In ancient times feminine beauty had been compared to a mountain river’s flow. Similarly Viktoria Balaniuk and Véronika Vèz, conceiving the concept of “flowing” as the purest example of harmony, have created FLOW the Label to express the most genuine womanhood, which is overshadowed by society’s excessive experimentation.
FLOW the Label aims to the perfect balance of opposites, blending beauty and functionality and, although the brand is quite emerging (born in 2014), its energy spreads almost all over Europe.
FLOW the Label’s aesthetic is the perfect match between vintage and modern: elegant and feminine dresses with masculine touches and ironic accents, which led it to receive the VOGUE Ukraine’s Design IT Award and the BFA in the United Kingdom. Great job Viktoria and Véronika!
FLOW the Label’s inspirations come from all artistic fields, from the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright to the paintings of Georgian Niko Pirosmani. The Spring/Summer 2017 takes inspiration from the cultural heritage of the ‘70s and particularly from the movie Stepford Wives (1975), where husbands kill their socially active wives, in order to replace them with robots created to be the “perfect wives”. FLOW the Label works on the conflicting roles of a housewife and a working woman in a contemporary setting. The “perfect wife” wears silk batiste blouses, light aprons and dresses with frills and ruffles; instead, the independent woman is pictured in suits with raw edges and practical trenches. Fabrics like denim, linen and cotton, together with floral embroideries, are the traits d’union among these female types, translated in a fashion collection that is able to combine diversity in a harmonious way. We can’t wait to introduce you the next collection…Just a spoiler alert: FLOW the Label’s Autumn/Winter woman will show its romantic side and its inspirations will be taken from the characters of Picnic at Hanging Rock by Peter Weir!
FLOW the Label : the storytelling of a dynamic and refined femininity which, like a river, moves itself in harmony with the flow of time.

Dear friends, our sake of what is out of the ordinary brought us to the other side of the Mediterranean Sea, in Beirut city, to discover one of the most prominent fashion designers of the Middle East.
Apparel brand Kojak, founded by Mohanad Kojak after participating at the first edition of Project Runway Middle East, has launched a new capsule collection, “Knockout”, blurring the line between feminine and reckless. We are very happy to show you the beautiful shoot which took place on the streets of Beirut in collaboration with Elle Arabia – stylist Ghina Maalouf, focused on the typical urban exteriors in contrast with the feminine silhouettes of the collection. It featured dresses with an experimental edge, voluminous skirts and different textures. The concept of going away from what it is typical and expected is clear in this project, as the pictures don’t feature proper Beirut locations; instead the characteristic of the city of being full of contrasts between delicate and rough is visible in the styling of the clothes. Kojak translated this into the shoot through the juxtaposition of the delicate silhouette of the costumes with a grungy twist, lent through the locations and props, like a rusty staircase, or by some of the accessories used, like fishnets covering a model’s head or a plastic bag used as a hair tie. The way that the essence of a city has been translated into ultra-feminine, bold and experimental dresses totally fascinated us. You know how much we love giving our space to such talents, whose creations shouldn’t be limited or confined by any border.
Keep on supporting our emerging designers, no matter where they come from!

