MLM Marketing

Just what is MLM Marketing? The name MLM in itself implies marketing. MLM – Multi Level Marketing.
It therefore amazes me when I hear people who have joined a MLM company say they hate marketing and do not want to do it. I have also heard many people in MLM say they do not like sales. I have heard the line over and over that “the product sells itself “– really? I do not believe that!

MLM is merely a method of distribution. A way to market and sell a product. Sure it is word of mouth but just like any business there is marketing and a sales process needed.

First let’s look at the difference between marketing and sales. Basically marketing is what brings or attracts the potential customer or business partner to us. A sale is what brings them into the business or “closes” the deal.

In my business days prior to Network Marketing (or MLM) I have seen very good marketing make the sales process very easy. The reverse of this with not so good marketing makes the sales process much harder. The same applies in MLM.

The major difference is that when we join an MLM company there is no large marketing team and sales team to go to work for us – we are both! We have to do the marketing and the sales.

Traditionally when we join a MLM company we are (or were) told to make a list of our warm market. This still works today however it does not take long to run out of our warm market. It is at this point we need to find ways of marketing that are going to work for us. Meaning we simply need to find more people to join us in our business.
MLM Marketing – offline

MLM Marketing

Traditional marketing methods dating back to when Amway first started include:

Home meetings

Local meetings in a venue where we take guests

Advertising in newspapers, local publications

Posters where ever we can put them

Mail box drops

Editorial – or advertorial

Hanging at coffee shops and pouncing on people (bump ins) – and I know some people who do this really well

Buying leads

Stands at expos, conventions and such

MLM Marketing – online

MLM Marketing

Online methods are much newer to the MLM industry and certainly do not offer a silver bullet. What they do, is expand our reach beyond our local environment. These methods include:

Webinars (online meetings or seminars)

Advertising online in places like Google, Facebook

Email marketing

Blogging

Social Media – using Attraction Marketing

Using a lead generation system where much of the sales and marketing is done for you ( I will review these methods in subsequent posts)

MLM Marketing – is online or offline best?
I believe using the two together is the best approach. I have seen people build very successful MLM businesses offline but we are living in a world where online is growing every day. We cannot ignore the world of social media and online activities. Besides building a global business requires us to be online.

MLM Marketing

I do not believe that we can eliminate the need to talk to someone via telephone or Skype. We can drive leads to us via the internet but we need to build relationships with those leads and if they join us in our business we need to maintain relationships.

- this question has been one that I could not find an answer for. Over recent weeks I have been receiving a growing number of emails each day with the subject line New User Registration. The body of the email then says “New user registration on your site suejprice.com:” – then a name and an email address.

I was at first excited thinking these were people who had subscribed to my RSS feed.

Hey I thought, I had their email address and maybe I could see if they wanted to be added to my list. As I delved deeper I discovered that in fact these were spammers.

I am writing this blog post now hopefully to help anyone else that may have this happening or even worst be like one of my friends who had her blog “hijacked” (to use her words)/

I realized last week my RSS feed was not working as it should so I could not work out how I was getting these new “users” every day. I could not for the life of me work out where they were subscribing.

I did the obvious Google searches and found others asking the same question but there did not seem to be many answers. I checked out some of my trusted friends’ blogs for information but nothing was showing up.

I talked to a couple of other bloggers and still none the wiser! I went back to my trusted notes from when I set up my blog and could not find anything.

Totally frustrated at this point I decided to go through every setting on my site. Yes I should have done that weeks ago!

In the menu of my dashboard I found “Users” and clicking on all users gave me a list of all these people. It showed me there were two Administrators – me and my assistant and the rest were subscribers. At this point I was convinced they were all followers of my blog – but where were they signing up?

My curiosity was heightened because of my “hijacked friend” so I was on a mission to solve the mystery.

