Ken Burns is hosting a night at the Paramount in Seattle tommorrow to preview his new WWII documentary with apparently most (if not all) previously unseen footage. Being a WWII-o-phile, i'm dying to go.

Now I just need to figure out a way for the wife to go along with it... she's not so much with the WWII. "Hey hun, how about we get a babysitter and see a movie? There is one that looks good. What's that you say? Is it funny? Ummm.. Yea. I think ...Queen Latifah is in it."

As a pretty avid user of Y! services, i was excited to see them rollout Yahoo! Go for Windows Mobile 5 (Smartphone no less). However...

1. The .exe installer horked. I had to use the .CAB install manually. No biggie
2. The app hijacked my current work IMAP inbox. I could no longer read my work mail. I could see my work messages but could not open any. balls.
3. The Yahoo! Mail sub-app was in a continual state of "Synchronizing". This lasted for days. This is a bummer as was one of the main reasons I wanted to use the app.
4. The majority of the sub-apps were links to the various WAP services which I already have bookmarked. whatever.
5. I uninstalled the thing and now get this periodic message that it can't find "YUpdater.exe".

I guess it still wants to synchronize. It's determined, I'll give it that :)

really, "significantly"? I don't know this guy and doesn't he want to know what I do first? A tip, don' t sound like a time share salesman and you might get a better hit rate on your coldcalls.

This guy undoubtedly found me on LinkedIn which brings me to my real point. LinkedIn's "network update" feature is fascinating. It periodically lists your contacts new connections and can be really insightful. If you follow it you can cull some nice nuggets of info. I've been able to figure out a new "stealth" startup before it was announced, detected a few friends who were looking to switch jobs, as well as what VC firms one company was talking to. Pretty cheeky.

Firefox saves me yet again

The other day I needed to see a WML deck desperately. I could not view a site in my phones browser for some reason (and it wasn't even a Motorola I was using ;-) and thought to myself, "hmm, I bet some ingenious guy has created a WML plugin for Firefox. A quick search turned up the fact that someone named Matthew Wilson has created one" Thanks Matt.

I've also noticed Firefox's "Live" bookmarks. Why they didnt just call this RSS Bookmarks I don't know. Would have been noticed alot quicker. Anyway, I've been slowly using the My Yahoo! as my RSS news reader and have felt like I've been walking towards a cliff. My Yahoo Homepage is getting ginormous and I keep wondering what I'm gonna do when I want/need to take my feeds with me to some other site/newsreader. My Yahoo has conspicuously left out any export feature. Enter Firefox. I simply start adding all my RSS feeds as Firefox "Live" Bookmarks and voila, I have a nice handy dandy folder containing all my rss links. sweetness

Advanced Technology Office LLC recently unveiled their iSee 360i at MacWorld, a video recorder that uses Apple’s iPod for storage. Designed to work with most fourth or fifth-generation iPods, the iSee 360i costs $249 and supposed to ship in Q1'06. Ok, so at 250 bucks, maybe "sustainable" is a stretch, but a novel idea nonetheless. Lord knows what the world is gonna do with all these iPods when the craze ends.

T-Mobile Adding Windows 5.0 Device

In my newly found appreciation of Windows Mobile 5.0 (See previous post about Cingular's HTC Wizard), T-Mobile has a sign-up page for two new Windows Mobile 5 devices. Both look like modified versions of the Cingular HTC OEM devices. As a T-Mobile customer who is on the verge of defecting due to their shitty selection of handsets, this may make me stay. Hopefully they don't do something ridiculous like cripple WiFi to only support Tmobile's own HotSpot(tm). I've seen stupider things done. .
