<p>Read on.  I have a proposition for you.</p>
<p>In the Dave Frees tradition of trying to deliver<br />
massive value, and in giving to one another,<br />
I&#8217;m going to make a radical proposal to all of you<br />
who follow me, read my blogs, and/or newsletters<br />
and alerts on marketing, management, persuasion,<br />
influence and leadership:</p>
<p>And before we begin, I should say that I stole this<br />
brilliant idea from a buddy Neil Strauss with whom I<br />
am also doing this project.  It was just soooooooo<br />
gooood that we have to do it here.</p>
<p>So what&#8217;s this piece of genius?</p>
<p>What if we pledge, together, to read from 25 to<br />
52 of the best life-transforming books from the<br />
areas of, social dynamics, psychology, mastery,<br />
business marketing and management,personal and<br />
financial growth,and other big-idea books together<br />
in 2012?  That&#8217;s one every week or two.</p>
<p>And even more radically: </p>
<p>What if we read ALL of those books by<br />
spending no more than FIFTEEN minutes a<br />
week on each one?</p>
<p><strong>How might that affect your business and your life?</strong></p>
<p>Might you get ideas for more profit, more satisfaction,<br />
better control, greater wealth and happiness in<br />
many areas of your business and life?</p>
<p><strong>Does it sound impossible to read that quickly?</strong></p>
<p>It is, but getting the truly big benefit isn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>Not if we work together.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the plan: </p>
<p>If you are anything like me (and since you&#8217;re on this list or<br />
you&#8217;re already a friend- I&#8217;ll bet<br />
you are) you have a reading list longer than you<br />
have time for.</p>
<p>So instead of all of us reading every book, the plan is<br />
to assign one book to each selected reader of the Dave<br />
Frees Useful News Letter or to a member of the<br />
<a href="http://www.3DaysToSuccess.com">www.3DaysToSuccess.com mastermind list</a> or to any of<br />
my blog readers and <a href="http://www.Twitter.com/davefrees">Twitter followers</a> and <a href="http://www.Facebook.com/DavidFrees">Facebook<br />
friends.<br />

<p>Each selected person would then write up an<br />
&#8220;executive summary&#8221; to share with all of us that<br />
would take just 15 minutes to read. </p>
<p><strong>Each Executive Summary would feature: </p>
<p>1) the salient points,<br />
2) the big strategies,<br />
3) any reader epiphanies,<br />
4) great quotations, and<br />
5) applicable takeaways and action items from<br />
the great book.</p>
<p></strong></p>
<p>I&#8217;ve taken the lead here with one of my favorite books<br />
that I haven&#8217;t yet shared with all of you: </p>

The Master Code To Abundance and Achievement<br />
by none other than the AD MAN and copy writer &#8211;<br />
Robert Collier.</strong></p>
<p>This is a lost gem.  </p>
<p>It&#8217;s loaded with big life strategies and<br />
actionable ideas to tame the chaos in your life,<br />
to regain balance, and to become wealthier &#8211; however<br />
you define wealth -without losing yourself and<br />
your freedom.</p>

<p>Neil has called it crowdsourced reading. </p>
<p>I like to think of it as network intelligence.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s also great motivation to start that exciting<br />
book that&#8217;s been sitting at the top of your reading<br />
pile&#8211;or to share your passion for a favorite book you&#8217;ve<br />
already read.</p>

select group of hand-picked students that I personally<br />
coach throughout the year at multiple events and by<br />
teleconference. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s not for everyone and it&#8217;s expensive but we have really<br />
catapulted one another&#8217;s business models to new levels<br />
that make the investment truly a bargain. </p>
<p>Since we spend quite a few days together, eat great food<br />
together, stay at beautiful resorts together, and are<br />
considering taking a cruise or adventure trip together,<br />
it&#8217;s vitally important that everyone in the<br />
group is successful in their own field, so they help each other<br />
out in their various personal, life, and business goals.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Marketing, Management and Life Lessons Learned In 2011</strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s fitting, early each year, to consider the successes, failures and other<br />
sources of information from the prior year.  </p>
<p>And, it&#8217;s essential if we want to progress, make more of our lives, and achieve<br />
the things we want to achieve, that we learn from our experiences, the<br />
experiences of otters, and from the useful information that now bombards us<br />
with such ferocity, that it&#8217;s becoming ever harder to discern what really matters<br />
and to find the nuggets, tricks, ideas, strategies, and practices that really<br />
make life better.</p>
<p>So with that in mind, I look back on the lessons of 2011 and look forward to<br />
how we can make life better for ourselves, armed with this information,<br />
in 2012 and beyond.  </p>
<p>For convenience, I have divided the lessons into several sub groups including<br />
marketing, management and life lessons.  But they are really not properly pigeon<br />
holed in this way.  </p>