Late last week when I was talking to the person who taught me to set up my blog I asked her. The answer came from her technical guy and not what I hoped to hear. He said “ it was spammers using a scrape box!” Apparently they search on http://suejprice.com/wp-login.php?action=register and that is where they can register.

If you open that link now you will see you cannot sign in and you will get the following notice “User registration is currently not allowed.” That is because I have now fixed it.

This very short video shows you exactly how this happened so that you can check your settings.

That is how someone becomes a WordPress User!
Please leave me a comment below. I would love to hear if anyone else has had similar experiences. If you received value form this post and believe it may help another blogger please share it with your Twitter and FB friends by clicking on the share buttons.

The words “Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out.” (From the movie, what a girl wants) stood out for me as I read Ray Higdon’s post 7 Questions to see if you are on the Success Path this week.
Ray was saying that if you are looking for buy-in from your friends and family in most cases you are not going to find it on the success path. Wow isn’t that the truth?

For me it is very much like the words of Marianne Williamson in A Return to Love that I shared in a recent blog post Fall on Face I cannot read those words (and I do read them often) without feeling emotion.

Why? I ask myself. Why do words of playing small rather than shining our light trigger such emotion in me? Of course I know the answer…. it is because I have lived much of my life trying to fit in, playing small.

My life has been very much about reaching out and going for a goal, standing out, and then wanting to curl up and hide, wanting to “fit in”. I also see others doing the same.

I have been successful. I was a CPA with my own practice, a principal in a financial planning practice, CEO of a Seminar and Events Company plus more. But I know I have more to give and more to achieve and I know playing small in any way will not get me there. Especially in the Network Marketing Profession. I know I am far from alone.

I believe we are all here to shine and that most of us choose not to. We hide behind all sorts of reasons and excuses and choose mediocrity and our comfort zones.

The need to Stand out vs playing small is crucial in the Network Marketing Profession. If you play small you will not achieve success. The only way to the top is to stand out.

In my last post I quoted Eric Worre as saying “the catch to Network Marketing is we need to be able to deal with the loss of social esteem in the beginning. There are ignorant people out there that will think less of us for joining.” I suspect many people join a Network Marketing Company and get put off by the first couple of people who say no to them.

The sad thing about this is that people join an MLM business because they want a better life, they want success, they have dreams. Yet they want the approval of people who do not share either their dreams or that vision. The two cannot co-exist. We have to move past seeking approval.

This is why we constantly hear that we need to engage in personal development. It is critical for our success.

I have been involved in personal development for more than 30 years (now I am dating myself ). I was fortunate to be the CEO of a company that promoted some of the world’s top author/speakers, including Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad. I have witnessed many people transform their lives so I know it can be done. We can grow.

There is so much information available to help us grow and become more. We must do this on a regular basis, daily is best. If we do then we truly can “Stop trying to fit in and do what we were born to do – stand out”.

I just completed a brilliant webinar called The “5 Pillars” to 400,000 Distributors & $15,000,000 in Commissions – with Eric Worre. Jonathan Budd interviewed Eric Worre which was a real treat. I have heard Eric interview many other top leaders in the Network Marketing Profession but never heard him interviewed before.

Eric Worre runs Network Marketing Pro where he gives much value to the industry. If you are not on his email list you are missing some great information. The stats in the webinar title say it all for his success.

Eric shared his 5 Pillars of Belief (basically for success in Network Marketing). Here they are in my note form:

#Pillar 1 – Network Marketing isn’t perfect it’s just better.
Here Eric went through the alternatives and downside of each. He summarized them as;

Blue collar worker – not a path to wealth and hard physically.

White collar worker – he talked about the politics in the corporate world. If people choose to excel they then usually have someone trying to bring them down. Most people therefore “hide”.

Sales – hard work

Traditional Business owner – the business ends up owning them (and I can vouch for that one!)

Investor – you need capital and wisdom. There are risks.

