WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!

comics are indeed here again! AND - if you haven't noticed poking around my WCN site, I'm also launching Page-a-Day, my daily sketchbook comic! that's right - comics every day!

I can already hear some of you asking, "why is he doing this sketchbook thing when he could be doing more NB pages?!" the situation right now is that since my daughter was born this summer I've only been able to manage one full NB page a week at best - occasionally two. I decided to do Page-a-Day because it seemed like a fun idea. I gave myself two weeks of doing it and had no problem drawing little comics every day, mostly during lunch at work, and it didn't impact my Nothing Better work at all. plus I think it showcases a different side of my work and puts me out there with something new every day. so we'll see how it goes - it's definitely an experiment.

that said, if it ever works out that I can post more than one NB page a week I certainly will. I want the story to move ahead just as much as you all do!

Cori and I will be at Fallcon at the State Fairgrounds next weekend. It's the show's 20th Anniversary so it promises to be big - stop on by!

Also, I've been selected to be part of Hot Ink: Comic Art in Minnesota, opening next week at the Minnesota Museum of American Art in St. Paul. The exhibition runs from Sept 28 - March 22 and the opening party is Friday October 3rd at 8pm. This is your chance if you're in the Twin Cities area to see some of my original work and work by lots of other amazing and talented Minnesota-based comic makers!

All of the Nothing Better guest comics have run over the summer - thanks again to everyone who helped with that - and of course I haven't had time to do the short story I was planning on posting. In fact I haven't made ANY comics since Charlotte was born. BUT - I do have chapter 13 written and am working on the page layouts. I'll have more comics soon.

Nothing Better is going on Summer Vacation!

This Friday June 27th will see the last page of Nothing Better Volume 2 update. Beginning Tuesday July 1st (and updating every Tuesday/Friday) a slate of guest comics will start up to carry us through the summer. Guest comickers were asked to tell their own college or college-inspired stories and I've got lots of good stuff from many talented friends and peers to share.

Over the course of the summer I'll be busy writing Volume 3 of Nothing Better, doing some freelance work and enjoying being a new father. I'll also have some random comics and art of my own to share. Hopefully we'll manage to entertain you.

Nothing Better Volume 3 will begin updating online on Tuesday September 2nd!

(and for those wondering, the plan is to have the print version of Nothing Better Volume 2 out early next summer, so be patient!)

Charlotte Nicole Page was born on Friday June 6th! Both baby and mom are doing very well. I've been home from MCAD for the last week as we get used to life with our new daughter and so far it's been going great.

I've also been finishing up the last few pages of NB Volume 2 - which will end on the last day of June. After that it will be a summer full of sweet guest comics and other random stuff as I take some time to relax, spend time with my family, and write Volume 3, which will begin in September!

I recently signed up with Wowio, a site where you can download PDFs of books for free! (you have to register though) Authors earn 25 cents for every book under 100 pages and 50 cents for every book over 100 pages that is downloaded! They stick some ads in your PDF to support the service. I thought I'd give it a shot as it's a way for people to be able to download and read Nothing Better whenever they want. Plus, I'm uploading individual chapters to try and make a bit more money - in the few days since I uploaded the first chapter I've already earned about 10 bucks! I'll try and keep the curious updated on how this continues to pan out.

I'm finishing up the last few pages of Volume 2 of Nothing Better and am deep into outlining Volume 3! Click over to the LiveJournal to check out an initial outline and some recent sketches.

I've been working on a pitch for a non-NB graphic novel over the last few months. Click on the image to go check it out!

As I've noted on the WCN page - I don't intend on finishing the story unless someone wants to publish it. I hope they do because I like the characters. I'm in the final stages of getting the actual pitch together and I should be sending it off to publishers in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, let me know what you think of this. do you like it? do you want to read the rest? where do you think it's going?

This year kicks off with a bang, with Nothing Better Vol 1: No Place Like Home getting an Honorable Mention in the Publisher's Weekly Comics Critic's Poll, so if you ever needed a reason to buy the book, there ya go! (hint, hint, hint...)

Yipes! It's been too long, but I've been busy cranking out Nothing Better pages and working on a pitch for another project. In other news, Cori and I have embarked on a different kind of project - we'll be having a baby next June! So far everything with the baby has gone well and we might be able to find out the sex at our ultrasound after Christmas. Stay tuned for more!

Over at The Onion's AV Club website, editor Tasha Robinson gives a nice review of Nothing Better Volume 1.

She says nice things like, "In particular, his insight into the minds of early college students is spot-on; it's hard to decide whether to sympathize with them or slap them as they grapple with the big questions as though no one has ever considered such things before."

I am pleased and honored to announce I have won a Xeric Grant to self-publish Nothing Better Vol 1! This is awesome because now the book will see print far sooner than I was expecting. The book should be printed in June so I can have it at MoCCA in New York and will likely ship to comics stores for September. More to come.
