Silk Flower Necklace

Here’s another pretty piece inspired by Beverly at Flamingo Toes, who was inspired by Anthropology. Bev truly has a gift for making fun stuff that she sees.

Again, I used silk, because it’s what I love, and what I have on hand. Beads are inserted, then the fabric knotted between each bead. Little silk circles are sewn on to make a flower, and the necklace is ready to tie.

Oil-cloth Tote

Dr. Sheila likes to carry a tote made of oilcloth. I agreed to make one for her, though I had never sewn oilcloth. It behaves differently from ordinary fabric. For instance, if you use pins, holes will be left in the material. So holding pieces together to be sewn is a little tricky.

The bag turned out nicely, and I really like the bright orange patterns. I might have to make one for myself.

silk flower bracelet

This is my version of a bracelet inspired by Flamingo Toes, who borrowed the idea from Anthropology. I used ivory silk and very lightweight silk for the peachy flower.

Infinity Scarf in Blues and Greens

Renee always looks fashionable, even on casual Fridays. I asked her to take a break from work to model my infinity scarf.

It’s a circular scarf that can be worn long, or doubled as Renee is wearing it. Instructions to make it are free online @ A Cottage Home. I used light-weight cotton, so it drapes nicely, and it’s comfortable as well as fashionable.

Fashions inspired by Tahra

I love to sew for Tahra. First, because everything looks great on her. And second, because it sets me free from my usual boundaries: comfortable, not-so-trendy, and generally un-sexy.

This vest was her idea. I used 2 pretty scarves to make a flowing vest. She added buttons at the sides. (Why didn’t I think of that?)

I envisioned the one-size-fits-most swimsuit cover-up. One of the longer edges can be adjusted with a drawcord. The cover-up can be worn at the waist, or as a wrap dress.

Almost anyone can wear it, but probably not quite like Tahra does!

Heavy-Duty Book Bag

My pal Peggy is a book seller’s dream. I don’t know how many book clubs she belongs to, but it takes a serious bag to carry her books around.

I decided to make a super sturdy, reinforced bag with “bones” for Peggy to wag those books around. I bonded a striped cotton to canvas, but with nylon straps sandwiched inside.

I also lined the bag with a plain cotton lining. It wasn’t easy, but I resisted the temptation to put in zippered pockets and all the bells and whistles that I love to incorporate.

It’s a simple, heavy-duty bag designed to handle all the books that Peggy can throw at it!

Mother-Daughter Dresses

Here are the beautiful Yvonne and Keira in coordinating dresses. I’ve heard that little girls love to dress like their mommies, so I made these for Yvonne’s birthday.

Too late I found out that Keira’s favorite color is pink. Still, she looks pretty happy in her lilac sundress.
