Pearson VUE (http://www.pearsonvue.com) provides computer-based testing for information technology, academic, professional and government testing programs around the world. It has secure network of test centers in around 165 countries.

Some important points to be considered:

    For those, who are planning to take an exam on/after June 1: Registration will begin at Pearson VUE on May 16, 2011 for all scheduled exams on or after June 1.

If you were certified on Java prior to 1st Sept., 2010, then you still hold a Sun-branded credential. The Sun branded credential is still 100% valid and fully recognized under the Oracle certification program. If you desperately want an Oracle-branded Java certification, you need to upgrade to the latest release. For example, someone who holds SCJP 1.4 certification could upgrade to the Oracle Certified Professional, Java Programmer certification for Java SE 6. Oracle hikes Java certification testing fee

Oracle Inc., made significant changes to the cost of technical certification exams for Sun and Oracle technologies as of March 1, 2010.
Oracle reports the new fee structure represents "the first material exam price increase that Oracle has made since the inception of its program," according to an official blog post. "Prices may vary from country to country so please sure to check the links below or with your local site for details."

A full accounting of the fee changes was not immediately available. But both Internet-based exams and proctored ones conducted at testing centers are affected.

The Java/Oracle fee changes listed as follows--
Under the new pricing structure, all non-proctored (i.e. internet-based) exams worldwide cost $125, proctored Oracle exams are now $195, and proctored Sun exams are $300. Note that the prices for emerging-market countries are usually lower. Vouchers already purchased remain valid.

Already registered voucher are valid as long as they have not expired.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to whether there will be a JavaOne 2010?

JavaOne is an annual conference put on by Oracle Sun to discuss Java technologies, primarily among Java developers.

Yes, there will be a JavaOne Conference in 2010. JavaOne will be co-located with Oracle Develop during Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco from September 19-23, 2010. One can experience and register for JavaOne as a standalone conference just as before, or can attend Oracle Develop 2010 and/or Oracle OpenWorld as well;

Furthermore, unlike in recent years, JavaOne will focus solely on Java Technology and its associated ecosystem. You're welcome to attend Oracle Develop and Oracle OpenWorld to gain insight into specific products. As usual, all Java users and partners are invited to submit papers and to attend JavaOne.

For the first time, rapidly growing developer communities outside the U.S. will have access to the JavaOne experience. Although the currently scheduled Sun Tech Days in India and Russia will continue to occur as planned, JavaOne and Oracle Develop will occur in place of Sun Tech Days thereafter.

Silicon Valley is anything but a sentimental place. Companies come and go. They start. They fail. We move on.

Sun MicroSystems is now completely acquired by Oracle Inc., All those products and sites are under Oracle.

But every now and then a giant falls. And so it is with Sun Microsystems, which now goes by Oracle. Larry Ellison's company closed its $7.4 billion deal last week and after 28 years Sun is no more.

"For those of us who were a part of Sun, it's a sad day," says Kim Polese, now CEO of SpikeSource and once Sun's PM (product manager) for Java. "It's a bittersweet feeling. We feel proud to have been a part of that legacy, but sad that Sun is not at the top of the industry and is in fact disappearing."

No doubt Sun shaped Silicon Valley in ways that only a few companies have. It had the full checklist of valley culture - an engineering-centric vibe; an appetite for risk and a propensity for making big bets on the future; a cocky CEO, who played hockey and golf with only winning in mind; and a mischievous streak that allowed for outrageous April Fool's pranks.

Of course, Sun leaves a tremendous technological legacy. Its marketing claim that it was "the dot in dot-com" wasn't hyperbole. The company was pushing the idea of network computers before most of their customers had even contemplated the possibility. It built the servers and storage to make it happen. It created Java, which allowed developers to write large programs for businesses that could run across different platforms.

As of my experience, one can crack SCJP with the help of few books and materials.
Kathy sierra and khalid mughal are the two best books to crack SUN certification.
If you want to have in-depth concepts, go for Head First books.
I strongly recommend those books to acquire complete knowledge and to get maximum score.

I suggest the dumps also but without preparing these books, dumps alone can't do anything.

1.You are not in reality of the exam preparation
Most of the time preparation for this certification exam is approached in the conventional style especially the way you did preparation back in school and college days. However the reality of this exam is that you are no longer in school or in college (some exceptions maybe there) you are in a full time job and you have to manage job responsibilities and also are going to study after a break. Hence the preparation approach must be also different.

Solution : Plan ahead
Rather than beating yourself up for not studying the way you did earlier design a new approach as the circumstances are different now. Make a study plan keeping the reality of the current circumstance in mind.

2.You only prepare theoretical aspects of the exam
The SCJP exam now-a-days having more coding questions. Small code snippets are given and either with compilation errors or code logic errors need to be answered.

Solution : Practice practice practice...
SCJP questions can be best answered if you have done hands on programming in Java and if not then you will need to practise many such questions that give you exposure of coding. Look for mock tests/sample practise tests that have you practise a lot of coding.

3.Preparing Alone
Preparing for the certification exam alone is a trap you will never be able to study alone as you have never done that in school/college etc you had your entire class friends preparing with you.

Solution : get a group of committed people to take the exam with you
Get a friend/colleague or register in a Java forum to belong to a group of people and prepare along with them. Not only will it be fun but it" also give you the required competition and keep you on your toes.

4.Nothing happens over night
You might have heard of this great person in your office who passed the exam in 1 week or 1 month and now you are impatient as to how long it will take for you to be certified. You plan for 1 month and soon the plan goes to the dogs so now you are really impatient and in your mind you have made it a very tough exam that will take lots to pass.

Solution : Build brick by Brick
Don't try to learn the entire language in a week/month, take your time. Keep the objective of learning and not just somehow passing the certification exam. Learn "why" something works a given way, not just that it works one way. This will surely see you long way in your journey as a Java professional.

5. Am I ready to take the test?
This is a tough one to answer. And exam will always be an exam meaning it will always give butterfly in your stomach and make you feel like throwing up the moment you think of taking the exam.

Solution : Don"t be guided by you feelings
Here again I will point to the first point, keep in touch with the reality of your exam preparation. Let the scores in the practise tests/mock tests guide you whether you are ready for the exam or not. If you are scoring 85% + in the mock tests do go take the exam.