Eric said something at this point that so resonated with me – it was one of those things I really heard and new it to be true for me. He said “the catch to Network Marketing is we need to be able to deal with the loss of social esteem in the beginning. That there are ignorant people out there that will think less of us for joining” He said this changes as we have success but some people cannot hang in there for that time. Wow that got me!

Jonathan Budd had some input here and said he believes the tide is turning and that in 5 years’ time it will be “un-cool’ not be in network marketing – to quote JB he said if you are not in MLM you will be seen as a “dork” – I love it!

#Pillar 2 – If you are going to be involved decide to be a Professional – Go Pro
Go Pro is Eric’s trademark statement. He finishes each of his shows with that.
He said that we are the smart ones who have unplugged from the matrix.
His advice was to learn the profession. Even if you can only work 5 – 10 hours a week on your business that is where you are building your future. The JOB 40 hours pays the bills.

#Pillar 3 – No one owes you Anything
Develop an independent mindset – I am in charge and I will build a business. He talked about taking responsibility for your success, learning, and attitude. He said the biggest benefit of network marketing is who we have to become to succeed.

#Pillar 4 – You must focus on mastering the profession’s skills
We often hear our “why” is everything but Eric said a “why” without skills will not get you there. Nor will big dreams get you there. You need the skills.

He said the skills are the simplest set compared to some professions and they offer the highest return when you master them.
He summarized them as

Find people to talk to

Inviting skills

Present to them in effective ways that can be duplicated

Helping people get started skills

Eric advises people that for their first year in network marketing they focus on developing the skills.

#Pillar 5 – What is of value to create takes time to create
People too often expect quick results in network marketing. Eric’s advice it that we must give it time as it is worth it. He tells people to aim for the following based on starting part time and working 10 hours a week.

Year 1 – to become profitable and competent
Year 3– replace current income
Year 5– become a 6 (or more) figure earner
Year 7 - be world class. He defined world class as someone who could sponsor someone every day if they choose. That they could land in a different country knowing no one and in a short time build a strong organization.

In summary he said it is worth it. When done right the profession offers financial freedom, lifestyle, the ability to help others and more. Treat it like the profession it is!

Sue’s summary
What do you think? I love the 5 Pillars. I am going for world class. Will you join me?

There are many articles and products on the topic of success in MLM. Is success in MLM in fact achievable for most of us or is it reserved for a privileged few who know some special tricks?

I was inspired to write this after reading a great post by Adrienne Smith, titled How I Stopped Failing in Network Marketing. Jump over there and have a read. You will see many of us commented on Adrienne’s use of the word “fail”.

If you Google the phrase “failure in MLM” you will see numbers between 95 – 97%. The question here of course is how many of these people actually attempted to succeed. And what is success anyway?

My history around the MLM industry is more “from the outside” until recent years.

When I met my husband 31 years ago he did Amway as a side business. He had a very busy Farm Machinery dealership so his time for his Amway business was very minimal. I concluded that people did MLM part time if they had time.

Several years later I was working as a CPA in a practice that had lots of Amway distributors as clients. I prepared their tax returns and saw most of them make losses in their business. However it was a good write off against their taxable income from their job resulting in tax refunds! So now my view of the MLM world was – it is part time and you lose money.

I then changed careers and we had a financial planning business. It was during that time that I met the first few people who made serious money in MLM. Again they were in Amway (not sure if there were any other companies back then) and they were making six figure incomes, which in the eighties was considerable.

So now my view of the MLM world was – it is part time and MOST PEOPLE lose money – and just a few make big money.

Over the following decade we joined a few MLM companies as customers with the intention we might do the business one day if we had time. I guess we were included in those 95-97% failure stats.

My next serious encounter with the MLM industry was during my time as the CEO for the company that promoted Robert Kiyosaki, the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, in Australia and New Zealand. Robert also wrote a book for the Network Marketing Industry and as a result had a strong following in the industry. His events in Australia attracted lots of networkers.

