Leopard Print Maxi Dress

This dress was a bit of a fail for me and did end up going back, but I wanted to share it anyway in case you wanted to give it a go! 

The silhouette and fabric on it are nice; for me I think the leopard print is just a bit overwhelming and the belt loops stick out a bit. It comes in 10 different print options and is made of polyester. Check the price here.

This short dress is more of a summery find but it’s easy to throw on a chunky cardigan and booties to transition this look for fall.

I am always impressed by the quality of pieces from The Drop. They are definitely more expensive than some other Amazon items but that’s because this is an in-house brand and, as I said, the quality is much better.

I’m a sucker for tweed; it’s classic and one of those things that always looks expensive, even if it isn’t!

Remember when I said I love tweed for fall? I do! So I couldn’t resist ordering both color options of this tweed mini skirt.

FYI: The sizing is super WEIRD. I took my time reading the reviews and based off of that, I ordered a size 8 in both skirts. They fit great, and I typically take a 2 or 4 in my skirts. 

I styled it with this Abercrombie bodysuit that is cut out in the back, but this Amazon bodysuit (which I also own) is almost an exact dupe.

Although we’ve renovated plenty of times, I’ve always found picking out wall art to be really difficult. I’m indecisive, to a fault, and am constantly second-guessing myself, even after a decision has been made!

The aqua backsplash perfectly complements the bright orange appliances and the interior designer continued the color scheme throughout the rest of the kitchen with complementary accessories and decor pieces.

Looking for a unique take on the white subway tile backsplash? Try laying it out in a stacked pattern, which is a more modern take on your traditional subway tile backsplash laid out in an off-set pattern.

The tile color itself doesn’t have to be an exact match to the cabinets, just try to keep the same color tone in your white tile as the cabinets (warm or cool-toned).

Your backsplash tile doesn’t have to be matchy-matchy; what you can do is focus on a complementary tile that picks up some of the colors around the kitchen, such as the hardware and countertops. 

This long thin light grey tile is a perfect example; it has hints of grey that’s also seen in the hardware and countertops.

One of the most common ways to lay out tiles as a backsplash is horizontally, but you can also choose to go vertical for a totally different look! 

White tile, or even shiplap as seen above, are two materials that can work as a backsplash in your kitchen laid out vertically.

If your white kitchen is a grey and white theme, embrace that with some grey and white tile as the backsplash. The grey is subtle but seen through other areas of the kitchen like the polished chrome hardware and stainless steel appliances.

A lot of people consider a white kitchen as a blank canvas, which means you can pretty much choose any backsplash idea! You can even try two different tiles, as seen here. One is more of a pattern and the other is a white vertical tile. This works best on different walls, or even different rooms such as a butler’s pantry.

XL Subway Tile

Another white subway tile to try is getting an extra-long tile. It’s a bit more modern than the traditional size tiles and still a classic look that looks great in this transitional kitchen.

I’m kidding….BUT there are a few rules you can keep in mind when it comes to creating booties with jeans outfits, which is exactly what we’re getting into in today’s post. 

Read on for today’s ultimate guide on everything you need to know on how to wear ankle boots with jeans in 2021.

Why Styling Ankle Boots with Jeans is So Confusing

When it comes to trying to figure out how to wear booties with jeans, there are a lot of variables to take into consideration. That’s why it’s confusing to figure out and such a tricky styling dilemma. 

First, you’re dealing with different types of ankle boots. Generally, that includes these three boot styles: 

• Short booties (these have a short shaft that don’t come up high on your leg)
• Medium-length booties (medium shaft)
• Tall ankle boots (high shaft that comes up higher on your leg)

The shaft of a typical ankle boot, measured from the bottom of the shoe to the top, is anywhere from 3” to 8 ¾”. As you can see, that’s a big difference! 

Now, let’s throw the other variable into the mix: the fact that there are SO many types of jeans! 

From straight-leg jeans to boyfriend jeans and yes, of course, skinny jeans, there are so many different ways you can wear booties with your favorite pair of denim. 

In this post, we’ll deconstruct all of the variables so you’ll know exactly what your options are no matter what your jean or boot style is. 

What Kind of Jeans Go Best with Ankle Boots? 

Honestly, you can wear ankle boots with so many types of jeans! I guarantee you have a look in your closet already that can be recreated from this list, so there’s no need to rush out and buy something new. But first, we’ll start out with the most popular of choices, the skinny jean. 