Dear friends, London Fashion Week always gathers the best of British fashion and this year especially, while we were walking around the Designer Showroom and the presentations’ venues, we saw so many beautiful ideas and concepts that we had some difficulties in selecting the best for you. So, here we are presenting some of the most talented designers we met for you!
From South Korea to London, we are happy to introduce you to the “artwear” brand Moon Lee and to the womenswear accessories label Danse Lente.
Moon Lee takes inspiration from the art therapy creating playful dresses that mix&match different type of fabrics, colours and embroideries inviting the wearer to focus on happy thoughts. The designer aims to help people not to worry about their problems and to be cheerful about life! We definitely need that embroidered dress representing a couple watching a sky full of stars, how romantic…
Danse Lente, on the other hand, creates contemporary handbags and clutches produced in Italian calf leather. Focusing on geometry, unique shaped creations are going to be released soon: multi-section wallets, long oval tube bags, square and octagon totes with adjustable tick leather straps and silver details. Keep an eye on this label, it will be launched officially this month!
Moving to the jewellery side, we want to mention Halo&Co. Bold, colourful, shiny and rich jewels that mix tradition with contemporary design, the sibling duo Nicola and Stephanie Ball definitely have clear ideas on how to catch people’s attention! Designed and produced in the UK valuing the most fine craftsmanship, all the jewels are realized with 24 carat rose or yellow gold plated, silver, rhodium using crystal and stones in collaboration with Swarovski. If you ever worried on how to dress up that boring outfit, here’s the solution!
This is just an appetiser on what you will taste from London (and its Fashion Weeks). Put yourself comfortable and don’t miss our next article: you will be amazed!

As the spring – and like the wind, “IED + StyleSwitch x Emerging Designers” feature is back! This time the zoom is on a young milliner and her perfect harmony between present and past. Veronica Marucci Chapeaux represents Veronica’s desire to create unique and personal hats. The beginning of her journey flashes back to when she had the courage to ring at the doorbell of one of the most famous milliner once, noticing her creativity, accepted to become her professor. In her flat in the Marais Veronica created Christine, Bogart, Louise Brooks… unusual hats decorated with vintage applications from France and Italy. The influence comes from everything fascinated her eyes and gave her emotions, from iconic actresses of the 1930s to swallows in flight. Little by little, Veronica’s dream comes true opening her first boutique in 32 Rue Saint-Roch, an elegant place full of that kind of energy that only la Ville Lumiére can offer.
The Spring/Summer 2017 collection winks at hat history, from the bicorn from the XVIII century to the turban which Paul Poiret re-launched in the 1920s. The French Riviera is the background of a collection that Veronica describes in two words: “Deep Breath”, the moment before jumping into the unknown, when a rush of adrenalin goes through the entire body. This can be pictured also as that instant when you discover the depth of your soul, and the body is floating between air and water.
Listening to the splashing waves, let Veronica Marucci tell us more about her world.

How did you find your passion for fashion?
I have always been attracted to stylish and well-dressed people. I think that taking care of yourself isn’t superficial at all, but it is a will not-to-look-like other people and I appreciate that. I realized I wanted to work in order to make people be themselves showing off their fashionista side, that is what makes me like my job.
I didn’t need anything to feed my passion, I was already sure of what I needed but I kept doing research about it because fashion is all about research and analysis, it reflects our society.
Has working in fashion always been your dream?
I think yes! But my work life has been through some changes, I started with clothes ending up with accessories (hats); from trends hunting to visual merchandising, finding the exact thing I wanted to do was a bit long.
Who and what really pushes you to pursue this career?
Nobody has ever pushed me to work in fashion, nobody forced me to make this choice. In every job I did, there was something missing, I needed to work with my hands more than with my imagination, which is what I am doing today as a milliner. There was a triggering event that made this happen. Some encounters have been crucial, such as when I met my professor, who taught me everything about being a milliner. I just wanted people to wear hats, because they give them a touch of originality and elegance. My focus is on accessories because they give more style than clothes, and what’s better than a hat to emphasize the personality of the one who wears it?
Professional turning point
Two moments have been very important in my work life, the day I decided to leave everything to become a milliner, creating my own brand and turning my passion into a job. The second has been when I found my boutique at 32 rue Saint-Roch where I understood that my dream finally came true and my company began to work.
Which are the strengths of your collections?
The visual identity of my collections is their real strength. Even if they are very different, you can always recognize my sense of aesthetic and my signature touch. I aim at making people not feeling disguised but elegant, I am doing my best to make my hats look sober and original at the same time, I want them to be easy to wear and to escape from ordinary.
What inspired you in the past and what can influence now your work?
Everything can be a source of inspiration: art, architecture, people, nature… I cannot predict what will influence me in the future, and that is why I like my job, I don’t know how tomorrow will be like and I find it exciting.
How about future projects?
I am currently working on my e-boutique and I hope it will be online by next month! In the meantime I am doing my best extending my network with several collaborations, also by experimenting a new way to communicate through social networks and by writing regular news.
Describe you IED – Milan experience and how it has artistically influenced your growth as designer
My studies at IED allowed me to discover the different steps of the elaboration of my projects and the reality of the world of fashion, which I didn’t imagine like it before starting my studies. School also helped me to discover my strengths and to have more self-confidence in my capacities.

