Top 16 drivers parade in Kuala Lumpur

1 June 2012, Singapore – The Achilles Asian Drift Series is back for its second season across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.  Daigo ‘The Ninja’ Saito defended his Achilles Formula Drift Malaysia crown last weekend in Kuala Lumpur, and the next battle will take place in Singapore 30 June to 1 July 2012 at Changi Exhibition Centre.

You can expect drift legend Manabu ‘Max’ Orido, American drift stars Ken Gushi and Robbie Nishida and regional drivers including Malaysia’s Prince of Drift Tengku Djan Ley, New Zealand’s Daynom Templeman and Indonesia’s Emmanuel ‘Dio’ Armandio.  Singapore is represented by seasoned drifters Jansen Tan, Ivan Lim, Felix Lim, Vincent Ng, Jason Tan and Geoveen Hi.

More than 30 contenders across Asia Pacific, including Indonesia and Australia will be judged on their speed, style, line and angle.

This year, there will be a new addition to the series.  The Canon Nations Cup will test the unison and teamwork of a pair of drivers from the same country.

This year’s panel of judges include Andy Yen, one of the original Formula Drift judges, Daijiro Yoshihara, a Pro Championship driver who was the overall USA Champion for 2011 and Formula Drift Asia judge Benjamin Khoo.

30 May 2012, Singapore – Earlier this month we spoke to Elite Singapore model Maddie Cox.  Maddie first made it to the Singapore fashion scene in last year’s Elite Model Look .  Maddie was in Singapore for Blueprint where she walked the runway.

As part of SUPERADRIANME.com’s dedication to mums in the month of May, we asked Maddie to give us an intimate insight to her relationship with her mum.

How do you usually spend Mothers’ Day?

MC: Making sure my mother does as little as possible! and making sure she feels appreciated and loved.

What do you think would be the best gift for mum?

MC: I think that something from the heart is best because it shows how much you care and it shows the effort you went into to get it.

What would you get you mum this year?

MC: This year i think i will take her out to one of her favorite restaurants, she loves surprises! Also of course a lovely bouquet of flowers.

Do you have any other siblings?

MC: I would love to have siblings but I am the only child. However I do have a dog that I consider to be my sister sometimes.   She loves the camera!

Could you share with us more about your mum?

MC: My mum is a really big-hearted person who loves company and interacting with people.  She has a big passion for jewellery and she designs and sells her pieces.  She also donates it to a charity called operation smile where it is auctioned off to raise money for children’s clef lips to be operated on.

What have you been up to since Elite Model Look Singapore?

MC: I’ve been laying low and focusing on my school work.  During a short break, I interned with a fashion designer and helped around at her office.  I have been awaiting this trip back to Singapore with lots of excitement.

29 May 2012, Singapore – With around 1,400 women diagnosed with breast cancer, retailer Marks & Spencer decided to help raise awareness of breast cancer in a new collaboration with the Breast Cancer Foundation.   Marks & Spencer will run year-round activities to educate and engage women in staying in the pink of health.  Breast health facts brochures have been strategically placed in the lingerie and women’s departments while OCBC Robinsons Cardmembers went aboard a Mammobus parked onsite from 18 to 20 May for their mammogram screenings at a subsidised rate.

“2012 is shaping up to be an exciting year for us, with the opening of our Wheelock Place flagship as well as our very first breast health awareness campaign with Breast Cancer Foundation. We want to call attention to the number one form of cancer that strikes Singaporean women and reach out to women to highlight the importance of breast health and early detection. We are proud to support this cause and work together with Breast Cancer Foundation to raise awareness,” said Ms Donna Chua, General Manager, Group Marketing Services, The Robinson Group.

 

Men too play an important role in raising awareness that there can be life after breast cancer, if detected early.  Breast Cancer Foundation is one of the few breast cancer advocacy groups int he world with a dedicated Men’s Support League.  This league emphasises men’s role in this effort.

Facts about Breast Cancer

1. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Singapore and makes up almost one-third of all cancers among women.
2.       Breast cancer affects 1 in every 17 women in Singapore.
3.       The risk of breast cancer increases with age. Breast cancer is most common among women between the ages of 50 and 59 years.
4.       Approximately 1,400 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year.
5.       More than 300 women die of breast cancer each year.
6.       The most common sign of breast cancer is a lump in the breast that is painless.
7.       Breast cancer treatment and survival rates in Singapore are comparable to those in developed Western countries.
8.       Advanced stage breast cancer remains more common in Singapore than in other Western countries.
9.       Early detection and treatment save lives. Women between the ages of 40 and 49 years are encouraged to go for mammogram screening once a year; those older than 50 years, once in every 2 years.