<p>After all, what makes us more productive can make our lives better or worse,<br />
if we&#8217;re not otherwise prepared.</p>
<p>A marketing plan that yields less of the desirable and profitable work and<br />
more of the &#8220;bad&#8221; stuff, might make both our personal and business lives<br />
worse not better.  </p>
<p>By contrast, a simple, change in a personal practice (finding time for meditation,<br />
or managing our energy differently) might make it possible to get more done at<br />
work, host profit and make life generally more satisfying.</p>
<p>So read on with an open mind.  Consider adopting or trying one or more of the<br />
ideas.  Find one that might fit you.  And start to look for evidence of how it might<br />
be changing things for the better.  Enjoy!</p>
<p><strong>Marketing Lessons</strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s the nature of what I do (teaching persuasion, ethical influence, mediation, and<br />
leadership skills as well as being a trust and estates lawyer for affluent business<br />
leaders and family business owners) that I come into contact with some fascinating,<br />
exciting, and wealthy men and women.</p>
<p>For years I was able to help them in many ways and I loved being around them.  </p>
<p>But a while back, it struck me that if I only paid attention, and asked great questions,<br />
I had an amazing faculty of teachers available to me.  So while I helped them, I started<br />
really paying attention to what they were great at, how they did it, and how I could<br />
apply these ideas in my own world.  </p>
<p>And, in 2011 I was surrounded by smart professionals, business owners, and<br />
executives that taught me more than ever before.  </p>
<p><strong>Here are a few from the marketing area:</strong></p>
<p>1) Most of the profit in any business is one the back end &#8211; This one was a reminder<br />
from my friend Bill Glazer and his partner mean old Dan Kennedy.  Bill is a super<br />
savvy marketer and Dan is a legend and a brilliant business marketing mind. </p>
<p>When I spoke for them at their Super Conference, I also listened to everything<br />
that they said.  And this gem seemed simple to apply and was amazingly effective.</p>
<p>Client/customer reactivation can be an incredible source of wealth and profit.<br />
We had a client reactivation campaign that was so successful, that we had to shut<br />
it off until we got caught up.  This cost us a tinny fraction of what it would have cost<br />
to get that many new clients.  And, since we had an up-sell and a back end of services,<br />
we were better able to bring value to great clients while we increased the profitability<br />
of each one.</p>
<p>2) Real profit and value lies in understanding your prospect/client and customer&#8217;s<br />
problems and how they describe them.  It was Eben Pagan who reminded me that<br />
someone who is able to better articulate the client and customers problems than they<br />
are, they will assume that you have the solution to that problem.  </p>
<p>Make sure that you do then make sure you can explain both the problem and the<br />
solution in the way that they do.</p>
<p>The first goal of effective marketing and product or service development must always<br />
be create value for the client or customer.  But nothing happens until you know and<br />
understand their greatest fears, concerns, and aspirations and how to explain them.</p>
<p>3) Find a new source of the best types of business… but not just yet.  First, make<br />
sure that you have already dissevered the real problems faced by the real people that<br />
make up your market, how to solve them, and how to sell them more real value<br />
(even more profitably) on the back end).  </p>
<p>But, once you have solved that, finding just one more source of clients and/or<br />
customers can explode a business.  </p>
<p>Some new sources to consider:  1) doing a joint venture with a &#8220;competitor&#8221; who<br />
might have a list of clients and customers that would love your products and services and vice<br />
versa. 2) discover a new advertising source such as Google image ads or Facebook,<br />
3) start using a newsletter with a special offer (high value and lower cost for your existing<br />
clients and/or customers, and 4) start using an auto responder to deliver more value,<br />
information, and offers to existing clients and prospects &#8211; automatically,<br />
5) Do more video for your web sites but do it strategically so that each video does<br />
something specific in your marketing process.</p>
<p><strong>Management Lessons:</strong></p>
<p>1) Simplify &#8211; Bill Glazer and I were on the phone one day when I was asking about doing<br />
a thing in more than one market.  Bill encouraged focus.  Then I was on the phone with<br />
Frank Kern and he said &#8220;I&#8217;m not a fan of doing two things.  Make one work first.&#8221;  </p>
<p>The lesson? It&#8217;s better to do a few things that offer higher margins than many many low<br />
margin activities.  More usually creates stress and anxiety.  </p>
<p>Simplicity leads to real understanding of the market, the business, where it comes from<br />
and how it gets done.  Improvement is easier and life is often better.</p>
<p>2) Create more systems &#8211; This sounds more complex but it&#8217;s actually simplification.<br />
When you discover the many points in your business that can be systematized to create<br />
more consistent results without your direct involvement, life will be better. </p>
<p>For example, marketing systems should be created and applied.  Specific Example:<br />
Create a video, have it edited, have it transcribed, have someone post it to your<br />
youtube channel, have them cut and paste the transcript into the right field etc.  </p>
<p>Likewise, the transcripts can be automatically sent to be edited and a report created<br />
that can be posted to your site or sent to clients. </p>
<p>When these things are documented and applied consistently throughout a system,<br />
real results are achieved without you spending time on less productive activities.</p>
<p>Creating systems is work and time intensive but yields results and might make it<br />
possible for you to finally tame the dragon that eats away at your life.</p>
<p>3) Create training videos &#8211; We all know that we have valuable systems, knowledge<br />
and skills.  Yet, we live in few that an employee who is essential might leave.<br />
But, it&#8217;s hard to document our systems and knowledge.  But, creating videos of each<br />
process and job can be easy, fun, and very valuable. Last year we had every employee<br />
and sub contractor do a job description and then had summer interns video tape each<br />
job, system, and process.  </p>
<p>These were posted as private videos on our youtube channel created for truing.<br />
Now we have a great resource.  We  have protected important information and have<br />
created a training tool that takes some of the fear out of training new employees.</p>
<p><strong>Life Lessons</strong></p>
<p>1) Say no more often and be more grateful &#8211; Every few years I resolve to be better<br />
at saying no.  I often agree to do things that are a distraction , that I don&#8217;t like, or<br />
that simply make me less efficient at doing the most important things.  </p>
<p>But, when I am focused on doing what&#8217;s important and remember  that saying<br />
no makes me better, I do it more often.  Try it.   It&#8217;s liberating.</p>
<p>2) Being more always, and paradoxically, starts with being happy where we are &#8211;<br />
I don&#8217;t pretend to understand this, but when we want to be more, do more, and to<br />
improve, we tend to focus on what we are failing to achieve.  </p>
<p>But we practice loving life where we are right now, in our current condition,<br />
we seem, as humans, to then be freed to do more.  Try it. </p>
<p>3) Manage energy not just time &#8211; I learned this lesson from watching Tony Schwartz<br />
lecture, and by studying the great resources at <a href="http://www.TheEnergyProject.com ">www.TheEnergyProject.com </a></p>
<p>This lesson yields amazing results.</p>
<p>4) Start using inevitability thinking &#8211; This is another one from Eben Pagan.<br />
Eben&#8217;s theory is that when we set a goal or identify what we want, we need to say ask:<br />
&#8220;What would I need to do, say, be?  How would I need to act?  What resources would<br />
I need to have? To  make it INEVITABLE that I would succeed?</p>
<p>There were many many more thoughts, ideas, lessons, strategies, and tactics than made<br />
my life better, simpler, richer and more satisfying in 2011.  I also learned a lot from the<br />
failures and the points where I was stuck and failed to achieve.  </p>
<p>I have a list…. a long one that will form the basis of loads of new posts, articles,<br />
reports, and seminars this year and into 2013.</p>

