Yes, we all know what a heartache is but do you know that there are different kinds of heartaches and that not all palpitations are due to a heart condition? The changes in normal rhythm of heartbeats may be caused by anything from strong emotions to a reaction to medication. Here are few examples of the most common types of heartaches:

Skipping – it is an out-of-sync or stronger than average heartbeat. The common causes for this condition are anxiety, excess alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine, and reaction to medications.
Pounding- it is the sensation of an increase in heart rate. Exercise, stress, and fever usually cause heart pounding. However, if the condition lasts for minutes or hours and occurs frequently, it may be a sign of an underlying heart condition.
Fluttering- it is a racing heart rate and/ or extra beats with accompanying symptoms of dizziness, nausea or light-headedness. This condition may be due to stress, fever, and dehydration.

It is still best to see and consult a doctor if you are experiencing a heartache that is beyond the norm.

Lately, I have been reading a health pamphlet given to me by my doctor friend. I really appreciate the stuffs written inside because it is helpful and enlightening. One of my favorite was the entry on “4 tips for instant energy”. It was indeed useful to me because I have been so energy deficient lately. Too tired to do even the simplest of all things and I don’t want to continue living like this anymore because it is wasting so much of my supposedly productive years. So if you are also having a similar problem, then read below and always remember the LAMB!!!

LOUD- Get loud as you speak or count from one to ten.
ACTIVITY- Stand up, stretch, cheer, or stomp your feet.
MUSIC- Play some lively music and sing along, or better yet dance or sway to the beat.
Beverage- Prepare yourself high-energy drinks. Mix a half teaspoon of vitamin C crystals in a glass filled with half fruit juice, half water.

Hello bloggers, i'd like to share some tips i picked up from an article i read. it is about time saving tips to shorten your workday! don't know if you guys have already mastered your own work routine or time but for people who definitely need to learn to budget their time (like me) these 5 tips may just come in handy.

5 TIME SAVING TIPS TO SHORTEN YOUR WORKDAY:

1. Stick yourself with deadlines- It is said that you will be more productive if you assign each task a specific due time and striclty adhere to it.
2. Do the "not so fun" stuff first- deal with your most dreaded deeds right off the bat. Putting them on hold only means they’ll weigh on your mind and keep you from focusing fully on other things.
3. Avoid piling up papers - Once a letter or memo lands on your table , do something with it. If it’s a short and quick task, finish it ASAP. If it’s a bigger load, dot the first three steps to start it rolling.
4. Designate E-mail time- Allocate 10-20 minutes each day to check your electronic and voice-mail messages (work related only). In the meantime, turn off your E-mail or messages alarms so you won’t be tempted to check it every time it rings.
5. Try to end your day earlier- It doesn't mean you can cut work time. Try to end your work for that day at 4:30 and use those remaining 30 minutes to reflect and plan for tomorrow's work.

Nuffnang-Goldilocks Party

August 7, 2009- The ultimate ‘IT” bookstore, Fully Booked Bonifacio, turned into a mega “it” party zone last Friday, August 7. The reason: the much awaited Nuffnang-Goldilocks awarding ceremony. Rumor has it that guests began flocking the Fully Booked top shelf as early as 3:30pm and after an hour or so, the venue was jammed pack with bloggers and their friends.
It was truly a hit especially that sexy boy Dingdong Dantes graced the event with his presence. Everyone was so excited to see him that the moment he stepped out of the elevator, camera flashes began to light up.
Here is a short recap of how the event went on based from my star-strucked memory.
When we came out of the elevator at top shelf, half of the guests were already there. There was an instant photo stall with Goldilocks background at the very left corner. Right beside the elevator entrance was a Nuffnang backdrop for bloggers to take their souvenir pictures. My friends and I gave it a shot, the official photographers gamely took our photos (we felt like celebrities  ). After registration, we got our freebies (yippee) and as we were about to take our seats, we were informed to claim our free goldilocks cake (there was a contest for the best cake décor)!

The event started promptly with Juddha Paolo as the male host (my friend was so Kilig seeing him). After a few introductions and game, the moment everyone was waiting for has arrived. Hunky Goldilocks endorser MR. Dingdong Dantes enters and stormed the place with his ever cute smile. People went hysterical as everyone wanted to take photo with the pretty boy Dingdong Dantes. Yup, me and my friend had to elbow our way into the crowd.