Progetti futuri

Today we would like to introduce you the London Designers Collective, a new reality launched by REIN – womenswear brand founded by Gemma and Rebecca – that includes the best emerging underground fashion labels in London, reunited under one roof to host a series of guerrilla events between presentations and pop-up shop. The LDC aims to maximise the opportunity to sell and grow the business: ten pioneering and contemporary brands can raise together their customer base, sharing resources and networks! A new, exciting customer experience that allows people to shop directly from the designers, having the precious opportunity to discover immediately their collections.
We selected three great brands and we suggest you to follow and support them on their social accounts. REIN, as mentioned, is a London-based contemporary brand that is inspired by and for women aiming to empower the body through one-of-a-kind designs. Park&James is an English shoe brand produced in Italy, focused to bring the comfort of flat footwear to an upper level, linking wearability and bespoke design (the flat revolution!). Conflict Of Ego, “the conscious brand for the ever evolving self”, is described as “a philosophy with a brand”, whose collections explore socio-political issues in a provoking way.
Giving voice to small, independent brands, the London Designers Collective builds the future of customer experience and retail, fulfilling what lacks in the fashion system.
Experience. Explore. Enter their world.

Experience. Explore. Enter their world.

Dear friends, we can’t get tired of a city like London. Some time ago we played a game: we imagined a place that reminded us of home, with an open heart typical of the Italians and a metropolitan soul that you can only find in the most fashionable streets of London. We wanted to challenge the unpredictability of this amazing city and in the core of Spitalfields area we found The Man From Le Marche. TMFLM is a brand-new Italian concept store that sells the essence of being an urban gentleman: there is a resident old school barber, a bespoke tailoring service and a very attentive selection of Italian and English artisanal products such as shoes and leather goods, eyeglasses and clothing. We were so fascinated by this place and the effort taken by founders Michela and Gianluca that we came back for the special launch of Kirk&Kirk’s eyewear collection.
The story of this brand goes back in 1919 with the optics workshop opened by the Kirk’s first generation of opticians. Now it’s been twenty years since Jason and Karen (Kirk, of course) have started running the family company, with an endless passion for eyewear, offering their experience to other companies as design consultants and producers. Now it’s the time of Kirk&Kirk brand, the sum of what they know best: designed in England and produced in France, these silhouettes are realized with a special, high-quality acrylic, mixing tradition and innovation, heritage of the family’s expertise and future. The latest collection, the Kaleidoscope, is an explosion of colours and beauty; vibrant shades and dramatic frames for these eyeglasses that are treated as precious jewels, thanks especially to the wise use of the acrylic that gives them transparency and brilliance.
We loved trying some of the models to see which one suited us best: what a surprise discovering they are incredibly light-weighted and wearable! We realized that we weren’t trying a simple pair of eyeglasses, but a cool accessory to complete our look, leaving our dioptres in the background
So, friends, stop buying boring eyeglasses, join the tradition and don’t forget to match Kirk&Kirk’s philosophy with the colour of your eyes!

Cari amici, annoiarsi a Londra è davvero impossibile.