How to Wear Ankle Boots with Skinny Jeans

The best way to wear ankle boots may just be with skinny jeans. It’s the first option that comes to mind for many since it’s easy to recreate and you likely have a pair of skinny jeans already in your closet! 

But even still, there are several different options here so let’s tackle exactly how to wear booties with skinny jeans.

Pair Cropped Skinny Jeans with Ankle Boots

This is the easiest of all of the looks to pull off because it really requires doing nothing. It’s ideal if the hem of your jeans hits around the ankle so that there is space between the top of the boot and your jeans. 

This works well with a more cropped skinny jean that hits the ankle paired with an ankle boot that has a short shaft. This way, the top of your booties don’t touch your jeans!

Showing a little bit of skin (a little, not a ton) helps elongate the legs and makes your booties more noticeable, too. This is my favorite way to wear boots with skinny jeans. 

These Free People skinny jeans hit right at the ankle and look great paired with this bootie, which has a short shaft.

I own a similar pair of ankle boots and this is one of my go-to everyday fall looks that is pretty effortless and foolproof. It’s really the easiest answer to how to wear booties with skinny jeans.

Tuck Your Skinny Jeans into Your Boots

Got skinny jeans that are longer? Don’t sweat it. You can tuck jeans into ankle boots. In my opinion, this look is a tad harder to pull off (and isn’t a favorite) but it can be done. 

To get it right, be sure you are in a true skinny jean. If you try to do this with a pair of straight leg jeans or boyfriend jeans, you’ll end up with a bit too much fabric to tuck in and some bunching at the ankles. 

This is the same way you’d wear leggings with ankle boots.

Create a Faux Cropped Skinny Jean

Another neat trick to try (and it’s one of the easiest ones to do) is to simply roll your skinny jeans under so that they are a bit more cropped at the ankle. This look works best with a bootie that has a short or medium shaft. (Yes, it’s confusing because there are so many different types of ankle boots and so many different types of jeans!)  

Cuff Your Skinny Jeans 

A more casual look to try that is also fairly easy to pull off is to cuff your skinny jeans by rolling them up at the ankle once or twice to create a single cuff or double cuff. Do this if your skinny jeans are on the longer side.

This works well with flat ankle boots too, like combat boots, which are another big 2021 fashion trend.

TLDR: You can wear ankle boots with skinny jeans that are cuffed, tucked in, rolled under or with a pair of jeans that hits at the ankle. 

• If your booties are short, don’t tuck them in.
• If your booties are tall, they’ll look best with tucked-in skinny jeans. 

How to Wear Ankle Booties with Straight Leg Jeans

Straight leg jeans are exactly what they sound like: they aren’t quite a skinny jean yet they aren’t a wide-leg jean either. They are instead categorized by having a consistent leg width. 

Since straight leg jeans aren’t too wide and aren’t too skinny, they can be worn as-is with your ankle boots making them a really easy outfit combo to recreate.

Amy from Straight A Style wears her straight leg jeans cuffed at the ankle. They’re rolled just once and she also pairs them with a pair of short ankle boots. 

Don’t have short ankle boots? Don’t sweat it! You can also wear medium and tall booties with straight leg jeans.

I’m loving these black jeans paired with brown ankle boots that have a medium shaft. The jeans are grazing the ankle and top of the boot. 

If you have a straight leg jean that is longer than ankle length, you can wear those with any height bootie as well. 

These high-waisted straight leg jeans look stylish and effortless paired with ankle boots.

Styling Ankle Boots with Wide Leg Jeans

High-waisted wide leg jeans are back, and I couldn’t be happier! It’s really such a classic look.  These jeans are incredibly flattering on most body types and easy to style, too. 

In fact, the “do nothing” approach is exactly how you’d wear ankle boots with wide leg jeans. There is nothing to roll, tuck or crop, just throw on any height ankle boot with your favorite wide leg jeans. 

Think you can’t wear white jeans with booties? Think again! This wide leg white jean looks great paired with boots. 

Pro Tip: Do make sure your wide leg jeans hit at or around the bottom of the boot and aren’t dragging on the floor. 

These same styling rules apply to bootcut jeans and flared jeans, too.

How to Wear Booties with a Cropped Wide Leg Jean

One of this season’s hottest fashion trends is to pair your booties with cropped wide-leg jeans. 

This look works really well with medium or tall ankle boots. These wide leg jeans look great paired with a kitten heel bootie and makes for a really chic look. 