One of the hallmarks of the masters of influence and persuasion<br />
is the ability to notice deception &#8211; in themselves and<br />
others.  Another is the mental acuity to notice the small<br />
things that make a difference to groups and individuals.</p>
<p><strong>Why do these skills matter and how do they relate?</strong></p>
<p>Well, when you train yourself (consciously or intuitively) to<br />
pay attention to attempts to deceive you, you are also practicing<br />
the valuable skill of real and true awareness of<br />
how others communicate and what they really want and need.</p>
<p>And, when you are able to get to the truth of what others<br />
want, and commit to honestly assessing your own willingness<br />
and ability to help them to get it, then your personal integrity,<br />
influence and persuasive skills soar. You earn the respect AND trust<br />
of others and when trust is recognized, present and deserved,<br />
everything (relationships and business) works faster and more smoothly.</p>
<p>When you no longer accept what is said at face value, you really get<br />
to the heart of what others truly want and need.  </p>
<p>And, when you no longer deceive yourself about what you can and will do<br />
to help another person, business, or group, then more trust and power are<br />
created. </p>
<p>When you can recognize a lie and self deception, you become much<br />
more powerful and others know that you have a connection to them and<br />
a desire to help that transcends the attention and ordinary way in<br />
which they interact with others.</p>
<p>So, if you have always wanted to be a human lie detector or just a<br />
little better at detecting attempts to deceive or, if you have always wanted<br />
to get to the real wants and needs of friends, family members, customers, clients<br />