While, we were busy having our pictures taken, some hungry bloggers headed toward the buffet table instead. Dinner official commenced. Everyone was in a party mode with the music and lightings. After dinner, the second much awaited segment of the night rolled in, the awarding of the winners. There were 4 winners who took home Goldilocks GC, another four who bagged the mini laptops, and 1 ultimate sole survivor, heheha, grand winner who got the grand Asus laptop.
We had a blast. My friend was so hyped the entire night that she can’t stop raving about the event. She was so happy that she got to see Juddha Paolo and Dingdong Dantes in flesh. Well, for me I really had a great time even thought I didn’t win (sniff, sniff). I just hope there will be a part two (calling calling Goldilocks and Nuffnang, from your loyal fans) because we will surely be there in a drop of a hat!

A good friend of mine, in hopes of getting my life back on track, lend me the book The Rules of Life by Richard Templer. Richard Templer is an internationally acclaimed writer who has produced several best selling works like his other book The Rules of Work.

My friend said that the book has help changed his outlook in life and it has really made his life simpler and happier. Wishing to have the same transformation, i quickly browse through it (literally). The book is easy to read because the "rules" are written in a simple format with short paragraphs delving into the logic behind each rules. The choice of words are plain and common, i guess the author really wanted to deliver the message point blank by hitting the nail on the head. This is good because complexity tends to cloud one's mind which completely defies the purpose of reading a book about simplifying life. According to Richard Templer, the "rules of life" is divided according to 5 domain areas. 1) You 2) Your partner 3) Your Family 4) Social circle 5) World.

Rule of Life is light to the mind but definitely potent to one's heart. What struck me the most about this book is that the rules are actually good old fashion common sense. They are common sense advices yet Richard Templer manages to infuse fresh insight and deeper perspective on how it works. I guess, sometimes we need people to remind us of the simple things in life that actually works.

My Weight Problem Solution

“Argh…” was my expression last night when I stepped on my bathroom scale. Apparently, I didn’t like what I saw: XXX lbs! That means I have, once again, failed in my mission to shed off some pounds. It’s really sad because not only have I fallen short of my goal but I have also thrown away exorbitant amount of monies enrolling in gym classes. I wonder if there is ever a solution to this.

Birthdays have never been a big thing in my family. It was truly a very special gift because all my friends, despite being broke, chipped in just to get me that cake. They specifically chose a Goldilocks cake because they wanted to give me a personal message (Goldilocks was a pioneer for personal message on cakes during the early days).

Farewell Michael Jackson

Hello fellow bloggers, this is a sad sad news indeed.
The Music and Entertainment industry is grieving today over the sudden death of the famous and iconic singer Micheal Jackson. It is such a tragic ending for the 50 year old pop sensation who was schedule to have a grand and final concert showdown this coming July. Details of his demise is sparse as of this moment.
Another sad news is the death of former Chalie's Angel Farrah Fawcett. Like Jackson, Ms. Fawcett is a well-known and respected actress in Hollywood. She has won many accolades and has been a voice for social justice these past few years. She died of Anal Cancer. Friends and Family are thankful for the support and love of the people around her.

Painful feeling after an OJ??

Have you ever had an OJ? Don’t be shy now… Well, if you are just like most people around the world, then your answer is probably a yes. Surveys have shown that OJ is one of the most favorite fluid juices people would like to swallow and that gazillion ounces of OJs are consumed each day.

There is no doubt that OJ has become a worldwide phenomenon. Regardless of culture, race, age, gender, and socio-economic status, people in general take great pleasure in having an OJ. Some may like it with ice and some may not. Some prefer to have it early in the morning while others like it better at noon. But whatever style and time it is served, people just can’t seem to get enough of it. Come on now, seriously, what guy doesn’t want an OJ? And, from what I heard, even girls enjoy OJs.

But do you know there are some things that don’t go well with OJs, and one of which is teeth! Yes, when having an OJ, be very sure to check on your teeth because if there is one thing that maybe painful after having an OJ, it’s probably your teeth.

If you, like me, have sensitive teeth then you might have experienced or noticed a painful feeling when brushing your teeth after having an Orange Juice. So why is this so? What causes the painful feeling?

According to a medical pamphlet that I read, our teeth have microscopic tubes leading from the nerves inside to the surface. Each time we brush our teeth, the tubes are clogged so we don’t feel so sensitive. However, the acid in the Orange Juice does the opposite. Hence, it is advisable to refrain from brushing right after consuming Orange Juice or other foods or drinks high in acid.

