pledge drives are a necessary evil. here on the east coast i rely on kcrw for my morning news, and kcrw's morning becomes eclectic gets me through the afternoon lull with the world's, yes, the world's best music. sadly i have to avoid it during pledge week, and hop between west coast npr stations, hello san francisco, good morning aspen, rise and shine portland, stay alive seattle, keep going las vegas. it's a fun ride before returning to wnyc for my evening news here in new york. jason bentley is fantastic, and i love this little glimpse into his world.

only do i come to this blog when i find something truly on the cusp of change. building on another manhattan project, we work, grind has created a membership accessible workspace in union square (looks to be around 24th and park avenue south) that offers open desk space, speedy wifi, 2011 tech conference rooms, and intelligensia coffee (think sunset junction, la) the people behind it seem passionate, and it truly is ushering in our next era of work, as the past horrible recession, combined with 2011 tech forced so many people into the freelance world. wishing this company lots of success.

my postings have slowed, unless i come across something i find so visually appealing, and with enough images for a full presentation. this project by observatorium is that.

beautifully minimal, well crafted, and intended to eventually be rebuilt in 2013 over the future river Emscher, it was on display at emscherkunst 2010 in germany.

i love the idea of storing a building in knowledge instead of built form. reminds me of the japanese rebuilding of the ise shrine.

yes touchscreen, eye motion monitors, gestures, perhaps even human thought, will all someday enable us to control our world. and if the makers of glass, and those that invest in it, have their way, clear surfaces that house technology will surround us. human and machine working closer and closer. fingerprints (i assume someone will solve this soon), germs, constant stimulation, distraction, etc will surly keep growing as these machines surround us more and more, but hasn't this always been the case? and haven't the humans that have been able to balance this the best always faired better? I see the concern with where all this is going, so start now. balance moments of separation for independent thought and inspiration with the moments of your day you are constantly plugging away at a machine.

The Ice Book, bring pop-ups to life with projection

I love the idea of bringing facades to life using projection or "architectural mapping." It takes something that has always been viewed one way, and with technology, allows humans to create a whole different story.

This is a new example of using projection behind a paper cut-out. It's beautiful.