<strong>How&#8217;s life working out for you? Right Now?<br />

If you had to rate your business and your personal<br />
life on a scale of 1-10 how would they rate?</p>
<p>Does each day look and feel like you want it to?<br />
Are you fulfilled, alive and accomplishing something<br />
vital?  Do you feel rested, calm and on point?</p>
<p>Do you &#8220;magically&#8221; and effortlessly get what you<br />
feel that you really want?</p>
<p>If the answers to these questions &#8211; even the<br />
silent and internal thought responses as you<br />
read them made you feel frustrated, anxious, or<br />
unsatisfied, then keep reading&#8230;.</p>
<p><strong>It&#8217;s going to get better.</strong></p>
<p>You see, there are a few ideas, strategies, and<br />
methods for getting more done with less energy<br />
and feeling better than you ever thought possible.</p>
<p>And, there is a way that people get the things that they<br />
desire while others seem to always be running into<br />
secret and invisible barriers to achieving their own goals.</p>
<p>And, while these powerful secrets aren&#8217;t secret at all<br />
they might as well be.  </p>
<p>The people who learn them and<br />
how to &#8220;DO THEM&#8221; make more money, give more to<br />
others, feel more fulfilled, and are just plain happier<br />
than those who don&#8217;t.</p>
<p>The people who learn them, and who DO THEM don&#8217;t<br />
want to keep them secret.  In fact, they become so<br />
enthusiastic, that the often become like evangelists.<br />
They tell everyone.  But no one believes them.</p>
<p>And often, the evangelists are bad teachers.  They<br />
know how they make more money, became more<br />
influential, and found happiness.  They just can&#8217;t<br />
explain to others how to do it.  And, it seems too simple,<br />
so everyone ignores them.</p>
<p>So in this installment, we examine the meta strategy,<br />
of -<strong> Knowing what you will and will not do</strong>,<br />
the strategies to make life better once you know them,<br />
and specific ideas about how to DO THEM which is often the<br />
missing link when it comes to self improvement.</p>
<p>I want to transform my life into something better.  You<br />
want to transform your life too.</p>
<p>People are forever telling me the obvious things to do<br />
but not how to do them. Do they do that to you?</p>
<p>Examples?  Be more upbeat. Get more rest.<br />
Eat better.  Stop smoking. Stay calm and don&#8217;t get<br />
so excited. </p>
<p>Easy to say.  </p>
<p>Often hard to do &#8211; until you learn<br />
the secret that works for you.</p>
<p>So the first meta strategy to having and getting what<br />
you want is this &#8211; You need to know what<br />
you really want.  That&#8217;s old advice.  It&#8217;s harder to know than<br />
you&#8217;d think. </p>
<p>And, just doing this will not get you what you<br />
really want.  It will not get you the transformation in<br />
your life that you really desire. But read on because there<br />
is a way to achieve that change that  you want.</p>
<p>There is really no way around it. For most of us, we have<br />
to write down what we want.</p>
<p>The things have to be described with specificity, vividly,<br />
and in emotional terms that activate our desire and creativity.</p>
<p>And if you&#8217;re saying &#8220;I&#8217;ve done this a hundred times and still<br />
don&#8217;t have that care, life, house, vacation, job&#8230;.or whatever&#8221;<br />
you&#8217;re not alone.  So what&#8217;s the deal?</p>
<p>It turns out, that we <strong>need to also know what we will and<br />
will not do to get these things/feelings/people in our<br />
lives etc.  </strong>Until we do, invisible barriers are erected that<br />
often prevent us from achieving goals that we outwardly<br />
say we desire with passion.</p>
<p>And, once we know what we will and will not do then it turns<br />
out that we must relentlessly implement these actions-<br />
the things that we will do.  And we can avoid the things that we<br />
won&#8217;t do.</p>
<p>So enough about the meta strategy.</p>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s the strategy and how do we actually do this?</strong></p>
<p>So first you&#8217;ve identified what you really want.<br />
You have written what you want in multiple areas of your life<br />
and you&#8217;ve done it with specificity, and in a way that really<br />
activates your desire.</p>
<p>While you&#8217;re in that state of excitement now ask yourself-<br />
<strong>What am I willing, able, and excited about doing to<br />
make this a reality?</strong></p>
<p>Go ahead.  Make the list.  List them all.<br />
List every damn thing that you&#8217;re willing to do to have<br />
the things that you say you want in your life.</p>
<p>Now here&#8217;s the tricky part.</p>
<p>Next ask yourself &#8211; <strong>&#8220;What am I not willing to do<br />
to get the desired result?</strong></p>
<p>Now there is a third step.</p>
<p>Is there anything on the will not do list that is a deal<br />
killer? Is there something on that list that is essential<br />
to get you to the goal?</p>
<p>If so, you have to modify the goal or find  a way to<br />
get it done without that step.  Otherwise you&#8217;re doomed.<br />
It will never happen.</p>
<p>You see, this is the mistake that many successful<br />
people make when they try to explain their happiness,<br />
financial success and personal lifestyle success to otehrs/<br />
They think that it&#8217;s the goal setting.</p>
<p>They think it&#8217;s that they wrote the goals down, or that<br />
they were passionate about it.</p>
<p>But what they were really doing was activating a basic human<br />
driver of behavior.  The desire to acquire and/or to achieve.<br />
This is built into our DNA at a very deep level.</p>
<p>But, you can desire all that you want and never achieve<br />
the desired thing or result if you&#8217;re unwilling to do<br />
something essential to your plan.</p>
<p>If one basic behavioral driver -the drive to acquire is in<br />
conflict with another survival instinct, or behavioral driver<br />
then nothing happens.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s see a particular example.</p>
<p>You deeply desire a shore/lake/mountain or other vacation<br />
home.  You have pictured it and described it in detail.<br />
You know all of the features it will have and the benefits to<br />
you and your loved ones.</p>
<p>Your passionate about it.  You have activated the basic<br />
human driver of action the desire to acquire things.<br />
You have come up with a shrewd plan to get this house.</p>
<p>Yet, for several years now you have not.  What&#8217;s wrong?</p>
<p>Well, if you&#8217;re plan of action required you to market<br />
your new and higher margin product or service with<br />
direct cold calling or public speaking and these activities<br />
were on your list of things that you&#8217;re simply not willing<br />
to do &#8211; even for the vacation home, then it will not happen.</p>
<p>If this seems obvious, it&#8217;s not.  Try the experiment.  Many<br />
of us create plans to get something and that require us to<br />
take actions that we will simple not do.</p>
<p>We then claimed to be surprised and frustrated that<br />
we&#8217;ve &#8220;tried everything&#8221; but have not succeeded.</p>
<p>Likewise, if you&#8217;re not willing to take the time from work<br />
that you need to to fly to the area where you want to buy,<br />
and to look at houses, hire a Realtor, create ads to attract sellers<br />
of the exact type of home you want  then it&#8217;s not going to happen.</p>
<p>If it does, you&#8217;re lucky which does count for a lot.</p>
<p>But for most people, their luck changes only when you confront<br />
the demon of what you&#8217;re willing and not willing to do to get the<br />
desired vacation home.  Only then can<br />
you really construct a plan of action and begin to implement<br />
actions that will &#8220;magically&#8221; get you want you want.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll have eliminated the otherwise invisible obstacles<br />
that have so often prevented the transformation of your life<br />
and things, good or even great things, will start to happen.</p>
<p>The next and final step that seems to crate the alchemical<br />
magic of getting what you want is relentless implementation.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not the only person to observe this.</p>
<p>People who, once they have a plan consistent with the list<br />
of things that they will and will not do, begin to relentlessly<br />
do the things on that list seem to be very lucky.</p>
<p>My friend Perry Marshall recently wrote:</p>
<p>&#8220;I find a startlingly consistent correlation between LISTENING TO<br />
A VERY SMALL GROUP OF MENTORS, PREFERABLY JUST ONE ><br />
MASSIVE, ALMOST RECKLESS IMPLEMENTATION ><br />
and EVENTUAL SUCCESS. </p>
<p>Not 100% mind you, but enough that I can usually identify<br />
why someone hasn’t succeeded. It’s seldom all that hard.&#8221;</p>
<p>Perry knows.  Both Perry and I have actually transformed our lives<br />
-several times.  And, we&#8217;ll do so again.<br />