Chocolate karnival experience

While I haven’t been blessed enough to get invites to the actual chocolate karnival experience by Krispy Kreme, I was lucky anyway to receive an email offering complimentary chocolate glazed donuts and original coffee by Krispy Kreme.

I have been glazed, so it was said in the email. The email entitles the bearer to a free sample of their latest chocolate glazed donuts. The instruction says just head on the any Krispy kreme branch listed and present a valid ID and the email itself to the counter.

Since I was going to Trinoma mall today anyway, I figured I might as well claim it. So there was I a while ago, munching on Krispy Kreme’s latest chocolate glazed donuts. Two ladies sitting beside my table were also on complimentary samples.

My Shopaholic Confession

Hi my name is Annabel and I’m a Shopaholic!

No, I wasn’t born this way. In fact, no one from my family tree possesses a shopaholic gene so it can’t be a hereditary thing. I guess it was more of a “learned response”. When you are living in a place where fashion is king, you just can’t fight it. You have to adapt to it, almost like a survival instinct.

The year was 2002. Barely 4 months fresh out from college, I found my 1^st job. Well, it wasn’t exactly my dream job but hey, how can I complain when I was earning my own money… my own crispy Hong Kong money. Oh yes, you could definitely say I was a lucky girl back then. Imagine being 21, earning your own keeps, and living in a country where shopping is said to be a national past time. But who would have known, it was also the perfect recipe that would quickly turn me into a shopaholic.

Living in the Hong Kong, where one is sure to have a daily dose of Armani clad investment bankers, cute boy-candy in their Calvins, girls strutting their Jimmy Choo with their dearest Gucci bags, it is so hard not to get caught with the fashion label bug because donning a designer piece is like the secret handshake for them. I myself was unable to fight the bug that soon enough I was also completely under the influence of “LABELS”—the six letter darnest word ever created.

I remember the first time my colleagues and I went shopping, I spend half of my paycheck just on one shop. The feeling of being able to purchase something so beautiful from my own money overcame me that I bought whatever pleased my eyes. But everything inside the shop was so beautiful. In a span of four months, I almost bought half of what was inside the shop. Worst, I was still not satisfied. Soon, I began to expand my shopping territory. During lunch break I would quickly go down our building to check the latest displays around the neighborhood. I would patiently walk from window to window and decide which one I will buy later after work. Whenever there was a sale, I would drag my colleagues to join me in a shopping frenzy (or was it the other way around? It really doesn’t matter). And when my credit card application was finally approved, I took my shopping experience to a new level. The internet became my next best friend. If I wasn’t outside the house checking on the latest trends, I was inside the house surfing the net for the hottest items. I became a certified shopaholic.

That was how things were for a while. My credit card was almost maxed out and my savings was close to nil. At home I have a chunk load of stuffs overflowing from my tiny closet. It was then that I realized how my lifestyle was unhealthy for me and decided to take some action. It definitely took a lot of will power to control my impulses but I learned a lot from that experience.

Now that I am older (ahem), wiser (ahem ahem), and has more responsibility (this one is definitely true), I am still battling with my shopaholic tendencies. But I can say that I am a more judicious shopper now.

Its 4:35 Pm Manila time now and im still sitting in front of my monitor (not really mine, its the library CPU). I was here since this morning. I am trying to search for something... something i need so badly... yeah really bad that i could kill (hehe). Wanna know what i am looking for? if only this keyword is on the top 5 hottest keywords search list of Google trend right now. how i wish but i bet it will be in the next five years. but enough of that because the fact is it ain't. i will just have to live with it.

So do you wanna know what i am looking for? i bet you are dying to know :). i am looking for "APA style, format, or guide for thesis writing". I have already search all over the net (not entirely true :P) and i can't find a free APA thesis template! :( so far, there are a few cites giving away APA tips on thesis writing but then it is not clear and the information is not really helpful to me. So, if there is a kind soul out there willing to help this damsel in distress (hehe) ill be forever grateful.

My recent curiosity on HPV and cervical-cancer vaccine has caused me to do some research and readings (ahem…ahem… I said ‘just some’). I found out that GlaxoSmithKline has reduced the price of their cervical-cancer vaccine. This is definitely good news to all women. The article I read says:

In an effort to meet the Filipinas need for more affordable health care, GSK has slashed their cervical cancer vaccine, Ceravix, by 71%. The move highlights GSK’s dedication to cervical-cancer prevention and its continued advocacy to give Filipinos quality medicines and vaccines they need at prices they can afford, GSK said. This initiative is GSK’s response to the Filipinos’ need for more affordable health care.