I pair my high-waisted cropped Levi’s with combat boots and medium-shaft ankle boots. If you aren’t into the combat boots trend, you can also do this with a flat boot.

Pro Tip: You can show a hint of ankle, but generally speaking you won’t want to show too much skin so avoid these jeans with a short ankle boot. 

More Ankle Boots with Jeans Outfits

I’m loving the frayed hem of the jeans on these straight ankle cropped jeans. They look great paired with medium shaft black booties and these jeans show a bit of skin. 

If you don’t love the fringe hem and are looking for something cleaner, try these MOTHER jeans. A bodysuit and pointed-toe ankle boots are a great way to rock this look. 

Pro Tip: This is a good option to try for the over-30 set that wants to dip their toe in the mom jeans + booties trend without looking like a 20-something.

A few things to know upfront: I’m exceptionally picky when it comes to jean shorts. In fact, I hate most denim shorts. It takes me a LONG time to find some I truly like and would recommend. 

This year, I decided to go for the AGOLDE Parker Shorts that everyone raves about as well as the Abercrombie High-Rise Mom Short. Read on to see how it went! 

Abercombie High-Rise Mom Short

These shorts were my first foray into Abercrombie denim and they did NOT disappoint! They are absolutely worth the hype and are a great AGOLDE Parker short dupe. 

I own this pair of AGOLDE Parker shorts and the fit is incredibly similar. They come in a ton of different washes and run true to size. I’m wearing these in a size 25.

Abercrombie High Rise 4-Inch Mom Short

If you’re looking for a longer length, the 4-inch mom short is a great pair to try. They’re comfortable but do feel a bit stretchier than the traditional Mom Short, but it may be the fabric is different on this particular wash. 

These fit true to size and I would prefer to size down if it were available. 

Abercrombie 80s High-Rise Mom Short

If you’re into the 80s trend then you need to grab these 80s high-rise shorts! They are so adorable and such a fun fit. 

The shorts are cuffed (sewed on, you can’t unroll) and feature two buttons on the waist. They are a true high-waist fit and are flattering on the bum, too. 

Abercrombie Mid-Rise Mom Short

I didn’t think I’d like the mid-rise short but I ended up loving these, too! They are a true mid-rise so they’re still pretty comfortable, even if you’re used to only wearing high-waisted jeans. 

For a more comfortable and relaxed fit, I sized up to a 26 in these and would recommend doing so. 

They also look great paired with this cute knotted crew tee, which also runs true to size. The tee is a really soft fabric and not see-through at all, making it another great wardrobe basic.

A Few More Abercrombie Sale Finds

I’ve been having the absolute BEST luck at Abercrombie lately so I had to include a few other finds and favorites that are currently on sale! 

First up is this open-back bodysuit I’m wearing in all of the photos above. The fabric is incredible, it is SO soft and flattering and I am thinking of grabbing it in another color (it comes in 4 sizes). Plus, it’s only $33 on sale!!

I also own this 90s seamless bodysuit which is a great basic to have in your wardrobe. 

In the spring, I grabbed this gorgeous puff-sleeve top with the matching smocked skirt. It’s a great set but sold as separates! You could easily style this top with white shorts or the skirt with a white crop top. Either way they’re both really beautiful pieces. (I grabbed the skirt in Petite).

This cute linen utility jumpsuit has also been a summer favorite. It’s available in two other colors and a great staple piece that’s timeless.

Common Abercrombie Jeans Questions and Concerns

Do Abercrombie denim shorts stretch out? Nope! I can’t stand when shorts stretch out a ton and these don’t stretch out.

How is the Denim Quality? I’m happy to report these are not that crazy-stiff denim fabric. I’m not personally a fan of that and they’ve held up well so far. 

Should you size up in Abercrombie shorts? You could go either way, at least I could. I typically order my size or one size up, depending on how “loose” I want them to fit. A few things I look for: 

• Overall comfort
• Extra fabric

If I want to be more comfortable, I will size up UNLESS there is fabric bulking in some places. Then I will stay in my true size. 

Do Abercrombie jeans shrink? Nope! I haven’t had a problem with Abercrombie jeans shrinking. I wash them in cold water and air dry them as well. 

In general, it’s best to try to not wash your jeans very often if you can help it. 

FINAL THOUGHTS

One of the biggest reasons I’m really liking Abercrombie shorts and denim is because they don’t GAPE in the back, which is one of my pet peeves when it comes to shorts. I find it extremely difficult to find jean shorts that fit my waist without strangling my thighs. These also are really affordable!