OK.  An Easy To Use Formula.</strong></p>
<p>Being able to catch the attention of your clients and<br />
prospective clients is essential to building a better and<br />
more enjoyable and profitable business or professional<br />
practice.</p>
<p>And building trust, and adding value &#8211; value that is<br />
appreciated by the client &#8211; catapults a business or<br />
professional practice from the ordinary, boring, and<br />
mundane to the highly profitable and enjoyable.</p>
<p>So how do you do that?</p>
<p>Writing books, great reports, sales copy, headlines<br />
for blogs, articles, press releases, correspondence,<br />
ads, offers, and other materials is a skill, almost more<br />
than any other, that can build or<br />
destroy the trust and expertise that you need to radically<br />
improve the quality of your life and the profitability of<br />
your business.</p>
<p>It is persuasion in writing.  It is an essential skill.</p>
<p>Do you do it or just outsource these tasks?</p>
<p>If you do it, is your writing skill influential?<br />
Does it make people seek you out without having to<br />
be persuaded?</p>
<p>As my friend Perry Marshall says, &#8220;&#8230;extream profit<br />
opportunity exists only when the demand for your<br />
services or products exceeds your ability to provide<br />
them.&#8221;</p>
<p>When that happens, prices can increase.  Profit<br />
margins can increase, and perceptions of value,<br />
competence, experience and expertise all<br />
increase naturally and often exponentially.</p>
<p>So alright already.  How do we do that?</p>
<p>Focus your skill development on the 20% that<br />
gives you 80% <strong>or more </strong>of the benefits.</p>
<p>Of course, you have to have a great product or<br />
service. And we&#8217;re taking it for granted that<br />
you have identified a hungry and easy to reach<br />
niche market that is under served and has the<br />
ability to pay.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s quite a few assumptions and that last<br />
paragraph is worth a re-read.  But<br />
assuming all of that, then becoming more<br />
ethically and effectively persuasive and influential<br />
in writing is a key that can and does unlock<br />
the bank vaults already filled with unidentified<br />
profits in many businesses</p>
<p>And learning to become more persuasive,<br />
for many of the great copy writers of the past<br />
and present, has meant learning, creating, and<br />
adapting a few models, and formulas that make<br />
all written copy more engaging, effective, and<br />
therefore, more profitable.</p>
<p>This is the first, in a series of articles designed<br />
to get you to the point where persuasive,<br />
influential, and profitable writing is effortless.</p>
<p>So what is the formula?  There are several.<br />
But let&#8217;s take any easy one.</p>
<p>Want or need to write more engaging blog<br />
titles or email subject lines?  What if you<br />
got twice as many people to open an email<br />
and to take action?  Would your life be better?</p>
<p>So here&#8217;s an example of a formula and then<br />
how I go about creating, using, and reusing<br />
these tools.</p>
<p>Headline Formula from my friend Rick Frishman<br />
(the notes are mine):</p>
<p> <strong> &#8220;How the new _______ impact/s your<br />
_________&#8230; and ___ things you need to do about<br />
it now.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>And here&#8217;s a couple of examples also from Rick<br />
of how you might apply it:</p>
<p> &#8220;How the new wireless cell phone headsets<br />
impact your brain &#8230; and 5 things you need to<br />
do about it now.&#8221; </p>
<p>NOTE:  This works well<br />
in part because it asks you to consider how<br />
they impact YOU. It also offers a solution after<br />
agitating you.</p>
<p> &#8220;How the new tax code regulations impact your<br />
retirement plan &#8230; and 3 things you need to do<br />
about it now.&#8221; Again, YOUR retirement plan and a<br />
solution (or three) to the very problem the<br />
headline introduced.</p>
<p>You see, Rick didn&#8217;t make up the formula.  He<br />
observed it in action a number of times and<br />
created the formula, wrote it down, inserted<br />
the blanks and now uses it frequently when he<br />
writes copy.</p>
<p>Be ethical.  Don&#8217;t steal another person&#8217;s work.<br />
But don&#8217;t try to reinvent what works.  There<br />
are several great reasons &#8211; rooted in human<br />
psychology and primate behavior as to why<br />
this formula works.</p>
<p>USE THEM to your advantage.</p>

