I‘ve lovingly mentioned Del Toro a few times. Matthew Chevallard, the creator behind the slippers took time to have a quick chat with me about his brand a while ago. I have a bit of a soft spot for a velvet slipper, adopted from British attire they are noticeable in part of American prep style. Del Toro have some wonderful options. I understand you either love or hate them, but do give the velvet slipper a chance.

Christian: I’m a great fan of your shoes, how did you come to start a charming Velvet Slipper business?

Matthew Chevallard: Basically we  wanted some slippers for high school graduation, we inquired at a company called Stubbs in our town and they told us 9-12 months and 850 dollars. That was unfeasible so we decided to strive to find a better solution. Five years later we have finally solidified that mission and are beginning our expansion.

Where are your shoes made?

Handmade outside of Madrid, Spain

What would you say is your personal style?

My personal style is a mix of Italian, Palm Beach and Miami. My favorite brands are Italia independent, Band of Outsiders, YSL, Etro and Ralph.

Any tips?

The only tip I want to emphasize is following your passion and defying the odds and peoples skepticism’s should be a great motivator for any entrepreneur. Take the hardships endured during the learning curve and learn from each mistake as a reason to find a more practical efficient way.
