Sunbeam Shows presents Centrefold Magazine – A retrospective selection from 2003-2011

Sunbeam Studios proudly presents the first in a series of intimate gallery shows at the studios in North Kensington. On the 1st of September 2011, Sunbeam launched a retrospective selection of Centrefold Magazine going back to the inception of the magazine in 2003 as well as including prints from the newest, yet unreleased, edition.

The inaugural installation in Sunbeam’s new show space, curated by Petek Sketcher and Andrew G Hobbs.KT Auleta, Mario Godlewski, Hans Feurer, Peter Hill, Andrew G. Hobbs, Iain McKell, Albert G. Richards, Clare Shilland, Adam Whitehead, Yelena Yemchuk.

The private view went without a hitch last week! Despite the torrential downpours, we had a great turnout and now we have some fantastic work on our walls. Check out the video below of every Centrefold edition – on the night we projected a giant version over our cove in studio one. Thanks to everyone that came, look out for the next Sunbeam Show!

Having Elle Macpherson back to Sunbeam along with BINTM to put us through our paces was great fun.
They may be promising the feistiest series yet but even 60 fledgling models, 4 judges and a crew of over 30 was no match for our studios!
Because all our studios interconnect the BINTM crew were able to utilise all of the spaces throughout their filming here while keeping judges, crew and models separate and together at all the right times.

We were exhausted just watching them but it was a very successful filming process and we were glad it went so smoothly.
BINTM made us our own special trailer, check it out!

Bird’s Eye Conference

Delegates arrived in to Talbot Hall for some much needed coffee before moving in to Main Hall for a morning presentation, but as the delegates were about to find out this was no ordinary conference. The afternoon session in Rootes Hall made fantastic use of the space, the Bird’s Eye staff were set a ‘Ready Steady Cook’ style challenge under the watchful eye of celebrity chef John Torode. Whilst judging the delegate’s efforts Chef Torode commented that one of the dishes was the best soup he’d ever tasted, not bad for an afternoon’s work!

With 28 people in shot you need a studio with great capacity, not just for those 28 but for the 50-strong crew that comes with them. Combine that with needing to be top secret and wanting to indulge your clients and crew then there’s really only one place in London to shoot; Our Suite A is just that space.

Combining our Studios 1 and 4 means that you can have a huge shooting space, a great client area, a hair and make up room and an additional space for an extended dressing room or a production office.

Pringles & Glee Mash Up Party

To celebrate the release of the Glee Season 1 DVD boxset, Pringles and Fox teamed up to bring a day of Glee mania to 100 competition winners. Sunbeam’s Main Hall was transformed into a high school auditorium, the competition winners were spoilt with singing and dancing lessons as well as American themed food courtesy of Purple Grape. The gleeks got to dress up in lots of fun costumes and at the end of the day Eliza Doolittle hosted the final performances by the gleeks who got to relive their favourite scenes on their very own Glee stage. Everyone went home with glee bags crammed full of goodies and a big smile on their gleek faces.

When Vogue asked us if they could drive the brand new Range Rover into our brand new Studio One we were excited. Since Direct Lighting, our partners here at Sunbeam, were doing all the lighting for the shoot we came up with the idea to photograph the week long shoot and create a time lapse video to show here on our new site. Check out the Vogue crew hard at work with their photographer Jason Pietra and set stylist Annette Masterman, along with the crew at Range Rover and Sunbeam.

Held in association with ISES Talks we were able to launch our brand new Studios One and Four to the event industry. At Sunbeam we are dedicated to operating in a sustainable fashion. Therefore our goal for the evening was to inspire our peers in the event industry to make a change and think about the impact our choices make. We were very grateful to Duncan Goose, founder of The One Foundation, who came along to talk about his amazing story which certainly inspired all of us.

Many of our partners contributed to the evening in their own special ecological way. To add a little fun to our task of finding sustainable energy sources, Magnificent Revolution brought along their bicycle powered generators which provided the energy to our sound system. Needless to say the evening was well received and demonstrated how doing the right thing is achievable and very exciting!

Studio Four open!

Our new studio is completely different to any of our other studios. We are now able to offer a great range of studios, and we think we have a studio or combination of studios that can fit almost any shoot and budget.

Studio Four offers a white walled corner with a light oak floor. It is a space for you to create what you need. Transformed easily into the loft-style apartment your brief demands, your welcome to hang lamps or paint the walls purple! We can of course help fulfill your set build brief.

It’s great for still life or a model, and has great light coming through the large ,sash windows. This light also makes the space perfect for castings meetings, or as an additional green room for a shoot in either Studio 1 or 2.

One of the best things about the photographic industry is that every job is a good job. That said, there are some amazing gems where a magic group get together, get creative, and have a great time. Having Adam Whitehead in our Studio Two to shoot the cover of Bryan Ferry’s new cover, was one of these gems. Gracing this cover was none other than the magnificent Kate Moss. The Studio was big enough to house the multiple sets that they brought in but also created an ambiance that could have only added to this glamorous, intimate and decadent shoot.

We’ve got worms

Not something to boast about? Adam our director and Roxy our studio manager have been discussing their love of worms for years here at Sunbeam so it was just a matter of time before Sunbeam got it’s own wormery. Let me explain…

A wormery allows us to waste less, and that’s good for everybody. So lots of our kitchen waste goes into the wormery, the worms break down that waste and we get lovely organic fertiliser from them. With our chefs catering local seasonal food to you we think that we have the best fed worms around.

Our next step is a herb garden, coming next spring fertislised by our very own worms.

This way we cater delicious food for you that just can’t get any more local, fresh or organic!

Nina Ricci Product Launch

Nina Ricci’s release of their new perfume was marked with an elegant and sophisticated product launch at Sunbeam Studios in collaboration with Velvet Living. Guests arrived for a canapé and drinks reception in Talbot Hall and moved into our Main Hall for a presentation by a Nina Ricci representative. Guests were then invited into our brand new Rootes Hall for a special performance set to a backdrop of Nina Ricci trademark red apples and a red forest setting. As the first event to take place in the new studio this was a very elegant start to what we’re sure will be an exciting event filled-year in our new space.

Studio One open!

The first of our two new studios is now open and ready for your shoot. The largest of our 4 studios, Studio One offers 3,200 sq ft of luxurious studio-ness! Studio One also boasts a large cove, huge shooting space, a drive-in door and a large lighting rig, whew.

But it is far from a cold boring warehouse-type studio space. It has the same grand marble staircase as our original Main Studio (now to be called Studio Two), and the large hair and make up room underneath. Studio One also has direct access to our private garden, which has now doubled in size.

We’re excited to be offering this space to our clients now.

In Aung San Suu Kyi’s honour, friends got together for the second annual Burma Hole in Your Pocket Charity Dinner. Their goal was to raise money for and the profile of Prospect Burma, a small charity working to continue the education of exiled Burmese in the hope that one day they can return to rebuild their country.

Over 150 guests including Harry Enfield and Antonio Carluccio gathered for the premiere of Moving to Mars, a film following two families exiled from Burma which was projected across our cinema-screen sized cove. Guests dined on food donated by The Island and the venue was lit by our partners at Halo Lighting. For more information or to support Prospect Burma please see their website.

“I love photo shoots where I can be like a pinup, not myself,” Green gushes. “Where I can be feminine, glamorous, dark … not like in real life. I hate it when you go in and they want you to be ‘natural,’ to be yourself. I just hate it. I love having fun. When they ask you to smile, I hate it. Of course I smile in my real life, but to do it on cue, that’s not spontaneous. I’d rather do something that’s like a little movie, like a little story, rather than just me—I feel naked.”