How To Learn and Use The Persuasive Skills of The Late Gary Halbert</strong></p>
<p>While The focus of many businesses, has turned to the use of<br />
the internet as the prime mode of delivering a marketing message,<br />
I&#8217;d like to take a moment to remember the good old days, when a<br />
letter, sent through the mail,was created in just such a way as to<br />
make it irresistible to open.</p>
<p>And then, once opened, the headline magically compelled you to<br />
read on&#8230;and on and on.</p>
<p>Reading a great copy, whether on the screen, or in a letter<br />
printed on paper is like magic.  </p>
<p>Each line &#8220;sells&#8221; you on reading the next,and the next, until<br />
you have consumed the letter.  And, if there is value for you<br />
in the offer, you feel compelled to buy.</p>
<p>In a really well drafted piece of work, you know it&#8217;s fine to<br />
buy and to evaluate the product or service that has been<br />
presented so enticingly, because the writer has revered<br />
or assumed all the risk.</p>
<p>There is a guarantee &#8211; perhaps even offering more than<br />
your money back if you aren&#8217;t completely satisfied, delighted<br />
or ecstatic.  The guarantee might even be for a year.<br />
Who would give such a guarantee unless the product<br />
was great?</p>
<p>There is nothing to lose&#8230;.except the incredible opportunity<br />
about which you&#8217;re reading, and time is of the essence.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t feel manipulated. You do feel curious, enticed, or<br />
filled with desire at your new find or discovery.  </p>
<p>There is nothing to lose and so much to be gained.<br />
Perhaps it has even offered you a return of ten times your<br />
investment or more, and within a reasonable period of time.</p>
<p>In any case, a great sales letter is like a &#8220;greased slide.&#8221;  </p>
<p>Once you get on the slide and you just keep going and<br />
going&#8230;.effortlessly.  And the author has, in the words of<br />
Collier, &#8220;entered the conversation&#8221; in your head.</p>
<p>Well, there are a few great and persuasive copywriters<br />
who were so good at this, that anyone with a desire to<br />
bring value to your customers or clients has to read their<br />
work and learn from the masters.</p>
<p>One of those masters was Gary Halbert.   </p>
<p>Gary has since passed away, and on June 12th it is<br />
the anniversary of his birthday.</p>
<p>He was prolific, and still has a lot to teach anyone<br />
who wants to be more persuasive, in any medium.</p>

