Since our yard is completely iced over this morning, I’m guessing the answer to this question is: Jack Winter (whoever he may be–a relative of Peter Pan, perhaps?). Regardless, I’m really liking the earring-sculpture-thing she’s got going on.

Ahh, these shoes. A very exciting day at the thrift store indeed, only to turn out when I got home that they absolutely did not fit. Yet I refused to take them back–they were marked 8/5! They should have fit! Try a different stocking–a different time of day–anything! Sadly, still no. This great ’80s’ court-heel (which I wish I’d managed to photograph better) was not meant for me, and sometime in the fall I passed the pair along to my friend Tiffany, whose feet unfairly slipped right in. She was the happy recipient of these Bally boots as well, and she’s now one of my most enthusiastic shopping buddies. And though these may have been the first pair of vintage YSL heels to walk my way, happily they weren’t the last. I do wish they’d fit, though.

Morgan Sézalory’s new label Sézane launched online yesterday, and it’s really, really good. Like, everything-you-need-to-look-like-a-cool-French-girl-without-trying good. None of this is surprising, as fans of her previous venture Les Composantes, which closed in February, well know (I wish I’d grabbed this bag when I had the chance), but what’s especially exciting about Sézane is that Morgan is designing full time. This means we’ll be getting both seasonal collections and limited special editions, until the pieces sell out. Which means I’d better pick up a pair of the glitter-stripe booties, ASAP. And you probably should too.

It properly feels like winter here in the desert, complete with dreary skies and dropping temperatures, so all I’ve wanted to do for the last – well, quite a while, really – is sit with a nice cuppa watching something marginally entertaining and knit. And pretty much nothing else. Just, knit. Oddly enough, this isn’t making me the most popular person in my household, where there are supposedly other, more important (and grown-up) things to do, like cleaning and looking for a job. Happily, I’m not alone in my habit, and showing my critics things like Brooklyn Tweed’s incredible look books goes at least a little way toward convincing them that, if they just leave me to it, they might become Wool People themselves. Or at least very warm, well turned-out people who are doing even a tiny bit to promote and preserve American agricultural and processing industries, as well as the cultures of design and craft.
Not the least worthwhile argument, though I make it myself.