It was during this time that I met many serious income earners and my first seven figure earners. My view of the MLM world was changing. I was prospected by many people but felt it was a compromise of my position to join any one company. And I was on the road touring and working so many hours I did not feel I had time to devote to another business. I found many of the people that were prospecting me very pushy. In fact my personal assistant would run and hide when some of them came into our office.

My view of the MLM world became– it is part time , MOST PEOPLE lose money – and just a few make big money and they are pushy.

During my time in this role I started taking some high quality supplements which are sold by the MLM model. I honestly do not know how I would have got through the time without those supplements given the late nights, early mornings and constant travel we did. This was later to become my first real attempt at Network Marketing (MLM).

My upline could not have been more supportive for me and her team. I had some success but in short bursts. I was not consistent. In reflection I had brought with me the belief system the MLM world is part time , MOST PEOPLE lose money – and just a few make big money and they are pushy. So it was not the best mindset to start with.

In this company there were plenty of people making good money so I started to believe it was possible.

It was my first attempt at MLM and I made some classic mistakes. I think one of the greatest mistakes I made, and see others make, is expecting to be able to succeed without learning the skills. I used to look at successful people in MLM and assume they just knew what they were doing from day one. I also assumed that the skills I had from my previous careers would get me through. I did not understand this is a profession and like any profession needs to be learned.

One person I had grown to admire was Terry Petrovick. I heard him interviewed and found out he had built his business online. That seemed like a great idea so I decided to venture into the world of the internet. I came online just over two years ago and got lost in bright shiny objects for far too long.

I was constantly learning and watching what other people were doing online. Two of the people I came to admire most in the industry are Terry Petrovick and Ray Higdon. I admire them because they are successful and they have a mix of online and offline skills.

If you go over to Adrienne’s post you will see she mentions Terry and if you watch the video you will get the full story. It is worth it!

If you scroll down on Adrienne’s post through the comments you will see one by Terry Petrovick. You will see he also did not start with instant success Terry’s blog is TerryPetorvick.com . If you are serious about MLM I recommend you follow him.

The other person I mention is Ray Higdon. rayhigdon.com another blog anyone in Network Marketing should follow.

I used to know bits of Ray’s story and actually told people he was an instant success and had come into his current MLM, being the first he had tried and within 7 months had a $40,000 month. Oops then I heard Ray say he had been in eleven companies before Numis!

So we all start somewhere and we all have to learn. It depends if we are prepared to persevere.

Ray Higdon recruited Terry Petrovick into Numis. I watched these two powerhouses with great respect. So it was a no brainer for me to contact Terry when I saw their company was coming to Australia. It commenced pre-launch on the 2nd April.

What I had observed from afar did not disappoint me. Their systems and support are amazing. If you live in the USA, Canada, UK or Australia and want to join a powerful team then please contact me or you can join here.

I have been to my niece’s wedding on the other side of Australia and have not written a post for a while. Today I vowed I would rectify this. As I pondered my topic the thought “falling on my face” came to me. Why would I choose that topic? Simply because I did just that!! Not figuratively but literally. That’s right dressed up and right after the wedding I fell head first.

I made a good job of it with cuts and bruises but fortunately no broken bones. I was lucky enough to be in a place where there were paramedics who appeared almost instantly.

Given that since a young age I have been involved in personal development and I believe in taking responsibility for my actions - I of course have to analyze why this happened. Why did I create this experience? What does it mean? (it can do your head in really).

Online dictionaries describe falling on your face as “a blunder, error of judgement, fail miserably, fail completely, to be unsuccessful at a given task”.

I have many times in my life felt like I have fallen on my face but never have I literally done it before.

This is me with my hubby at the wedding. Now see those shoes I can blame them if I play the blame game.

I am not going to put a photo of how I look now here but believe me it is not good!

I am very blessed to have not broken anything and the bruises are fading. Given I do a lot of video marketing my activities have been curbed this last week.