According to GSK president and managing director Rich Gain, The Philippines is the first country where GSK Cervarix is made affordable to all. They (GSK) hope that this will help save more lives and protect women against cervical cancer.

Cervarix, as approved by the Bureau of Food and Drugs, is a vaccine to protect against the two most common cancer-causing types of human pappilomavirus (HPV)-16 and 18. It has also shown efficacy against persistent infection caused by 12 other cancer-causing HPV types. So far, clinical data demonstrated that Cervatix provides this protection.

HPV = CERVICAL CANCER = POSSIBLE DEATH

HPV! I have been seeing this three letters a lot lately. At first I thought it was a new virus that has replaced the menace also known as the HIV virus. Then I learned from extensive research (ahem ahem) that HPV or Human Papilloma Virus is the virus that causes cervical cancer. Acquiring this virus is no laughable matter as cervical cancer is reported to claim as many as 4300 lives each year here in the Philippines alone. Cervical cancer produces the second biggest number of deaths from any cancer type that affects women. It is pretty scary for a thought but there is good news for us women. In light of the recent developments, the medical community came out with a vaccine that aims to prevent cervical cancer.

I think the vaccine officially came out mid last year but skeptics are quick to point out the adverse effects and also question the potency of the said vaccines. I also heard from fox news that some schools in the U.S. were actually mandating high school girls to receive the shots. This action was of course met with a lot of opposition from the children’s parents and even community elders. Here in the Philippines, women are starting to pick up with the trend although the vaccine is not yet as well known as in the U.S. I have seen advertisements already and also advocacy groups. I’m thinking about getting the vaccine too so I did a little research. I wanted to know how much the entire package cost. Unfortunately this information is never to be found. For some reason, vaccination rates are never stated in any website or ads. I can only guess that it might be a little expensive for the regular gal. So I wonder “how will a regular Filipina like me afford the vaccine.”

WTF! i wanted to write something today but after a long contemplation.... nothing came...... my head is so below normal functioning and it has been like this for like ... 4years now i think. :( better see a doctor quick before the worms consume the other functioning part of my brain. argrhh.... when will i get my wish- a new brain! :)

East meets Middle East

This photo was taken last year during my delicious trinoma food tour. The event was successful as all of us went home with a full stomach and appetizing stories to tell. Amongst the food presentation feature, this one is my favorite because it looked so scrumptious that I wanted to sink in my teeth immediately. It is a meat dish with pita wrapper, hummus, and side salad. It’s from Hussein.

It was my first Middle Eastern food experience which makes it all the more interesting for me. At first I was having second thoughts trying for fear of strong aftertaste (i sometimes hate the feeling of aftertaste when you burp). But my group mates were quick to convince me to give it a shot, telling me to slice the meat into small pieces before wrapping the pita around it. Then, they told me to dip it in the hummus to complete the wonderful experience. They were so right to push me into trying it because it tastes good. I loved it. It was one of the best foods I tried on that day and it is also one of the most interesting meals I’ve ever had.

Thesis Days are Back!!!

After a long vacation from vacationing, its time to get down to business again. That means, i have to once again face something that i have been procrastinating or trying to avoid...... (drum roll) YES! my very good friend Thesis! Yes! i haven't finsih it yet (for th nth time). Yes, of course, im working on it.
Today, i just met with my advisor, well we had a chat about it. While the draft i shown her is not perfect and was butchered by her red pen (oops, i emailed it so its the computer red text), she said it is workable and promishing. I hope she is right.
right now, im kind of sleepy but since it is not allowed to sleep inside the library ill just keep on blogging to keep my mind active anyways.
So, this will definitely be a challenge to me because year 2009 i'd like to accomplish alooooot of things. this time i won't give up.

Recession hits Porn industry

I was reading the newspaper this morning and was amused over the article that says the US porn industry is also seeking a Bailout from Washington. The paper reports that porn mogul Larry Flynt, of Hustler magazine, and Joe Francis, of "Girls gone wild" videos are seeking a $5 BILLION bailout from the congress. Both are soliciting for the same kind of assistance Washington gave to the Auto manufacturers. According to Joe Francis, adult DVD sales and rentals figures showed a 22 percent decrease in 2008.

WOW $5 Billion to help beef up the porn industry??!!?? i don't know but that kind of sound crazy to me. I guess if there is any good recession has made, it's probably this :)