<p>Dear David Frees,</p>
<p>June 12th should be called International Copywriters&#8217; Day<br />
because it is Gary Halbert&#8217;s birthday.</p>
<p>As with most great copywriters, my father loved stories. He<br />
had an incredible appetite for books and movies which helped<br />
make it easy for him to find the interesting story behind<br />
products and services.</p>
<p>He would take in 4 or 5 movies a week and while growing up,<br />
Kevin and I were always tagging along.</p>
<p>Pop would just grab the paper and scan it for a movie he had<br />
not already seen.</p>
<p>The movies were always playing in Westwood or up on<br />
Hollywood Blvd. and we would immediately head out to<br />
wherever the movie was playing next.</p>
<p>If there was time to kill, we would head to a bookstore<br />
where he could spend hours on end if need be.</p>
<p>To encourage reading, he bought us any book we wanted as<br />
long as we read it and I do the same for my kids.</p>
<p>If there was no time to hit up the bookstore, we would go<br />
right afterward.</p>
<p>So as you can imagine, my simple ritual is to take in a<br />
movie and go to the bookstore on his birthday which reminds<br />
me of how he taught us to enjoy life.</p>
<p>This year, his birthday falls on a Sunday and like me and<br />
my dad, you may not like crowded movie theaters, so here are<br />
a few other ways to properly celebrate the birth of The<br />
Prince of Print.</p>
<p>   1. Write about him. He loved to write and he wrote a ton<br />
      about himself so writing about Gary and spreading the<br />
      word of his newsletter is always a great way to pay<br />
      tribute. We&#8217;d love to read any stories about how he<br />
      affected your life.</p>
<p>   2. Help somebody. My father always helped a lot of people<br />
      around him and some of his proudest moments were when<br />
      he raised money for charity. His favorite charities<br />
      were children&#8217;s hospitals and family abuse shelters.<br />
      You could also simply help a stranger in some form or<br />
      fashion and just let them know you are paying back<br />
      Gary Halbert.</p>
<p>   3. Forgive someone. He loved the phrase, &#8220;everyone is<br />
      just doing the best they can&#8221; and he is right. He<br />
      certainly wouldn&#8217;t forgive anyone for anything,  but<br />
      he forgave a lot of trespasses and if you are<br />
      harboring resentment for someone&#8217;s bad behavior you<br />
      know wasn&#8217;t mean spirited but just a case of being<br />
      very lame, see if you can let it go.</p>
<p>   4. Share some raw honesty. One of Sir Gary&#8217;s greatest<br />
      gifts to the world was his brutal honesty which cut<br />
      through all the BS and told people what they needed<br />
      to know. Share with someone a simple trick which<br />
      really helped make your life or business better.</p>
<p>   5. Write a letter to your kids. No father ever gave their<br />
      son a greater gift than The Boron Letters. When you<br />
      write letters to your kids explaining things to them<br />
      they won&#8217;t learn in school, you end up sharing<br />
      yourself in a very profound way your kids will learn<br />
      to cherish more and more as they get older. They will<br />
      truly come to understand that you love them and see<br />
      that you have put time, energy and thought into them,<br />
      even when they were not around. Trust me on this.</p>
<p>So, if you are not near a good movie house and bookshop, any<br />
of the above suggestions is a perfectly fine way to<br />
celebrate the birth of the baby genius Gary C. Halbert.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Have you ever been trying to help another person or yourself to get over a trauma, a limiting belief, or some negative experience and just had the sense that they believe that it will go on for ever and ever?</p>
<p>Have you ever had a bad experience and suspected or told yourself that this is going to &#8220;last forever,&#8221; or &#8220;take a long time to get over?&#8221;</p>
<p>The reality is, that we humans can be, and often are, resilient and often able to make real and lasting changes in a short period of time. But the other reality is that we often want, for a variety of reasons, our changes or recovery to take a long time.</p>
<p>And, as you know from previous articles, we often get what we expect thanks, in part, to the <a href="http://www.successtechnologies.com/blog/you-get-what-you-look-for-why-thats-true-and-what-to-do-about-it/">reticular activating system</a> of the brain.</p>
<p>But if you really want change, and you want it now, or you&#8217;re trying to help someone else to achieve change, then you should be open to the belief that the problem might already be cured, the negative or limiting belief might be abandoned, and the traumatic feeling might be gone and it might never happen again.</p>
<p>Sure, you can acknowledge that it might take some time, minutes, hours, or even days, but be open to the idea, to the belief, that it might already be gone.</p>
<p>In fact, be open to the belief that you might, just by reading this article be better at helping, and persuading already and that you might be able to use this technique already, effortlessly, and effectively.</p>
<p>So how does it work and why?</p>

<p>Well, once you have been chatting with someone who has been experiencing a problem, and they now have a solution, simply say: &#8220;It might take a few tries to make this work, but be open to the belief that the problem is already solved.&#8221;</p>
<p>If you have established trust with this person, this phrase will often open their mind to a possibility that it had never considered before.</p>
<p>This simple phrase can have the dramatic effect of allowing them to imagine a world in which their problem, fear, or trauma, is already a thing of the past.</p>
<p>Hmmm&#8230;  Ethical persuasion that can accelerate learning, results, healing and improvements.  Got a use for that?</p>

<p><strong>Adjusting The Speed Of Web Video To Learn Faster And At Just The Perfect Speed For You</strong></p>
<p>Lately I&#8217;ve been focusing on ideas, tools and information to help you to regain control over your business and personal life without sacrificing profitability or quality.  </p>
<p>I just recently came across a little software tool that promised &#8211; and delivered &#8211; on just that need.</p>
<p>Do you watch a lot of instructional, informational, or entertainment videos on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGTTQXHlyhw">YouTube</a>, or the web in general? Statistics tell us that most Americans get more and more of their educational and entertainment from these sources.  </p>
<p>Have you ever come across a great video but it seemed to just lag?  Time was crawling, but you were afraid to jump ahead for fear of missing the good stuff or an important step?</p>
<p>Well, you might be interested in a program called <a href="http://www.enounce.com">Enounce MySpeed</a>.  This little baby allows me to speed up all video (and if it&#8217;s highly technical to slow it down) so that I can watch and listen to a video in half the time without negatively affecting the experience generally, or the learning experience specifically.</p>