Now that I have explained my “why” for this post let’s talk about the figurative meaning of “falling on your face” or “falling flat on your face”.

The definitions above basically talk about failing or not doing well. If we feel like we fall on our face we feel like we have failed in some way (or some big way) and we feel embarrassed. We are mostly afraid of falling on our faces.

Clearly in the last week I have pondered the topic considerably. I have asked myself when in the past have I fallen on my face and did I dust myself off or did I become more cautious.

I believe most people do not really go for their goals or dreams because they are afraid they will fall on their face. These words fromNelson Mandella’s inaugural speech written by Marianne Williamson sums it up for me.

“…Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most
frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Marianne Williamson

As my wounds heal I am having the thought that this is very symbolic and a message that falling on my face is not the end of the world. I can pick myself up, dust myself off and forge ahead again.

Have you ever fallen on your face either literally or figuratively? How did you move forward? Please leave me your comments below.

The Power of Video just got a whole lot better for WowWe Affiliates with the announcement of video auto responders, WowWe TV and more.

WowWe held it’s inaugural Pacesetter event in late January where there were announcements and the company founders shared their vision.

Not only is WowWe a company with amazing products and ethics and an impressive list of clients but it is now rewarding its Affiliates with an amazing $500 fast start bonus. If you want to be part of a team that truly rewards its affiliates and wants you to be successful as quickly as possible then you have to seriously consider joining WowWe.

Basically if you bring in 9 Premium Affiliates in your first 45 days of joining the company as an affiliate they will pay you a $500 bonus. This is on top of the regular affiliate income you earn for sign ups.

What is Australia Day?

What is Australia day is a question I have been asked by several of my International friends. One of the wonderful things about the internet and social media is that many of us have expanded our friendships around the globe. A growing number of us are building global businesses and we are learning about our various cultural differences.

The 26th January is Australia Day and is a national holiday for Australians. It is the day we celebrate what is great about Australia and being Australian. It is only since 1994 that we have celebrated Australia day as a National Holiday on the actual day.

Australia Day is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet of 11 convict ships from Great Britain, and the raising of the Union Jack at Sydney Cove by its commander Captain Arthur Phillip, in 1788/

How do we celebrate?
Today the arrival of the convict ships would be the last thing most Australians think about on the 26th January each year. Now outdoor concerts, community barbecues (or barbies as we call them), sports competitions, festivals and fireworks are some of the many events presented to communities across Australia.

On Australia Day, many of our nation’s population of 21 million attend either an organized community event, or get together with family and friends with the intention of celebrating our national day. Many more spend the public holiday relaxing with family and friends.

At its core, Australia Day is a day driven by communities, and the celebrations held in each town, suburb or cities are the foundation of its ongoing success.

Citizenship Ceremonies
Citizenship ceremonies are also commonly held and Australia Day is now the largest occasion for the acquisition of citizenship. On 26 January 2011, more than 300 Citizenship Ceremonies took place and 13,000 people from 143 countries took Australian Citizenship.

An Australian Citizenship Affirmation is a statement that gives all Australians, not only our newest citizens, the opportunity to affirm their loyalty and commitment to Australia and its people.

Citizenship ceremonies are generally conducted by local government councils and can be held on Australia Day as part of the program of events.

Recognition
Each year our nation celebrates the achievement and contribution of eminent Australians through the Australian of the Year Awards by profiling leading citizens who are role models for us all. The actor Geoffrey Rush was named Australian of the Year 2012. Rush was honored for his 40 year career and commitment to Australia’s arts industry.

There are other awards given and a substantial number of people honored for their contribution in various ways.

What did I do for Australia Day 2012?
I live in a town called Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. We had planned to meet friends at a park on the banks of the river quite close to our house. These plans were cancelled when the rain set in. Here is a very short video of the location taken a couple of days later. Unfortunately what would normally be a vibrant packed place was like a ghost town on Australia Day.

