It had grown cold in the last few days; he rubbed his hands, wondered if he should order for another coffee. He groped about his many pockets in search of the wily smokes; they always found a way of disappearing when needed the most. Just as he found the cigarettes and lighter, he saw the Russian.

The Russian, was trying to figure out the perfect angle, endeavoring to capture, a moment of perfect light at the dragon fountain, the dragon fountain from which flowed an unending stream of liquid light.

“Wait another hour, the light gets better.” He knew, he had spent the last few days sitting at the very same spot, looking at the light around him, trying to capture it in the words that he wrote.

The Russian looked at him, a look of utter incomprehension on his face. Oh, the Russian did not understand English, he thought to himself. Now, it was his turn to be at a loss, how do I explain him what I meant. Before he could start making crazy gestures, the Russian called out to her. He had not realized that the Russian was not alone. The Russian explained to his companion that the guy at the table was trying to say something in English which he obviously did not understand.

She looked at him and he repeated, “Wait for another hour, the light gets really good.”

“Aah!” She smiled and translated it to her companion. Now he understood, the Russian conveyed his impatience and proceeded to take the photographs.

He observed the Russians, his curiosity provoked, he sensed the moment growing, something was about to happen. The universe conspired and he lit up. The Russian having finished taking the photographs turned his attention to him and saw him smoking. Gestured towards him with his chin and asked her something.

She paused looking for the right words.  “Yes you can.” he said, offering one of his, such things don’t need words to be expressed, he thought to himself.

It made her uncomfortable, “Are you sure we can smoke, in this territory?”

The English was good but needed a little polishing, “Sure, I smoke here all the time.”

The Russian fished out a pack of cigarettes from his jacket, took out a cigarette and quickly lit up.

One hand on the chair, she asked, “Can we sit here?”

“Sure.” he said, closing his notebook and capping his pen.

While they smoked, she tried to make small talk, “Are you a writer?”

It did not surprise him, a lot of people had been giving him that all knowing stare the past few days. But yes, she was the first to put words to their collective thoughts. “No. Not yet.”

She smiled, “So what do you write about, fantasy?”

It was a gorgeous smile. Involuntarily, smiling back he found himself somewhat distracted, he wondered if his smile was as gorgeous as hers. The words sank in, they surprised him, he tilted his head and wondered aloud, “Fantasy? No. I write about Life.”

She looked quizzically at the notebook, there on the cover was written, MAJIC, in bold blue ink. “Oh, that!” He replied without thinking, “Life, my friend, is full of Magic.”

Her grey-green Ural eyes lit up. She smiled, he smiled and this time he knew, it was gorgeous too. The Russian joined in as the smile spread around the table, such things needed no translations either, The Light of The Souls, reflected.

He thanked the universe, yes, I write for The Magic that I see in the world around mi.

Sometimes, some of us do not learn to appreciate what we have even when we have lost it, untill someone comes along and pokes a finger in our eye.

Then there are those moments of complete darkness, when we do not appreciate what we have lost even when we are repeatedly poked in our eyes, for we are already blind.

Most of us are sometimes blinded at some or the other point in our lives due to a combination of Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride.

May there be light, now and forever, for one and all…

There is a movie and a couple of documentaries that have been playing in my head since last night. The movie you might have guessed, yes it is “V for Vendetta.” The documentaries that I am alluding to are by Adam Curtis, some of them, in fact all of those that are coming to my mind right now have aired over BBC between 2002 and 2007. I am sure not how many have had the displeasure of watching his documentaries but I am sure the number cannot be very large. I call them a displeasure because they cover subjects that are rather unsavory and don’t have happy endings, but, they are quite informative and I think rather pertinent to the current state of affairs, particularly in Ol Blighty and generally to the world that we live in today.

These are early days and I hope that nothing of the nature of what is described in the documentaries happens going forward. But you know what, I am kinda getting the heebeegeebees about this and moreover when the prime minister gets on TV and says that pockets of society are “sick” and that “We will not allow a culture of fear to exist on our streets,” my heebeegeebees don’t get assuaged in any manner.

Boris Johnson today called on the Government to reconsider its plans to reduce police numbers following widespread rioting across the country.

This quote from the movie gives a part of the motive that drives “V” to execute his Vendetta:

But, has nobody noticed that these are teens and young adults looting stores and venting anger!

The Prime Minister calling pockets of society “sick” is kind of true because they are sick but their disease is not what the Prime Minister eludes to, it is a little more deep rooted I think and that is precisely why I feel that what is happening in Ol Blighty today might see a lot of replays in the times to come.

The important question here is, why young adults and teens? of both sexes might I add and why so much anger and looting? The following documentaries give you the idea and you know what they say about ideas don’t you…

The Century Of Self by Adam Curtis ~ Wiki

Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, changed the perception of the human mind and its workings. His influence on the twentieth century is generally considered profound. The series describes the ways public relations and politicians have utilized Freud’s theories during the last 100 years for the “engineering of consent”.

Freud himself and his nephew Edward Bernays, who was the first to use psychological techniques in public relations, are discussed. Freud’s daughter Anna Freud, a pioneer of child psychology, is mentioned in the second part, as is one of the main opponents of Freud’s theories, Wilhelm Reich, in the third part.

Along these general themes, The Century of the Self asks deeper questions about the roots and methods of modern consumerism, representative democracy, commodification and its implications. It also questions the modern way we see ourselves, the attitudes to fashion and superficiality.

The series consists of three one-hour programmes which explore the concept and definition of freedom, specifically, “how a simplistic model of human beings as self-seeking, almost robotic, creatures led to today’s idea of freedom.”

As usual there is a lot of blame going around. Now, put to perspective the last two sets of documentaries (“The Century Of Self” and “The Trap”) and you will perhaps acknowledge that there is good reason for the blame and it is coming from a very different place. It just that the people don’t really realize that they have been played the way they have been played and to what extent.

Put the movie (V for Vendetta) and the first set of documentaries (The Power Of Nightmares) into perspective and you get a feel of where this has the potential of ending up.

NOTE
If you feel that this event is done and you don’t need to look at these depressing documentaries and one rather entertaining movie, I can assure you that the show is coming to a street near you, sooner or later. It would perhaps be in your interest to do a little research. Be warned though, if and when you do put all of these things into perspective you might not like what you see.

V: But again, truth be told, if you’re looking for the guilty you need only look into a mirror.

Do they, or rather will they still qualify for the 2012 Olympics? If not, is China in a position to re-host the 2012 Olympics? Will there be a 2012 Olympics? Dose it really matter, whether we have an Olympics or not when the world is practically falling apart? Personally, I am more worried about FIFA 2014, I was hoping to go to Brazil

On the home front, I wonder and cringe thinking about what might happen on our own streets come 16th August 2011. The Queen and the rest of The Royals are away on a sick leave, could it be a coincidence? Will our ratings remain intact in the aftermath? If not what happens to our oft touted, “growth story”?

P.S. Given that the times we live are getting rather interesting, maybe I should start writing a little more often

Software-bugs are the result of human errors and lack of completeness and logic during the creation-process. It’s a fundamental human shortcoming, for which a lasting cure is yet to be found.

Any attempts to correct buggy software without recreating it from scratch, will inevitably lead to even more and more complex bugs finding their way into the software, because of the same human shortcomings.

All software that rely on other software — including Operating Systems (of course), will also rely on its bugs. Thus we get a cascade of bugs from all involved bits of software, which makes even the thought of finding bug-free software completely absurd.