Are you ever just crazy busy everyday? Have you missed one or more important events with your kids, friends, family members, or loved ones? Is there a boss, client or someone at work making your life miserable?  And now are the people in your personal life &#8211; the ones that really love you &#8211; getting fed up with your excuses?</p>
<p>That seems to happen a lot these days and we focus on ways to improve profitability while also gaining control over the &#8220;time dragon&#8221; that seems to make life crazy.</p>
<p>So&#8230;</p>
<p>What happens when you get 12 very smart business men and women sitting around a table (ok&#8230; and a pool) at a Las Vegas resort, far from the office, their phones and the day-to-day interruptions, and all they are doing is thinking about how to make their businesses, their practices, and their lives radically better?</p>
<p>The answer?  Loads of great ideas and shared resources that really can make a difference.</p>
<p>We all paid a load of money to sit around that table, but everyone left feeling that the investment of time, energy and money was very wise.  I know I have already done a number of things I learned from that meeting that have made a difference in my marketing and in my personal life.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m willing to share a few of the ideas and resources that you can steal and start using right now, in your own business and to help you to tame the time crunch tiger in your own life.</p>
<p><strong>Idea 1:</strong> Ever forget to bring your business cards?  Ever wanted to quickly share your business or personal information with loads of people at the same time?  Want to give them a clickable link so that they can get more information on a specific topic?</p>
<p>Well&#8230; there is a free service: <a href="http://www.contxts.com">Contxts</a> allows you, whether it be interacting one-to-one or speaking to a room of 1,000 people, to share your contact information or a link to specific content.  If you just need one &#8220;electronic business card,&#8221; the service is free to use.  If you want more, then it&#8217;s just a few bucks per month.</p>
<p>I started using it within minutes of my friend Bob Battle sharing it at the mastermind meeting. Here is how I use it: I often speak to audiences about estate planning (I am, by training a trust and estate lawyer).  When I am speaking, I simply say &#8220;To get more information, or to get my contact information just text the word &#8216;estateplan&#8217; to 50500.&#8221;  That&#8217;s it.</p>
<p>Anyone who can text now automatically gets my contact information and a link that they can click to get more information on that specific topic.</p>
<p>I created several of these: One for more information about trusts, one about elder law planning, and one about executors and estates.  I also created a separate one to promote my keynote speaking at conferences and conventions. It&#8217;s very cool and a very effective way to share information.</p>
<p><strong>Idea 2:</strong> Identify things that are repetitive, boring, and/or irritating in your personal life, and start outsourcing them to a virtual or real personal assistant to free up time.</p>
<p>This idea is examined throughly, and in great detail by Tim Ferriss (the king pin of lifestyle design) in his blog posts listed below.</p>
<p>However, most people do this in business and fail to even consider it in their personal lives.  You may be doing it already, and when you successfully expand this practice, your life gets better and better. For example, do you mow your own lawn?  If no, then you are already paying someone else to perform a task that you don&#8217;t like in order to recapture a few hours of your life.  If you aren&#8217;t paying someone to cut the lawn then I hope it&#8217;s because you either get relaxation or pleasure from doing it. If that&#8217;s not the reason, then consider getting someone else to do it. How much is an extra hour or three of your weekend worth?</p>
<p>Want another example?  Do you ever take shirts, a skirt or pants to the dry cleaner?  That&#8217;s outsourcing the washing and ironing. Use bill pay from your bank or credit card?  That&#8217;s outsourcing.  Ever buy cookies or a snack instead of making one for the kids&#8217; in school party? Outsourcing!</p>
<p>So what else might you outsource and to whom?</p>
<p>Believe it or not, you can outsource almost any repetitive task fairly easily and effectively.  And, you can often do it for less than you think.  I know people who have outsourced errands like weekly grocery shopping, making doctor and dentist appointments, picking up the mail from a post office box, and so on.</p>
<p><strong>Awesome Idea:</strong> Try <a href="http://www.fiverr.com">Fiverr</a> for postings of things that people will do for you for five dollars. It will blow you away.  And, you will get great ideas of things that you can outsource for very little money.</p>

<p><strong>Idea 3:</strong> Enhanced research or finding more of exactly what you need.  Do you ever research where to go on vacation? How about what doctor or dentist to see for a particular problem. Ever need to help the kids with homework on a topic that&#8217;s way over your head?  Need something for work that&#8217;ll set you out from the crowd?</p>
<p>There are a million reasons that we go to the web for information.  And, when we go we usually want to find out as much as we can about a particular topic (often an obscure one) in as little time as possible.</p>
<p>Well, start thinking about a few new tools.</p>
<p>First, <a href="http://www.youtube.com">YouTube</a> is now really a giant search engine.  Need instructions on how to set up a tent, build a fire, sew a hem, fix a computer, lawn mower or dehumidifier?  Try YouTube.  There may an instructional video right on point. Or, if you&#8217;re just looking for something funny &#8211; like a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Gyv8IXlRto">jack russell terrier barking at a Halloween decoration</a> then try one of mine.</p>
<p>Next, and, one of the best ideas I have ever heard about getting the best information from your internet research is a technique that I regularly use for work and have now started using for personal projects as well.</p>
<p>When you do a Google search, try this &#8211; insert your search terms followed by &#8220;and &#8216;.pdf&#8217; &#8216;.ppt&#8217;&#8221;  This little magic formula will turn up all of the PDF reports and Power Point presentations on your topic.  Very cool and very effective. This is especially great if you&#8217;re looking for health related or technical information for yourself, a friend or loved one.</p>
<p>Need ideas, directions, or a restaurant review?  Try <a href="http://www.facebook.com/">Facebook</a> or <a href="http://www.twitter.com/">Twitter</a> to find friends from that ton or who have tried the restaurant.</p>