Diamonds are girl’s best friends, but how about bags? We believe they have the same importance, considering that they carry our secrets and essentials! So, in these crowded days of LFW, we’re back to London to introduce you the British handbag brand Yuzefi, created by the talented Naza Yuzefi. The peculiarity of each piece is the original design characterised by the knot which, reinvented in its simplicity, gives that added value we all look for when buying a bag. We are totally in love also with the philosophy of the label, because embraces ethical and sustainable practices as well as the choice to work only with British artisans. The materials are carefully chosen at the highest standards in order to provide a long-lasting luxury item with a story behind. The new collection in fact is a re-study of the sack and the bucket, in their ageless versatility. The Noa Bag and the Babel Bag are the results of this translation, with their contrast between hard and soft structure and rich, original craftsmanship. Naza pushes the boundaries of the leather by creating pieces that merge the concepts of solid and fluid, in a result that transcend trends and seasons. The inspirations are multiple: from looking at the past to reimagine the future, to the meanings of freedom and movement, the concept of Yuzefi is a journey that embraces tradition and innovation in a perfect union.
Which one between the Noa Bag and the Babel Bag do you prefer? We totally can picture them together with a minimal, smart-casual outfit: cropped trousers, court shoes with plexiglass block heels, pure white button-up shirt and woollen long vest. The contemporary look of the bags will do the rest!
Did you find the right inspiration for your next shopping session? Yes? Ok, let’s check out the e-shop of the brand (www.yuzefi.com) and be ready to discover a universe of amazing pieces. Follow them also on Facebook and Instagram to be updated on all the latest news!
Yuzefi Bags, “big enough for your essentials that matter, small enough for when you wanna have some fun”. Carry less < Dance more.

The writer Carlos Ruiz Zafón said “Barcelona gets into your blood and steals your soul”, and this probably inspired Llorence Fiuxà when founded Med winds in 2011: giving substance and life to its Catalan origins through garments that embody his soul and the multifaceted essence of the Mediterranean coast. Each collection represents an incredible journey of discovery: from Mallorca to Marseille via the Costa Brava, with all their colours and scents. Made in Spain and supported by the work of local artisans, the brand has got the charm of the vintage and retro photos hidden in grandmother’s attic.
For the Fall/Winter 2016-2017, Med winds stops over at the magical Venice, creating a menswear and a womenswear collection inspired by the unique and eternal allure of this city. Along Venice canals, bridges and hidden alleys, capes and coats take shape with all their volumes and heavy fabrics, recalling the Renaissance’s style. Med winds pays tribute to the painter and designer Mariano Fortuny realizing pleated clothes, like the ones the artist conceived, and all-over floral prints declined on dresses and palazzo pants with flowing shapes, that seem to get out of a picture. The ambiguous atmosphere of the Lagoon City, well expressed by film director Luchino Visconti in “Death in Venice”, is the background to Med winds men’s collection inspired by sailor uniforms: jackets with slim lapels and striped knitwear declined in a contemporary ensemble.
The spirit of Med winds leads us to seek and discover new places and stories that we will tell through garments which perfectly embody the Mediterranean lifestyle, and our own lifestyle.
Med winds: never stop exploring – your origins, your places, your style.

Med winds: never stop exploring – your origins, your places, your style.

New year means a brand new start and great returns, so welcome back “IED + StyleSwitch x Emerging Designers” feature! This collaboration is powered by IED Moda Milano where emerging talents are born and raised, and we want to tell you about all these stories, made of incredibly creative people ready to (or who have already) spread their wings hitting the runways or trade shows around the world.
This time the zoom is on Casamadre, womenswear, menswear and footwear brand founded by Alessia Crea and Davide Parisi. “Casa” (“Home”) and “Madre” (“Mother”) are ordinary words with a strong meaning: landmarks and safe harbour of everyone’s life. The combination of them has given life to something really personal. Casamadre represents a world of travellers who blend their identities, passions and values and the result is clothes with a unique identity, that never lose its sense of belonging. The brand’s style is absolutely contemporary, it draws lifeblood from its traditions and at the same time from new emotions. The Fall/Winter 2016-17 collection has got a gipsy mood: land, sea, taste and smell create games of opposites strongly evocative. Decorative and minimal style, superpositions and lightness, black and white, men and woman. An essentiality that has the taste of freedom. Alessia and Davide define themselves as a white sailing boat out at sea, ready to anchor near rocky cliffs: closely linked to their traditions, but with eyes wide open to the future. Let them tell us more of this close relationship, as strong as a sailing knot.

