We always want to make our residents aware of fun and exciting events going on around town, and we thought we would share the free story hour and children’s program offered by the West Des Moines Public Library.  This is a great way for children and parents alike to make new friends as well as expose our young ones to literature at an early age.

Listed below are some of the upcoming free story times and children’s programs offered by the local library during the month of May:

• Wednesday, May 2nd at 9:30 and 10:30am–Preschool Mother’s Day Program: Children between the ages of 2 and 6 will read stories and make crafts in honor of Mother’s Day.

• Thursday, May 3rd at 9:30am and 10:30am–Toddler Mother’s Day Program: Toddlers that are 2 and 3 years of age will sing songs and read books to celebrate Mother’s Day.

• Tuesday, May 15th and Wednesday May 16th at 10:30am–Creepy Crawly Storytime: Children between the ages of 2 and 6 are invited to read stories about bugs and other creepy things that crawl.

Celebrate Earth Day 2012 around West Des Moines near Sun Prairie apartments.

This upcoming weekend is a celebration of the earth for Earth Day 2012, and there will be plenty of opportunities to support a more environmentally friendly West Des Moines. Here are just a few events you can attend that aren’t too far from Sun Prairie apartments:

Des Moines Trash Bash

April 20th-Over 1300 volunteers are needed for this event. Cities of Des Moines, West Des Moines and Clive, Polk County Conservation, Metro Waste Authority, Ingersoll Business District, Water Works and the Department of Natural Resources invite citizens to help clear away winter debris, remove invasive species to improve wildlife habitat, clean up litter and beautify the parks, trails, cemeteries and other public spaces in our community. Event is from 11:30am-5:00pm and if it rains, it will be rescheduled for April 23rd.

Des Moines Botanical Center

Enjoy free admission for Earth Day on April 22nd.

Earth Day at the Junction

Come support this 5K race in West Des Moines on April 22nd. The 3.1 mile route includes Holiday Park, and the Kids Fun Run will take place in front of the Theatrical Shop, on 5th Street, in Historic Valley Junction.

With so many fun activities planned, there’s no reason not to celebrate Earth Day 2012. Make your plans for this weekend!
