at all costs. Not only will you find yourself in a dining space filled with couples all looking around to see if those on neighbouring tables are having a better time/look more in love/are more attractive, you’ll invariably be forced to pay over the odds, thanks in part to the over-priced single red rose in a slender transparent plastic cylinder you’ll be duped into purchasing before you leave.

Menswear Fashion Designer of the Year 2011 [The SN View]

So it’s just three days before the British Fashion Awards 2011 ceremony takes place, and with the media circus that surrounded the Royal Wedding earlier this year, it would not be surprising to see Sarah Burton take the overall Best Designer of the Year award; obviously she has more than enough credentials being the successor to the late and great Alexander McQueen, but the dress for Kate could tip it for her.

I am unsure whether the other nominees – in Christopher Kane, who has been quiet for the past couple of years, or Erdem, a relative newcomer to the scene – are real contenders for the crown in 2011.

The menswear award itself sees nominations for Kim Jones (Louis Vuitton), Margaret Howell and Oliver Spencer. Again, the latter appear to be outliers in the presence of Jones who has moved from strength to strength in recent years, which has culminated in him landing the post of Style Director at Louis Vuitton.

Working with Marc Jacobs, who is arguably responsible for the reinvention of the brand since the turn of the decade, along with his own tweaks for previously transforming the Dunhill brand; such credentials should set Kim Jones in good stead for receipt of the Menswear Fashion Designer of the Year 2011 award, although, as a huge fan of Oliver Spencer lines from this year, it would be great to see the award go in his direction.