How did you find your passion for fashion?
Alessia: I’ve always had passion for fashion. As soon as I realized that what I loved could have been my job, I committed myself everyday to it.
Has working in fashion always been your dream?
Davide: Design has always been my prerogative, in fact I studied industrial design and fashion got me over later. I don’t believe there are boundaries between products. I want to describe an idea or image, and through fashion I can express it better.
Who and what really pushes you to pursue this career?
Alessia: My family wanted me to attend classical studies, such as law or medicine. I have a Law degree that I have put aside when I realized that I have to focus on what I really love. Being a designer is not simply a hobby, like my parents think. It’s a real job that requires all my efforts. So I decided to enroll at IED Moda in Milan and follow my dreams.
Professional turning point.
David: Our professional turning point was winning Who’s on Next award in 2013: we won this contest with a collection of shoes inspired by 1930s circus style. This brought us a lot of visibility and challenged us ever since.
Which are the strengths of your collections?
Alessia: I believe that our strength is the identity of the collections themselves. We try to describe a precise moment, an image or a character and we do it with every detail, colours and material we use.
What inspired you in the past and what can influence now your work?
Davide: The inspiration comes from stories and characters. Each season we add a chapter to our history. Surely our origins, but also Japanese culture have an important role in our work.
How about future projects?
David: We worked with the Lanificio F.lli Cerruti and we have new projects in the pipeline. We are working at a tailoring project and we will have news about our products thanks to important collaboration with Italian excellences.
Describe your IED – Milan experience and how it has artistically influenced your growth as designers.
Alessia: IED gave me the tools I needed to enter the fashion world, and at the same time it helped me to understand what my strengths were and which weaknesses I had to work on. At the end of the third year I start searching for an image and a feeling that I wanted to share with people and it is still the same as it was.

Let’s go somewhere far away from the crowded and cold London today. We are going to bring you in a warm and exotic place, where to breath Ancient history at every step. While being brushed by the golden light of the sun reflecting on the Pyramids, have a look at Okhtein, a brand new bag and accessory brand that we have met during the past London Fashion Week.
Siblings Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf launched Okhtein (meaning “sisters” in Arabic) in 2013, out of the desire to realise something unique in order to bring fashion and luxury back in their Country, promoting local artisanship and made in Egypt manufacturing. In love with fashion and with a background in art, marketing and media, they decided to set up their business keeping the core of the design process in Cairo. The ultra-local manufacturing is studied to help also the local community: Okhtein collaborates with many NGOs in order to support skilled female workers.
One of their most recent collaborations is with Egypt’s oldest, most exclusive fine jewelry firm, Select Jewelry. The result of this partnership is a collection inspired by the trends from the ‘90s, pictured in timeless polaroids: from lambskin chokers —we so much love them!—, to golden necklaces and bracelets and bobby-pin earrings. The minimal look and contemporary mood of this collection literally caught us amazed!
Talking about Okhtein handbags, Aya and Mounaz throw us back again in the ’90s and in their childhood with Future Nostalgia capsule collection, by featuring some of the most iconic cartoon characters of that time on them: colorful, quirky prints and a pop-style allure that made us say WOW! The main collection is at the same time so appealing and extremely original: did you spot the Palmette Flower leather backpack being featured on Elle Spain, Teen Vogue and People Magazine?! It has also been chosen by celebrities like Emma Watson to complete their look!
We find these designers truly motivating because of their commitment to combine innovation in art and high craftsmanship, sustaining their community; we would like you to feel inspired too: read this amazing journey on Okhtein’s blog (https://www.okhtein.com/blog/) and follow all their updates on Facebook and Instagram.
Embrace the difference you want to see in your world!