Mid-afternoon it did stop raining for a while and we went over to the beach and this is what was happening.

Around Australia

Australia is such a large country and our weather this 26th January varied across the nation. A couple of examples are;

My home town on the other side of the country had a scorching day of 40 degrees Celsius (that is 104).

Melbourne had a warm sunny day as many people flocked to the Australian Open (tennis grand slam).

Sydney also had rain but people still flocked to the harbor.

Tell me about your National Holidays
I know the US celebrates 4th July for Independence Day but I know very little about other countries National Holiday. Please leave your comments below. If you are an Aussie tell me what you did this year and if you are not how do you celebrate your National Day?

I think it is perfect for anyone starting out online, building a Network Marketing business or doing Affiliate Marketing.

The system eliminates the need to maintain your blog, learn SEO and all the other things that go with having your own independent blog.

For some time now I have been really clear I do not want people in my MLM down line to lose as much time and focus as I did with a huge learning when first coming online. Maintaining a WordPress blog takes consistent time and effort.

However until now I was unsure as to which way to lead people. I want to work online and I want my team to do the same but I want us all to be efficient. I was looking for a solution that could eliminate or reduce the lengthy learning curve for people. I have found what I was looking for with Empower Network.

When I first came online two years ago I had been told I needed a blog as my “home”. At the time I was pretty much technophobic. To give you an idea, when someone asked me what browser I was using I did not know what a browser was!!! I had been in management positions most of my life and had someone to do my online work. So it was a daunting process for me. I had never heard of plugins, widgets, SEO and so the list went on.

I found an online webinar course on WordPress taught by fellow Aussie Jodie Thompson along with her US partner Kimberly Castleberry. It ran for 6 weeks and in that time I built my blog. The fact I did it still amazes many people who know me (including myself).

Then I repeated the course – a few times. It took me the best part of a year to really know what I was doing. During that time I made very little money and lost sight of the fact I had come online to build my Network Marketing Business Now I realize my story is all too common for many of us finding the online world.

This is why finding Empower Network feels like a total blessing for me. If I can help others find their feet online relatively quickly I am all for it. Not only does the system simplify the blogging process it also offers a very lucrative income stream if you refer others to the system. You really can get paid for blogging and reduce the amount of time it normally takes for bloggers to make an income.

I see this can be a great supplementary income for people online. For anyone wanting to quit their JOB this might be your answer in speeding up the process. This can also be an additional income source for Network Marketers as they build their residual income.

Can you see from my experience that this system can provide a simple alternative? Check out more about the Empower Network here.

I must confess I have not totally made it to the end of the course but I am far enough through to be able to recommend it. In fact highly recommend it.

Part of the reason I have not finished the course is the sheer volume of content. The course consists of 5 modules and some bonuses. The modules all consist of training videos, notes, copies of the slides, mp3 and a transcript. In some modules there are 6 or 7 training videos. It is not just a matter of watching the videos as you need to implement the recommendations and I am still working my way through that. For $97 it is amazing value.

The goal of the course is to get us more traffic. It focuses on YouTube and basically a 3 step process to follow…

Video Optimization

Video Value

Video Aftermath

The description says it is not a course on how to make videos but more a whole strategy on video marketing. Having said that there is a whole module on “creating killer videos” and I must confess I have been doing a lot of things wrong. I will soon be making you some “killer videos”

There is also excellent information and a format to follow in posting your videos to YouTube. I learned lots of little distinctions about just this process. One of them was I had been told to just put my URL in as the description with only a few words following it. James Wedmore, who teaches the course, says to have a lengthy description and not include your URL in all of your descriptions - and not to lead with it. He teaches other ways to connect to your website like having a Call to Action Overlay. You will be seeing them from me soon.

If you are interested there is a video about the course on the link below. I am an affiliate as I think the course is awesome value. Here is the link.

I truly believe video is the way of the future so I am learning what I can about it.
